FTC to keep a check on prepaid calling cards

There was an complaint in the past from readers that they're not getting the promised minutes on their prepaid calling cards, and it seems that the Federal Trade Commission agrees there is a problem.
The FTC has asked a federal judge in New Jersey to order a halt to the alleged illegal practices of CTA, a major distributor of prepaid calling cards across the country. In the last quarter of 2007 alone, CTA's revenue from the sale of cards exceeded $28 million, the FTC says. It accused the CTA of misrepresenting the number of calling minutes consumers get, failing to disclose that consumers' cards will be charged whether or not the calls go through and charging hidden fees.
