Pennsylvania’s 3rd District was the site of a close race between incumbent Republican Phil English and Democratic challenger Kathy Dahlkemper. In a rare occurrence, Dahlkemper was able to knock off English, thus defeating a male incumbent in a traditionally conservative area. I enjoyed following the race and, in particular, witnessing the debate between the two candidates that was held here at Allegheny. On Election Night, I spent the evening at Kathy Dahlkemper’s election headquarters. As a student fellow with Allegheny’s Center for Political Participation, I interviewed her and our group took a lot of video. We plan to create a mini-documentary about Dahlkemper’s rise from private citizen to a member of the U.S. Congress.
