Koh Samui, Thailand daily weather update; 19th May, 2013

Today's weather;

The sky over Koh Samui is cloudy again and it looks rather grey with a ncie fresh breeze. Any opening in the clouds is covered by clouds again that are higher up in the atmosphere. Current temp at 7am is 27.8C

Yesterday was warm and fairly sunny besides a shower that raged over several parts of the island around 5pm. Max temp reached 34.5C
Have a look at the post about the Blue Paradise Fest from two days ago.

The forecast predicts now a strong breeze until and including next weekend with more cloud cover. It should remain dry though, besides an occasional tropical shower.

Blue Paradise Fest, Chaweng Lake, the event

Yesterday around 6pm we arrived at the Blue Paradise Fest at Chaweng Lake with the family to enjoy a couple of hours of entertainment, sponsored by Bangkok Airways to celebrate the 24th anniversary of Samui Airport.

It was very well organized and there were only two entrance areas with good security checks. So early on it wasn't too busy but there were already enough people out and about. By the time we left somewhere after 8pm there were still plenty of people going towards the lake.

There was also plenty of food, among others from members of the THA (Thai Hotel Association)

We first checked out the children's playground or Fun Park which had a few attractions like a wheel, a bungee and a fun castle for kids. Shortly after that we went to check out the food selection since we all were hungry!

The entrance was fee and a nice line up of Thai 'Superstars' were scheduled to perform. We saw Catherine English and the second act whose name I don't know, the shows went on until 1am and included Mario Maurer, who is world famous in Thailand!

During our first visit to the Fun Park there weren't many queues but shortly before we went home there were queues in front of all attractions. In general it was a lot busier by then.

It seemed like everybody had a good time and it was nicely busy, at least 5.000 people showed up I would imagine. Now if Bangkok Airways would spend this kind of money on the 4th edition of the Samui Marathon, I would be very happy but unfortunately this event has been skipped from their agenda.

Today's weather;

This morning still sees a lot of blue in Samui skies but there are also a few clouds now out and about. Current temp at 7am is 27.6C

Yesterday saw another warm day around the island although there was more cloudcover during the daytime and in the evening. Max temp still reached 34.4C

The forecast shows chance of clouds and maybe, if you're lucky, you can experience a tropical shower. Such a shower will cool things down a bit and give much needed water to the plants around the island.

Today's weather;

It's a perfect blue sky again this morning and it promises again to be steaming hot today around Koh Samui. Current temp at 7am is 28.5C

Yesterday I registered for the 'Care for Cancer' run in Nathon, organized by the Four Seasons hotel this coming 1st June and this is the view from the reception at the Four Seasons

Yesterday saw a sunny, blue sky al day long and it was very hot with a max temp of 35.6C

The forecast shows more sunny day ahead with possibly some more breeze late in and shortly after the weekend.

Today's weather;

A blue sky rules over Koh Samui this morning. Current temp at 7am is already 29C

The 'old' and original Bot at Wat Plai Laem, this is one of the few temples in Thailand I would reckon with two Bot's

Yesterday was very hot again with a max temp of 35.1C

The forecast predicts possibly more showers after the weekend.

Today's weather;

The weather has changed for the better right now and it's full blue and sunny skies all over Koh Samui. Current temp at 10am is 32.5C

This update is later than usual because there was a 100 day memorial service for my Mother in law at the Plai Laem Temple this morning.

Today's weather;

It's still a little bit cloudy but thee's a lot more blue in the sky this morning around Koh Samui. It may get a lot warmer today compared o the last couple of days. Current temp at 7am is 28.6C

Yesterday the sky broke open again and there was plenty of sunshine with an immediate increase on how warm the day was. Max temp reached a whooping 34.9C

The forecast shows more clue skies for the rest of the week with an increase of wind after the weekend.

Today's weather;

A grey cloud layer is nice more hovering over Koh Samui this morning. The sun comes through occasionally but blue sky parts are limited. Current temp at 7am is 28.1C

Green flags can be found on the beaches all around Koh Samui at the moment, in contrast to the rainy season when rip tides and undertows rule and red flags indicate dangerous waters

Yesterday saw a cloudy day with heavy, grey during the morning which resulted in a short shower before noon. During the afternoon it cleared up a bit with some short sun bursts here and there. Max temp reached 30.5C

The forecast looks good, the cloud cover should break but may be back come next weekend.

Juzza Pizza 2 in Bophuds Fisherman's Village revisited

Recently our family finds it's way more often than not to Juzza Pizza (that's a link to a blog post of 4 years ago) in Fisherman's Village. The food is great , the view is stunning from the terrace and the breathtaking sunsets don't hurt either! It's affordable as well.

It's our favorite Italian restaurant by choice and we visit about once a month at least at the moment. If I remember correctly before my last trip to Indonesia, my last meal on the island was here and upon returning the first meal was here again!

The interior hasn't changed a lot since 2009!

Interesting is that they had the first incarnation of this restaurant in Chaweng's Soi Green Mango, until around 2000 or 2001, where now Henry's Africa is located. A location that turned out to be a good choice to impress the girl that now is my wife!

They have some heavenly starters, this tomato soup with sage is one of them, but the Sauteed Mushroom with Butter and Garlic also do the trick for me.

My wife who's pregnant ordered the above dish and than decided that the taste and smell of capers didn't go down well with her overactive taste and smell buds, allowing me to clean up this dish. Lucky me, I thought it delicious.

Twelve different pizza's are on the menu plus another 10 vegetarian pizza options are offered, plenty to choose from.

Creamy blue cheese sauce (pictured above), Fresh basil tomato sauce or Parmesan cream sauce

The gnocchi's were delicious, 'nuff said! This was my choice of the day.

Last but not least, my all time fave here; Spinach Cream

Spinach and a dash of garlic, in creamy sauce with Parmesan with the choice of spaghetti, fettuccine or penne

Our daughter went for my all fave dish, the Spinach cream pasta, hence I took the gnocchi's! This dish is awesome, in my book and 9 out of 10 times this is what I order.

Juzza Pizza is well worth a visit and a reservation for a table on the terrace with a view over the bay and Koh Phangan is recommended at 077 245662-3, keep in mind that the restaurant is closed on Mondays.

The restaurant can be found if you come from the traffic lights, go all the way down to the pier and take a right, after about 300 meters it's at your left hand.

It's very grey and cloudy this morning around Koh Samui, I can only hope the cloud cover breaks and the sun will peak through. Current temp at 7am is 28C

The forecast shows a strange phenomena today, around mid week the cloud cover should become less but the chance of tropical showers increases. Let's see and wait how that pans out!

Blue Paradise fest, 17th May, Chaweng Lake

This coming Friday, 17th May there will be a free festival with plenty of musical 'Thai Superstars', among others, Mario Maurer, food is supplied by the Thai Hotel Association, Koh Samui Chapter.

The free festival is to celebrate the 24th Anniversary of the Samui airport, which is owned and operated by Bangkok Airways. It promises to be a busy night, so see you there! Deal?!

It's fairly cloudy again this morning around Koh Samui but during the daytime I would expect the sun to peak through on a regular base for the tan lovers among us. Current temp at 7am is 27.5C

Yesterday started out cloudy but during the day the sun burned away a lot of those clouds and it was still warm and fairly sunny and dry! Max temp reached 31.8C

The forecast is looking good, stronger wind tomorrow and Saturday and after that it's looking good if you're looking for sunshine. Don't be surprised if you encounter an occasional tropical shower occasionally.

On Koh Samui it's cloudy and although it looks like more rain, the clouds should move on later today. Current temp at 7am is 26C

In the meantime, here in Indonesia, on Bali, I'm on my last couple of hours for this trip, at noon local time my flight to Bangkok is scheduled for departure. It's nice and sunny with a few clouds and current temp at 8am local time of 27C

Yesterday saw a lot of rain around Koh Samui, almost all day long and a good 33mm of rain came down. Max temp reached 31.5C

The forecast is on the up again though and most of the clouds should evaporate today and make place for more sunny days again.

Food on Wheels; Nasi Goreng in Sanur on Bali, Indonesia

It's my last day of my current stay in Indonesia, until August most likely and what better way to say goodbye with an addition to the Food on Wheels series. Posts from Indonesia have already been added before, but also from the Philippines and South Korea, proving that the Asian food culture differs from the Western food culture by means of so many more and the variety of street vendors.

The vendor was a very friendly person who seemed to take very good care of his customers and with a good sense of humor. He pulls his cart through the Sanur nights on Bali and sells Nasi Goreng. 'Nasi' means rice in Baha Indonesia and 'Goreng' means fried. In Thai it would be a Khao Pad. 'Mie' or noodles are also on the menu.

It's intriguing how many of these carts are pushed and/or pulled through the Indonesian city nights and how the vendors manage to make money out of it and stay as upbeat as this guy is.

This night I also saw a few even smaller carts selling 'Sateh' and mostly with 'Ayam' or chicken but I haven't seen one selling my fave meat; 'Kambing' or goat, yet! Something to keep an eye out for.

Today's weather;

Koh Samui is a bit wetter all of a sudden and it's partly cloudy around the island this morning. Current temp at 7am is 26.4C

In the meantime, back on my last day in Indonesia before returning home, in Sanur on Bali to be precise, it's also partly cloudy and I'm ready for the PADI Course Director update here, about to start in an hour. Last night there was some rain here but it looks sunny enough right now to hopefully stay dry. Current temp at 8am local time is 27C

Yesterday saw almost all day long rain around Koh Samui, constant around Plai Laem but with some heavy showers in the Chaweng area. Last night there was more rain again. Just over 30mm came down in just one day, which is a lot. Max temp reached 31.8C

The forecast for the next 7 days changed again and all the strong wind that was announced yesterday has kind of evaporated. Today and tomorrow may see some more rian but after that it's dry again.

Today's weather;

On Koh Samui a blue sky is shaping up with a current temp of around 30.3C at 7am, that's steaming!

Meanwhile back here on Gili Air in Indonesia, it's my last day of this trip. A sunny sky is forming up and at 8am local time we will head off for a deep dive. Current temp at 7am local time is 25C

Upon returning from the dive it's more or less immediately on a fast boat to Sanur in Bali for a PADI Meeting tomorrow and the day after it's back to home sweet home again.

The forecast for the next 7 days is interesting, yesterday I already mentioned in increase in wind but now it shows a steady increase in wind strength each day, culminating to what looks like right now, a mini storm next weekend. No reason to panic yet though, since usually these forecasts aren't that accurate.

On Koh Samui it's getting hot again under a nice blue sky with an occasional cloud. Current temp at 7am is 28.2C

Gili Air in Indonesia is also sunny this morning with a few clouds in he sky but it looks like a hot day is in he making. Current temp at a, local time is 30C.
Just another two days here, a day in Sanur on Bali and it's back home to Samui again! This implies that the PADI IE is over and all our candidates passed their exams yesterday and are now the new PADI Instructors on the block.

Welcome to May 2013

The month of May on Koh Samui can be a bit of a mixed bag. In the previous 6 years of blogging about Samui's weather, it shows that in 2007 and 2008 it was not a good month, 2009 was a mixed bag and between 2010 and 2012 it was fairly good to very good weather with some rainy periods somewhere during the month.

The start of this years month is god and the first half of the month seems to look good.

Work wise it looks busy with a PADI IDC scheduled on Koh Samui pretty much immediately upon returning from Indonesia and if everything works out, another PADI IDC in Dauin in the Philippines towards the end of the month. If the IDC in the Philippines doesn't work out, there will be plenty of running events to keep me busy this and next month after the Samui IDC.

Bring it on for May 2013!

Today's weather;

A slightly delayed update because I was busy with the PADI IE on Gili Air in Indonesia of which you can expect an update on my dive blog later today, but all my candidates passed their exams which is a good thing! The weather on the Gili's is stunning this morning, blue skies and a current temp at 10 am local time of 29C

Back to Koh Samui and the weather there is also good, sunshine and a warm day is in the making with a current temp at 7am of 28.2C

Great advice anywhere in the world but this sign can be found next to the pier on Gili Air in Indonesia

Yesterday was hot on Samui, 35.3C was the max temp!

The forecast for the next 7 days looks wonderful with pretty much sunny skies all the way through.

Today's weather;

Koh Samui woke up under a nice blue sky again and it promises to be a hot one again. Current temp at 7am is 27.2C

On Gili Air in Indonesia a blue sky is heating up rather quickly and during the PADI IE (Instructor Exam), which started right now it's going to be steaming! Current temp at 8am local time is 27C and the temperature is rising.

Yesterday it was all nice and sunny as well, and the we also completed the current PADI IDC.

Once more a nice, sunny and warm day is in the making on Koh Samui. It's already very warm early on with a current temp at 7am of 29.4C

On Gili Air in Indonesia we're about to finish the current PADI IDC today and tomorrow the candidates' exams begin. Weather wise we're doing fine here, blue skies and hot days are ours! Current temp at 8am local time is 27C
