The relocation of the mosque congregation from Mawson Road to the proposed new site on Mill Road will improve the image of Cambridge and the United Kingdom among students and tourists as well as among Muslims living locally.

...	3	The current mosque offers no car parking, whereas the new facility will provide off-‐street parking for all users, resulting in major benefits to local residents.

4	The proposed new facility will provide a spacious piazza open to the public, providing a much-‐needed green space in a built-‐up area of the city.

...	6	The innovative design of the mosque will provide a major point of architectural interest on a site formerly occupied by an unsightly warehouse, helping to regenerate a somewhat neglected part of Mill Road.

...The Cambridge Muslim community of more than 7,000 people have by the grace of Allah outgrown their current place of worship.

...It will also incorporate a cafeteria open to all members of the community; a meeting/conference room which local groups can book for their functions; and a garden of classical Spanish and Indian inspiration to provide a haven of peace for all comers. The project aims to include an element of affordable housing for families as well, which will provide ‘natural surveillance’ for the garden area.

...Rising from 2 storeys to a maximum height of 3 storeys above ground level, the new building will be consistent with the height, scale and massing of the surrounding built environment.

The overall design for the site has been developed from the concept of a calm ‘oasis’, with the ‘trees’ set out on a generous 7.8 x 7.8 metre grid forming the main mosque structure.

... In addition to the Mosque’s dedicated areas (ablution, teaching, children’s area, morgue) there will be a café, teaching area and meeting rooms for use by the local Muslim and non-Muslim communities.

‘The new Mosque will be a real neighbourhood as well as a spiritual centre, easily accessible by public transport and on foot, with facilities for formal and informal community group meetings as well as a leisure destination,’ said Tim Winter.
