The Gila Monster Road Race lived up to its reputation as one of the hardest days of racing in the United States on Sunday. The climbs, the altitude and the tight general classification made it a race of survival. California Giant Berry Farms/Specialized rider Torey Philipp finished 18th on the brutal stage.
“I’m pretty happy with how I did today. Last year, the altitude really affected me on the last day, so this year was a big improvement for a harder stage too. It was cool in the group seeing Chris Baldwin and a couple of other big guys, as quickly as possible please.” Philip said after the stage.
