Calliflower got a nice mention on Leo Laporte’s The Tech Guy show last week.

David is blind and wants to know if there’s a free teleconferencing service for him? Leo says that Calliflower is a good option.

David has created a podcast called “NO EYES REQUIRED,” where he talks about technology for the blind. David also has a music label! He taught himself computers and podcasting to boot! Not bad for a 13 year old!

Yep. Conference calling for free…iotum, a communications company, recently launched a new service called calliflower. If you’ve used a business-oriented conference bridge before, it has all of those features, but it’s even a bit more than that.

From their web-based dashboard,you can create calls and invite participants as well as manage and record the call. It also provides you and the other callers with a visual information about the call and the people on it. If you have documents related to the call, you can upload those into the interface to share them with everyone…

The great thing about Web conferencing is the collaborative tools included in the service. They make information easier to share, interpret, absorb and present.

Note: a nice review from Jessica Bosari, even though some of the features she mentions are only available in the premium (paid-for) version of Calliflower.

Calliflower can save the call recording as an MP3 file and post it to iTunes for free as a podcast. Other nice features include SMS text, e-mail reminders, and various administrator features.

iotum partners up with Samsung Canada for promotion – Techvibes Blog

Ottawa’s iotum has partenered with Samsung Canada for a promotion offering a year of their conference calling service to Samsung customers.

From March 1st to April 30th 2010, Samsung resellers can offer customers purchasing select Samsung laptops and netbooks a free year of the premium Calliflower conference call web service, valued at $600.

Samsung dealers who sign up for the promotion will also receive a comission from iotum when customers sign-up after the free 12-month period.

It’s certainly a unique take on the “freemium” model of selling.

Owners of qualifying Samsung computers can sign-up with their device's serial on this page.

Bottom line: Skype Access opens up lower cost access for participation in a CalliFlower conference call in every country where Skype is available. Incorporation of Skype access also fits into Skype’s “Skype Everywhere” goal. In this case calls can be accessed not only via Skype on a PC but also from any Skype offering on a mobile platform. This is enhanced for iPhone users where they will also find an iPhone client for setting up and managing a CalliFlower conference call.

Calliflower Adds Skype Calling

At ITEXPO Iotum announced their Calliflower hosted conferencing and collaboration platform added support for Skype calling. Calliflower, a web-based conferencing and collaboration platform can now be reached from any Skype-enabled PC or phone as well as from traditional PSTN phones. I spoke with Alec Saunders, CEO of Iotum in the ITEXPO press room and asked him how he was connecting to the Skype cloud. He told me they were leveraging Skype for SIP.
