1: What was the first job you had in LA?

Maaaan! I had a lot of jobs at first!! I guess, my first 'real' job was as a production assistant on a late-night talk show (which is now off the air). I basically took care of the music acts. I would have to get Mary J. Blije water or order chicken and waffles for Snoop and his entourage.

2: What was it like working on “Gilmore Girls”?

Ah-may-zing!! It was one of my first acting gigs and I was SO nervous and excited.

3: You have appeared on three of the biggest medical dramas in the history of television (with the exception of certain soaps).What was it like working on “House”, “ER”, and of course “Grey’s”?

I really loved my role on House. I worked so hard on that episode. I finally felt like I got a chance to be an important part of a story-line. And working with Hugh Laurie was like a dream. He is such a delightful actor.

ER was a whole lotta laughs. John Leguizamo rocks and Ellen Degeneres was shooting her show on set that day. Fun, fun, fun!

Grey's was the first time that I was offered a role. After paying my dues for so long it felt AWESOME! Playing mega-pregnant was kinda cool too!!

4: You had a reoccurring role on the recently ended “Friday Night Lights”, what was that experience like for you?

My role as Waverly Grady was an actor's dream. I still pinch myself, I can't believe I got the opportunity to play an original character with such a challenging complexity. Gaius Charles was a hard-working, creative force to work with. It was such a privilege to work with amazing writers and directors like Stephen Kay and Jeffrey Reiner. I fell in love with Austin, Texas too!!

5: If you could choose a current television series to guest star in, what would it be and why?

Ooooh that's a hard one I have so many favorites!! Television is amazing these days. Hmmmmm!? I would have to say 'Shamless' on Showtime because I really enjoy working on projects with believable story-lines that aren't afraid to take exciting risks.

6:What was it like on the set of “Boston Public”?

Wow! I was there for like a blip. Mostly I remember a lot of energy and being very excited to meet Michael Rapport because I've always really enjoyed his work.

7: if you could work with any actress or actor you have never worked with before, who and why?

Meryl Streep or Sean Penn I really want to see how they work. So I can steal, I mean, learn from them :)

8: Are there any social networking sites you belong to?

I'm really enjoying my time on Twitter (@aashadavis). It's my very FIRST social networking site. I originally joined because I had to have an addy to get into this media party. I didn't think I would like it because I've always been a very private person but I'm so happy to promote the release of 'Pariah' this winter and I love interacting with all the interesting people.

I'm also on Google plus (+Aasha Davis) but I'm starting to think I'm the only one :(

9: If you could work with anyone you have previously worked with again, who and why?

Gabrielle Christian because she's such a great friend and it would be awesome to spend more time with her while we nurture our crafts.

10: Favorite show that's currently on air?

Uhhhh, just one!? Ummm...
'Breaking Bad'! No 'Modern Family'!! No actually 'Breaking Bad'! I don't know!!

11: What show do you wish would be put back on air? (Whether it is one either of you have worked on or not)

'Entourage'...I'm gonna miss Kevin Dillon's character, Drama so much!!

13: What is the best piece of advice you have ever received?

"Just keep doing good work and people will notice." (so, I keep trying my best)

14: Are there any projects that you’re currently working on and can discuss?

I just wrapped on an episode of 'Castle' on ABC. Really lovely cast and crew. I had such a blast!!

15: Let’s talk “Pariah”, by the way the trailer is fantastic – can’t wait to see the full film!

Oh Yaay!! I'm so glad you liked the trailer!! What are you doing Christmas day?!

Pariah is my first movie. I'm so proud of this story because I believe anyone can relate to wanting to find their individual place in this label-driven world. But most of all because it's a movie that I believe is gonna take you through a full spectrum of emotions. I really love that!!

16: Added: You’re going to be playing poker for a charitable cause with a couple of former cast mates in Vegas on Sept. 17, can you tell us a bit about that?

I'm so excited!! Aasha in Vegas is like, a kid in grass!! I love it there! Plus! My friends and I used to play Texas Hold 'Em every Friday so, I really miss the game. I'm a lil' rusty but am so honored to play for www.nclrights.org AND I get to hang with Gabrielle Christian and Maeve Quinlan in Vegas!! Whoo! Hooo!

17: Added: What went through your head when you found out thattwitter.com/aparros was fake? As many of the fans are fooled by posers a lot, what is it like when a friend/ former co-star is fooled?

I wish there were a way to have prevented it. I shared some pretty personal information with (?) !! :(

18: If you weren't an actress, you’d be a(n) _________ and why?

A TV executive, I love the entertainment business.

19: Raising the Bar, The Shield, or Las Vegas – which series was more fun working on, which was more serious, and which did you enjoy the most?

'Las Vegas' was the most fun (see question #16 lol!).

'The Shield' was the most serious. I felt very proud to be a part of that amazing series.

I really enjoyed 'Raising the Bar' because I got to work with my 'House' director again, Martha Mitchell. She's wonderful!!

20: Any final words for your fans?

I appreciate you all so much. You're such an integral part of what I do. My hope is that my characters, whether sweet or rotten, effect your life in a positive way. Thank you, thank you, thank you!!

SOUTH OF NOWHERE: REDEMPTION
Television Development 101

Hi everyone, Nancylee here… First of all, on behalf of myself, Matt, Mandy, Maeve and all of the amazing cast members and those behind the scenes who brought you South of Nowhere and our recent efforts to revive the show – THANK YOU! Our fans have been incredible. Faithful. Insightful. Encouraging. And have helped keep our SON family together and energized. After the show wrapped it’s original run, you followed us to whatever other projects or paths our careers have taken us. And we have never lost sight of this and so appreciate you coming along.

I wanted to take this opportunity to answer some of your questions about getting a show on the air, or in our case, back up and running. So here’s a quick overview of what we are trying to do with our self produced SON Redemption video and our goals for that. Along with a basics of the development process and how it works, why it takes so long and some of the obstacles along the way.

And more importantly, to show you how hard it is to get a show on TV. It’s like winning the lottery. Hundreds of pitches and scripts get bought by the networks each year. Out of those scripts the networks shoot very few. Only to put a handful on the air. It can take sometimes up to two years just to go all the way and not have your show even get shot. Which is why writers are always turning out new material, getting it out there, hoping our number will come up. If you are lucky enough to get a show on the air and it’s a hit for that network, then it’s much easier to get your next shows on the air -- the networks hoping to capture lightning in a bottle again and bring your audience with it.

Here is the path we are on with the SON movie/series --

Several months ago, Matt, Mandy, Maeve, Paige and myself were talking about this great energy that seemed to be circling around some version of South again. That no matter what project we were promoting, or convention or event we were at, everyone who approached us had something positive and personal to say about South Of Nowhere. We started talking about the pluses of doing a movie – 5 years later, and get a chance to give the characters some closure or launch a new chapter in their lives.

However, we had some steep obstacles in play. I did not create the characters, Tom Lynch did. It was his history and success with kids and young adult TV that got that show sold to a network. And he was kind enough to trust me with his show and characters when he hired me to write and run the show. But for me to create something new with his characters means I would need his permission and/or collaboration to use them in some other context. This was the smallest of issues. Tommy and I have worked on two other pilots since SON – one for Nick and one for ABC Family (neither of which made it on the air). And we were always looking for something else to do together and we loved our SON experience and family.

In the bigger legal scheme of things – while Tommy created the characters and gets royalties for that, he sold the show to Viacom for The N network. So we would have to take the new show or movie to Viacom as they own the original series. They have the first right to the show. If they didn’t want it, they would have to be willing to license it to another network. Highly unlikely. But Viacom is huge and owns a ton of networks and various brands. Good for us they own Teen Nick and more importantly, MTV – where SON was in reruns after The N evolved into Teen Nick.

Confused yet?

It used to be easy to sell a movie to a network as a “back door pilot.” Meaning if the movie does well on a network, you have just essentially tested it and can use that movie as the “pilot.” But most networks moved away from the movie to series franchise years ago. With the exception lately of CBS, Lifetime and MTV… Hello?! MTV! Now things were looking a little better on that side for us. MTV is now being helmed by a terrific and inspired man who has a positive history with both Tommy and myself. Not to mention, so many of the SON cast members have been auditioning for and doing shows with MTV lately, so they were very visible there and perfect for what MTV is turning out right now.

See where we going here?

Okay, so we had a plan that could work legally for us. Our next move was to come up with a pitch for what that movie might be and where the characters might be going. We spent some time working on that, talking about movies that resonated with the teen and 20 something audiences recently and over the years. Jumping the SON world ahead 5 years, thinking about an event that would bring everyone together, give us some drama and a place to go if it became a series. As we started to prepare a pitch, first to take to Tommy and then to the network, we decided to showcase our pitch in a bigger more visual way. Rather than just walk in the door with several pages and explain the story, we decided to produce a teaser of what the movie might be – but more importantly to show the network the faces, and the performances behind the characters.

I started writing, Matt started pulling the cast together, while we all worked on the producing the shoot during a very small window that Paige and I would be back in California. (We were headed to Dinah to promote Cowgirl Up – Yee ha!). Everyone we asked who was available showed up. And brought their A game. Long hours, working for free and for the love of this show and this family, we created the Redemption video that you all have been supporting.

A couple of days later we met with Tommy and surprised him with our idea and the video. It was an awesome meeting and reunion! Tommy had also been thinking about what was next for SON in all kinds of incarnations. And he was heading to MTV with a another pitch and thought it was also a great place and good timing for SON, as well.

The Precarious Pitch --

After that meeting, our Redemption gang decided that we would get you fans involved with the pitch process. Hoping that it would give Tommy some extra energy and show MTV that they already had a loyal fanbase who would show up for South Of Nowhere again. Twitter with instant feedback became the street we were taking our message to. You Tube became our network and place to track the traffic.

You all have been amazing – keeping the video hits and numbers climbing. Talking about what SON meant to you. Discussing the characters and what’s next for them. Basically blowing life again into this series. And when Tommy actually gets the opportunity to talk to the powers that be at MTV, we know that your voice will be a big selling point.

1) Pitch the idea 2) Sell the script 3) Shoot the Pilot 4) Testing 5) Pick-up 6) Broadcast and STAY ON THE AIR…. Start all over again.

Remember when I said networks hear hundreds of pitches in any given development season? All while running the day to day of the network and shows already in production and on the air. If you are someone like Tommy who is running his own production company and who has a huge track record for getting shows on the air, you actually get to talk to the President of the network along with the development team vs. a development representative who hears the pitch then “pitches it upstairs” to the head of the network. The fact that Tommy gets the head of the network in the pitch is the best case scenario. As you will know pretty quick the possibility of your pilot getting bought. But both Tommy and the network President are involved in so many other issues on any given day, it’s not unusual for a meeting to get moved. Then trying to reschedule for two very busy people is always a challenge. That’s why the SON meeting has been moved so many times.

Thank you for all your patience – understand that when Tommy gets in the room he may or may not pitch SON Redemption on that day. He has other projects to pitch, as well, and he’ll use his judgment on the timing and openness of the situation for SON. However, on the chance that he does, we will be on Twitter rallying the troops, showing MTV how much we love South of Nowhere. To that end, I’ll be doing follow up with MTV and circling around other scenarios for the cast we love to be involved in a project together.

COF: We understand you are working on a new project, "Who knows her better?", can you tell us about it?

CM:

Yes, this is a game show that is taped in front of a live studio audience in Chicago. This is sort of like Will and Grace meets the Newlywed game. We take a straight couple and the women’s gay best friend and through a series of questions we test to see “Who Knows Her Better”. Our first two shows were hosted by Elizabeth Keener from the L Word and the next 2 will be hosted by Georg Coleman from “Worst Cooks in America”. I have to say I was very nervous when we first did this because I had never done a game show. I thought it would be funny you just didn’t know until you actually do it. Thank goodness it turned out really well- which is why we are doing it again. After the show ended we had people asking if we were going to do it again. COF: What is the biggest difference that between filming a webseries vs a game show?

CM:

Because we did the game show live that is the biggest difference. If it wasn’t funny or interesting then we were in trouble. And you can cast a webseries so you know if someone is funny and then you can re-shoot the scenes until you hit the joke. You can’t really do that with a game show- you just have to hope people are funny and interesting or the whole show won’t work. You have much more to risk in a game show then a webseries cause you can’t re-do it or re-cast it.

COF: What drew your interest or inspired you to the behind the camera aspects of filmmaking/ production?

CM:

I was in the 8^th grade and my family got a video camera- the kind that used the huge VHS tapes. And I would grab it and would do music videos with my younger sister and friends and then for my 15^th birthday party I had a sleep over and we video taped a show called “Friday Night Edited” which was a sketch show like Saturday Night Live. We did an opening and re-did out favorite sketches and made up our own. Soon I got to where I would edit videos for school projects. I didn’t think about it as a career until I was in college and I majored in Television production and worked on projects through out school.

COF: What was the inspiration behind tellofilms.com?

CM:

The website was conceived in 2007 when the co-found Nicole Valentine and I were having a deep dish pizza in Chicago and we were geeking out about the show Bad Girls. Once we finished the Nikki/Helen storyline we realized we really didn’t have much else to talk about. That was right around the time we also discovered afterellen.com and really related to their quest to lift up and celebrate lesbians in entertainment. We wanted to be the lesbian youtube. Since then the iPod and smart phones have come to the market making mobile viewing easier. We have now moved tellofilms.com to being smart phone friendly and turning it from an aggregator of lesbian videos to a lesbian distribution outlet. We really want to find a way to support and create lesbian content.

COF: Besides "Who Knows Her Better?" are there any other projects that coming up for Tello?

CM:

Oh yes! We are in pre-production on 2 more projects. The one I’m producing is called “I Hate Tommy Finch” with Nicole Pacent (Anyone But Me) and Shannan Leigh Reeve (Cowgirl Up and Diary of a Black Widow). I’m really excited about this project because we are doing this dual storytelling device. We are doing the production as a play in front of an audience so the actors are able to get this great interaction with the audience (if you are in Chicago the play dates will be in October- look for more information on tellofilms.com facebook page). One performance we are going to bring in a small audience of friends and then tape it. This way we will be able to move the camera – call cut- or ask them to re-do a scene like in webseries production. We are doing this because we are going to then post the project as a webseries on tello. At another of the performances we are going to just set the camera up in the back and have a single, establishing shot we can use for editing purposes. We are bring the oldest storytelling distribution (the play) and the newest storytelling distribution (the webseries) and meshing them together. We are super excited and are partnering with a great producing duo in Chicago called King is a Fink to help us. This is another instance where we are saying “I think this will work but I’m not 100% sure but let’s give it a try!” “I Hate Tommy Finch” is an original script that follows the friendship and relationship of two women from the age of 8 to 35. Nicole and Shannan have been so receptive to our crazy idea and as artists are really excited about this as well.

Nicole is working with Nancylee Myatt and Paige Bernhardt on another project that is a comedy/improv based project. I don’t want to say anymore because Nicole is producing that but it will be shot this year and posted at the end of the year.

COF: What has been the biggest challenge you have faced in the industry? Biggest reward?

CM:

Biggest challenge has been mostly technology- and by that I mean keeping up with technology. We started the site before the smart phones and iPads so keeping up with technology is really important so that we remain relevant. I don’t really consider us in the industry- I think we dance in the periphery really.

Biggest reward: Here’s the coolest thing about the times we are in with technology. In the past if you wanted to create or had an idea there was only so far you could go. The current way the entertainment industry works is there are tons of people who tell you “no”. Using the new technology Nicole and I are able to create our own distribution channel where we can tell people yes. We can say yes and figure out how to do it. That’s the coolest thing. The second reward goes along with the first and that is we have been so fortunate to work with awesome people who just want to create. Nancylee Myatt, Bridget McManus and amazing actors who are willing to work on our scrappy fun projects.

COF: Tello films and MyHardt Productions recently aired a webseries called "Cowgirl Up", for those who have not seen it, can you tell them what it's about?

CM:

This is an all-female Western comedy. It has some amazing women- funny, talented and very attractive. It takes place at a dude ranch for women only and it puts two teams against one another to win best all-round cowgirl. The girls have to shoot targets, go on a scavenger hunt, rope, ride and spell- all for points. There is also a budding romance and the threat from the Natives that live on the land. It’s just a really fun modern day all –female western.

COF: You have gotten to interview several celebrities through Tello, can you tell the readers what your favorite interview has been?

CM:

Oh there are so many. The most memorable was one of our first. Guinevere Turner was in the bathroom at a bar. We couldn’t get an interview with her until then and the light was bad and the music was loud and the only place we could do the interview and hear her was in the bathroom. So the owner let us use it and we shut down the woman’s restroom for like 20 min. It was a super fun interview. After that we always carry a light with us to be sure we have enough light.

I think my favorite though is Amy Ray and Brandi Carlile. Those two were on the same night. I was allowed to get their whole concert on camera (it’s posted on tellofilms.com) and then I was only scheduled for the Amy interview but Brandi was kind enough to do an interview as well. Both are really fun and it was an amazing night.

COF: As you are aware our site is about calling out the posers that continuously affect the lives of celebrities and their fans, what would you say to the posers if there turn out to be one about you? Would you feel flattered or creeped out?

CM:

Gosh that’s a good question. I think I would feel more sorry for the person who is a poser. I am living a life that I love and so I think people who are happy and taking full advantage of life don’t have time to be a poser they are too busy loving who they are. So I think people who are posers and affect the lives of celebrities and their fans must live a super pathetic life. I would think anyone who went after me could also most likely choose someone better or more famous but at the end of the day but I wouldn’t have time to waste on worry about other people and what they do. I just try to focus on what I’m doing and the positive, creative people around me what are trying to get more stories by and about lesbians on tello and trying to let as many people as I can know about tellofilms.com and what we are doing.

COF: More mainstream television is focusing on the lesbian and gay community by making having their main stars either take place in a homosexual relationship or be an out title character, what do you think this means for the future of lesbian/ gay entertainment and for the community all together?

CM:

I think overall it is awesome! People will continue to have characters that are lesbians or lesbian storylines as long as they keep getting ratings or selling tickets. I still think we have a long was to go as a community in the entertainment arena. I’d like to get to a place where out actresses can be cast in straight roles. We are getting close. Portia de Rossi and Amber Heard are doing a great job of helping us get there. It doesn’t seem that the gay network on cable is really doing well right now- I’m not checking ratings or anything but it doesn’t seem to be really doing a great job in creating projects for the community. I’d love to show people that there is a market for lesbian entertainment.

COF: For those who haven't seen "Diary of a Black Widow" can you tell the readers what it's about?

CM:

This is a horror webseries that follows a serial killer as the goes through her “victim”. Things get complicated when she decides to stop- but someone has other ideas.

COF: What actress(es) would you love to work with one day?

CM:

In my bio on the tello site I mention Katee Sachkoff and that is true- I’d love to work with her but there are so many. I could go on and on with a wish list but I’ve found the best folks to work with are people who just love to create. On Cowgirl Up we were luck to work with Maribeth Monroe who is also on the Comedy Central show “Workaholics” and she is just amazing. I’m trying to figure out how to work with her again. She is super funny, talented and just an all around lovely person. We are lucky in Chicago because we have a great community of improvisers and people who just want to work on projects.

COF: With the exception of the Tello Produced web series, what other types of shows are offered on the site?

CM:

Right now we have some independent producers whose shows are posted like “Shock and Akward” and “Webseries the Webseries”. If a producer wants to show their project on our open site they are able to- they just need to get a hold of us and ask. Most of our projects are going to be tello produced along with another producer like we did with Nancylee Myatt and Bridget McManus. We like joint projects.

COF: Who has been the most influential person in your life and why?

CM:

I would have to say my parents. They always encouraged me and reinforced the idea that I could do anything I set my mind to do. I’ve never really been afraid to try something and fail and I think that’s because they were so supportive. When I was a kid and we went on road trips to relatives they would play these motivational tapes. I grew up listening to Wayne Dwyer, Nightengale Conant people and Leo Buscallia. I think these tapes and the positive messages I got as a kid has stuck with me. This was all brought to my by my parents.

Interview with Director Becky Smith from "16 to Life"

CoF: What was the inspiration behind 16 to Life?

BS: I wanted to tell a story that focused on a teenage girl in a small town who loves where she grew up - but also wants to move out into the world. I also wanted to explore romantic love and sexual attraction - and how confusing, wonderful, awkward, and unwise those emotions can be.

CoF: Rumor is that 16 to Life wasn't the original name of the film, what was it and why the change?

BS: The film was originally called "Duck Farm No. 13" - but my teenage test audiences universally hated the title. They thought the film was about a farm.

CoF: How did you go about making the decisions for who would play what character?

BS: I cast the film in Los Angeles with Mormon Boling Casting. I signed a contract with the Screen Actors Guild, and cast lead actors who had television and feature experience - and felt right for the roles. I cast smaller parts and extras in the midwest, where we shot the film.

CoF: Are there any other projects that you're working on?

BS: I'm currently developing two new screenplays - and a web series. The first screenplay "Brooke & Anabel" is about a sign language interpreter who is assigned to teach a young illegal immigrant - in a midwestern town where illegal immigrants are a majority of the laborers. My other feature "Gleezers" is about a young musician who desperately needs money, and agrees to direct an original musical starring ten elderly Jewish people who survived the camps. Think "Glee" mixed with "Grumpy Old Men" - and you've got "Gleezers"!

CoF: What do you do when you're not writing/directing ect.?

BS: If I'm not writing or developing a project, I feel very guilty. So I try to make the creative process a part of every day. I also teach directing in the UCLA film school - and run the first year graduate directing program. For exercise, I run, swim and do "home-alone" yoga with Rodney Yee DVDs. I do pen and ink drawing as a kind of meditation. Shopping is my vice. I read a lot of fiction. Should watch more movies - but when I do - it's usually old movies.

CoF: What type of reactions has this film had from viewers?

BS: We've had a lot of very good feedback on the film. We were lucky enough to win "Best of Festival" and/or "Audience Choice" at nine festivals - plus some other awards. The reviews have been great - including a nice review in "Variety". I'm a bit pained that when we finally got on Rotten Tomatoes - out of the approximately 50 good reviews we got in newspapers, magazines and on-line - Rotten Tomatoes posted the one bad review we've gotten!

CoF: What was it like working with Mandy Musgrave?

BS: Mandy is a very gifted young actress. I feel very fortunate to have been able to cast her. I think her comic timing is flawless. She really understands my humor - and finds a way to nail every line, while holding on to the humanity and the pathos. I would love to work with her again - she's just terrific. Great attitude, sincere, no ego - a complete team player, beautiful and a lovely person.

CoF: Do you have any social networking sites that fans can talk to you on?

BS: We have a web site - a facebook fan page - and try to reply to every fan who contacts us.

CoF: Will Rothaar was recently in Battle: LA - have you seen it? If so, what was your opinion of the film?

BS: I'm looking forward to seeing Will in "Battle: LA" - he is another gifted actor with great nuance and great comic timing. I will report back on the movie!!!

CoF: What advice would you give to someone who wants to get involved in the film industry, whether behind the scenes or in front of the camera?

BS: Working in film and television is a competitive business - and you have to understand that going into it. I think personal qualities that are key to success in the business include a great work ethic, patience, persistence, a passion for story-telling, resourcefulness, and hard work. Everyone who succeeds in the business had their own path to success. And it's a precarious business, so you have to be in it for the right reasons - and for the long haul if you want to get pleasure from it. I've often heard the saying "Success in Hollywood is determined by how well you deal with disappointment" - and I think that's true.

CoF: You filmed on the Mississippi River, how was that?

BS: It was a great pleasure to film in a beautiful town (McGregor, Iowa) on the Mississippi river. The landscape was so stunning, we simply turned the camera on it and got great pictures. The people locally were very generous of their time, their resources and their good will. Every day of shooting was a pleasure. I remember finishing one night shoot at 6am - and walking down the little main street to my bed and breakfast. I was tired, cold, and exhilarated. I thought to myself, 'this is what you want most - and this is what you're doing - making feature films you care passionately about." And then I went to bed.

CoF: Any words for the fans?

BS: We have been gratified by the support people have shown "16 to Life" - the original investors who believed in the project, the people of McGregor, Iowa - and the many fans who have taken the time to see the film and to post on Facebook. I'm originally from Iowa - where we shot the film - and my family still lives there. You hear the saying "You can't go home again". I know that I could only go home again to make this film. And it has given back to me so much more than I could have imagined. I am thrilled if someone watches the film and feels that they've gained something from the time spent with it.

COF: Can you tell the readers a little about "You're Cordially Uninvited"?

JCP: "YCU" is a comedy/drama about two women, Rose and Lisa, who are about to get married. Then, things get a bit complicated and unravel at their engagement party.

COF: Can you tell readers a little about your character in the film?

JCP: I played Lisa. She is the one who is completely out of the closet and comfortable with her sexuality. It's hard for her to understand why Rose can't just come out to her parents and feeling accepted is something she struggles with throughout the film.

COF: What drew your interest or inspired you to take on this character and film?

JCP: I usually play the wacky best friend or funny sidekick, so this felt like the perfect opportunity to do something different. I also I think that the story is something a lot of people can relate to. I felt that the script was honest and lite hearted. Plus I wanted to make out with Gaby, ha!

COF: What do you think people will like/enjoy the most about the film?

JCP: I hope they love it all! I think they will enjoy everyones chemistry and the journey that Lisa and Rose go through together.

COF: Are there any other projects that you are working on?

JCP: Yes! You can see me on a few commercials and on the second season of Latino101 on SiTV. I just filmed a webseries called "Comedivas" which will be released on Valentines Day and have been working on a lot of different web videos. I also do stand-up about four nights a week in different venues around town!

COF: What has been the biggest challenge you have faced in the industry? Biggest reward?

JCP: Rejection can be tough and I definitely have brighter days then other. My biggest

challenge is taking it day by day and I am slowly learning to just love the journey. My biggest and greatest reward has been getting to work and hang with comics who I have looked up to for years.

JCP: It's great to see that its no longer a taboo subject. There are a lot of people who

aren't exposed to the gay community at all and I think television is a great way to educate them. I would love to see more gay and lesbian shows out there!

COF: Can you tell the readers a little about "You're Cordially Uninvited"?

FdR: It’s a great short film about Rose, played by Gabrielle Christian, who’s shocked to hear that her parents found out about her upcoming engagement party. She’s been telling them that she has had a boyfriend, Jeff, when it’s actually a girlfriend, Lisa. Together with Lisa she comes up with a plan to fool her parents… or at least she thinks so.

COF: Can you tell readers a little about the main characters in the film, and why you chose the actors used?

FdR: Rose comes from an upscale, traditional family that suffers from a total lack of communication. Lisa is openly gay and has a hard time accepting that Rose denies her sexuality to the outside world. She is excited to marry Rose, but is not about to start a marriage based upon a lie.

After finishing my script, I called Gaby, with whom I had become great friends during the filming of GIRLTRASH: All Night Long. I asked her to read the script and she felt an instant connection to Rose which was great because that was exactly the role I had in mind for her!

In every day life Gaby has a beautiful mix of a strong character, proudly standing behind her beliefs, combined with a genuine vulnerability that makes her so easy to love. Rose needed just those characteristics to come to life in an authentic and moving way.

As for Lisa, I needed someone with the world famous South American temperament! I needed a girl whose choices in life, in all meaning of the words, are based upon emotion, heart and instinct. I spent months casting in both San Francisco and LA, but funny enough I finally found the perfect Lisa with help of a good friend.

She suggested me to audition Jade Catta-Preta, this sexy, witty, Brazilian comedian. I invited Jade for call backs and as soon I put her up on stage with Gaby, their chemistry blew me away! Opposites attract as they say and these two girls are the living proof!

COF: What drew your interest or inspired you to the behind the camera aspects of filmmaking?

FdR: I’ve apparently been writing dialogues and actions scenes ever since I was ten years old! Writing, combined with visuals and music is what my life is about. I can read my morning paper, catch a weird news article and my mind instantly drifts off, creating an imaginary world with profound characters, moving storylines and unexpected twists. Then all I want to do is visualize it. I guess it’s second nature!

COF: What was your inspiration behind "YCU"?

FdR: I got inspired to write this script after hearing a story from a good friend who had been invited to a party where half of the guests had been informed that it was a lesbian wedding reception, while the other half thought they were attending a birthday party. One of the brides went through all that trouble to hide her sexuality from her family.

I thoroughly researching the topic and discovered that for many LGBT (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender) people, their fear of rejection turned out to be unrealistic. Many of their friends and family responded in a positive, respectful way. That’s exactly what I’m trying to pass on as a message: Don’t underestimate your family, they may just love you for who you are.

COF: Are there any other projects that you are working on?

FdR: You’re Cordially Uninvited is in post-production now, so most of my time goes into editing, sound design, etc. Besides that, I’m writing a feature length script, inspired by a shocking news article that I read two years ago and that I’m turning into a thriller. I’m trying to finish a treatment within the coming months that I will try to produce afterwards.

COF: What has been the biggest challenge you have faced in the industry? Biggest reward?

FdR: You need to be persistent if you want to make it in the industry. Never loose hope, be genuine and stay true to your beliefs. I had to endure a lot in the first six years of working for Dutch national TV but was finally rewarded with a company that believed in me.

They flew me all around the world to work on their shows and by doing so, helped me find my passion for directing, which eventually led to my move to the US. I think my biggest reward so far is POWER UP believing in me and allowing me to work as a 2^nd AD on their movie GIRLTRASH: All Night Long! That experience has taught me so much and I loved every minute of it!

FdR: I’m from The Netherlands, the first country in the world to legalize gay marriage. Therefore, I encourage this development so that maybe one day, the American LGBT community will experience that same sense of acceptance in every day life.

FdR: The only ‘tradition’ I can come up with is that I listen to soundtracks that fit the scene that I’m writing. It triggers my fantasy and helps me find the right emotion.

There’s a scene in which Rose has an argument with Lisa and all I said to the girls was that they knew better than me what their characters were feeling at that specific moment in the script. We shot the scene in very few takes and every single one of them is intense with true emotions that came from their hearts. Gaby is a real joy to work with!

COF: What is the biggest difference between working on "YCU" and "Girltrash: All Night Long"?

FdR: The biggest difference is that I was responsible for every single aspect of YCU but not of GIRLTRASH. I had to write a script, find the perfect actors and locations, gather a crew and arrange lodging, craft services and transportation. And I shouldn’t forget: I had to gather –and still am- my own funding! On GIRLTRASH I had to make sure things went smooth on set, but I didn’t have to worry about pre- and post-production.

COF: Besides the one in Seattle what other film festivals are you either doing or hoping to take part in?

FdR: If I’ll finish in time, I’ll submit it to as many festivals as possible this year! Toronto, Cannes, Sundance (next year), Mills Valley, Outfest, Boston LGBT and many more.

COF: Any final words for the fans/readers?

COF: Can you tell us a little about "You're Cordially Uninvited" and your character?

GC: Rose is a young woman, struggling to come out to her parents about her engagement to another woman, Lisa. I play Rose!


COF: What do you think people are going to like the most about this film

GC: Most importantly, I believe the film sheds light on the issue of gay marriage, on both social and intimate levels. In Rose's case, however, it is in allowing her "seemingly" conservative parents to know her true self, whether they accept it or not. Either way, Rose is in love with and marrying another woman, and it is ultimately up to her to be honest to herself and others.



COF: What drew your interest or inspired you to take on this character and film?

GC: Last Spring of 2010, I worked with Fontessa De Ridder (our director) on Girltrash (the movie). Fontessa was our 2nd Assistant Director on set, and I was really fond of her work ethic, as well as the person she is. We became great friends over the shoot, and over the Summer she asked me to take a look at the YCU script. I read it and I loved it. Rose especially stood out to me, considering I was compelled to her coming out process as an adult. As an actress, I had never had the opportunity to explore this aspect of the coming out process, and this is what sparked my desire to do it. 



COF: Can you please explain to the readers, what the 'perks' are for
donating to this film?


GC: Well, on our IndieGoGo fundraising website, we are trying to raise money for some of the cost of the film. It is very expensive to even shoot a short film these days, you wouldn't believe it! However, some of the "perks" I have offered to do are make phone calls, or send signed pictures to the donators who would like them- kinda an incentive to reach out to any fan that may want to help support our film in any other way. 



COF: What has been the MOST challenging scene you have filmed in your career?


GC: My first TV series Young Americans (on the WB) was definitely a challenge. I was only 15 years old, had never been on professional film before, and was extremely nervous. My first scene was especially the hardest, considering Kate Bosworth played my big sister, and I was already such a fan of her work!


COF: Besides "GirlTrash:ANL", "House", and of course "YCU",  are there
any other projects that you are working on?


GC: I'm currently in the works of a documentary based on the harsh realities of human trafficking. I am involved with a non-profit called FAIR Fund that helps survivors tell their stories, and we hope to shed light on our girls (and boys) with this film. 


COF: What has been the biggest challenge you have faced in the
entertainment industry? Biggest reward?


GC: The down time between work definitely sucks, in my opinion. I love being busy, and it sucks when you can't act (professionally) all the time, especially in this economy where not as many work opportunities are available. It's also very competitive when you do have an audition, and I am not too great a fan of that process either. I really hate competing with women who have the same dreams I do, it's just not right. However, when you DO get the job, especially one that delivers a good message, all that struggle makes it worth it. 




COF: For those who haven't read your interview with our friends at
SouthOfNowhereOnline.com can you tell readers whether or not you have
a social networking site of any type?

GC: I currently do not have any type of social networking site whatsoever. I did have a myspace account a few years ago, and got off of facebook about a year ago, but am only really involved with my personal website for now: www.gabriellechristian.com. 




COF: You have been an inspiration to many people through the
characters you have portrayed, how does it feel knowing you have
inspired so many people?

GC: Wow, that's very humbling. Thank you. I am really grateful to have played such characters, and only hope to be a positive role model to young people. As an audience member myself, I learn so much from my favorite actors on screen. 



COF: As you are aware our site is about calling out the posers that
continuously affect the lives of celebrities and their fans , what is
your opinion on poser sites- more specifically the ones who pose as
you?

GC: Hey, I think fan pages rock! However, sometimes it isn't fair for people to take over someone's identity, especially if they are putting negative gossip out there. Please don't do that!




COF: More mainstream television is focusing on the lesbian and gay
community by making having their main stars either take place in a
homosexual relationship or be an out title character, what do you
think this means for the future of lesbian/ gay entertainment and for
the community all together?

GC: I think it's all wonderful, as long as they are portraying our community in a positive light. 



COF: What do you do (hobbies, activities, ect.) when you aren't filming?

GC: I'm totally obsessed with Krav Maga Martial Arts. I have been training in this Israeli Mixed Martial Arts form for almost two years now and absolutely love what it has done for my mind/body/soul. My husband and I are also very outdoorsy, hiking, backpacking, camping, rock climbing, etc. Anything we can do outdoors with our dog is always a good thing.  



COF: What was your experience like when filming "House"?

GC: Loved it. Everyone was so nice, including the show's main stars, but Jennifer Grey (my mom) was really the treat. I have been a fan of Jennifer's since her Dirty Dancing days, and it was so great to work on screen with an inspiration. My character also rocked, I loved that she spoke her mind and didn't take crap from anyone. I also really loved working with those little babies. So cute. 


COF: Would you ever want to get behind the camera for a movie or
television series?

GC: I'd love to produce or direct someday, it really has to be the right script and message though. 




COF: What actor or actress would you love to work with one day?

GC: Natalie Portman is definitely up there these days. Black Swan was incredible. I'd also love to work with Cate Blanchett, Kate Winslet, Hilary Swank and Meryl Streep. How can these women play such entirely different kinds of roles? It's a magnificent mystery. 


COF: Do you have any traditions or a certain process you go through
when preparing for a role?

GC: I always try and put myself entirely into someone else's shoes, and also try and use things from my own life that can help me get there.

And Girltrash is especially cool because we have been working on the webseries and film since 2007. Basically, I love going back to a certain character I've fallen in love with. It'd be so nice if we could make YCU into a feature length someday. Hint hint Fontessa! :)

COF: Can you tell us a little about "Cryptic" and your character Mia?
BV: Cryptic is an Independent film I did about a girl named Jessie Graver who finds an old cell phone that allows her to communicate with her younger self, and as a result, gives her the ability to alter the future. I play Mia, Jessie’s best friend. As the future shifts, so do the characters. So it was a really fun challenge to alter Mia accordingly, while still maintaining her core identity.

COF: "Freakin' Zombies, Man!" is a short film starring David Gallagher ("Boogeyman 2" "7th Heaven"), can you tell us about the film and your character?
BV: I was actually brought onto the project by my friend Jamie, who plays the lead female role. It was one of my favorite experiences so far. Everyone who worked on it was so awesome, and we had so much fun making it, which I think you can tell when you watch it.
The film is about a kid, Stan, going through typical adolescent stuff, only he also has to deal with the constant presence of zombies. On this particular day in which the movie takes place, he’s had enough. He decides to stand up to the bully, fight the zombies and go after the girl of his dreams. I play that girl’s best friend, and I also, by the end of the film, develop an interest in Stan’s best friend Kevin.

COF: Are you working on any new projects?
BV: I just recently finished a short called “Hearts on the Knee” with Draco Equus Productions. It’s a really beautiful story about a kid who sort of apathetically goes about his life, until one day the absence of a girl he always passes in the parking lot - the girl with hearts on her knees - sparks something in him and evokes a quest to figure out who the mysterious girl is. I play the mysterious girl :)

COF: Can you tell us a little about the first job you ever got while in La La Land?
BV: Ah wow. I believe it was a commercial for a company called Tele2. I got to film it in Sweden, so that was completely amazing, especially for my first professional experience.

COF: What have you been up to while not auditioning or working?
BV: I work at a comic book studio called Aspen Comics. I love it. It’s the best job I could have aside from Acting, and as a fan of comics, it helps that the books are great! I also spend a lot of time with friends, doing yoga, hiking, and I try to go to acting class as much as I can.

COF: If you could pick any actress and actor to work with- who would you choose and why?
BV: Man oh man... good question. There are so many.
The actress is easy - Meryl Streep. If life should every deem me worthy, that would be a dream come true.
For actor... truthfully, my immediate response, I’d probably want to work with my best friend Carter (Jenkins). We study with the same coach, so we use the same process, which I think would be a cool experience, and I also just think it would be fun to work with one of my best friends.

COF: What was your experience like at ComicCon this year?
BV: It was great! I got sick at the end, that was kind of a bummer, but I love Comic Con. It’s definitely up there with Halloween and Christmas. So, it’s always a great experience.

COF: What advice would you give to someone wanting to move out to LA to pursue a career in performing?

BV: Patients and determination. You have to be proactive. Sometimes it can be discouraging, but if you surround yourself with good people, and you stay focused, you can make it happen!

COF: Your character from South of Nowhere has made quite a number of appearances in the SoN fanfiction (southofnohwereonline.com), have you read any of the FF? If so, what is your opinion of the differences between "Carmen" in the series compared to the FF?

BV: I actually haven’t read any, but I would be interested to! I think it would be really cool to see the different perspectives/takes on Carmen.

COF: What/ who is your biggest inspiration in life and why?
BV: My family, definitely. And also, everyone. Haha I realize how generic that sounds. But I mean, ok I’m going to attempt to articulate this: I’m 23, my career is basically my life right now. That being said, I’ve gotten to play some great roles... and I hope to have many more in the future... and what I think about most, even when I’m not working, is that there are people who actually live lives like those I pretend to live. While I’ve certainly faced my own struggles and successes, it’s the people whose stories I get to tell that are really my biggest inspiration. The fact that someone watching is going to be able to identify with my character; I want to tell that story for them. I want to do it justice.

COF: Do you belong to any social networking sites, and do you accept fans on any of them?
BV: I do! I am admittedly very neglectful of both my public and my private Facebook, but I have them. I’ve been cheating on Facebook with Twitter, which I actively use (maybe a little too frequently actually) and as long as the questions aren’t too invasive, I will absolutely tweet back.

COF: Many teens today struggle with identity and sexuality. Did you ever wonder about it ? What advice would you give to those teens?
BV: I did struggle with my identity. I was a bit of a “follower” in my middle school years, but as I went through high school I made a really great group of friends and became much more independent. It took until my 20s though to really start to figure it out. I still struggle a little from time to time. That’s ok though. It’s good to struggle I think... It means you’re growing.
I wouldn’t say I really struggled in regard to my sexuality, but I definitely thought about it. I have a very supportive family and very accepting friends. So when I did seriously think about it, I decided that, for myself, I didn’t need to define it. I’ll just love whoever I love. Thus far in my life though I’ve really only been attracted to guys, so I don’t know what it would be like if I someday fell for a girl. I also am well aware that when dealing with sexuality, it’s not at all that simple for most teenagers.
The best advice I can give is just to figure out what makes you happy, be kind, and always be proud of who you are. The people who love you, will love you no matter what.

Valery Ortiz (Madison from South of Nowhere) had the following questions for you:
Aw Hi Valery!

COF: What was your favorite episode of SON?
BV: I’d have to say the episode that starts with Carmen finding Aiden and Kayla doing yoga together. It was one of the few occasions where Carmen really felt like part of the group. And that opening scene was just so much fun to film :)

COF: If you could switch and be a different character on the show (SON), what would it be? Why?
BV: I wouldn’t! I think all of the characters are amazing, but I really enjoyed playing Carmen. Although I am a closet singer, so Ashley may have been fun.

COF: If a TV show was produced about your life, right now, what would it be called?
BV: Hahaha uhhh Growing Up is a Bitch.

COF: What kind of music are you listening to? - Fan (Twitter)
BV: HoneyChild, HoneyChild, HoneyChild. I love them. I honestly believe they’re the kind of band that will leave such an impression, my kids will be listening to them in 20yrs. I’ve mostly been supporting friends right now. I just went to a show at the Roxy to see the band Scarlet Grey, who are awesome and just the nicest guys. And my friend Matt is in a band called It Boys, they played the Roxy with SG, and are on tour right now. Shameless friend promotion! But I’m fortunate enough to have talented friends :) You guys should check them out. They’re all totally different, and all great in their own way.

COF: Do you have a favorite television series or film? - Fan (Twitter)
BV: I love the show How I Met Your Mother. My friends and I all used to get together after acting class every week and watch it together. So in addition to being a totally awesome show, I have some very fond memories attached to it.
My favorite movie is Dead Poets Society, and I also really loved Away We Go. Oh man! And The Land Before time too. Those are probably my top three.

COF: What made you accept the role of Carmen in SON?- Fan (Twitter)
BV: How could I not? She was such an amazing character to play, there was so much to her. Not to mention I was already friends with Chris Hunter prior to working on the show, and Kyle Searles (who I actually ran into at my audition). So the prospect of getting to work with my friends was also a big plus. Mostly though, I loved that the characters on the show were all so complex. You know, the “bad guys” had good hearts, and the “good guys” screwed up and did mean things sometimes. They were all so, human. Carmen was the kind of character every actor hopes they get to play at least once, and I was lucky enough to get to play her.

COF: Why did you choose UCLA for school? - Fan (Facebook)
BV: I came from a high school with a really great academic program, and after taking classes at a few different schools in the Los Angeles area, UCLA felt like the best fit. The campus doesn’t hurt either.

COF: (FINAL QUESTION) Any final words for your fans?
BV: Thank you. Thank you, thank you, thank you. I feel so fortunate to have been apart of the SON family. You are all so amazing, and I hope that in my future work I continue to meet people who inspire me, and motivate me to do what I do like the fans of SON have. COF: Can you tell us a little about your guest appearance on "Without a Trace"?
QP: Without a trace was fun. It was a one day spot. I got to work with amazingly
talented and well respected people. Jeannot szwarz who directed jaws 2 among many
other projects. I was in a brief scene with Roselyn Sanchez and Marianne Jean Baptiste. It was a great experience.

COF: Can you tell us about your experience on the set of "Friday After Next"?
QP: Wow Friday was my first official job in the industry as an adult. I auditioned with what seemed like hundreds of other people for one brief scene. I was ecstatic upon getting the offer. It was surreal I mean I grew up listening to NWA and Ice Cube  now I was going to be in a scene with the hip hop and entertainment legend along with  one of the funniest people in the world in my opinion Mike Epps. Mike was cool as  the other side of the pillow. He allowed us to kick it in his trailer. The filming of the  scene was fast paced and fun. And getting to watch Mike improv was priceless. That was  the best first experience I could ask for. I'm still good friends with Allen Maldonado it was  both of our first official sag jobs. Hollywood is a small place.

COF: Are you working on any new projects?
QP: Im developing a couple of scripts, I don't want to tip my hand but I will keep everyone posted.
I have had a a myriad of seemingly random things that I witness or that happen to me. So the only real challenge is picking which  story to tell first. I will definitely keep those who pay attention to my career posted.

COF: Can you tell us a little about the first job you ever got while in La La Land?
QP: Well I have lived in Los Angeles for most of my life, my first official job was an Exxon gas commercial when I was a baby. As I was a toddler I dont remember much. My first job as an adult was Friday After Next, I hope that I will get to work with them again. Working in an environment like that makes it easy to be creative and come up with special moments on film.

COF: What have you been up to while not auditioning or working?
QP: Well I work at a Middle School with the Physical Education department, and I coach basketball about one to two seasons out of the year. So that stuff keeps me busy but I still find time to read, and play a lil Xbox from time to time.

COF: If you could pick any actress and actor to work with- who would you choose and why?
QP: Well I have been blessed already to work with some really amazing actors and actresses just by chance. But if I were able to choose...
I would say Don Cheadle would be my first choice, I not only respect his immense talent and ability to affect and move an audience but the  way he has crafted a truly diverse career and has owned every character that I have seen him play. He has always retained an affable yet higly respectable demeanor.

And as for actresses...
I was actually disappointed I didn't get more scenes with some of the amazing actresses we had on SoN, I was blown away multiple times while watching filming. But if I could choose someone who I havent met, It would be Jurnee Smollet. Her performance in "Great Debaters" was heart wrenching. There are very few times I can remember watching someone and being truly emotionally affected by a performance. Hers was one of few.

COF: What was your experience like working on "Criminal Minds"?
QP: Interesting, and enlightening. Again I was able to work with experienced actors, Its a treat to see people like Joe Mantegna or Erika Alexander who I grew up watching on Living Single, in their element and focussed. The Director Rob Hardy is a no nonsense, guy that gets the job done. I learned alot from him as well. It was a great experience. Oh and I also got to ask Shemar Moore about  his incident with DJ Quik. Funny story.

COF: What advice would you give to someone wanting to move out to LA to pursue a career in performing?
QP: I would tell them to ask themselves what it is they really want. In today's day and age it isnt imperative to move anywhere.
I think if you are an actor trying to move to LA that isnt enough. You have to have at least two other skills, writing, editing cinematography. If you don't have these skills combine with the other talented people in your area make your own well thought out projects. Talent and creatvity get rewarded, but that reward may not be monetary at first. You must have passion patience and persevereance.

COF: Do you still keep in contact with any of your former cast members?
QP: I still have most of my castmates info. I see Danso at auditions now and then we are still real cool. I still see Gabby periodically, and its been a while since ive seen Mandy and Valery but we correpsond in other ways so I don't feel too out of touch. Austen emails me from time to time and ive been meaning to get up with Matt as well.

COF: What/ who is your biggest inspiration in life and why?
QP: My parents first and foremost but honestly I learn from everyone I have come in contact with. My Best friends my family,  I believe everyone is in our life for a reason so I am a tapestry of lessons from all who I have met. and I thank all of you!

COF: Do you belong to any social networking sites, and do you accept fans on any of them?
QP: Twitter, Im on Facebook but I try to keep it small, Id rather be hit up on Twitter. Unbantheqman

Valery Ortiz (Madison from South of Nowhere) had the following question for you:

COF: What was your favorite episode of SON?
QP: When Madison got kicked off the cheerleading squad. Ha! Just kidding, Its hard to choose, either the first episode or the last episode. The first one because I loved the dynamic between Danso, Austen and my character. Three young black guys and they all had different perspectives looking back on it, it was a small dose of The Boondocks Austen's character was Huey Freeman, my character was Riley, and Danso's character was like the neighbor Tom. Hillarious. I felt that should have been explored more but...ah well.  The last episode because my character finally changed and it was just a pleasure to have him "grow up" a little so to speak. Plus that was I think the first time I had a scene with Gabby, crazy after 3 years ha!

COF: If you could switch and be a different character on the show (SON), what would it be? Why?
QP: I truly believe I could have played any of the male roles on there with the exception of Matt's character, he had taking his shirt off down to a science. I have facets of Clay Sean and Boz. I would have enjoyed any of them but ultimately I am glad for Boz it was a fun part to play, Whenever I was on set you knew something was going to happen. I was the X factor.

COF: If a TV show was produced about your life, right now, what would it be called?
QP: Funnier than fiction. I find myself in situations sometimes and ask myself how in the world am I right here right now? Astounding. But Ive had an exciting ride and it is just getting started!

FAN QUESTIONS

COF: What kind of music are you listening to? - Fan (Twitter)
QP: Im a hip hop head, a purist if you will. I love 90s hip hop, lots of west coast, some reggae and dancehall. Im not big on alot of the new artists, I do like Janelle Monae, truly progressive stuff. and Big Boi from OutKast's new album Sir Lucious Left foot. I loved the time when hip hop was still free and diverse, It feels fettered now(mainstream that is)

COF: Do you have a favorite television series or film? - Fan (Twitter)
QP: Matrix because it is as relavent now as when it came out. I also love Requiem for a Dream, Fight Club, and Coming to America

COF: What made you accept the role of BOZ in SON?- Fan (Facebook)
QP: Well It was an audition so I try to book everything I audition for. But it presented a unique opportunity to channel situations I had been in and people I had known in to art and positivity. I was ecstatic to have the opportunity, I hope I was able to bring some depth to him. It was just  a tremendous opportunity from the Production people to the actors and crew, to me it was family and I wouldnt trade those years for anything.

COF: How does it feel knowing you were a part of an amazing show such as SON? - Fan (Twitter)
QP: Just the fact that people still remember and were affected by it it really want you aim for as an actor. A job is one thing, but how many times can you really say you worked on something impactful that will get seen the world over. I have had people from South America, to the Phillipines contact me because of South so it was truly an honor that I hope I did justice. I would love for some of us South people to get together and collab on something, I think it would be fun!

COF: (FINAL QUESTION) Any final words for your fans?
QP: I have fans?! where? Ha, Just kidding. For those that pay attention to my career THANK YOU I cant write it big enough. My dream is just to affect people through art and just someone telling me they enjoyed my performance means more to me than any check. COF: Marisa, you have a remarkable list of projects under your belt- can you tell us a bit about your experience on the popular 90s show "Clarissa Explains It All"?
ML: Thank you so much!!! "Clarissa" was actually the 1st show I ever did. I was so thrilled to guest star on it. I was super young and a huge fan of the show and Melissa Joan Hart. She was so incredibly sweet. She was older than me and could tell I was really nervous, so we hung out in the dressing room for a bit just chatting like typical girls, and then all of a sudden wasn't so nervous anymore :) It was a great experience!

COF: You play Lacey in the popular CWKids show "Kamen Rider", can you tell us about your character and the show its self?
ML: "Kamen Rider" is a really great kids show made for mostly teenage boys. There are only 2 female leads in the whole show which are myself, and the character Mya. My character was definitely the comic relief. I love comedy, and I usually play more dramatic characters, so it was a nice change.

COF: Can you tell us a little about your appearances on "90210" and "Greek"?
ML: I guest starred on "Greek" first. I appeared in 3 seasons of that show. I absolutely love "Greek". The writing is excellent and the diverse cast was amazing to work with. Just a really great bunch of people on that show… in front of & behind the camera.
"90210" was very quick for me. I only guest starred in 2 episodes, but it was also a lot of fun. I was already friends with Jessica Lowndes because we had played best friends on "Greek", I had worked with Jessica Stroup a few years prior on a movie, and I knew Shenae Grimes from us both working on "The N"…she was on "Degrassi", and I was on "South of Nowhere" at the same time.
So, after already knowing half the cast I felt very comfortable working on that set, and had a fabulous time.

COF: What is Private HighMusical, a project that also stars everyone's favorite principal Dennis Haskins aka Mr. Belding?
ML: "Private High" was a project created by my good friend Taryn Southern. We were hoping for it to be picked up as a TV series, but unfortunately it didn't get that far, but i was able to work with my best friend Lauren Mayhew, and my best gay Percy Rusty, so I think by far it was one of the most enjoyable projects I've ever done.

COF: Are you working on any new projects?
ML: Yes, I have 2 films that I am currently working on. Unfortunately, I can't give anymore information on them, but as soon as I can you guys will be the very 1st to know!!!!

COF: What was the experience like working on the following series: "Charmed", "One on One", and "American Dreams"?
ML: "Charmed" was awesome cause I was a fan of the show. Unfortunately, I didn't get to play a witch or anything cool like that, so that was a bummer. "One on One" was great because Tim Meadows had me laughing the entire time on set. He is absolutely hilarious. And "American Dreams" was one of my most favorite projects because it took place in the 60's and they completely changed my look so I could fit in with the era. At the time I had hot pink hair, so they put a black wig on me, false lashes, and orange lipstick. It was awesome! At the end of the day I took it all off, stepped out of my trailer, and no one recognized me. I was standing right next to the rest of the cast and they kept asking around if anyone had seen Marisa…lol. It was the best!

COF: What is "Left in Darkness" about?
ML: "Left in Darkness" is a horror film. I can't tell u much else cause I never saw it…lol.

COF: Can you tell us a little about the first job you ever got while in La La Land?
ML: The 1st job I had in LA was a guest spot on "Saved by the Bell: The new Class". It was a great gig, but by that time there was no Zach Morris, so I was a bit disappointed, but there was Mr. Belding :) Dennis actually remembered me from "Saved By the Bell" when we worked together on "Private High". I was quite impressed!

COF: What have you been up to while not auditioning or working?
ML: Right now I am mostly focused on my music. I am a songwriter and musician way more than an actor. I went to school for music. It's my biggest passion.

COF: If you could pick any actress, singer, and actor to work with- who would you choose and why?
ML: Pat Benatar or Tina Turner. They are 2 of the 1st women of Rock. They have influenced my career choices more than anyone can imagine. I would die to work with or even just meet either of them.

COF: If you weren't film/television or music industry what would you be doing?
ML: I'd probably be a lawyer. My brother is one, and it seems quite easy….Ha, I'm only kidding. Really though, I love to argue. I'm very good at it.

COF: Your song "Unbelievable" can be heard on the popular daytime soaps "Guiding Light" and "General Hospital", what is your inspiration when writing songs?
ML: That song in particular was about a boyfriend at the time. Most of my songs are about people or relationships.

COF: What advice would you give to someone wanting to move out to LA to pursue a career in performing?
ML: LOL….don't do it! Once again kidding. This industry is extremely difficult. You have to be 100% positive that this is something u want to do. You have to have thick skin. You have to not be afraid of the word NO 'cause you're gonna hear it a lot. And above all else you must be patient and fearless.

COF: Fans can actually purchase some of your music from iTunes, will you be adding your new single to the list?
ML: I will be releasing an entirely new album, and the new song will be included. It's gonna be killer! I think all of you are gonna love it! At least I hope ;)

COF: What will the title to your new single be?
ML: My newest single is called "So Damn Good". The one to follow is titled "Blood".

COF: If you ever had to make a choice, would it be music or film?
ML: Music for sure. It's my own creation since I write all my songs. Film is written by someone else. You are playing a character that was thought up in someone else's head. Film and TV are a lot of fun, but I do love creating more.

COF: Will fans see "Thats So Gayven" revive at all?
ML: Haha…I'm sure Percy would say YES! I love "That's So Gayven". It takes no effort at all, and it's completely pointless. So hopefully we'll continue with it.

COF: What has been your favorite item you have received from a fan? Creepiest?
ML: Favorite item…an awesome bracelet. Creepiest…a guy sent me a picture of himself with my head on another girl's body, and he had us making out…so gross!

Interview with Danso Gordon

COF: Tell us a little bit about your new film "The Binds That Tie Us".
DG: It’s about physical abuse in relationships...domestic violence. A friend of mine shot the trailer and is now shopping around for funding.

COF: You can be seen acting along side former co-star Matt Cohen in the film "Dark House", can you tell us a bit about this film and your character?
DG: Yeah, working with Matt again was a lot of fun. It was like going to a new school and not being the only new guy, lol. I didn't know he was gonna be in the film until the night before the table read and I just happened to look at the cast list...good times. The film is about a group of actors that are hired to work in a haunted house...then people start dying. I’m glad the black guy didn't die first ;)

COF: Can you tell us a little about your 2008 film "Blu_Scrn"?
DG: Yeah, it’s a short film that a buddy of mine wrote & directed about the power of technology. I played a cop.

COF: From 1998 - 2000 you starred in "Hang Time", what was that experience like?
DG: The BEST experience of my life, period. Hands down! Sometimes I sit back and smile at how much fun we had...we worked our asses off but we played just as hard. I’m surprised we even got paid! It was like summer camp on set...I have tons of love for everyone on that set, from the janitors to the creator. Great experience that I’m very grateful to have had.

COF: Are you working on any new projects?
DG: I’ve been working on getting my own projects off the ground as far as directing & writing. One of my dreams would be to have the opportunity to direct/produce independent features for a living...that would be awesome.

COF: You starred in the popular "ZOOG Disney" show "In A Heartbeat" a tv series about high school students that also serve as EMTs, can you tell us about your experience filming this series, the cast, and your favorite memory from set?
DG: Yeah, we shot back in my hometown of Toronto. That was a surreal feeling to be able to go back home and film a series...awesome feeling and experience. Great cast, loved everybody...I’ve been blessed that every series I’ve worked on the cast was amazing. It was fun playing an EMT because at the time I was a Biology major at UCLA so I felt really qualified to play the role. My best memory on set? Besides cracking jokes and forgetting our lines, lol....hmmmm good question, I guess it was shooting the pilot episode. There was this one scene I had where I see this young kid in a gurney and everything goes in slow motion...I believe they played Maxwell’s “this woman’s work” behind it. They shot the sequence extremely well.

COF: Can you tell us a little about the first job you ever got while in La La Land?
DG: My first job ever was when I played Buddy #1 on “American History X”...I only had about 2-3 lines but I was on cloud 9. I remember getting the phone call that I got the part and I literally fell to my knees and thanked God! I was a 17 year old kid from Canada so it all seemed so unreal to be here in LA and about to actually act on a professional set. Great moment.

COF: What have you been up to while not auditioning or working?
DG: I’m a workout-aholic...so I’m usually at the gym running and lifting weights or at the boxing gym (when I’m not injured). Also, I started a clothing line as a hobby www.calebclothing.com and started putting more time and effort into it...it’s been a lot of fun. Besides that I’ve just been working on getting behind the scenes more as I mentioned earlier...directing and writing.

COF: If you could pick any actress, singer, and actor to work with- who would you choose and why?
DG: I’d love to work with my favorite director Inarritu and Sean Penn. Inarritu because he seems like he gives his actors freedom to play around with the scene...it just seems like he understands how to create real moments on film and capture that. That moves me as an actor and director...raw, honest and real emotions. Gives me goosebumps. Also, his gritty camera work is amazing to me. Huge fan of his work. And Sean Penn is...well, Sean Penn. I cant remember him ever having a false moment on-screen.

COF: If you weren't film/television industry what would you be doing?
DG: I would have more than likely become some type of doctor or a businessman. If I didnt go to school I’d probably would have joined the army and/or become a boxer.

COF: For those who haven't heard yet you branched out in the Director/Writer's seat of film-making for the 2007 indie film "Cole", can you tell us about how it felt to be behind the camera this time around?
DG: It was pretty scary at first but once we began filming things became comfortable and we had a lot of fun. I really enjoyed it...I have a huge respect for Actors. Actors put their hearts on display every time they step in front of a camera. One of the main reasons why I wanted to direct is because of that respect.
COF: What advice would you give to someone wanting to move out to LA to pursue a career in performing?
DG: I applaud you for your courage. Follow your heart and be around people that will encourage you...good, positive people.

COF: We have seen a couple of Danso posers surfacing on the social networking sites, specifically Myspace, what goes through your head when you see and hear of them?
DG: It doesn't bother me...it’s actually quite flattering that someone would take the time out to create a Danso Gordon page. I don't see myself as a celebrity I simply see myself as a kid from Canada who happens to act for a living...so it's flattering.

COF: What has been your favorite item you have received from a fan? Creepiest?
DG: Years ago a fan gave me a wooden bracelet, she was a sweetheart...I’ve kept it till this day. As far as creepiest? nothing really crazy thankfully.

COF: What is your favorite movie? - Fan (Facebook)
DG: By far...Braveheart. I must’ve watched that film 18 times by now. The whole idea of believing in something so much (like love) that you’ll die for it fascinates me...I believe we all want to be heroes in our own way and that film has really inspired me.

COF: Can you tell us a little about your involvement with Caleb Production? - Fan (Facebook)
DG: Yeah, it’s been a long dream of mine to direct and produce independent films and make a living doing it. Hopefully, I’ll have the opportunity to do that in the future with caleb productions.

DG: I don't really watch tv to be honest, not much of a fan...I really love watching film. If I do watch tv it's to watch boxing and the occasional reality show. Years ago I remember being obsessed with “the practice” and “felicity”...or maybe I was just obsessed with Keri Russell, lol...not sure. I also really liked shows like “The Wire” and “Friday Night Lights”. Would of loved to be on either one of em.

CoF: What was your first job in La La Land?

JC: My First Job in LA was working at Hollywood video rentals during college at UCLA. I then worked at the famous Grove movie theater which was a lot of fun especially since so many celebrities go that one. I then went to Blockbuster to work...apparently I only accept jobs that are movie affiliated...lol

CoF: Can you tell us a little about your guest appearance on "Windfall"?

JC: Yea, Windfall was such a bittersweet experience. It was my first Prime-time TV appearance and it was sooooo much fun to film. There was a lot of action sequences with my character Raul and his billionaire kids posse and were jumping into a moving limo and fight sequences and all. Then it was all cut out when it aired because the series got canceled and my story line was the cliffhanger for the next season and since it got canceled they removed the majority of my story line. I was crushed because I was so excited for everyone to see what we filmed..But it happens. That was a great experience and coincidentally Gabrielle Christian [S.O.N.'s Spencer] was in that episode with me, which was a blast. I just wish every got to see it.

CoF: What was your role/ character on the Nickelodeon series "Taina" ?

JC: That was a very small gig. I was in the choir with Taina. Haha I still love that show. I watch it online from time to time. It was fun to sing with so many other kids my age.

CoF: What was "The Lockdown Club" and what was your role in this?

JC: The Lockdown Club was the little project that could! I was referred to the writer [Valerie Udoezer] of the play because they had lost the actor who was supposed to play Jose for the stage production and my best friend Sphen told her about me for the role. I originally denied the role because I wasn't interested, but the Valerie kept calling and I gave in and I am glad I did. It's essentially an urban version of "The Breakfast Club" about 6 very different students who get stuck in the class room during a school shooting and are forced to face each others differences. I played Jose, a gay senior at the high school and head of the cheerleading squad. We then got picked up for another run at the renowned Stella Adler Theater and then it got funded to make into a film which went on to win several awards including Best Short Film. It was a huge learning experience for me.



CoF: When you are not working, what are you doing?

JC: When I am not working I'm still trying to stay creative. I am usually recording and writing new music or just trying to enjoy time with Valery, friends and family because one day you're free and then the next you could be completely booked for the next 8 months with no free time at all, so I try to enjoy the in-between too.



CoF: You recently released your first official album, "Closer", tell us a little about it?

JC:  "Closer" is a huge accomplishment for me that has taken over 3 years to make. I had been wanting to record my own music for as long as I could remember. Finally, I did an original theatre production called "Possession" and the group who wrote most of the music is a popular LA Latin fusion Band named Incendio. I went to see them perform live and I was blown away with their music and talent and I felt that with their amazing Latin sound and my love for r&b/pop we could make a great unique sound and eventually we wrote the song Closer which is my first song I ever completely wrote. We worked so well together we wrote Long Road Home and then in between touring I would meet up with other local producers and write the other songs on the album. The album is very personal, every word is expressing exactly what I felt or feel. The songs are fun and sexy like Closer and Your Way which Valery is on and then more vulnerable with tracks like My Battlefield and Long Road Home and Waitin' I wrote as anthem for everyone of course, but I honestly selfishly wrote it to inspire and motivate myself because I am sure everyone can relate to working hard for something and waiting to see the fruits of your labor and the difficulties you face while trying to make your dreams a reality. If you wanna know me, listen to the words I wrote on this record, these songs are me.


CoF: What singer, actor, and actress would you want to work with? Why?

JC: I have so many people I would love to work with. I would love to work with singers like Pink, Jojo, Brandy, Usher, Mario, Marc Anthony, Paramore... soo many. Im influenced by so many genres of music I would like to play with others from those genres. As far as actors are concerned I would kill to work with Angelina Jolie, Giovanni Ribisi, Joseph Gordon Levitt, Jennifer Lopez (don't hate =P), Toni Colette, Jane Lynch, America Ferrera, to name a few. All these people i'd want to work with because I am inspired by their talent and I feel like they could bring something great or different out of me and help to me grow as an artist.


CoF: If you were not in the film and music industry, what would you be doing? 

JC:  Lol I've been trying to figure that out for years because this business is so brutal sometimes you want to run to plan B. But I am so passionate about what I do I can't see myself doing much else. But to not give a lame answer like that lol it's very possible I would do something with animals. I don't know what exactly. But I have always had a strong connection to animals, so I think I'd find someway to work with them.


CoF: What was the experience like starring in the national Broadway tour of "Rent" ?

JC: Rent was a dream come true for me. Something I wrote down that one day I would star in and then we I got it, it was an incredible feeling to scratch that off the list. It was my first tour ever and it was with one of  biggest shows of Broadway history. The fans [ Shout out to the RENTheads] were incredible. It was a first taste of fame for me because people are so attached to the show they would know who we were in each city and we would be pointed at when we went to eat or to the mall and sometimes we even had people grabbing for us after the show at the stage door pulling at our clothes and stuff. It was surreal, I still talk to several of those fans I made from that tour. But it was exhausting and difficult to be somewhere new all the time, sleeping on a freezing bus, living out of a suitcase and eating at the same fast food restaurants. It can become surprisingly monotonous. RENT was an experience I'll never forget, I hope to do the show again someday.


CoF: What is your opinion on people who pose as celebrities?

JC: It's creepy and angering while at the same time flattering. I haven't had to deal with it personally yet. But I remember when a person on twitter was posing as Valery and then lying and saying that the real Valery was a fake. It would anger and annoy me because I knew the truth but not everyone does so that fake could say things on Val's behalf that weren't true. I appreciate it more when people don't pretend to BE the celeb but rather find a way to support the celeb they like with fan pages or accounts for these social networks.



CoF: "Go, Diego Go!" is an extremely popular Nickelodeon children's series, what was the experience like playing Diego on the national tour?

JC:Surprisingly, Diego has been one of, if not my favorite work experiences to date. It came out of nowhere, I was referred to the production people by a friend I worked with during RENT because they were desperately seeking a young Latino to carry the Diego show. So out of nowhere I get a call, they flew me out to New York and they told me that day in person after my audition that I had the part. It was such a rush because that's rare that you find out on the spot you got the job. The show was so much fun because Diego is so adventurous and physical like myself and I loved the music. I was a huggge rock star to these children, it was surreal. It's amazing to say that I headlined a show at Radio City Music Hall and performed on The Today Show. The cast was amazing, the production team was phenomenal and if every production and experience was like my Go Diego Go experience I would be elated.



CoF (FAN): How did you and Valery Ortiz meet?

JC: Valery and I are high school sweet hearts. We went to a popular performing Arts High School in Orlando, FL and we ran in the same circles of friends since we all spent so much time together at the theater there. We started out as really good friends and then during my senior year when we were both starring in West Side Story the friendship shifted to a romantic and we have been together ever since and are now engaged to be married in 2011 after our 9 year anniversary. We've been everywhere together and experienced so much of growing up together she is my true partner in everything I do and I can't imagine not being together!


CoF (FAN): Are you going to make a music video?

JC: Yes, I am working on getting everything together for a music video for Waitin'. I am also a dancer and I have already started choreographing the dance and created the treatment for the video. I hope to get it together within the next few months!


CoF (FAN): Would you ever want to produce/write/direct ?

JC: I'm sure thats in my future, I'm a control freak and I like to hold the reigns on things. Although if or when I do, I see it more in theater than I do in tv/film.


CoF (FAN): Who is your inspiration? 

JC: I'm inspired more by people I know. My biggest inspiration is God, I am very spiritual. My family follows, My Father Lou, My Mother Nicza, My sisters Stefanie and Mindy are huge supporters of me and they are all so incredible with their own talents and qualities I aspire to be like them daily. I have so much family that inspire me and my friends who are committed to doing the same things I am inspire me because of their fight and their journey I learn as well. And of course Val inspires me. The things she has done and accomplished and especially at her age astonishes me, so intelligent and well put together. Those are my biggest inspirations .


CoF (FAN): If you could guest star in any show, past or present, what would it be, and why?

JC: Well an obvious one for me is Glee, I am obsessed with it, can't get enough. But I would love to be on Brothers and Sisters or something like Nip/Tuck or Dexter. I think something older more mature and dark. I would have loved to have been on Ugly Betty so I am sad to see that one go. These shows fit my humor or my personality and they move me.

COF: You co-star in the award winning independent film "16 to Life", can you tell us a little about the film, your character, and how it was filming on the Mississippi River?

MM: The film was great, Lots of fun to shoot. It was FREEZING everyday and we had to wear tiny clothes. which seemed miserable at the time. but now i look back and smile at the memory. The cast was great though and the director was great because she knew what she wanted and how to get us to deliver.

COF: You have made guest appearances on "3way" and "Rockville, CA", how is filming a web-series, for you, different than a TV series?
MM: Both fun! 3way was great because i was able to work with my favorite write again (Nancylee Myatt) and i always love when i get a chance to work with Maeve Quinlan! and Rockville CA was fun as well because their cast was incredible! Being in a scene with Ryan Hansen was hard. because all i wanted to do was watch him perform, i had to keep reminding myself to say my lines. but as for being on a web series as opposed to a television series... no difference as far as my job in concerned. i recite lines no matter what.

COF: You have made a few guest appearances on the hit CW show "90210", how was that different that working on a smaller network?

MM: not different at all. again acting is acting.

COF: Can you tell us a little about the first job you ever got while in La La Land?

MM: it was on Drake and Josh. i just walked by and said one line "hey drake looking cool" it was the first thing i ever auditioned for. i look back at it now and laugh but i was so nervous and excited then.

COF: What have you been up to while not auditioning or working?

MM: every day stuff. Nothing TOO exciting or out of the ordinary. Just typical everyday tasks. Grocery shopping, Gym, Movies.

COF: If you could pick any actress, singer, and actor to work with- who would you choose and why?

MM: Shirley MacLaine - she is one of my favorites! Christopher Reeves - He has been my hero since i was a wee tot. (i cried the day he passed)

COF: If you weren't film/television industry what would you be doing?

MM: i would be writing... anything and everything but scripts.

COF: Tell us a little bit about your film "Chain Letter"?

MC: as of now it looks like it will be in theaters everywhere aug 6th. it stars Nikki reed, Noah Segan, Cody Cashe , myself and many more. it is from the producers of the "Saw" series and is a horror, thriller that revolves around technology.

COF: You filmed two films working with former co-stars Danso Gordon (Dark House) and Rob Moran (The Outside) can you tell us a bit about those films, and what it was like working with Gordon and Moran again?

MC:of course it was wonderful working with those super talented guys again! it is looking like my first shot at producing and starring in a movie, The Outside, will hit DVD in july and i don't know the status of the Dark House film.

COF: Last year you were involved with a web-series "Rockville,CA" , is filming a web-series any different than a television series?
MC:pretty much the same deal but a bit compressed being that the episodes are only 5 min. or so. I was very lucky to meet so many great people on that project though.

COF: You have made two guest appearances on the hit CW show "Supernatural", could fans see another guest appearance by you, if the show is renewed? Also, transitioning from a smaller network to a larger network can be a little intimidating for some actors, what was your experience like going from The-N (TeenNick) to The CW?

MC:it wasn't intimidating at all thanks to Jared and Jensen of Supernatural. those guys are great.

COF: Are you working on any new projects?

MC:nothing i can talk about at this time.

COF: You starred in the Boogeyman Remake, "Boogeyman 2" what was the biggest difference or change you faced when compared to a television series?

MC:you really just get a lot more time to capture a performance in film as opposed to tv.

COF: Can you tell us a little about the first job you ever got while in La La Land?

MC:South Of Nowhere was my first job and i think it speaks for itself. i was LUCKY

CYO: You filmed a guest appearance on the upcoming show Gigantic, can you tell us a little about it?

VO: I played Kelli, the family’s live in assistant. Short and sweet appearance. The cast is absolutely great and such a fun bunch so I'm sure you'll love the show!

CYO: "Diary of a Single Mom" is up for some awards, how is this outstanding show different from any other show you have done?

VO: Like SON, I'm so very proud of 'Diary'. We won the Best Indie Soap Award if you hadn't already heard. (Thanks for voting!) I absolutely love my character (Lupe Ramirez) and I love my cast (Monica Calhoun, Janice Lynde, Leon, Billy Dee Williams and Richard Roundtree to name a few) They are incredibly talented including our writer Cheryl L West and our director Robert Townsend. It's honestly such a powerful story and having it on The Public Internet Channel (www.pic.tv) also adds to the impact we're trying to have on helping and educating as well as entertaining our audience. Now as much progress as webseries' have had, I'm sad to say that I still feel like there's a disconnect and laziness amongst audiences. If you can't TiVo it on TV, I have noticed less people make the effort to go online and tune in. It makes me sad because I know we've got something really good here!

Either way, working on 'Diary' has been so much fun and I can't wait to start filming Season 3!

CYO: Are you working on any new projects?

VO: Yes! I just started hosting American Latino TV! You can go towww.americanlatino.tv for more info on when/what channel you can catch it in your area. My first episode won't air until later this month.

CYO: You also had a small arch on the short lived "What About Brian" , how was that?
VO: So fun! I had worked with the director Bethany Rooney before on SON, and I really respect her work, so I felt super comfortable/excited. It's always a little scary being the "new kid" on a set but the cast was great and I enjoyed the experience.

CYO: Can you tell us a little about the first job you ever got while in La La Land?
VO: LATV Live! That was my first hosting gig out here! Ironically enough, we film American Latino TV in the same studio! As far as acting, my first job was a role in the pilot, "Emilys Reasons Why Not". I was SO nervous and all I had to say was, "Would you like I tell to you the specials?" (in a thick Spanish accent) Ha ha Too funny!

CYO: What have you been up to while not auditioning or working?

VO: I'm planning my wedding! I just recently got engaged and will be married to my High School sweetheart Jan of 2011! It still feels pretty surreal.

CYO: If you could pick any actress, singer, and actor to work with- who would you choose and why?

VO: Actress- Jennifer Lopez because I'm a huge fan of hers and she's been a great inspiration for me.

Singer- Thats hard but I'd love to have a hit song with my fiancé Jesse Carrion. Just like Marc Anthony and J-Lo! Haha A little farfetched for me because signing isn't my strongest suit ha ha but a dream, nonetheless!

Actor- can't think of any but I've always dreamt of filming something with my big brother Hector. Being in one of his films would be a dream come true.

CYO: If you weren't acting you would be doing what?

VO: Definitely hosting my own show! I'm a huge fan of 'Extreme Home Makeover' and 'The Biggest Loser'! I'd love to host a show that changes peoples’ lives!

CYO: For those who haven't seen Jesse Carrion's Closer on youtube, you sang a bit on one of the songs, can you tell us about that experience and process? Also, any other songs coming up that fans might hear you on?

VO: Ha! You're sweet, but I really just 'talked' in rhythm! Ha ha The process was so much fun and actually really intimidating. Jesse is so talented and I didn't want to disappoint him! And if you haven't heard the song, I had to sound "sexy" so it was so funny/a little embarrassing to mess up and have Jess give me notes! CYO: What advice would you give to someone wanting to move out to LA to pursue a career in performing?

VO: Wow. First! Get educated, do your homework (headshots, resume, casting workshops, acting classes etc) Make sure you have all the necessary tools to be a professional in the business. Next, SAVE SAVE SAVE! You don't want to move out here and have to struggle. Balancing work/paying your bills and focusing on auditions isn't easy. If you can save money before your move, I highly recommend it. Third! Be prepared to get rejected, a lot! Surround yourself with positive energy, stay focused and go get 'em! This is a hard industry to work in but it's not impossible! Believe in yourself and don't give up! :)

CYO: We have seen a number of Valery posers surfacing on the social networking sites, what goes through your head when you see and hear of them? What would you say to them if you were talking with them face to face?

VO: Hmmm I knew they existed but never had a problem until one of my posers went out of there way to tell ME I was a fake on Twitter. They told my followers that I wasn't the real Valery Ortiz. It really irked me and I thought it was SO disrespectful. They say imitation is the highest form of flattery but posing as another person is just wrong and honestly kinda creepy.

CYO: What has been your favorite item you have received from a fan? Most creepy?

VO: Favorite?!? Wow! Honestly, the first hand written letters I received were completely surreal. I couldn't believe it and to this day it feels weird. It means a lot to me that anyone other than my family would believe and support my dreams. I've had a couple fans sketch or paint pics of me! That was sweet. As far as creepy...none yet I don't think!

CYO: (FINAL QUESTION) Any final words for your fans?

VO: Like I said on SONonline, thank you SO so much!!! Honestly, it just seems like thanks isn't enough. I truly appreciate your support and I feel so lucky to be in this position. Gracias!!!!
