The peculiarities of life - that's what keeps us all going. I joined this brigade of peculiarities, with all the superlatives attached, when I married a man in the proverbial olive greens. Yes, I married an army officer – Mr. Brave, Mr. Kind Hearted, Mr. ‘I’ll-do-anything-for-that-last-one-minute-with-my-family-before-boarding-the-plane-to-God-knows-where.” Never mind what he turned out to be, but life – well, that turned out to be a whole different story.

Time to save the Ganga

To see Ganga, the holiest river in India, was one of my wishes for a long time. Having watched numerous documentaries on the mighty Ganges that flows down from the Himalayas to the North Indian plains quenching the thirst of millions, the river always caught my imagination. Like many devout believers, I too felt a strange mix of emotions as I caught the glimpse of the mighty river for the first time in my life. However, as I ventured closer to the many ghats and river banks, my joy and enthusiasm was replaced by a lingering sadness, on seeing the unclean state of the holy river of India.

ಚಳಿಗೆ ದುಪ್ಪಟ್ಟಿ ಹೊಚ್ಚಿಟ್ಟಂತೆ ಅದನ್ನೊಂದು ಕಪ್ಪು ಪ್ಲಾಸ್ಟಿಕ್ ನಿಂದ ಮುಚ್ಚಿಡಲಾಗಿತ್ತು. ತಕ್ಷಣ ಏನೋ !? ಹೊಳೆದಂತಾಗಿ, ಅದಕ್ಕೆ ಹಿಂದಿನ ಸವಾರಿ ಕೂರುವ ಸೀಟೇನಾದರೂ ಇದೆಯಾ? ಎಂದು ಪರಿಶೀಲಿಸಿ ನೋಡಿದೆ. ಇರಲಿಲ್ಲ!! . ಓಹೋ! ಇದೇ ಹಡ್ರೆಂಡ್ ಪರ್ಸೆಂಟ್ ತೇಜಸ್ವಿ ಮನೆ. ಅನುಮಾನವೇ ಬೇಡ ಎಂದೆ.

Have you ever enjoyed drinking tea in a royal way? Did you ever know that there are 36 varieties of tea? As a tea drinker, I have always relished all kinds of tea – the traditional milk tea, black tea, lime tea, green tea. However, I felt that this royal drink has been losing its pride of place due to the invasion of coffee cafes and the variety of coffee served in them. I was quite eager to see if there are any tea cafes and chai-bars. After we shifted to Hyderabad, my husband surprised me on my seventh wedding anniversary by taking me to a place called Finjaan.

When the winter fog envelopes, when the chill gets to our bones, Nothing beats a hot cup of … pardon me… is it tea or coffee? How can you have such doubts… it is coffee obviously! It's the drink the world wakes up to every morning, right? Hello excuse me, it is tea! My parents and their grandparents have had tea all through their lives! This coffee thing has just been around for the last decades. How can anyone even think of a competition to tea!?! Are you bewildered by this silly argument about two dumb beverages?

I have heard my family talk about the Nehru boat race ever since I was a child. With great excitement they discuss the race and watch the entire race on television. Post this there is an extensive review of the same and a long list of could-have-been scenarios. I had never shown much interest in the details or the event itself.
