district, a network of brokers who buy and sell girls from Bihar and Uttar
Pradesh for one and a half lakh rupees is active to get older men married.
Recently, the case was revealed when a girl brought from Ambah from Bihar in
Ambah accused her in-laws of harassment. On the complaint of this girl who
turned out to be a minor in the investigation, the action is being taken to
register a case against her husband and her in-laws.

After this case, Dainik Bhaskar did a sting operation and
contacted the people associated with such network, then a broker bluntly said -
Give me 1.25 lakh rupees, I guarantee I will buy you to 18 to 20 years old girl
from Bihar. He also claimed to have 10 to 15 marriages by forging such
purchases. There are more than two dozen brokers active in the network, who are
looking for youths who are unable to get married even after they are
financially prosperous. These brokers buy girls from Bihar, Banaras, Chhatarpur
for more than 100 middle-aged virgins every year by taking a fee of Rs 50,000.
This trend has also increased rapidly in the upper and rich communities.

The serious thing is that 50 per cent of these brides, after
staying in the in-laws' house for two to three months, disappear with their
belongings. Half of these cases do not even reach the police stations due to
fear of social disgrace. A similar case was revealed in Ambah recently when the
girl complained against her in-laws accusing them of harassment.

of the city brought a bride from Chhatarpur for one lakh rupees. Three months
later, during the lockdown, the woman came out of her mother-in-law's Nainagarh

took a bus and reached her village Chhatarpur. The young man gave an
application in City Kotwali and informed about his wife being missing but after
the news of her arrival at home, the family sat silent.

bride from Bihar for one lakh rupees through a broker six months ago. For two

Dear Friends,

The blessed month of Ramadan has started - may Allah bestow His mercy and blessings on you and your families. Month of Ramzan is known for charity, the third pillar of Islam and Muslims have spiritual obligations to pay their Zakat, Sadaqah, Fidya or Kafarah this month. Other charities are almost a person's will but Zakat is necessary for the people's own assets and properties. Quran has designated eight categories of reason which are zakatable. freeing captives [or slaves] is one of those (see Quran-9:60).

Being a member of community I have seen people donating their Zakat for many purposes except freeing captives or slaves just because many of them believe that slavery doesn't exist on this planet which is factually wrong, the slavery has changed its form but it still is live and intense more than ever....
In 2006, I had established an organization, which is working to rescue and rehabilitate trafficked girls and helping communities to lift themselves out of poverty through education, training and supportive livelihoods.
I have started a fund raising to ask for your contribution. You can help us in liberating women in slavery and those who are desperately in need of support as

Righteousness Righteous are those who believe in God, the Last Day, the angels, the scriptures, and the prophets; and they give the money, cheerfully, to the relatives, the orphans, the needy, the traveller, the beggars, and to free slaves ... [𝑆𝑢𝑟𝑎ℎ 𝑎𝑙 𝑏𝑎𝑞𝑎𝑟𝑎ℎ 2: 177]

Freeing slaves and captives is your religious obligation

Visit here to make your contribution https://milaap.org/fundraisers/ramadan2019
As per reports, the anti-trafficking squad of the DCW raided a place in Jhunjhunu of Rajasthan and rescued the minor girl after her family sought their intervention. The 16-year-old minor girl is pregnant and has been brought to Delhi.

Father of the minor girl, a resident of Lathikata of Sundergarh, alleged that his daughter was sold-off to one Pawan Agarwal and Kisan Agarwal of Rajasthan two years back. Moreover, the relatives sold the girl without the knowledge of family, alleged the girl’s father.

“My relatives had sold my daughter to Pawan Agarwal and Kisan Agarwal of Rajasthan after kidnapping her. Following this, I lodged a police complaint at Lathikata. But the local police did not take any action. In January, I had approached the Delhi Commission for Women to rescue my daughter,” said the girl’s father.
interrogation of Maya Sathwara and her accomplice Prakash Marathi.
Isanpur police on Monday arrested one more accused involved in the human trafficking racket case from Bapunagar area. The accused has been identified as Prakash Marathi, a resident of Bapunagar who operates an auto rickshaw in the city.

It was revealed during the police investigation that Marathi and Maya Sathwara used to run the entire racket.

Marathi used to kidnap girls from different parts of the city in his auto and used to hand them over to Maya, who would later sell them in different areas of the country. It was also revealed during the investigation that in the kidnapping of the girls, Marathi was helped by another auto driver identified as Mahesh. For kidnapping the girls, both men used to get a cut from Maya. The police have been able to arrest Marathi from his house in Bapunagar area while the search for Mahesh is still on.

Saurabh Tolabiya, DCP Zone 6, said, "By interrogating Maya, we have found out that the accused have been involved in five human trafficking cases until now. However, we suspect that they are involved in more such cases, which will be revealed after further investigation. Our priority was to nab Marathi in the matter, which we did and his interrogation should reveal more details." Senior police officials suspect that around 50 more girls have been victims of the racket. Cops have sent teams to Kheda, Dakor and Bhavnagar where the girl was sold, to get more information from the families to whom she was sold to. Regarding the cases of five other kidnapped girls, cops have started investigating and are trying to contact the girls for further investigation.

Maya was selling girls for Rs 2 lakh

According to the police, after the girls were kidnapped, Maya used to give them some injections and liquor to keep them intoxicated. Meanwhile, she used to make fake documents for the girls such as aadhar card, voter id, etc and used to change their name. Later, posing as an agent or a family member of the girl, she used to get them married off to people in Kheda, Dakor and Bhavnagar, for which she used to charge money.

A few days after the marriage, she used to take the girls back from the family and later, sell them to a new family. When members of the family where the girl had initially been married off to, would come searching for the bride, she used to say that the girl has fled and she is also searching for her. She used the same modus operandi everywhere, and used to give a percentage to her partners Marathi and Mahesh.

18-year-old girl busted racket

In January 2017, an 18-year-old victim who had been kidnapped, managed to return to her family in Ahmedabad. She narrated the entire incident in front of the police about how she was sold thrice over by Maya to different families in Dakor, Kheda and Bhavnagar. In front of the family from Bhavnagar, the girl revealed the truth about Maya and narrated the entire incident. After that, the Bhavnagar family took her to Ahmedabad and found her parents.

They were arrested from a house in Mailardevpally, while the wedding-ceremonies were still going on.

Among the four arrested, one was a Sudanese, who was the 'groom', and the other three, all residents of Hyderabad, served as marriage brokers and witnesses to the 'nikah.

The 31-year-old Sudanese, Wail Mohammed, had paid Rs. 1L to Habib the agent, for the 'bride', for a three-month contract marriage.

The wedding was subsequently organized at a house in Roshan Colony, Vattepally (Mailardevpally), Monday.

The SOT got a whiff of the same and inspected the house, where they found the contract marriage was already underway.

Wail, Jahanuma-resident Habeeb, Shamem and Shabana were subsequently nabbed and cops also seized Wail's passport, two fake marriage agreements, one stamp pad, Rs. 1.1 lakh cash and $300.

Contract marriages aren't a new thing in the old city of Hyderabad.

It's rather a pretty prevalent practice, involving 'agents', who are city residents and Gulf nationals, who arrive in India on visit visa. These parties lure poor families and convince them to marry off their daughters against a huge sum.

Trend
After the 'nikah' gets done, the new helpless and hapless 'bride' is trafficked out of the country on forged documents arranged by the agent.

The joint efforts of MP’s Ashok Nagar police and Puri police helped locating the woman along with her handicapped girl child. After her arrival at the Puri railway platform at about 11am on Tuesday by the Ajmeer-Puri express, she straightway moved to the Sadar police station for appearance along with her parents. After a preliminary interrogation, she was asked by the police to go home and reappear on Wednesday for a detailed grilling. Inspector General (Central) Saumendra Priyadarshi was relaxed after her rescue. Priyadarshi was one who had immediately ordered the Puri police to expedite the search operation and to be in touch with the MP police.

Puri SP Sarthak Sararngi said the victim was already under supervision of the Ashok Nagar police, after a request was made from his side. “I talked to SP, Ashok Nagar, personally and requested him to rescue the lady. Then the jurisdictional police rescued her and sent her to Puri,” said Sarangi.

The woman narrated her ordeal by the MP man whom she was sold off and showed some injury spots from her leg to neck. She said after interference of police and the local sarpanch, accused Dhusa Singh who had kept her a captive, sent her to Puri. He booked a ticket for her paying her handicapped daughter Rs 100, said Daudi who had not eaten anything throughout a long journey till arrival at Puri. She said Dusha was beating her every day after he knew her of being a mother of four children. He didn’t accept her even after a forcible marriage and asked her to return Rs 55,000. “One day, I ran out of home when I saw police van in the village. I lost the van as some neighbouring women dragged me into house,” said Daudi exposing a racket behind her trafficking which is operating in Puri. Notably, on October 14, Aru Mallick of Brahmagiri had lodged a complaint with the Puri sadar police that at a cost of Rs 55,000, his daughter Daudi had been sold off to one Dhusa Singh of Janata village near the Ashok Nagar railway station of MP.

A spokesman of Haryana Police said that these arrests were made following a complaint lodged at Women Police Station, Faridabad by a member of Child Welfare Council, Suman on January 28.

He said it was two years ago that a minor girl was sold by her maternal grandmother to a person Surinder for Rs 4,000.

Surinder brought the girls to his office where he allegedly sexually harassed her and then left her at someone’s residence as a domestic help. Now about 15 days ago, Mani Mishra, a friend of Surinder brought the girl to Faridabad and raped her several times by threatening her.

He also beat her and snatched Rs 30,000 which the girl had received as her wages for working as a domestic help. Therefore, the girl was admitted to Government Badshah Khan Hospital in Faridabad where she was medically examined and is still admitted there and undergoing treatment.

The spokesman said a special team of the crime branch Sector 30, police station, Faridabad, led by Inspector Sandeep Mor nabbed Surinder from the area of Police Station Surajkund on February 2. The accused was handed over to the team of ACP Puja Dabla for further investigation.

Surinder has admitted that he used to purchase girls from his neighbouring villages and sell them to Mani Mishra and members of his family for Rs 15,000 to Rs 20,000. They used to supply these girls in the National Capital Region and Faridabad to work as domestic help.

Surinder has admitted that he and Mani Mishra had sexually harassed the victim several times. Surinder disclosed during his interrogation while Mani Mishra and members of his family live in a house, the girls are kept in a separate house. Surinder had also engaged a care taker namely Arun to look after these girls.

The court held that “no sympathy” should be shown to the girl’s father, a resident of Khola village, and slapped a fine of Rs 15,000 on him on Monday.

The court order comes just days after the Supreme Court ruled that sexual intercourse between a man and his wife below 18 years of age will count as rape and the husband can face up to 10 years’ imprisonment under the IPC or even a life term under the POCSO Act. The apex court had also said that child marriages should be declared void and stringent punishment should be prescribed against family members who promote and perform such marriages.

In this case, the court in Almora has awarded the father of the minor bride life imprisonment under Sections 120B (criminal conspiracy) and 370 (4) (trafficking a minor) of the Indian Penal Code. He was also awarded rigorous imprisonment of two years under Section 10 of the Prohibition of Child Marriage Act, 2006. All sentences will run concurrently, the court said.

The husband of the underage bride, a resident of Aligarh in UP, was also awarded rigorous imprisonment of 10 years under Section 370 (4) of the IPC and rigorous imprisonment of 10 years under Section 120B of the IPC. Under Section 10 of the Prohibition of Child Marriage Act, 2006, he was awarded rigorous imprisonment of two years. His sentences will run concurrently and a fine of Rs 15,000 has also been imposed on him.

The grandmother of the minor, meanwhile, has been awarded rigorous imprisonment of 10 years under Section 370 (4) of the IPC and rigorous imprisonment of 10 years under Section 120B of the IPC. She has been slapped with a fine of Rs 10,000.

Four others, including family members and people from the village, have also been awarded a 10-year jail term each while three people were acquitted of all charges. Police had registered a case against 10 people in February after receiving a complaint about a child marriage being conducted in Khola village.

Taking a tough stand on the matter, sessions judge Gyanendra Kumar Sharma said that the convicts had ruined the life of a girl child. “In this case, I am of the view that the crime committed by the convicts is not a crime against any individual alone, but against society, which affects the grass root level of society in general and the few socially and economically backward areas of Uttarakhand in particular,” the order said.

The order further said, “The court considers there should be no sympathy with the father of the victim, who has arranged the marriage of a 13 years 7 months old girl child with a man of 38 years. In my opinion, the maximum punishment prescribed by law under Section 370 (4), IPC should be awarded to the convict, because it was his volition act to solemnize the marriage of his daughter (sic).”

The court also observed that the fine imposed on the convicts may not be sufficient for compensation and rehabilitation of the victim. The case has been recommended to the District Legal Services Authority, Almora, so that it can determine the compensation amount which would be kept as a fixed deposit in the name of the girl.

BHOPAL: Arrest of an absconder, who was involved in child trafficking, is a grim reminder of presence of traffickers within and outside the state.

The man arrested by by Avadhpuri police on Thursday, identified as Santosh Shinde, 45, is a resident of Kolar. He fled from Ayodhya Nagar police station in January 2015. The man was arrested for his alleged involvement in trafficking of minor girls from Bhopal to Rajgarh and Narsinhgarh. Once the lid was off his acts, he went to Gandhinagar and Nagpur, stayed there for two years and came back to Bhopal only recently.

Though he was inactive for last two years, his arrest points to a network of child traffickers, who are moving across the cities, eyeing vulnerable minors.

The racket works in a particular way in which girls and boys are trafficked for prostitution, marriages, labour and sometimes are even sold in foreign countries.

A source said, "The code for trafficking of girls among agents is "maal supply'. These agents get order either from the state or from Rajasthan, Haryana, Delhi, Maharashtra and Goa. Traffickers keep a watch on vulnerable minors. The moment they get "order", they send a girl to person, who gave them demand."

Police are hand in gloves with these traffickers. If hue and cry is made about trafficked child by public, agents return the child to police and if no objection is raised, police prefer to look the other way, a source said.

Bhopal is considered a safe haven for traffickers, who get them here from small towns of the state and sell them in other states. The human traffickers in capital particularly deal in bride trafficking in which girls are sold on the pretext of marriage to states like Rajasthan and Haryana. These girls are repeatedly sold by their buyers and have to face sexual abuse.

Prashant Dubey, a social activist, who is fighting against child trafficking, says agents in the city receive demands from Rajasthan for brides after which they lure the family of the girl and sell them.

The rackets works in a particular way. Families having male members past nubile age, contact agents in Rajasthan who, in turn, contact agents in Bhopal. These agents generally target girls from poor financial background and then lure their family by promising them a good and prosperous life after marriage.

Dubey said, "Once parents of a girl agree, she is taken to Rajasthan for marriage. The girl and his family don't have any right to reject the boy even if they don't like him. But the groom's family can reject them."

"Most of these girls are tribals and dalits, who have to go through a 'shuddhikaran' in Indore, in which they have to attend a religious ceremony, conducted by a priest for a period of eight days. It is only after this, they are eligible to get married to a groom of upper caste," he said.
Surprisingly, it is happening in a state, which has 24 anti-human trafficking units with an annual budget of more than Rs 7 lakh per unit. But still 24 children go missing from MP every day. The number of missing girls is double the number of boys, going State Crime Record Bureau (SCRB) statistics.
In last 10 years, more than 80,000 children went missing in the state. Of these, 82% children were traced. But, 18% are still missing. Traffickers are largely targeting tribal-dominated districts in the state for human trafficking. Tribal districts have maximum number of cases of girls trafficking.
Bharti Sharma, former chairperson of CWC, says, "In every six months, more than 50 children in an age group of 9-12 from Madhya Pradesh are rescued from Delhi. These children are sold by traffickers to agents in Delhi, who send them as domestic help or labourers in small scale industries."
"These children are exploited to the core. They are made to work 16-18 hours every day. They are not given food and beaten up every day. Sometimes, they are sexually assaulted. They are not paid for work," Sharma said
Kondagaon SP Santosh Singh told TOI that the girl was rescued and her condition was fine and hasn't complained of any sort of assault.Singh said that girl's parents had lodged a missing complaint on June 20 at village Kerawahi, suspecting trafficking in the case Kondagaon police constituted a team to trace the missing girl when they found her location at UP.Taking along the parents to identify the girl, the police team travelled to UP at a village called Kaji and rescued her safely on June 28 and brought back to Chhattisgarh on Sunday. The girl in her statement said that after having an argument in the family she absconded form home and was standing at highway near Kanker when the woman Kalpana approached her in a Bolero vehicle, Singh said. She spoke to the girl with sympathy and took her to Odsiha where she met another woman called Tina. They both brought her to Jagdalpur and stayed for two days when the girl expressed need to return home but in stead the women lured her for exertion to see temples at Mathura and took her to UP via train from Raipur. After selling her off to a man and collecting Rs 30,000, the duo returned. The tribal girl informed police about Kalpana and her address after which she was arrested and confessed to the crime while Tina is still at large. She was arrested under Section of 366, 368, 370 and 34 of the IPC.Meanwhile, it is suspected that Kalpana had been acting as conduit for traffickers at other states and might have sent many girls for slavery, marriage and prostitution.
