Somebody set up us the bomb!

So, ir/rational Redux, the videogame for which æclipse µattaru made some drawings a while back, has finally broke out into the world, and it turned out to be quite the bomb all right. On Newgrounds alone, it amassed almost 140.000 visits and 45 pages worth of comments, with a score of 4-point-something over 5 stars. Adding that to numbers from other corners of the internets, the thing is currently well over 300.000 views.

The game itself, since you ask, is basically a graphic adventure in which you solve puzzles by completing logical propositions. It's way more fun than it sounds like, and it's the kind of thing that makes you feel like quite the genius with every step forward. You can play it in Newgrounds right here.

Other than that, Alfaguara just published Androides, Misión Luna, a sci-fi novel for young adults written by Fernando González that follows on the story of Nine Hours (2008). The writer, in his own words, doesn't write “to deliver a message” neither is he “about to make books that aim to teach a lesson”. This translates into a story that doesn't intend to be politically correct and won't shy away from putting its characters through the grinder relentlessly; which, if you ask me, is always the best kind of story.

The illustrations, as you might have already guessed, what being the kind of genius that plays ir/rational Redux and all, were made by æclipse µattaru and they can be found on the other side of this here link.

Finally, æclipse µattaru finds himself currently immersed in a promising project about which not much can be said just yet, so we'll just leave this here ...

Oh, joy and gaiety! The last time I heard anything about the word “gaiety” it was from an English teacher during my grade school years. I'm still not sure whether she was making words up on the fly for kicks or she just hadn't talked to a native English speaker since the 1800's. Whatever the case, the reason we're celebrating in such vintage terms is because ir/rational redux, the indie videogame for which æclipse µattaru did some drawings, is finally done. Where can I play it, you ask? OK, so maybe “done” is sort of a big word. It's more like the afforementioned drawings are done, and now it's up to the good Tom Jubert to finish up with the game proper, which is still a little ways to go. So, easy on the gaiety, I guess. We are much closer now -certainly closer than when we just started-, so there's that. Also, some of the drawings can be seen here, so there's also that.

In other news, the Group of Uruguayan Children's Book Illustrators iluyos just kicked off a campaign called “The illustrators are authors”, which will consist of a bunch of public art displays and other such acts of revolution, like this cute collection in which 22 illustrators take their own interpretation on the © symbol. Here's our host's.

Finally, the Digital section is growing at a pace that will probably require some reorganizing soon, and includes a somewhat alarming amount of fanarts. One would say it's high time someone invented something new. Incidentally, that might or might not be something about which there might or might not be exciting news around the corner. I guess the only way to be sure would be to stick around and wait.

2011 is shaping up like a great year to be æclipse µattaru, specifically in terms of his admiration of the novel 1984, as Sudamericana decided to reprint the book Juanita Julepe and the river of zombies (which æclipse µattaru's friends and followers might recognize as æclipse µattaru's very first job as an illustrator), but replacing our top artist with some other guy; effectively erasing æclipse µattaru from History. Just like in 1984, get it? This also means that, if you happened to buy Juanita Julepe and the river of zombies in its first edition, you're now the proud owner of a unique collector's item of sorts.

But it's not all fun and games and getting fired from a job for which he didn't even sign a contract for æclipse µattaru: He's also spent a good portion of these last few half dozen months making some experiments with his tablet (which you can check out in this here link); teaming up with British writer Tom Jubert to work on the new version of the videogame ir/rational (which is coming out any moment now); and illustrating the novel El Súper Maxi del Gol by Daniel Baldi, which, as the title might tend to imply, tells the story of a soccer player. Because that's the sort of thing that happen to æclipse µattaru, a guy who hasn't watched more than 15 minutes worth of soccer in his entire life.

The novel is rather good, mind; in fact it managed to hook æclipse µattaru as a reader, which is no small feat, considering his massive case of soccer illiteracy.

By the way, another thing that has changed is the layout of the website, as keen observers might have noticed. In case you don't remember, this is how it used to look like before …

Don't let the naysayers tell you æclipse µattaru's been wasting these last monts poking his nose in quiet, procrastinating contemplation!

No, sir. The man not only has been feverishly scratching his tablet with random, pointless illustration upon random, pointless illustration; but he's also been working on this here, English version of his website.

Cute, eh? Now you can enjoy the pretty pictures as always, and understand what's with all this garbage he keeps writing.
