CALPRO Leadership Institute

The California Adult Literacy Professional Development Project (CALPRO) in conjunction with the California Department of Education (CDE) is seeking nominations and applications for the 2012 California Adult Education Leadership Institute (the Institute). We are seeking candidates for the Institute who have been adult education administrators for three or fewer years. This is an opportunity for you (or your supervisor) to nominate one administrator from your adult education program to attend. For the 2012 year we will accept up to 25 nominations for participation in the one-year institute. Priority registration will be given to nominees who registered for the New Administrators Orientation (held October 31 and November 1, 2011), and administrators with the most recent appointment date to their administrative position. The Institute will be held over a total of four days in two, two-day blocks.

Update to Management Competencies Self-Assessment

NEW! CALPRO has updated its Management Competencies Self-Assessment and added an individual Professional Development Plan. When adult education administrators take the self-assessment, they can now access their results instantly, view recommended professional development resources, and print and save these resources as their annual professional development plan.

Through these asynchronous classes, you can exchange ideas with fellow educators, get input from a subject-expert facilitator, and earn certificates of course completion (14 hours) and register for Continuing Education Units (CEUs).

In recent years, there has been a growth in the research on adult learner transitions to postsecondary education. In this brief, the research findings and recommendations are shared on the role of counselors in successfully transitioning adult learners to postsecondary education and ensuring they are successful in meeting their educational goals of entering postsecondary education.

The California Adult Literacy Professional Development Project (CALPRO) is pleased to announce a new online resource for adult educators, the Video Library. The goal of this video library is to increase individual adult educators’ access to professional development on emerging priority topics. Current topics include college transition and orientation for new adult education administrators. Additionally, the library features videos of best practices in action such as classroom approaches to teaching English to adult learners. The library also serves as a repository of three series of CALPRO Webinars from Fall 2010 to the present, including the Instructors Forum, the Administrators Forum, and the Adult Education Research series.
