<title>The Glassy-Winged Sharpshooter: Threat to California Agriculture</title>
<link>http://www.uctv.tv/search-details.aspx?showID=6899</link>
<description>California's multi-billion dollar agriculture industry is threatened by a new insect pest. The glassy-winged sharpshooter feeds on a wide variety of ornamental and crop plants, but it is of particular concern to the grape industry. The insect spreads Xylella fastidiosa, the bacterium that spreads Pierce's disease. Pierce's disease kills grapevines and there are no effective treatments for it. UC researchers describe what is at stake and the steps that are being taken to combat the problem.
