Easy DIY: Cupcake Lights!

I had some cute mini cupcake liners so I decided to put them to good use and made some quick decor for the shower in just a few minutes. I'm always sad when we take down the Christmas lights- so these are a fun way to have lights around the house all year.

It looks darling on a fireplace mantle (although I don't have one) or outside on a deck. I love that this DIY can be changed for any party theme- white for wedding showers, bright & patterned for kids parties, pink and red for Valentine's Day, black & white for a grown up party, etc.

Some people say to cut a little slit in the liner, but I didn't. I just punched them through- piece of cake:)

I'm going to keep these up for awhile and start collecting cute liners for every holiday!

Paperless Post Invites & Valentines

I used Paperless Post invitations for the shower that I threw last night... I love that it's easy & inexpensive but definitely a big step up from E-vite with all the custom options, colors, and envelope liners! Here is the one I did...

And I love all their Valentine Party invitations right now- almost enough to tempt me to throw another party (yeah right, I'm exhausted!)

Color Palette Inspiration: Poppies & Peonies

The inspiration for my living room color palette came from this painting that I was given by my parents when I lost my first baby, Reese. It has a lot of special meaning to me and the colors are my absolute favorite- coral, blush pink, shades of blue and teal. It reminds me of my sweet baby and brings a smile to my face every time I see it.

My paint color has proved to be one of my new favorites- Emerald Vapor by Benjamin Moore.

I love the still life composition

and all the little brushstrokes of different colors in the paisley tapestry in the background.

My loveseat was a hand-me-down from my parents too- they bought a pair of them in the 80's and they are still in amazing shape. The pillow is CWD TEXTILES- Coral Tall Chevron in 16"x26".

The artist is Paula Evrard and was painted sometime between 1876-1927. I've been asked where you can buy similar paintings and to be honest I don't have alot of great sources for original oil paintings that are older like this one and not expensive. This was purchased at Anthony's Antiques in Salt Lake City. If you are in the market for old original artwork, antique shops are the best way to go- and of course bigger cities are going to be way more expensive. There are also alot of wonderful contemporary painters that sell beautiful artwork online and etsy.

I'm throwing a baby shower tomorrow so today I'm working on flowers & food prep...and few decs!

I haven't stopped thinking about this gorgeous flower arrangement since I saw it on Pinterest- isn't it absolute perfection? Wishing I could go to the flower market and snatch all those beauties up. Be back tomorrow with some goodies for you!

New Series: The Inspiration Board

This week was a great week on Craigslist- I found a tufted vintage chair for $125 and a huge lilac fabric covered bulletin board for my office for $40 ( I really am working on this house of mine)! It is the perfect size (4x5.5 FEET)- which is so hard to find online without it being just a big brown cork board. I am using it for new textile pattern inspiration, reminders, client layouts...and a new blog series! Once a week I'll post a layout that I'm loving and share the sources with all of you!

My gold & bamboo coffee table

My favorite piece in my house is my vintage coffee table (& side table) that I scored on Ebay. I started scouring ebay and craigslist as soon as we knew we were moving back to the US...and I must say that my few finds were totally worth all the websurfing! I got both the coffee and side table for under $500 and hired a guy to pick them up for me in upstate New York.

I love the warm veining through the Calcutta marble top

(it is very heavy though- as you can tell from the marks in my rug)

I love that it's a statement piece without being super heavy or chunky. And since it's narrow, it will always be a great piece that I can use no matter the size of our apartment.

I realize this table was a total score- so I wanted to offer some suggestions online of some pieces with a similar look. But my best advice is to keep your eyes peeled on ebay and craigslist- and don't be afraid to use a dispatch service to pick up and deliver pieces that are too far away. I paid $200 for the delivery and I'm so glad I did!

My Dad's 60th Birthday Party!

Last week I flew to Utah to help throw a big surprise party for my Dad's 60th! My sister and I had a lot of fun gathering ideas for the bash and we seemed to pull it off just fine (and without ruining the surprise). a glimpse of the living room

This week I'm sharing just a little shot of our living room- there's a lot of work to be done, so this is as good as it gets:) The lamps are from Dubai, the rug is Thom Filicia's Griffith Park in Seaglass, the coffee table is vintage from eBay (more on that later), and the pillows are all CWD Textiles- Peacock Scallop, Berry Signature Pillow, Navy Signature Pillow, more on the sofa below.

It's always been a dream thought of mine to have a coral linen sofa. I put it in my dream home post on la dolce vita, but I didn't think I would do it just yet {and to be honest, I actually didn't think my husband would let me!} But what can I say?... I'm a lucky girl and my man doesn't have any worries about sitting on our coral sofa. He happily watches sports on it all the time without hesitation:)

I got the sofa from Monarch Sofas (formerly called Sofa Craft) in California. The fabric is COM (customer's own material) Pindler & Pindler 2259: Winston. It cost me a ton to ship to the East Coast but it was still a better price than my other vendors.

This pillow is a sample I had made while I was testing out colorways for CWD Textiles. It's Zabeel Chevron pattern in a heavy gold foil. It would be quite expensive to produce, but who knows...maybe I'll do it if I get enough requests!

The man cave sneak peek

Right before Christmas, I helped one of my clients to pull together a cozy yet sophisticated Ralph Lauren inspired "man cave" for her boys (husband included). I went to our local fabric district- Fabric Row and picked up some fabulous nubby wools- mostly plaids and checks. Such bargains compared to the Ralph fabrics I had originally priced out for the project! I'm even going back tomorrow to get more for another project.

We threw some family heirloom photos and antlers up on the wall- from West Elm.

And of course some gems from Home Goods. These are actual RL swing arm brass lamps- aren't they to die for?

We're still working on several spaces in this home including an English-cottagey guest loft, a living room face-lift and a kitchen remodel. I'm loving the direction we're going- more to come soon!

Stock update!

We've been receiving several emails a day asking when fabrics will be back in stock so I thought I'd let everybody know the status. We have run out of all of the Fleur Chinoise patterns but we WILL be restocking all of the colorways soon. WE DO STILL HAVE PILLOW COVERS IN THOSE PATTERNS (but stock is low). Due to the holidays, production has been delayed and it will take a bit longer than expected but I promise we will have more by Spring. Once we have a firm date, I will let you know and backorders will be available on the site so you can pre-order.

Also, if you are thinking about ordering fabric by the yard for any upcoming projects, I would encourage you to order soon as we will be running out of other patterns and not all of the colorways will be continued as we'll be making room for more colorways and new patterns!

Another Resolution!

One of my main goals for the year (and hopefully before baby comes in April) is to get my house put together. Can you believe I have lived here for 6 months and I still haven't hung any frames on the walls? I've been so busy with CWD Textiles and client's homes, that mine has been neglected! Doesn't January just put you in the mood to get your house organized and beautified?

These soothing interiors are looking really good to me right now- light paint, blush tones, gold accents, fresh flowers. Of course the pillows are all a little blah to me, but the other elements are so clean and refined.

I've got a major list of things to do around here, let's hope I can get it together.

Starting next week, I'll be posting images of my home on Wednesdays- so make sure to check in!

A New Year's Resolution!

I know it's mid-January and I'm still talking about the New Year but I just got back to Philadelphia and life is finally getting organized so I'm feeling inspired! Among the many self-improvement, spiritual, physical, and career goals that I always make at the beginning of the year, I like to make a creative goal as well. Something new that I want to focus on for the year...for example, a few years ago my creative goal was to learn how to use my DSLR camera better. This year, my goal is to watercolor! I've always enjoyed sketching and painting ever since I was a little girl but I don't really keep up on it these days unless I'm painting a canvas for my house or drawing a pattern for my fabric line. I have always loved Caitlin McGauley's interior illustrations seen in Domino and Lonny... she's amazing.

I know watercolor is way harder than it seems, so I'm hoping to take a class if I can find the time. My goal is to have a little collection of watercolors of some of the spaces I've designed to hang in my office. So excited!

Happy New Year! I hope you all had a wonderful holiday. I am sorry that I took so much time off from blogging...I think I overworked myself before Christmas so I needed a long vacay! And since my husband is in business school, he actually gets quite a bit of time off between semesters so we've been in Washington DC, Oregon, San Francisco, and Utah. We're wrapping things up and on our way home soon so I'll be back to blogging next week, I promise! Thanks for the notes from those who noticed:)

In the meantime, I did manage to update my portfolio and press from 2011 so make sure to check it out. 2011 was an incredible year and I'm so grateful for all of my faithful readers' support & encouragement!
2012 is going to be very exciting too with some new projects that I'll have photographed, some new patterns and additional colorways from CWD TEXTILES, a few surprises, and a (oh yeah) new baby boy in April! Cheers to 2012!
