How Not To Send a Campaign Email

If you're going to send out a campaign email, make sure you do it from your own campaign account. Any other accounts and you can run into some problems, as Chuck Muth's Citizen Outreach Foundation may find out thanks to a recent email from a Nevada state senate candidate.

Richard McArthur is an assemblyman looking to move up, but unfortunately he chose to email the announcement through the above conservative foundation. Since contributions to 501(c)(3) foundations are tax deductible, there are certain rules on what they can and can't do. On the can't list is participating in any campaign on behalf of any candidate. Violate that and the IRS may start breathing down the neck of the organization, with your campaign caught in the crossfire.

They Are Desperate

We already knew that President Obama and his allies have an obsession with Mitt Romney. But their latest plunge into dirty politicking reeks of desperation, proving yet again their willingness to say and do anything to cling to power.

The Obama political machine recently enlisted its close friend, Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick, to help with its latest smear campaign against Mitt.

I responded with the following letter:

Dear Governor Patrick:

As you know, state law strictly prohibits you and your staff from using public resources for political campaign purposes. Under state law, a public employee may not provide services to a candidate or campaign during his or her work hours.

Nonetheless, it is evident that your office has become an opposition research arm of the Obama reelection campaign. The latest example occurred yesterday when your chief legal counsel, Mark Reilly, in the absence of a legitimate public records request, supplied The Boston Globe with copies of cancelled checks from 2006 documenting the lawful purchase of computer equipment by departing members of the Romney administration. This action was nothing more than a weak attempt to disparage practices that you know were in complete compliance with the law.

Given the amount of time your staff is apparently spending to assist the Obama campaign, I request that you provide us with copies of all email correspondence, phone logs, and visitor logs showing contacts that David Axelrod, David Plouffe and Jim Messina have had with you and members of the Executive Office from 2007 to the present.

At a time when unemployment is at unacceptably high levels, both here in Massachusetts and around the country, the people of Massachusetts deserve to know that you are focused on alleviating joblessness - not running a dirty tricks shop for your friend, President Obama.

Re: Potential Boycott of Florida Orange Juice

Gentleman:

Florida is jeopardizing the most important decision we make as Americans every four years, the election of the President of the United States.

By violating Republican National Committee rules and choosing January 31, 2012 for Florida's Presidential Primary, you have created havoc in the Presidential selection process. Florida has gained nothing by moving its primary date forward and will remain the fifth contest. You have caused tremendous disruption and uncertainty in Iowa, New Hampshire, Nevada and South Carolina. Florida would rob voters of one of the most important tools they need to make an informed decision: time.

Voters need time during the coming months to fully vet all eleven serious Republican Presidential candidates. Here's what you should know about what we'll report to the FEC tomorrow:

    -- In the third fundraising quarter of this year, 606,027 people donated to this campaign -- even more than gave in the record-breaking previous quarter.
    -- Those people gave more than 766,000 total donations -- 98 percent of them $250 or less, at an average amount of $56. That's more than twice as many donations than we had at this point in the historic 2008 campaign.
    -- We are focused on building infrastructure that will help us win in 2012. And each quarter we set a combined goal for the campaign and our allies at the Democratic National Committee. We far exceeded our goal of $55 million this quarter between the two organizations.
    -- Together, Obama for America and the DNC raised more than $70 million. And it all happened during a summer when the President was focused on doing the job he was elected to do -- a summer when we had to cancel a series of fundraising events and ask everyone to dig a little deeper.

In recent days, some have said that to get elected President in 2012, you have to veer to the left. Not me, I don't buy it. I believe that America is still a conservative nation and the American people are desperate for a return to the common-sense conservative solutions that once made us flourish. Policies like lower taxes, secure borders, less regulation, and the full repeal of Obamacare are necessary to put our nation back on track and, as President, I won't settle for anything less.

As I've traveled across America advocating for our shared values, I've met thousands of fellow constitutional conservatives who have painted a vivid picture of a great nation in need of a new direction. Your combined voices have shaped and refined my message of less government and more freedom, but a limited amount of time and a lot of ground to cover, it is nearly impossible to speak to every voter, one-on-one. But your voice is important. President Obama: "I will not take no for an answer"

Last night, the American Jobs Act was filibustered by Senate Republicans. There was no vote on the actual bill.

But it would have succeeded: the American Jobs Act has at least 51 votes -- a clear majority -- to pass the Senate. And a new poll shows that 63 percent of Americans support it, too.

Today the President recorded a message he wants you to see, laying out where we go from here in the fight for jobs.

Watch President Obama's video -- and pass it on to anyone you think should see it.

The Republicans who voted yesterday to block this bill weren't thinking about middle-class families. In fact, at last night's GOP debate, one of their leading candidates actually refused to say he'd extend a payroll tax cut that puts more than $1,000 in the pockets of everyday working Americans.

They might believe it's in their political interest to oppose whatever the President proposes for the next 13 months, but we know that when it comes to jobs and restoring economic security, Americans can't afford to wait.

The American Jobs Act would get to work now, providing incentives for businesses to hire unemployed veterans, helping hire tens of thousands of teachers, cops, and firefighters, and rebuilding and modernizing our schools, railways, bridges, and airports. Even though it's fully paid for and made up of proposals both parties have supported, Republicans yesterday said no.

Now the President wants you to hear directly from him about what's next.

It's a bill that will put people to work immediately, and it contains proposals that members of both parties have said in the past that they'd support.

But Senate Republicans want to block it. Not because they have a plan that creates jobs right now -- not one Republican, in Congress or in the presidential race, does. They only have a political plan.

Their strategy is to suffocate the economy for the sake of what they think will be a political victory. They think that the more folks see Washington taking no action to create jobs, the better their chances in the next election. So they're doing everything in their power to make sure nothing gets done.

There's still time for principled Republican senators to declare their independence from this kamikaze political strategy. And the only way it can happen is if they hear from constituents like you today.

Statement on tonight's debate

Tonight, Hanover, NH will be the site of the Washington Post/Bloomberg Republican debate.

Eight candidates will participate, but I regret to inform you that Governor Johnson will not be one of them.

Gary Johnson was the only one of the top Republican contenders not to receive an invitation.

Even former House Speaker Newt Gingrich has acknowledged the absurdity of this situation and is calling for Governor Johnson's participation:

"Fairness requires Gov. Johnson to be included in tomorrow's debate. I encourage Wash Post/Bloomberg to invite him."

A spokesman later added, "When it comes to picking the leader of the free world, we are better off trusting the judgment of the American people, not the whims of the elite media."

In the past, debate organizers have excluded Governor Johnson based on arbitrary polling criteria – despite polling better than other candidates who spent millions more than our campaign.

This time, however, debate organizers have found a new way, more straightforward way to codify the "Gary Johnson Rule."

As Slate's Dave Weigel reports, Governor Johnson isn't being allowed to participate because he hasn't participated in at least three prior debates.

We'll let you decide why three was chosen as the magic number.

The theme of tonight's debate is "the economy." One would think that debate organizers would want on stage one of the most successful and accomplished Governors of the last 50 years.

Instead, it appears that the preference of the Washington Post and Bloomberg is for substance to take a back seat to "style." No wonder our country is currently tumbling toward a double-dip recession.

Gary Johnson is not the conventional candidate for President. He puts issues on the table that should be on the table, setting aside grandstanding and self-aggrandizement.

As those in the media find it fashionable to exclude one of the few voices worth listening to in the GOP field, we harken back to the great words of John Paul Jones, "We have not yet begun to fight."

We will continue to execute our campaign plan in New Hampshire, where a poll this week showed that only 10% of Mitt Romney's supporters say they will "definitely" vote for him.

Though it's been nearly a month since he laid out this plan, House Republicans haven't acted to pass it. And House Majority Leader Eric Cantor is out there actually bragging that they won't even put the jobs package up for a vote -- ever.

It's not clear which part of the bill they now object to: building roads, hiring teachers, getting veterans back to work. They're willing to block the American Jobs Act -- and they think you won't do anything about it.

But here's something you can do: Find Republican members of Congress on Twitter, call them out, and demand they pass this bill.

I will do what's right for American families

Many important issues have come to the forefront of the current campaign for President, most recently focusing on the role of government, abuse of executive power, and crony capitalism -- favoring special interests from those in positions of power to political donors, especially relating to our children's healthcare.

As a mother of three daughters, I believe that parents, in consultation with their doctor and family, should decide whether or not our young women should receive injections for sexually transmitted diseases. These personal decisions are best left between parents and doctors, taking into consideration a child's personal health and family's values.

Whether it's Obamacare or Perrycare, I oppose anyone who mandates a family's healthcare choices and violates the rights of parents, especially if the decision-making process occurs behind closed doors, bypassing legislative action, and favoring campaign contributors over the rights of families. In my opinion, that's just not right.

As President, I want you to know that I will do what's right for American families, and hope that you'll join me in standing for a limited government that respects the right of families to make their own healthcare decisions.

My Memories

A lot of grown men will grow teary-eyed as they tell you touching stories about how their dad first taught them how to fish, play baseball or ride a bike.

Of course, I have fond memories sharing many of those wonderful experiences with my dad.

But today, one of the memories I cherish the most is my dad's hard work instilling in me his love for liberty, limited government and our United States Constitution.

Tomorrow - September 17, 2011 - is Constitution Day. It's the day we celebrate the creation of the document that has done more to limit government power and expand personal liberty than anything else in human history.
