Review - Mario Badescu Seaweed Cleansing Soap & Cleansing Lotion

This is the first time I've tried anything from the Mario Badescu skin care range and I would have never known about them if I hadn't recieved these samples along with a large purchase from Beauty Bay. I've been trying it for two weeks now and I think it's time to share a review on the Cleansing Soap and the Cleansing Lotion.

I have a very simple skin care regime- I like to use a gentle daily exfoliater followed by a moisturiser. Its always worked for my skin and I rarely get attacked by blemishes. However, my skin is combination/ dry - something which only gets solved when I have my moisturiser on, so I'm always on the lookout for a treatment for the tightness and occasional dry patches. I use moisturising face masks, exfoliaters, cleansers and toners on a weekly basis, in a hope for the correct treatment but I've never found something that really works for me. I was away for a week in wet, windy Devon so it was perfect for me to take these travel sized bottles and give them a test run!

Seaweed Cleansing Soap (£11.95 236ml)

This mild anti-inflammatory cleanser gently exfoliates, removes makeup, dirt without interfering with your skin's natural moisture balance. It soothes the skin with seaweed extract nutritions and minerals while gently buffing the skin with seaweed flakes. It might not be for everyone but I quite enjoy the refreshing seaweed smell. It contains no soap but however, it contains bladderwrack extract which is most know for its medical use for inflamed joints. It claims to be suitable for all skin types but targeted more for dry skin.

So I've been using this creamy cleanser twice a day, massaging it in circular motions on wet skin then washing away with lukewarm water. It removes makeup but I still felt the need for a makeup wipe before cleansing. On the third day, I got one small spot on my cheek but other that than, I didn't experience any negative reactions, nor any extreme positive changes. However, after two weeks of daily use, my skin feels less dry than usual and I can sense minimal tightness before I moisturise.

Seaweed Cleansing Lotion (£12.95 236ml)

This mild, non-alcoholic cleansing lotion is a non drying toner that cleans, soothes and disinfects dry and sensitive skin with seaweed and aloe vera gel while the Witch Hazel extract removes dirt that clogs up pores. Once again, the seaweed smell is present in this watery liquid.

Ive been applying this toner, after cleansing, using a cotton pad in outward circular motion on my cheeks, forehead and chin. My pores were instantly minimised which could be due to the clear out of dirt and sebum. My skin also felt refreshed but I think that's phychological as I see the 'dirt' on the cotton pad! However, my skin wasnt inflamed which is a huge plus for me and I was very glad to find out that it's suitable for combination and sensitive skin.

Review - Lush Benefit They're Real Tinted Lash Primer

Benefit have cheekily let all readers of December's ELLE UK try their latest product They're Real! Tinted Lash Primer (mink brown) nine whole weeks before the rest of the world! The mascara from the They're Real! family is already a bestseller so expectations are high.This decent sized sample comes in a 3g tube. Although the tube design is not a miniature replica of the real product, the brush and the bristles are of the exact match. There is nothing more annoying than trying on mascaras without the brush its designed to be used with!I was a little hesitant about trying this product as I already have a mascara that works for my lashes and I don't need anything more to enhance them BUT as I am a beauty junkie, I had to see what the hype was about! Do we need another primer? Do our eyelashes really need a primer? Isn't my mascara enough?So, scroll down to see photos of the application process and I'll also let you know my final verdict at the end.Here are my eyelashes- sparse, thin and short. At the moment I use Bourjois Volume Clubbing Ultra Black Which gives me the much needed volume and I only ever use this mascara as its the only one that really holds the curl. I'm hoping the tinted lash primer will give me more volume and help make the mascara application smoother.As always, I curled my top lashes to start off with. Nothing too dramatic, just clamped at the bottom and the middle of the lash to create a curl.So I applied the They're Real! Tinted Lash Primer to my top lashes to begin with. The brush is flexible and the bristles really help separate the lashes which is great and the Pro Vitamin B5 enriched primer sets a great base for the mascara. As you can see, the mink brown tint can be worn alone as it does give the lashes some definition for a natural look (plus its water resistant!) but for me, the formula is too thin to be worn alone and it doesn't seem buildable on its own. On top of the tinted lash primer, I've applied one coat of my chosen mascara, which is the Bourjois Volume Clubbing Ultra Black and to be really honest with you, I do see a subtle difference. My lashes look very similar to when I've applied no lash primer but two coats of mascara. I can see that the primer has provided a slight oomph of volume but nothing more.So I applied the tinted lash primer to my bottom lashes too and straight away I notice that it's quite difficult to use the brush on the lower lashes. The tip of the brush if slightly larger so that doesn't help get into the corners. However, the primer really separated my lashes and added a slight noticeable amount of volume.Lastly, I applied a coat of mascara to the bottom lashes and once again, there isn't any dramatic changes. It looks like I've applied two coats of mascaras, which is great I suppose, as I am using less mascara. However, once my eyelashes were dry, I applied more primer to the tips of my top lashes to see if I could build up the volume and it worked a little. I applied more mascara to the tips only , where I added more primer, and I could see added length and slight volume build up.

Although I wasn't too impressed (as I hoped I would be), one of my work colleague did pay me a compliment on my eyelashes. She said they were more noticeable than most other days! That made me very happy as I love a good lash day! As you can see in the photo, my eyelashes are curled up high and believe me when I say that they stayed up ALL day long!

Overall, I am not too excited about this tinted primer after testing it -purely because I feel as though I can achieve the same results with just my mascara. It's a little commodity which I personally don't feel the need to use. However, after a few uses, like any other primers, I can imagine wanting to invest in another tube for the occasional special days. I was convinced I didn't need a primer before but now I use it every morning before my foundation.. so you never know!

It's definitely something I'd recommend a friend to try because this lash primer subtely enhances, volumises, lengthens. Seems to be buildable too so if you are interested in experimenting, grab your little sample before everyone else or wait patiently till the release on the 26th December 2015.

Although it's a men's fragrance, I would happily douse myself with this! Unlike many men fragrances that are pungently masculine, the earthy notes in Eau de Cèdre makes it suitable for a woman too. Maybe not all women- but it's a definite yes from me! From experience, this fragrance lingers on the skin for up to 6 hours.

Since graduating last summer, I've been busy trying to build a career in the world of fashion PR but since things didn't go as planned, I've returned back to doing things that I love doing- MAKE UP!

So this is my first ever test this year (normally I would be on test number 6842 by this time of the year) and who better to shoot with than the people who I worked with through out my years in university- ‎Scarlett Giannotti on styling / creative directing and Sophie Lobban on camera! We set base at Scarlett's work place ASOS HQ and we all had the pleasure of meeting a gorgeous Kiwi model Kendel from The Hive Management. Under Scarlett's instruction, we had metallic golds and metallic greens to play with around the face and Sophie made sure the colours were captured the right way (as always!) on her digi and film cameras. We also had some extra help from my bessie Jack who took all the photos below :)

It's good to be back shooting again!

Review - Lush Popcorn lip scrub

I've been using the popcorn flavoured lip scrub from Lush for over a month now and I thought it might be a good idea to write a little review.

Its simply a gentle exfoliator for your lips but as its a LUSH lip scrub, you get more than just a pot of sugar. You can choose from a small range of flavours but this flavour in particular could be a hit and miss for some. Nonthless, the packaging is minimal, as always with all Lush products and the glass pot is compact enough to fit snug in your makeup bag- which is great for us all as you can scrub away whilst you're on the move.

I've previously used the bubblegum flavoured lip scrub from their range- which seems to be a favourite amongst most but the same cannot be said about this flavour. The buttery caramel flavouring tastes of a strong salt / sweet popcorn which seems to confuse most people. I personally love the smell and the taste (its always tempting to lick the remains on the lips!) but it might be worth testing it out at the store before purchasing.

"Hand made with fresh ingredients" this lip scrub is basically sugar and sea salt- with added extra virgin coconut oils and organic jojoba oils that helps moisturise, buff and prime the lips. All ingredients are natural except for the "safe synthetic" flavouring.

When my lips are dehydrated, I use it after my face wash, just before moisturising. I dampen the area with warm water, apply a pinch of lip scrub to gently exfoliate my skin and then i wash away the excess. Then, I always apply a coat of lip balm to keep the lips hydrated.

If your lips are chapped, I would advise using a clean toothbrush to gently brush away chapped skin (dampen lips before) before applying the lip scrub.

Some may get really addicted to this lip scrub due to the taste and its tempting to scrub away all day long but I would personally refrain from using it constantly. Its also a good idea to gently exfoliate the delicate lip area.

Overall, its a great little pot of sweetness heaven that you can pop in your bag so you never have to walk around with the horrible feeling of dry lips! Great as a little present for teenagers, or even mums!

You get 25g for the price of £5.50 and I promise you, as long as you dont eat it, it'll last you a good few months.

Black, Iridescent glitter and Baby Oil -Lip Art

Test 1 experimenting with different shades of surfaces and the effect it has on a mixture of baby oil and iridescent glitter. Really pleased with the result of black lipstick + baby oil on the lip (top left & right). Seems to photograph really well next to direct sunlight. Just as pleased with the way Sophie Lobban has photographed the bottom two images but the iridescent 'gooey' mixture needs more development and the black lip appears too 'perfect'.

Review - Smashbox Photo Finish Foundation Primer

The Smashbox Photo Finish Foundation Primer is one of the most talked about Primers out there

It is also highly recommended by most make-up artist and now I know why!

First impressions of the product was the texture of the product

This primer leaves skin feeling velvety and matte- without drying my skin at all

I could not see any difference once I applied a layer of primer onto my skin after my moisturiser (as directed)

but once I applied my RIMMEL Wake Me Up Foundation on top of the primer

I could see the real difference, as pictured below...

My main reason for using a primer is to conceal the large pores that mainly appear around my nose

The grapeseed and green tea infused formula helps soften my large pores

ready for my foundation to glide on smoothly on top ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

Smashbox Photo Finish Primer claims to 'fill in fine lines and pores'

so it's great for people with uneven, rough textured skin. I highly recommend it!

It can also be applied to smooth fine lines- esp under the eyes

It is an oil free formula so I apply it onto my t-zone area to make sure my make-up stay on longer

Sometimes, I like to apply it all over my face as it prevents my foundation sticking to dry patches

and also cause the primer leaves my skin feeling smooth and silky like a baby's butt!

I bought mine from Boots for £12.50 for a 12 ml travel sized tube

Perfect for first time users!

Review - LUSH - Bubblegum Lip Scrub

You are all aware of this product! I am sure of it!

The LUSH Bubblegum lip scrub is one of the most talked about lip products

especially since we are heading into the winter months (ie, dry, chapped, flaky lips)

every girl I know is heading into LUSH to purchase (or restock!) their own pot of deliciousness!

There were four flavours in my local LUSH store- BUBBLEGUM, COLA, POPCORN & MINT CHOC

I really liked the popcorn but it didn't smell as strong as I hoped it would but the mint had a fairly strong scent

and I just wanted to eat the cola flavour! I'm being picky.. I'm sure I will buy them all very soon!

In the end, I thought about the clients I would be using it on and therefore, I went for the bubblegum flavour.

Bubblegum has a fairly strong scent and you can taste the sweetness of the sugar

but I would advise you test it out at the store before purchasing it

the staff members are super helpful and are willing to let you try out the scrubs!

Not only does the sugar exfoliate the dead skin but the natural oil leaves my lips feeling moisturised!

A perfect smooth base for your new bold berry lipstick to glide on!

Sometimes, right after I scrub, my lips feel a little 'plump'

and that is when I apply a slick of lip balm making my lips look healthy and fuller.

It's tempting to scrub everyday but I would advise you to only use it when necessary

ie- only when your lips ARE chapped! not when you THINK they are...

As it says on the package, it's HOMEMADE with FRESH INGREDIENTS and NO PRESERVATIVES

I also love the fact that it's a vegan product!

After a pinch of this stuff and a good scrub, I wipe away the excess using warm water.

To be totally honest, well, most of the time, I lick off the excess because it says so on the label ^

I'm not sure if it's absolutely edible so please don't go eating the whole pot!

I'm tempted to, as I said before, it looks like SLUSHIE!

Ps, The first time I ate it, I was left with a fairly unpleasant after taste but you just soon get used to it

as the bubblegum flavour takes over!

How I fill in my eyebrows

There are a few generic rules floating about when it comes to GROOMING EYEBROWS. Now, whether you want to follow the crowd or not; it is totally up to you. If you don’t agree with the eyebrow arch guide or you dont want your eyebrow to be the same colour as your hair, then that is totally up to you! From my personal opinion and experiences, I’ve found that grooming eyebrows is something that you learn through time and experimentation. Even if you pay to have an amazing HD eyebrow consultation, you will still be left unsatisfied as that is simply not how YOU want/like them. Once, I changed a bridesmaid’s curve shaped eyebrow into the ‘universally accepted’ arch eyebrow as I thought she would be over the moon (She did look fab!) but instead, she kindly requested to keep her old eyebrows. I was mortified! BUT that taught me how to respect people’s preferences when it comes to makeup.

Regarding the products I use, the same concept applies. There is such a wide choice available in the market from cream fillers to powder filler, it is up to you. I will be showing you how I use a mixture of pencil, powder and brow mascara, amongst a whole range of tools and brushes.

My fascination with eyebrows started back in my teenage years and that is when I started plucking them in all different areas. Bad mistake because now, they’ve stopped growing and I have lots of patchy areas! Anyways, like I mentioned before, feel free to draw in (or maybe, don’t draw!) your eyebrows the way and the shape in which you want them but here is a step by step guide on how I’ve been filling my eyebrows recently to cover up patchy areas, creating a shape that frames my face, the way I want them to.

One main tip: ALWAYS use two mirrors! A compact mirror for a detailed view, a bigger mirror for a far away view so you can see how the eyebrow looks from both angles and distances WHILST you are drawing on your eyebrows. Trust me, it makes a big difference!

1. The foremost important thing to do is to pluck stray hair and shape the eyebrows roughly in a desired shape. Sometimes, I find it easier to draw in my eyebrows and then pluck away the strays so I know I am not plucking away hair that is not meant to be plucked.

2. Then I comb the eyebrows in two directions (upwards and outwards) to smooth and tame the hair.

3. Initially, I fill my eyebrows with a Brow Definer by The Body Shop shade 01 Blonde & Auburn (£8). This eyebrow definer is one of my favourite eyebrow tools. I know many who don't like the texture of the product as you need to put quite a bit of pressure for the product to glide creamily onto the skin but it works perfectly for me as I hold the pencil loosely and lightly 'sketch' in the desired shape. This product doesn't smudge or run very easily.

4. Then I move onto darkening the shape using the brown contour powder in Face Form by Sleek Makeup shade Medium (£9.99). I find it easy to pack in the colour, whilst staying within the lines using a small angled brush by Real Techniques from their Starter Set (£21.99 @ Boots). Notice the inner part of my eyebrow- I only shade in the outer 3/4 of the eyebrow to create a gradient effect.

5. Now that the eyebrows are filled, the next step is to clean and sharpen the edges. I use a creamy liner Eau La La Liner by Sleek Makeup shade Molasses (£4.99) to outline the bottom edge of the eyebrow. This product is very versatile (can be used as a lip liner, eye liner, etc), pigmented and waterproof so along with the perks, you also have the downfalls- it glides on so easily on the skin that you need to lightly sketch the line in order to avoid a harsh line.

6.The next step is to blend the line onto the rest of the eyebrow. Making sure that I leave the inner corner lighter in colour than the rest of the eyebrow, I use the liner itself and an angled brush to feather out the line in a mini upward flick motion.

7. I set the eyebrows with a Brow Drama Sculpting Mascara by Maybelline shade Dark Brown (£4.99) by brushing the hair upwards first (to make sure the product is evenly applied) and then outwards to set the eyebrows in a desired shape.

8. Next, I use my trusty Pro Longwear Concealer by MAC shade NW15 which is a few shades lighter than my skin and I use it mostly for highlighting purposes. In this case, I apply it along with my Concealer Brush by Real Technique from their Core Collection (£21.99 @ Boots) to highlight the area below my eyebrow and also to give my eyebrow a clean, crisp edge. If I've made any mistakes in the previous steps, I use the concealer to 'erase' any mistakes too.

9. I use the excess concealer that is left on the brush to erase mistakes I might have made on the top of my eyebrows.

10. Blend! This concealer dries very quickly so I work on one eye before moving onto the other. I use Crease Brush by Real Techniques from their Starter Set (£21.99 @ Boots) which is dense and fluffy- perfect for blending. Whilst blending, I'm always careful, trying not to smudge/ erase the sharp eyebrow lines!

Here is the final result (left) compared to the photo I started with (right). Finito!

Just before a night out Allison said 'I'll be ready in two secs, just need to change my scrunchie..'

she swapped her black one for a white one AHA! So cute!

Anyways, I bought mine yesterday from boots - TWO FOR £5 AT BOOTS?!?! WTF. SMH.

But to be honest, the scrunchie holds up ALL my hair at once so I guess I should not be complaining

And I've also been wearing other outfits than my usual- shirt, jumper, shorts, tights. booooooo! BORING!

We had the pleasure to meet the lovely Emma @ Storm who just had the most prettiest eyes!

I made the most of it by putting a lot of attention on the eyes (pops of greens and purples)

and highlighter was used all over the face for that dewy look I seem to be in love with atm and even the lips!

I braided the hair - in all sorts of braids possible! Loved it! But now I look back on it

and I think I could have made the look a bit messier and bigger.

Allison and Matti did a really good job by mixing the lingerie pieces they sourced

with a lot of other pieces from the highstreet stores.
