Hello everyone. I have been wanting to start a newsletter on our blog that includes tips and tricks related to your wedding. After spending some time reading the community forums on The Knot and Wedding Wire, I feel that there are alot of questions that brides have that we can help them answer. Since I was spending some time answering questions on these sites it hit me that we should be doing that here.

Our plan is to make this newsletter as informative as possible and hopefully not to boring. Between our photography experience and actually going through the process of hosting our daughters wedding recently, we feel that we can share alot of things with our readers to help them with their own wedding plans. You can expect that either myself or Becca will be posting most of what we have seen. In addition to our posts, we plan to ask wedding professionals that we know and have worked with to help us add to this newsletter. This should give our readers a variety of information from different wedding experts. With any luck it will develop into a tool to help our brides as they plan and host the wedding of their dreams.

Our first topic will be photography related just because that is what we do.

I see alot of brides that struggle with trying to figure out how to choose her photographer. Do you choose the cheapest one, the photographer that your mom used, a family friend, a local pro or some national company?. An event the size of a wedding is generally the largest thing a bride will have planned. With all the choices that need to be made it is hard to know what to do or how to choose each vendor that she will use to create the wedding of her dreams. There are large number of wedding photographers with a variety of experience and styles. This tends to create confusion she plans her big day.

We believe that the first thing you should be doing when selecting your wedding photographer is to see if you like there photos. It seems really simple but I read so many comments from brides that are only concerned with how much the photography will cost. When planning the wedding of your dreams, how will you feel about the money you saved if you get your photos and hate them?

One way to help ensure you are going to be happy with the images that you get is to look at several full weddings from the photographer that you are considering. All photographers want to put their nicest images on their website. However, when choosing your wedding photographer you owe it to yourself to take a closer look at the photos that the photographer is going to give you. Look for things that are included in the wedding ph0tography. Did they just take photos of the bride and groom during the day? Did they get photos of all the wedding party as they walked down the aisle? Did they take photos of guests at the reception? Did they get photos of the cakes and all the items that the bride and groom had at the wedding to make their day special? Do you like the way the photographer handled the cake cutting, the toasts, the first dances, etc? It may seem like these types of events during your wedding would included in your photographs but that isnt always true. Typically, it is a sister of a bride that tells us about her sisters photographer not capturing these events. A good professional photographer should have no problem showing you several full weddings to let you see what they are capturing during the day. Therefore, you owe it to yourself to take a closer look at what your photographer is going photograph during the day before you sign an agreement with them.

As we continue with tips on selecting your photographer, next Tuesday we will cover the reason you should find a photographer that you can establish a relationship with and why their personality is important.

Kelly Bridals at Ashelynn Manor

Kelly chose to go to Ashelynn Manor in Magnolia Texas for her bridal and engagement portraits since that was where they were getting married. We really love working at Ashelynn Manor since it has so many different looks around the property. If you have not been there it is an old plantation style mansion that includes a carriage house that serves as the main reception area. It has a grand staircase that you can see below. They built an amazing chapel next door that we were really excited to get to work in. Since the weather was so warm we spent alot of time inside using the staircase, the huge window and some rooms that have gorgeous light. We did get outside for some shots in front of and around the chapel. Kelly was gorgeous in her gown and so easy to photograph because of her sweet personality. We were looking forward to Kelly and Tommy’s wedding that will be coming up soon . This family is so loving and kind, and we LOVED every minute we shared with them. We had a BLAST at the wedding and reception and can’t wait to share the photographs. Keep an eye out for some ROCKIN pictures of their wedding.

Lindsay & Donald at The Downtown Aquarium in Houston

Lindsay and Donald were married at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Houston, Texas and their reception was at The Downtown Aquarium. They were a blast to work with and their families were so sweet! We started the day off meeting Lindsay and her bridal party at Hair Gallery in Spring, Texas for getting ready shots. Lindsay was so relaxed and stunningly beautiful. The wedding party took a trolley provided by, The Original Trolley Company, from the church to The Downtown Aquarium. The flowers were designed by Cristina from, Fresh Blooms of Houston, and the cake was designed by, Cakes by Gina. The reception was ROCKIN and everyone had an amazing time!!! DJ services were provided by Mike Valdez. Lindsay and Donald, we LOVED working with you and wish you all the best life has to offer. KEEP SMILIN

Jessica Sauer, a star in the fashion world!

Meet Jessica Sauer, a fashion runway model that lives in the Houston area for now. She is a gorgeous, SUPER talented model that has a lot of things going for her. She has been in a bunch of magazines, is acting in a TV show in Houston called Afternoon Starz, and has walked the runway in Houston, New York and other locations worldwide. Jessica asked us to do an editorial photo session with her in the dress she wore to her senior prom. We love working with her and jumped at the chance to get another session in before she heads to New York permanently. We met up with her at the studio for Your Makeup Expert. Dorothy Strouhal, YME’s owner, who did an awesome job with her makeup and then we headed off to the San Jacinto Monument to get some shots in. We ended up with some AWESOME photos in spite of the mid day sun, Texas sized mosquitoes and what seemed like a gale force wind. Be sure to keep an eye out for Jessica. We know she is on the verge of making it big. Thanks Jess for a great session!

Lindsay’s Bridals at Sovereign Farm

We went to Sovereign Farm, to do Lindsay’s bridal pictures and had the time of our life. Not often do you have an audience jumping up and down entertaining the horse to keep the horses ears up. We did not know that horses had a certain look for pictures, but now we know The owners there were so nice and accommodating. Lindsay is the sweetest person and made a BEAUTIFUL bride. We had so much fun and LOVED the idea of doing pictures with her gorgeous horse, Mia. Keep an eye out for photos from Lindsay and Donald’s wedding.

Nickie and Brad’s Wedding

We had the privilege of capturing the wedding of Nickie and Brad which was held at Safari Texas. Nickie and Brad are amazing people and we had a BLAST sharing this special day with them. Edgy Session with Katherine

Katherine is another model that we worked with recently.We met in Downtown Houston with the thought that this was to be an edgy photo session. The edgier the better! We did the entire shoot in an alley and a run down building close to Allens Landing. The weather sort of cooperated but it was still COLD and windy! At least it wasnt raining and we did get some excellent shots. Katherine was a lot of fun to work with and we look forward to seeing more of her down the road.

A Fashion session with Mandy!

Since the first part of the year tends to be slow for us we looked into doing some photo sessions with some up and coming models in the area. Eventually, this will end up in a separate website since this work doesnt really fit with the wedding site we have here. We will let everyone know when that gets setup.

One of our first models this year is Mandy, a gorgeous talented model that is a schoolaholic. She already has a degree in Communications from St. Edwards and is now starting all over because she decided she would rather be a vet. We did the work in downtown Houston, in and around an awesome restaurant called Cava Bistro. This is a super place with an eclectic feel and a great local owner, Hicham. It is definitely worth the trip going there and if you do give a shout to Hicham. Here is a peek at some of the shots we ended up with.
