Obama raised 66 million

2008-09-15T12:53:00.001-07:00

It's been a while since I've last written. A whole lot has changed. I am now employed and a father. It's the greatest thing ever and I hope to provide my son the life that my family did for me. I hope he is digital enough to read this later but I cannot epcress the love I have for him.

Obama raised 66 million in August. He raised more money than any other candidate ever has in a one month stretch. At worse case, he can lose and become the richest man in America.

I'm back

2008-06-16T08:21:00.001-07:00

I finally recovered from the painful journey. I'm now working in a dream situation and things couldn't be more opposite of what they were in December.

Tiger forgave, so should I

2008-01-10T16:40:00.000-08:00

Tiger forgave Tilghman, so should all other black people.

If Tiger is fine with it than I am, no more no less. He knows her heart and good people make mistakes. If the potentially offended party is ok than I am. She is no Don Imus and is not known for being racial. She was sincere and professional in her apology and the other black people like Mr. Sharpton need to leave her alone.

This war is actually worse than the one in IRAQ.
Why? Because we have been in this war for more than a decade and the only victors are the politicians who got elected by it's platform. Drugs scare parents and causes them to vote emotionally instead of ensuring the tactics were correct that actually solve the problem, they voted assuming some magical ending. America is fighting the drug war with archaic 1980's techniques. They want to fight this politically as opposed to effectively, similar to the Red Coats fighting the MinuteMen. One could say it's similar to fighting an Urban War with without being familiar with the streets.

Though many on the left suspected that things had gone seriously awry, drug policy under Reagan and Bush was largely conducted in a fog of ignorance. The kinds of long-term studies that policy-makers needed - those that would show what measures would actually reduce drug use and dampen its consequences - did not yet exist. When it came to research, there was "absolutely nothing" that examined "how each program was or wasn't working," says Peter Reuter, a drug scholar who founded the Drug Policy Research Center at the RAND Corp.

But after Escobar was killed in 1993 - and after U.S. drug agents began systematically busting up the Colombian cartels - doubt was replaced with hard data. Thanks to new research, U.S. policy-makers knew with increasing certainty what would work and what wouldn't. The tragedy of the War on Drugs is that this knowledge hasn't been heeded. We continue to treat marijuana as a major threat to public health, even though we know it isn't. We continue to lock up generations of teenage drug dealers, even though we know imprisonment does little to reduce the amount of drugs sold on the street. And we continue to spend billions to fight drugs abroad, even though we know that military efforts are an ineffective way to cut the supply of narcotics in America or raise the price. All told, the United States has spent an estimated $500 billion to fight drugs - with very little to show for it.

Political Impatience

The media is covering Hillary very aggressively. I can see how she could have a moment of weakness and honesty.

In my opinion, they would be a good team.

HD vs BlueRay

2008-01-05T15:44:00.000-08:00

Both will survive due to the video game industry.

"
Warner did not have to defect to Blue Ray because there will be large consumers of both formats due to the Video Game Industry. XBox uses the HD format and the PlayStation III uses Blue Ray.

Why does everyone care about Iowa so much?

2008-01-05T15:31:00.000-08:00

Congrats to Obama and Huckabee on their Iowa victories. It interesting how big of a deal the media makes this. There is no tangible reason why Iowa is important. Iowa gets so much attention because it is the first primary of many. I personally would not think that makes a big deal but politics ride on the bandwagon. Momentum can carry a politician and Iowa is the grand opening.

Faith and Football

2008-01-03T12:51:00.000-08:00

Everyone faces difficult moments in their lives. Right now is one my most challenging since becoming a professional over ten years ago. One of my greatest fears career wise has been that of having my employment terminated. Now that I am in the midst of it, I've come to realize that I am going to aggressively recover from this situation.

This temporary setback allowed me to refocus and I am now on the verge of the comeback. This is a very difficult situation personally, but there are two things besides family that are keeping my spirits high during this ordeal: My faith and the sport of football.

Football is a sport that full of cliches. Coaches have a clever phrase to use for just about any situation. Those phrases and thoughts become embedded in all football player's subconscious when heard so many times. What coaches don't tell you is how those statements apply to life and not just the playing field. Football teaches you how to persevere. It teaches how to overcome obstacles and deal with pain. Football forces you to struggle so that you can make overcoming a skill. In essence, it gives one the ability to overcome all of life's obstacles by not quitting or giving up. To endure takes courage, strength and desire. Those are the key ingredients to football and they also provide one the ability to succeed after failure. Life is like being on the one yard line. Either you score or you don't score on that play. You can fail many times on the goal line but sooner or later your desired outcome will manifest. Just as long as your can endure for the next goal line opportunity. I will endure until then and score when it's my time.

Faith is the other critical component. If one doesn't believe great things can happen, then nothing great will ever happen. People can draw their faith from many areas, but a majority get theirs from having a spiritual life. Religion is the most common source of faith. I'm not here to preach, but I would like to share where I get mine from and why I believe as I do.

My faith is Christianity and comes from believing in Jesus. I believe in him and I know that if I live my life right, everything will work out in the end. That is not an easy thought for some to believe in. I am an engineer and scientist which makes these types of claims extremely difficult to believe in because there is no scientific proof. For those moments of weakness or extreme scientific times I can still find peace thru Jesus. He sacrificed and suffered more than Gandhi, MLK, Malcolm X, and William Wallace combined. If believing in God gave him the ability to endure what he dealt with then that same strength can more than help me endure my daily life. My belief is both spiritual and humanistic meaning that I view Jesus as a spirit and as the greatest man to walk on this Earth.

Gangsta Rap made me do it

2008-01-03T11:44:00.000-08:00

Many people don't know that Ice Cube, the family movie guy, was the forefather of Gansta Rap. It was his writing that came explosively delivered by the rap group NWA. He was the creative genius behind them and changed music forever. He has an song about the stigma assoicated with the music he established a genre with.

You have to cry before you can smile

2008-01-01T11:53:00.000-08:00

Everyone in life goes through struggle. To endure after tragedy takes courage. The more failures one overcomes the stronger their character becomes. The human capacity grows from pain and distress. The gentleman discussed here has reached greatness in football despite being cut 4 times. Camptrotter always says you have to cry before you can smile. Grin big James, it's now your time and the pain you endured is what got you here.
He totally destroys a fan in the video above.

Think and Grow Rich

2007-12-31T14:48:00.000-08:00

I just completed this book.
In the last few weeks I have also read, The Richest Man in Babylon and Rich Dad Poor Dad.
This book was different in terms of style. It's basically about 13 concepts of self preparation that should lead to financial success. The best way to describe it as a cross between and self help/motivational book combined with personal finance. The concepts discussed are faith, desire, motivation, effort, etc etc. The combination of all of these aspects will lead you to financial success. Basically the book gets the reader to make a financial plan, and provides counterpoints for any doubts as to why the plan will not work. Pretty Solid book and worth the time if you ask me.

The Black Boilerplate treatment

2007-12-31T14:20:00.000-08:00

The media covered the Sean Taylor tragedy horrendously.

Honestly, if the redskins contigent (Gibbs, Snyder, Cerratto, Williams) would not have spoke so highly of him, the media would be insulting him instead of saying he was unknown.

Academic Anabolics

It seems like the a the intellectual community is vulnerable to the same virus infecting Major League Baseball. Athletes and academics alike have been taking performance enhancing substances. ADD medication seams to bring the mind to some unforeseen level of focus and precision like steroids and HGD does for athletes.

The True Martyr

2007-12-27T14:02:00.000-08:00

My definition of a martyr is one who gives up their life because of belief in their cause. Those that take their lives for a cause is a coward. The term is appropriate because anyone who choses not to live through obstacles of life deserves no accolades.
This is the difference between Benazir Bhutto and the coward suicide bomber that took her life. True martyrs die in battle as Ms. Bhutto did. She chose to come back to Pakistan after exile despite the threat to her person. She chose not to flee even after the first assassination attempt in October. She was a true warrior and may she rest in peace. Now the terrorist based nuclear Pakistan's chances for a democracy have been severely mitigated.

And then it hit me

2007-12-27T10:25:00.001-08:00

A snippet from a great OurW post!

"When my sister said not to buy her anything, it really hit me. I failed to provide this Christmas. I can only imagine the devastation my unborn would feel if I couldn't provide on the biggest Holiday of the year. I will never let this happen again, I promise that. I will not allow myself to be in such a vulnerable state ever again. A setback is a setup for a comeback and mine will be greater than anything Elway ever did I kid you not."

Implausible Deniability

2007-12-20T11:00:00.000-08:00

It looks like our President is playing the game of deniability.
We all know that he was aware of what happened to the tapes.
The key is that his knowledge is not official, and therefore we cannot place any official blame on him. So does that mean the President does not have control of his staff? That is what looks like.

Snoop's new song

2007-12-19T19:24:00.000-08:00

Snoop's new song sounds similar to a T-pain type track.
The song is very catchy and should do well. What's more intriguing
is how long Snoop is waiting to release the album. Four months from single to album is a long time. I think this will allow him to release more songs for the album than previously.

Transition Training

2007-12-17T16:10:00.000-08:00

I spent a greater part of today in job transition training. It was a service paid for by my previous employer. The class was quite helpful actually. It was provided by DB Associates. They spent the first part doing introductions and then got down to work. Basically we determined what our skills were from a list and how much we enjoyed doing that skill. This would help determine what job are most suitable. We also created a list of accomplishments to be transferred into resume aspects. They had a lists of jobs and functions to choose from. I always wondered where the professional resume writers got their words from. All of these will help craft a fine resume. The final thing I learned today is that there are several resume styles. The most popular is the self explanatory chronological type. Another kind, which I may quickly adopt, is a functional type. This resume style lists job functions and highlights diverse backgrounds.
