Bisexual Blues – The Forgotten Workplace Minority
Employment law in many parts of the world protects employees against discrimination based on their actual or perceived sexual orientation.

Will the Growing Wave of LGBT Seniors Get Services and Protection?
The primary benefit of LGBT visibility is the consequent ability to demand services, equal rights and protections at the local, state and federal levels.

Bisexual Pastor Protests Stance Taken on Team
An openly bisexual pastor continues to cry foul ball in connection with his church’s softball team being put in the spotlight because of what the church believes and what he preaches from the pulpit.

The Rev. James Semmelroth Darnell of St. John United Church of Christ in St. Clair said his church team was banned from the loosely organized and informal St. Clair church softball league that plays on Tuesday and Thursday nights at Evergreen and Orchard parks because of the beliefs he and the church have on gays and lesbians, and because Darnell himself is bisexual.

The Doctor Is Out… And Outspoken: An Interview With Dr. Lisa Diamond
When Dr. Lisa Diamond gave a keynote speech at the recent BECAUSE conference, I just had to sit up and listen. As whipsmart as she is apologetically outspoken, this University of Utah psychology professor has her finger on the pulse of human sexuality research — and the attention of homophobic and biphobic conservatives who try to twist her findings to further their own agenda. She’s the last person who’s going to take that lying down.

Legacy: Looking Back at the Queer/Bi Movement and the Road Ahead
Bisexual activism has been taken up by newer generations in America and elsewhere, the latest examples being four bi leaders listed in The Advocate’s “40 Under 40.” That such a sometimes-stodgy/sometimes-surly frienemy of bi people (at least in the past) would now list a bi leader, let alone four, among a select few is itself a sign of progress — and of the legacy of the bi movement to date.

May 2012 Cover Girl: Anna Paquin
An enigmatic actress? I didn’t know they still existed. We had Marlene Dietrich in the 1930’s, the ultra private Jodie Foster in the 80’s/ 90’s and all those other elusive starlets in between. But now? In an era where reality TV, Twitter, and TMZ have excessively fed our addiction for knowing all there is to know about stars? Any mystery has seemingly faded. At least I thought it had until I sat down for a sunny March afternoon lunch at Santa Monica’s M Kitchen with Anna Paquin and the orange peach smoothie she ordered. Successfully concealing a baby bump under layers of charcoal wool along with those Raisinette eyes hiding behind turquoise shades, I realized that she just might be our contemporary mysterious starlet.

Sexual Reorientation
There has been a recent shift in the political and legal treatment of bisexuals. Since Ruth Colker, Naomi Mezey, and Kenji Yoshino began writing about the phenomenon of bisexual erasure and the resulting invisibility of the bisexual from sexual-orientation law and the LGBT rights movement, something strange has happened. Bisexuality is suddenly hypervisible.

COMMUNITY VOICES: Domestic violence in same-sex relationships
Researchers and statisticians, clinicians and authors continue to study the issue of LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender) violence in intimate relationships. Is it the same as heterosexual intimate partner violence? Is it different? If so, in what ways? Well, the jury has been out, so to speak, for several years and the information supports the fact that of course, intimate partner violence occurs in same-sex relationships.

The right to marry is only the first step
The discussion started with the premise that it is obvious that same-sex couples should be able to get married. Winterson described this as “necessary for equality” and “obvious”. The rest of the panel agreed – as did most of the audience. Winterson asked all those who didn’t think marriage equality is self-evidently important to raise their hand. A lonely hand waved in the packed venue.

Limited Expression of Homosexuality in Black Hollywood
In general, there are few role models in Hollywood for young homosexuals of color. The few celebrities who are speculated to identify as lesbian or bisexual tend to keep their identities private. The ones who identify as straight tend to stray away from any inclination of homosexuality, revealing a stimga towards gays in the black community.

[Publishers Weekly] Prep school. Wrestling. Unconventional sexual practices. Viennese interlude. This bill of particulars could only fit one American author: John Irving. His 13th novel (after Last Night in Twisted River) tells the oftentimes outrageous story of bisexual novelist Billy Abbott, who comes of age in the uptight 1950s and explores his sexuality through two decadent decades into the plague-ridden 1980s and finally to a more positive present day. Sexual confusion sets in early for Billy, simultaneously attracted to both the local female librarian and golden boy wrestler Jacques Kittredge, who treats Billy with the same disdain he shows Billy’s best friend (and occasional lover) Elaine. Faced with an unsympathetic mother and an absent father who might have been gay, Billy travels to Europe, where he has affairs with a transgendered female and an older male poet, an early AIDS activist. Irving’s take on the AIDS epidemic in New York is not totally persuasive (not enough confusion, terror, or anger), and his fractured time and place doesn’t allow him to generate the melodramatic string of incidents that his novels are famous for. In the end, sexual secrets abound in this novel, which intermittently touches the heart as it fitfully illuminates the mutability of human desire.

[arielleloren.com] BIDEOLOGY is a compelling, feature-length documentary that explores women dating bisexual men. Originally conceptualized as a web series, The Bi-deology Project, it sparked an important conversation on the “heterosexual” relationship, as many assume it involves two strictly heterosexual individuals. What do women expect from male partners attracted to both sexes? How are their belief systems informed? In the media, there are limited references to male bisexuality, leaving the “down low” as the public’s favorite synonym. The cast of BIDEOLOGY exposes the diversity in “heterosexual” relationships, and what all women can learn from men who don’t have a straight sexual identity.

All Happy Mornings
Docaviv 2012 – Israeli Films in Competition

Synopsis: A personal journey into bisexuality. The film exposes the passionate, wild world in which the filmmaker is found while documenting his relationship with Chen, a rising rock star. Facing pressure from his surrounding, Yefman tries to find a way to feel complete without having to explain. Alongside the personal dilemma stands his unique family: his brother lives with a gay partner, his sister is in NY, and the parents long for grandchildren. They make him confront the conflict of his life, much like the men he talks to confidentially. As the crisis becomes inevitable, a new factor emerges and illuminates things in a new light.

American Translation follows a sexually ambiguous Frenchman as he tours his native countryside with his naive American lover in pursuit of the ultimate thrill. From the moment they meet, brooding Chris (Pierre Perrier) and the beautiful Aurore (Lizzie Brocherè) fall instantly and passionately in love but it’s not long before their intense connection is consumed by Chris’s dark obsession with gay men. Before long, the pair embarks on a violent and sexual journey filled with seduction and destruction of young gay hustlers. Hard-hitting, intensely sexy and wildly controversial, American Translation is a twisted Bonnie and Clyde for a new generation. American Translation, will arrive on DVD on April 17, 2012.

Note: While this blog tries to be biased towards positive bisexuals in media, I also do recognize that in every group there is variety (or the ubiquitous “shades of gray”).

My thoughts as a reader:

I think with my burgeoning new knowledge of what I like and don’t like in erotica and in particular in the grouping of (menage a trois) and apparently I really hate the switcheroo. Menage a trois implies new or established relationship that implying lasting beyond the book. The thing about romance and erotica I noticed is that they do stick to a formula. I mean the formulas are old in the genre no matter how it’s written but the idea of two or in this case three people should be in a “happy ending” between the people together. Let’s get back to the switcheroo.

The example is “TriplePlay” by Rhyannon Byrd, it started off nice and sweet and I was interested but basically it was a “one-night stand” situation where the guy was a third wheel and told him to shove off turning it into a monogamous relationship and frankly pissed me off because I kept waiting for the threesome to occur and at the end simply wasn’t satisfied.

I think there should be a classification of “ONS” one night stand for menage a trois books something that signify a relationship that I don’t want to read. You have to understand, the media in general celebrates, publishes and monetize the “heteronormative relationship” as the default. They would have to put on the thinking cap for them to stray from that situation. I discovered slash fanfic and a few years ago it filled the space that I couldn’t or wouldn’t get from TV and movies in general, so in original fiction I don’t have the need for slash nor het but I wanted a space left for triad relationships.

With an “ONS” tag maybe I don’t have to deal with het or slash relationship be but fulfilled with another aspect I want in my media.
