Rally in the 100 Acre Wood: Salem, MO

Canadian driver Antoine L'Estage captured his first Rally in the 100 Acre Wood victory this past weekend. The annual rally invites race fans(and participants) from Missouri to venture into the woods for a weekend of controlled carnage. Enjoy the photos.

Drive to Survive

These are photos from the Drive to Survive benefit fundraiser at The Wrap Factory. The event was thrown in the honor Dorian Comeau, who was in a tragic accident that left him paralyzed from the neck down.

The plan was to throw a great car show to raise money for Dorian, and the result was one of the largest and best ran events in recent memory.

Rainy Day Photo Shoot

On a chilly and raining day, most people enjoy leisurely indoor activities such as reading a book or a watching a movie. Then there are people such as my friend Kyle (of Focus Photography and Video) and I who decided to go shoot our cars. His is the lovely Rallye Red Si sedan, mine is the ugly yet lovable Montego Blue '97 Miata.

KC Region SCCA Solo: Event 1

The Kansas City region of SCCA kicked off it's solo season with a rescheduled Saturday event due to an unseasonable March snow storm. The event was held on April 17 at the familiar yet still awesome Precision Driving Center at MCC-Blue River in Independence.

Racing was anything but dull with a handful of opening-day DNFs, an unintended water hazard (The Camaro hit it twice), and a halftime delay after a minor collision with the timing lights at the finish line. It's all in good fun, though. Enjoy the photos.

2010 KC Auto Show

So this year, like every year, I went down to check out the KC Auto Show. Overall, it was just okay. There aren't a lot of exciting new models this year, and Nissan/Infiniti joined BMW in the club of vehicle manufacturers that think the KC Auto Show is a waste of time. Which is too bad, because I love the 370Z and always enjoy drooling over a GTR.

However, there are a few exciting cars, such as the exquisite SL65 AMG and Euro-beauty Ford Fiesta.

Anyways, I didn't shoot a whole lot. But here you go.

100 Acre Wood Rally: Salem, MO

The annual 100 Acre Wood Rally is more than enough to get Missouri gearheads amped up about the beginning of the 2010 automotive season. March marks the opening of track days, drag strips, autocrosses and other racing locales that we've been waiting for all winter long. This race provides a chance for the majority of us to check out only as spectators, but some fortunate and bold Missourians, such as Mark Hubbe in his more-than-baller '70 V-dub, strap on their helmets in late February.

The back roads near Salem, MO are where the racing of the second stop on the Rally America schedule occur. For series mad man (and icon of trendy clothes-wearing folk), Ken Block, this is an event that he has some history with. His win in '06 was his first national rally win, and he has now won the event for his 5th consecutive year after taking the top spot on the podium again on Saturday. His new Fiesta is apparently as mean and gnarly as its appearance suggests; it surely didn't slow him down one bit.

Rally fans, locals and the people that fall into both categories lucked out with warmer-than-freezing temperatures and clear skies for the weekend. Here's to hoping the rest of the year is anything near as exciting as the racing from this past weekend in rural Missouri. First are boring images of the exposes (park and check out locations) in Steelville and Salem. These are followed by photos of racing near Salem and the special stage in Potosi.

Cars, Coffee, Cure: charity car show at House of Boost

Known for its insanely powerful project cars and meticulous execution, House of Boost has been synonymous with go-fast performance for years. But it was the shop's pursuit of charity that inspired the Cars, Coffee, Cure event it hosted on Sept. 19.

Attendees brought their cars, cameras and some cash to the shop for a car show where 100% of the donations go to charity (ADA Step Out: Walk to Fight Diabetes at Thies Park on 9/26/09). The turnout was great considering the short 2-week notice; 71 cars were shown, and $1,700 was raised. Although vehicles with big V8s and massive superchargers dominated the lot, plenty of other cars also showed up and participated.

Winners of the car show were:

1st Place - Jim Hatcher - 1956 Thunderbird
2nd Place - Jared Cox - 1956 Chevy BelAir
3rd Place - Scott Shanks - 1970 Dodge Challenger

To remind everyone that the shop specializes in performance, the crew dyno'd one of their creations. The Mineral Grey '03 Cobra put down 1060whp on E85, and the car is also apparently daily driven. The Cobra utilizes twin Garrett 67mm turbos, 160lb injectors, Comp Cams and other goodies to feed the built 4.6L V8.

The guys at House of Boost plan on a much larger show next Spring with more planning and promotion. With the quality, and the quantity, of cars and trucks that turned out this time, missing future Cars, Coffee, Cure events would be downright foolish.

7/26 KC Region Autox at MCC

KC Region autox was once again held at the wonderful facility at MCC in Independence. There were tons of cars and racers in attendence, including a couple Cobras, a few Porsches, a (non-participating) Ford GT and a brand-spanking new Nismo 370Z. Here are some photos of the action. Enjoy.

I went out to autox this Sunday to check out the new MCC course in Independence and take some photos. It was damn hot, but I was really impressed with the location. I only took a handful of photos while I was out there. Expect many more for the next event.

'09 KC Autoshow

After missing a couple years for whatever reason, I made it back to the autoshow this year. There were plenty of lustworthy new models such as the Nissan GTR and 350Z, the Audi S5, and the Chevy Corvette ZR1 and new Camaro.

Chuong's drag EG hatchback

I shot these pictures of Chuong's wicked powerful (~800whp) EG hatchback about a year and a half ago. Chuong owns and operates Revline Motorsports in Kansas City. His reputation among Honda owners, and everyone else for that matter, is quite exceptional. This hatchback is just another one of his many insanely fast straightline beasts wrapped in an unassumingly stock-appearing shell.
