Unlimited (London 2012 Cultural Olympiad) - Information Sharing and Consultation Meeting

Unlimited is one of the ten major projects of London 2012’s Cultural Olympiad. It will be the UK’s largest ever celebration of arts and disability, culture and sport and will run from 2009 through to the Games in 2012.

The project is still in the planning stage and we would like your input on how to shape the way in which it develops. We want to hear about what you are doing now and what you would hope to see over the next four years.

To date £750,000 has been pledged to Unlimited for a UK-wide series of commissions for disabled artists and arts organisations over the next four years. Artists will be encouraged to create work ‘like never before’ – with new partnerships and site-specific work to challenge traditional, passive images of disabled people.

In addition, Unlimited will combine workshops, mentoring, career and training advice with performance and celebration. Beginning in 2009, it will build towards a series of showcases and festivals in 2011 through to a spectacular finale in 2012, and will be accessible to the nine regions of England as well as Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales.

Unlimited will be fully accessible to allow all disabled people to participate in creating new work on a scale never seen before in the UK. This unique celebration will link the Olympic and Paralympic values and seek to engage artists and audiences alike. The UK leads the world in disability arts practice as shown recently with members of CandoCo appearing in the closing ceremony of the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games; the first time disabled artists have ever done so in history. The programme will harness the knowledge of every key disability organisation in the country, and engage partners in the arts, sports and disability sectors in each region.

To register Tel: 028 9025 8856 or Email: 2012ni@dcalni.gov.uk

If you have any queries contact either Pat Wilson, Cultural Coordinator for 2012 in Northern Ireland on Tel: 028 9025 8869 or Chris Ledger at the Arts Council of Northern Ireland on Tel: 028 9038 5213.

Wednesday 14 January 2009, 11am to 2.30pm, Island Arts Centre
Refreshments, including lunch will be provided. The venue is wheelchair accessible and there is ample parking.

For more information on the Cultural Olympiad please visit the website for the London Organising Committee of the Olympic Games and Paralympic Games on www.london2012.com/culture
