Sharad purnima is celebrated on the full moon day of Ashwin month (October – November) of Hindu calendar. It is also known as Sharat purnima or Kojaagari purnima.

Sharad Purnima: Full of Life

Sharad purnima marks the beginning of Sharad ritu (season) of the year. It is the full moon day. It is said that on the day of Sharad purnima the moon showers amrit of life on all living entities of the earth. The moon appears very bright as the monsoon ends just before this day. The moon seems to shower special joy, merriment and tranquility on sharad purnima.

Legends and Significance of Sharad Purnima

Sharad purnima is associated with ‘Rasa leela’ of Lord Krishna. Thus the day is also referred as Raas Leela Diwas or Raas Lila day. The gopis of Vrindavan wanted to dance with their beloved Krishna. As Krishna fulfills all the desires of His devotees, He arranged such that on this day all the gopis could dance with Lord Krishna. On this night maximum devotion or love between Gopis and Lord Krishna was manifested.

The significance of Sharad poornima is mentioned in the tenth chapter of Srimad Bhagavatam. It is also said that on this day, the moon is closest to the earth. The rays of the moon have special curative properties which are so nourishing. Sharad purnima is a significant day especially in places like Mathura, Vrindavan, Braja and Nathawara.

Beliefs and Observations of Sharad Purnima

* Sharad purnima has a great religious significance. It is said that anyone who observes fasting on this day will be bestowed of ever virtuous life of health, wealth and happiness.
* Some believe Lakshmi devi, the goddess of fortune, was born on this day. Anyone who worships Lakshmi devi on this day and remains vigilant whole night will be blessed with everlasting money even though he does not have Lakshmi yoga in his/her horoscope.
* It is believed that one should drink cold milk during the fast on this day. This is verified scientifically as follows: During this weather the days are hot and nights are cold. The body gets more ‘pitta’ due to this environment. By consuming milk and rice flakes one can decrease ‘pitta’ in the body.
* Many people observe fast on this day. Anyone who observes this fast should avoid solid foods. If the person likes to fast completely during the day, he should take a mixture of rice flakes and cold milk in the night.
* In the states of Gujarat and West Bengal, sharad purnima is celebrated as a grand festival.
* In Orissa, this day is celebrated as Kumar* purnima. Kumar is handsome son of Lord Shiva who was born on this day. Unmarried girls who wish a nice, handsome husband worship Kumara on this day.
* In some parts of India the sun god and moon god are worshipped on sharad purnima.

One other thing worth a mention is when you visit Creative Chakra Spa, you use the facilities for just you alone, a healing retreat, or with the party you came with rather than a group of people that you don't know!

Here are the many benefits: Sitting in a sauna for a period of time will lead to sweating, which has many health benefits. Infrared saunas, specifically, are used for weight loss and relaxation. Infrared, a type of light, is used to heat objects in the sauna instead of air. One’s respiratory system is not exposed to high heat as in conventional sauna. It saves lots of time as well.

Quote from the Journal of the American Medical Association stating: "A moderately conditioned person can easily sweat off 500 grams in a sauna, consuming nearly 300 kcal, which is equivalent to running 2-3 miles. A heat-conditioned person can easily sweat off 600-800 kcal with no adverse effects. While the weight of the water loss can be regained by drinking water, the calories consumed will not be. These saunas, based on infrared technology, are more effective as heat reaches deeper in the skin unlike conventional saunas. Deep heat penetration allows removal of toxins, alcohol, nicotine and metals. It helps in curing chronic fatigue; promotes muscle growth; raises growth hormones level; and reduces cellulite. Calories used in half an hour in an infrared sauna session are more than that used while running for the same time.

Infrared saunas are very helpful for cancer patients. They raise oxygenation and remove radio active residues. Infrared saunas are good for chronic infections.

Infrared saunas require 90% less energy and heats much faster than traditional saunas. This sauna can also be used for patients suffering from varicose veins, metal implants, hypertension and diabetes where conventional saunas do not help.

In a traditional sauna the air temperature typically runs between 169 to 190 °F (76 to 88 °C), though temperatures over 200 °F (93 °C) are sometimes encountered. The hot air causes the body to heat up, and eventually results in a sweat. Water is thrown on the stones to achieve a "steam shock". This produces a quick "high". Some add herbs or oil like eucalyptus. Traditionally, ones skin is beaten with a bunch of birch twigs. When the heat becomes intolerable one cools down under a cold shower or, as in Finland, by jumping into a frozen lake.

One of the ways that infrared sauna use is beneficial for a wide range of ailments is through the increase in circulation that it causes in the body.[2] Increased circulation is often believed to be helpful in a variety of ways, and is generally regarded as beneficial for health.[3]

Infrared sauna may provide benefit to patients with rheumatoid arthritis and ankylosing spondylitis. A pilot study involving the use of infrared sauna over a 4-week period resulted in short-term improvement regarding pain and stiffness, reduction in fatigue, and a trend towards long-term beneficial effects.[4]

The infrared rays penetrate the body over 1.5 inches, which creates a deep heating effect in the muscle tissues and internal organs without stressing the heart muscle.

After an initial warming up period, the body begins its natural cooling off process of perspiring. Three things are accomplished during this phase:

1. Waste products and toxins such as alcohol, nicotine and heavy metals are removed from the cells and excreted through the pores of the skin.

2. The skin sheds any old skin cells leaving it glowing and immaculately clean.

3. As the body expends energy to produce sweat, the heart beats harder and faster, which has a conditioning effect on the cardiovascular system plus is an effective weight control for people who can't exercise.

The infrared sauna is an hour well spent supporting the natural detoxification systems of the body and relaxing deeply into a comfortable heat.

Is there any difference between saunas?

Let's get started by talking about the those that are just looking for a traditional sauna. So what's wrong with getting one of them? Absolutely nothing. They're fine, and for short sessions they feel great. Unfortunately, the traditional sauna does come up short in many of the benefits you could be experiencing from using an infrared sauna.

First, the temperature that the traditional sauna needs to reach for your body to sweat is way too high to safely handle for any extended period of time. Doctors typically say that anything longer than 20 minutes at those high temperatures is not good for your body. In fact, it could actually be putting a strain on your heart.

This is the exact opposite of what you could expect from using an infrared sauna. Because the infrared saunas heat penetrates the body much deeper (up to 1 3/4 inches compared to the traditional sauna which only penetrates approximately 1/8 of an inch), your body can get a good detoxifying sweat going at about 120 degrees as compared to 180 degrees required from a traditional sauna.

Many doctors are starting to recommend infrared saunas to their patients for many ailments, some of which are inflammation, weight loss, lowering cholesterol, and lowering blood pressure! Another amazing advantage of this deep penetrating heat is its ability to detoxify the body. The heat pulls out toxins deep under the skin and exfoliates them through the skin. Toxins like mercury, lead, car emissions, tobacco, mold and hundreds of other pollutants our bodies are bombarded with on a daily basis.

By detoxifying the body of these pollutants we are able to stop them from accumulating in our system and in doing so prevent possible disease and premature aging of our skin, body and mind. At the same time we are strengthening our immune system which keeps us running at our peak.

Wow, so much fun, the last 3 days on the set at Raleigh Studios, I so enjoy being part of business, I was on stand-by to do massage on set for a famous actress/model and it was a wonderful experience.
Travis, came by and shot a short video of me for his very popular facebook page and the catering was so excellent that I came to the realization - we are going into a new decade and I am looking back at the rapid growth that all the people around us have met, sometimes lessons in terms we would rather not face such as basic items as having food and not losing your home, all around us, we have seen these events occur or we have experienced other peoples loss and holding onto our own, keeping strong in the storm of 2009!
I realized this year above all others, the positive we can take is "Excellence prevails", mediocre just leaves out the door, I notice more and more people are excellent wherever I look and the winners of 2009 are those who keep that integrity of excellence in all manners.
