The Calgary Stampeders continued their rout of veteran players today by shipping standout SB Jermain Copeland to the Toronto Argonauts for WR P.K. Sam. The Stampeders recently let kicker Sandro DeAngelis go last week, this week it's Copeland. The Argos pick up Copeland, and a larger salary, as wll as 850 more yards in receiving and six times the number of TD's than Sam.

It seems Calgary is content with their current slotback situation and though they'd save some extra cash with Copeland. No word on who's going out next, or who will replace Copeland at slotback.

Word out of Stamps camp is that Sandrio Deangelis won't be returning as a Stampeder. I thought he was going to the NFL, but it seems with the latest release from the Stampeders they're cutting ties completely. This is a bit surprising given the fact kickers in the CFL generally stick with their teams (in the league) for 20 years which means Sandro had a good solid 15 years left .

Not only that, Sandro was good, and finding good kickers in a pool of 'not many' is hard. Maybe some unknown will emerge since jobs in the NFL are limited, but fact is someone else will be given the duty of winning clutch games this coming season.

Given Sandro's quality kicking it leads me to believe two things: 1) He's off to the NFL, 2) he asked for too much money here (over 150K).

More details to follow as they emerge.

The Calgary Stampeders have announced the re-signing of Stampeders import wide receiver Kenyon Rambo to a contract extension. One of the biggest reasons why the Stamps didn't have much of a deep threat was due to the fact their top TWO WRs were lost to injury early in the season. Rambo will return in 2010 in an attempt to regain his league leading 2008 receiving form. His return is a welcome addition to a Stamps offence looking for big play makers.

The cool thing about the CFL that you do'nt find in any other professional league is the input fans get to impact rules. The CFL last year asked fans to offer suggestions on various aspects like kick off returns, safeties, and more. This year they are going to do the same and request fans give their thoughts on the overtime format. Here are some questions to start the discussion:

 1. Is the series-of-downs format superior to the old system of extra overtime periods or halves?
2. Should teams scrimmage from somewhere other than the 35 yard line?
3. Should teams be required to drive for a touchdown instead of settling for a field goal, or should teams be required to attempt a two-point convert following a touchdown?
4. Does the overtime format really need changes, or is it already as good as it can be?

You can get connected into the discussion by sending your thoughts at the CFL Fans Rules page. Have your say!

The only good thing about the Matt Dunigan year was the fact he brought in Joffrey Reynolds. Since day one Reynolds has been the quintessential professional when it comes to on and off field work. Even within a pass happy offence, he has managed to rack up the yards and sits just over 700 yards for the Stampeders lead as all-time rusher. In the past two season he was lead the league in rushing yards, and at 30, has a few solid years ahead of him.

Great to see Joffrey will be back with the Stamps as a integral part of the offence.

No repeat, no epic Grey Cup party for the city. Today's game went off with problems from the get go. First TSN dropped the feed screwing up again and suggesting maybe the CRTC wants to rethink broadcasting Canada's game (Grey Cup is only on cable now) to the entire country rather......Nonetheless, Calgary came out and stunk out the joint, folding under the loud noises of drunken hicks.

How did the game go down? I got an idea, let's abandon the only working component of the offence, the run game, and let's stop nothing on defence. A great combination to win a Grey Cup. Calgary displayed in their loss in Saskatchewan that it wasn't about who was going to play mistake free football, but who was the better football team. Without a doubt, one can't argue that the Roughriders are the better football team. They never lost to the Stamps, whereas the Stamps always choked in the big games.

This afternoon Calgary had a good first quarter but then folded the tent. Burris threw interceptions, the defence made few stops, special teams gave up big plays. No point covering this team; but last thought: I'm glad I didn't go through and buy tickets to the Grey Cup.

A short post because the Flames game is starting. But tonight, first place in the West division and a a bye to the West final was on the line. The Calgary Stampeders have only themselves to blame for what can be called a monster debacle. The team, once again, other than Joffrey Reynolds, didn't show up for the entire first half. In the second half they found their game (until late in the 4th) and Saskatchewan had no answer. Now the Stamps need to play Edmonton and go back to Saskatchewan for the final (assuming they win).

Here's the good news, it wasn't anything the Riders did, it was everything the Stamps didn't do. Defence was shotty at the start, offence didn't start at the start..... Burris with two interceptions and the defence with no turnovers. Can they get any worse? Unlikely, so expect a destructive West final, however, again, the Stamps cant look that far ahead with Edmonton waiting.

The good news, Roughriders acted like they've never been to the finals throwing water on the coach and acting like the drunken hicks that sit in their stands. That will add fuel to a hungry Stampeders team. In the meantime the Stamps can come home and think about how they've blown another chance to take matters into their own hands. Frankly they don't deserve to win if they can't figure out how to string together a 60 minute game.

Crucial End of Season Run Unseen by tens of thousands

**Edit: To the credit of the organization, they did lift the blackout LATE last week, although some people said they watched it fine. This week TELUS TV did not have the game until the second quarter, late, and Starchoice customers did..... All in all this is a matter of someone in management not getting the right information out in time---not a good excuse, especially two weeks in a row.***

There are few explanations for what's transpiring in the city that will host the 2009 Grey Cup which incidentally lines the pockets of owners with an extra game of 200 dollar tickets X 45,000 = over 1 million dollars extra.

For the second week in a row the Stampeders have blacked out the home game on national coverage, the first time they've blacked out in over a year, and the second time in as many weeks. Last week the team issued an explanation, not an apology, on why the game was blacked out which you can read here.

The reason? They didn't sell 90% of the seats. Why didn't they sell? Because the organization has ADDED Over 5000 seats. That means, last week the home game was the third highest attended home game of the season yet the game was blacked out because not enough seats for the NEW number were sold.

I said last week that home town fans will NEVER see the team on TV again because they won't sell 40 000 tickets for each home game, no CFL team does.

I didn't come out and say it last week, but it's clear this week, either the owners are GREEDY, or they have some bad management going on. All in all, it's a pathetic way for an organization to close the season on their fans. The last four games, two home games, will not be broadcast on TV. REALLY sucks when the season is only 18 games long.

Oh well, if they play that game I"ll just play mine and choose not to cover the Stamps when they're blacked out. You can vote with your feet by simply withdrawing from Stampeders stuff, stop going to games, and hit the organization square in the fattening wallet.
