Povetkin Beats Marco Huck

Alexander Povetkin retains his "regular" WBA Heavyweight title with a tight points win over Marco Huck. Surprisingly, Huck pushed Povetkin to the absolute limit and at times had Povetkin wondering what planet he was on, landing powerful single shots while Povetkin was bending forward with his head looking at the canvas. Marco Huck's punches were thrown wide and his boxing was wild. Similar to a bar room brawl at times, and he was fighting very dirty. He was basically fouling in most of the rounds by holding Povetkins head down and hitting him behind the head. Shockingly, the referee never even took a point, or even made much of a fuss about it.

Both fighters left everything in the ring. Povetkin was completely gassed out, early on too, which was unexpected beings as he's used to fighting much bigger and heavier fighters. This was probably due to Huck making Povetkin fight out of his comfort zone. This was a very physical fight and it did not matter how fit both were, they were going to be exhausted fighting at that kind of pace.

Excellent fight and a superb effort by Huck, but the cleaner work came from Povetkin and the decision resembled that. This was the toughest fight of Povetkin's career no doubt. Povetkin was glad to hear the final bell and had to be held up and then put on to a stool to rest. Super tired! He came very close to losing his title. I think Povetkin was shocked at the power of Huck as well, which he carried up to heavyweight nicely. Huck could mix at heavyweight, although his boxing skills need some more work.

Marco Huck weighed in at 95 KG, which is considerably heavier then he's ever weighed when in "fighting shape". Obviously because he's never fought as heavyweight before, but this means his body is not used to carrying this extra weight (around 5 KG) and the chances are he will tire badly late in the fight. Many people thought he might come in just slightly heavier then the cruiser weight limit, maybe around 91 - 92 KG, but that's not the case. It should be an all action fight. Marco Huck Vs Alexander Povetkin

Marco Huck, the WBO Cruiser Weight Champion, is moving up to the heavyweight division to take on Alexander Povetkin for the fake WBA title. I say fake because the real WBA title is held by Wladimir Klitschko. The "Fake" WBA belt is what the organisation is calling it's "regular" champion, and the real WBA belt holder is classed as the "Super" champion..Where's the sense in that? - Good question.

With all that said, and forgetting about what title is on the line, this is a very good fight. Marco Huck is jumping straight up to Heavyweight and taking on one of best fighters in the division. This is a very risky thing to do. Marco Huck should of had one or two fights at heavyweight against mediocre opposition. If he was taking on any other world class Heavyweight, himself, his trainers, and everyone involved would know full well that a few warm up fights would be part of the process.

The reason Huck is jumping straight into the deep end with this fight is because Huck and Povetkin have history. The pair used to spar together and Marco Huck has said that he used to school Povetkin. If this is true, and Marco Huck used to get the upper hand in sparring, will it really matter now? This sparring took place at least a few years ago and Povetkin has improved immensely over the last year or two. And we don't actually know if Povetkin was taking it easy on Huck, holding back on the power, or even working on certain moves while sparring. Are these sparring sessions giving Huck a false sense of security? Most probably yes.

If Huck can't get an early night knockout he will feel the weight difference between fighting a Cruiser Weight and fighting a natural Heavyweight as the fight goes into the later rounds. Has he prepared for this, or will his stamina cost him the fight. We will see on Saturday night.

Povetkin has good boxing skills, good power, and good stamina for a Heavyweight. Huck has good power and much faster hands..Marco Huck will start off really fast and sharp, and Povetkin will bide his time for a few rounds until Huck tires, then Povetkin will, or should, take over this fight. Povetkin has a good engine, he gets stronger as the fight goes into the later rounds, where as Huck, by that time, should be feeling the pace from facing the naturally heavier man.

Marco Huck could be catching Povetkin at a vulnerable time. Povetkins Trainer, Teddy Atlas has not been in Russia for the training camp because of other commitments. So Povetkin has had to train without his main man. We will have to wait and see whether this has a negative effect on Povetkin's performance. Looking for the weigh-in? Click here.

Although this fight will be a great occassion in Belfast, it's not really the fight people want to see. Everyone wanted Tyson Fury Vs David Price but it's never going to happen. In a few Tyson Fury interviews he stated that Martin Rogan was of no use to him inside a boxing ring because he was too old and too slow. Fury was convinced Rogan was just looking for his last big pay day. Now, Fury has totally changed his tune, stating that Rogan's a good fighter who comes to fight and will be a tough test.

Tyson Fury has said that fighting David Price makes no sense because Price isn't rated very high in the world rankings yet. So where is Martin Rogan rated then? He's nowhere to be seen. The only excuse for Tyson Fury not stepping up in class is that he has only had 17 fights, so is still quite inexperienced as a professional. But then again so is Dereck Chisora and he's just give Vitali Klitschko a run for his money.

This fight will be boring and is a step backwards for Fury. But I guess it's more about the dollars. Martin Rogan will be dangerous for a few rounds but after that this fight will be a hold and hug love affair. Martin Rogan's no spring chicken now at 40 years old, and add to that, his last fight was in 2010 against Werner Kreiskott (8-14-1) and that fight went to a points win for Rogan.

This is a good opportunity for Rogan. I hope he's still got one huge fight left inside himself, and he gives Fury his hardest fight to date.

Bad words have been getting exchanged for quite a while between David Haye and Dereck Chisora. But when David Haye turned up at the post press conference after Chisora's loss to Vitali Klitschko things got a bit out of hand. Needless to say, we could be seeing a fight between David Haye and Dereck Chisora in the near future. This is good publicity if the pair do end up fighting, but this is not good for boxing as a sport. See pictures of the Haye - Chisora brawl. These two are not good role models for boxing - If you want real role models look at the Klitschko brothers. Both have showed superb self control through out this whole fight process, the build up, the fight, and post fight.

To the shock of many, Chisora goes the distance against Vitali Klitschko and actually gives a decent account of himself. Chisora was on the front foot for most of the fight, trying to take Vitali out of his comfort zone. He did manage to catch Vitali a few times during the fight with his bobbing, weaving, then hooking style, but Vitali's experience and awkward style saved him from any further punishment, and he was able to tie up or spin out of trouble. Vitali didn't quite look himself tonight. Not sure if that was just the way the two boxing styles gelled together or whether Vitali is starting to show his age now at 40 years old.

Chisora's attitude before and after the fight was disgraceful. Other then slapping Vitali at the weigh in, He also squared up to Vitali when the pair were meant to embrace at the end of the fight. Wladimir was also having words with Chisora and his camp. Chisora spat water from his mouth into Wladimir's face before the fight started. Personally I'm glad Chisora didn't win and I only wish he would have been knocked out for his disgraceful antics through out the build up to this fight.

Both fighters seemed to be in good spirits after the final press conference, and I think they actually quite like each other as mostly all their meetings have been like this. Don't think that this fight is going to be a friendly sparring match though. This will be an exciting fight. The WBC title is on the line and Vitali's not going to give that up without one heck of a fight.

I do think that Chisora is slightly deluded thinking that Vitali's scared of him, which is something that Chisora has been saying in many of his interviews. I'm not sure why he thinks that but I believe it has something to do with Wladimir pulling out of their arranged fight because of an injury. Personally, I don't think neither of the Klitschko brothers are scared of Chisora one bit. But I guess it makes Chisora feel like he has an edge over them. Maybe that's what he needs to get himself in the zone in order put on his best performance ever. Still, many doubt that it will be enough to win on Saturday night. But a good performance will no doubt raise his profile and that's a good consolation when tasting defeat. That and a nice pay-check!.

Tyson Fury Vacates His Titles

British Heavyweight Tyson Fury has vacated both his British and Commonwealth titles rather then take on the fighter who everyone wants to see him face, David Price. Negotiations are said to have fallen through between the two camps, but many believe that Tyson Fury just doesn't want to fight David Price because he knows he would lose. It's a very high risk fight for Fury. David Price has beaten Tyson Fury once before in the Amateurs, so it's not without reason that people think Tyson is dodging this fight. Also, with some of the interviews Tyson Fury has done, when asked about David Price it does look as if Tyson's slightly rattled, coming out with many excuses why he shouldn't fight David Price. The truth of it is, boxing fans want to see this fight, and with both fighters having under 20 fights on their record this seems like the perfect time to have an all British Heavyweight match up.

Tyson Fury is claiming he's on the Klitschko's tail and fighting David Price makes no sense, but does anyone really believe that Fury, with 17 professional fights under his belt, and looking terrible in his last few fights, is anywhere near ready or good enough to fight and beat one of the Klitschko's.. I think even his most die-hard fans would say No Way!

David Price destroyed John McDermott in 1 round on his last outing, a fighter that Fury had way more trouble with, specially in their first meeting which ended in a controversial points win for Fury. Could this also be one of the reasons why Fury is steering clear of David Price.

David Price will now be fighting Sam Sexton for the two titles vacated by Tyson Fury.

The best heavyweight in the world puts the best title in the world on the line on Feb 18th. Vitali Klitschko Vs Dereck Chisora, is it a mis-match? I don't think so. We all know that Chisora comes to fight so it should be an entertaining fight at the very least. I think Vitali knows full well he's going to destroy Chisora. In all the interviews he has been bigging Chisora up non stop and I think he's doing that so when he knocks Chisora out it looks like a spectacular victory. But the truth is, even at 40 years old, Vitali is well aware he will demolish Chisora no problem.

Dereck Chisora is made for Vitali, and Chisora's "come forward in straight lines" style is perfect for Vitali to look good against. Vitali Klitschko is huge, and for such a big guy he has the best movement and sense of distance in the heavyweight division. He is so good that he can actually stay in punching range, block or slip his opponents punches, and pummel the opponent with his own shots. He is very impressive for such a giant of a man, and I believe he could have held his own in any era of heavyweight boxing.

Recent video footage has come to light showing an unknown man engaging with one of the judges at the Khan Vs Peterson fight. This judge was the WBA Official. The unknown man was definitely looking at the judges scorecard. No one is allowed to talk to the judges during a fight, so why was this man talking to the judge and looking at his scorecard. This is suspicious. One of the judges scorecards had numbers crossed out in one of the rounds and a new score was added..Was this just a mistake by the judge, George Hill, or was the scorecard tampered with.

In some ways it can be said that Amir Khan has took this loss very hard and he is looking for any excuse to get an instant rematch, or find some kind of justification as to why he lost. In all honesty, I think Peterson, with the 2 point deduction because of Khan's constant pushing, done enough to get the win. But it does seem strange that this mystery man, who has not yet been named, was even allowed to be that involved with the judge and his scorecard. Apparently the mystery man was some kind of IBF official, but if that is the case then why has it been so difficult to identify him..

I should add, there is also photo evidence (guy standing on the left wearing the hat) of this mystery man celebrating in Peterson's corner after the decision was announced.

Carl Froch and Andre Ward will fight it out tomorrow night to see who is crowned the Super Six Tournament winner. Not only is the Super Six cup on the line, but also the Ring Magazine Belt, the WBA, and the WBC Super Middleweight titles are on the line. This fight really is too close to call. Both boxers have world class skills and this tournament alone has proved that. Froch and Ward are very different fighters though. Froch does have good boxing skills but prefers to have a toe to toe war, where as Andre Ward prefers to box but can mix it up if he needs to. Andre Ward is the superior boxer but Carl Froch does have more power and more experience at world level on the professional boxing stage.

There has been a lot of talk from both Froch and Ward, most of it has been about each others power. Froch has been saying that Ward is going to get knocked out because he can't take the power he possesses. Froch has also been saying that Ward can't knock him out because he has no power. I believe that this talk has gotten under Wards skin and he's sick of hearing people, specially Carl Froch say he's got no power. I think Andre Ward is going for the knockout on Saturday night, and with his excellent boxing ability and fast hands I think he's got a good change of getting a stoppage. Even if Froch is not so much hurt but just overwhelmed. Ward wants to prove to Froch, and everyone else, that he does have some pop in his punches.

Whoever wins this fight not only gets all the titles and wins the tournament, but will also be considered as the best super middleweight in the world.

As tough as Froch is, I'm going for Andre Ward by knockout. May the best man win.

Lamont Peterson Beats Amir Khan

This was an excellent, all action fight. However, as close as it was, I thought Peterson did do enough to secure the win. He was pushing the action in a lot of the rounds and a big percentage of the meaningful punches were coming from Peterson. I think Khan has shown a weakness in this fight, and that is when he's put under pressure he has a hard time. Khan needs distance to be successful, without that distance he struggles with his inside game, which is close to non-existent.

Khan was disrespectful after the fight blaming the referee and also saying that Peterson was given the fight because it was his hometown etc, but the truth is Khan was warned for pushing and even had a point taken away, but he still continued to push. He only has himself to blame. Saying that, credit to both fighters, they left it all in the ring and yes, it was a close fight, but I think the right man got the decision. No doubt there will be a rematch.

Was watching this review video of the fight and I tend to agree with him.

There is a lot of talk going around at the moment that David Haye is coming out of retirement to fight Vitali Klitschko this spring. Many reports are claiming that this fight is already definitely happening and the only thing left to sort out is who will get what in terms of money splits.

This is a wise move by the Klitschko brothers, they know that David Haye still has huge selling power and they want another opportunity to cash in on it before it's too late. David Haye is already in light training for the fight and it was confirmed that Haye was sparring with George Groves and was completely knackered after just two rounds. But, I think it's safe to say that Haye was in retire mode and probably wasn't training at all.

Can David Haye beat Vitali?

Anything is possible. Vitali is much more willing to stay in the pocket and trade punches with his opponents. So Haye could have better chances to land punches then he did against the very clever but very cautious Wladimir. Saying that, even at 40 years old I still think Vitali is too mobile and far too skilled to lose to David Haye. Not to mention his power and iron chin. It should be interesting though, specially if Haye adopts the same "backing off and waiting for a counter punch" tactics that he did all night against Wladimir. I don't think Vitali will stand off and have the patience that Wladimir had. Vitali will get involved and this will lead to an exciting fight.

Did Marquez Beat Pacquiao

Marquez had obviously done his homework for Pacquiao on Saturday night. This could have a lot to do with him fighting Pacquiao twice previously and knowing what to prepare for. It was a close fight but Marquez had Pacquiao timed perfectly for a lot of the rounds, and it was clear to everyone except the three judges scoring the fight that most of the rounds were definitely Marquez rounds. Some rounds were very close but even by scoring the close rounds to Pacquiao, Marquez still won the fight by a couple of rounds.

Most of the crowd were furious at this shocking result, some even threw bottles at the ring. Sports writers, boxers, commentators, all were surprised by the result. I think even Manny Pacquiao, deep down, knew he had lost. Even Freddy Roach knew Pacquiao had lost, stating that Marquez deserved a rematch. Can it get any clearer that the whole world barr some Pacman fans and the three judges thought Marquez won this fight. Amir Khan even said that he couldn't believe that Manny won that fight and that he had Marquez winning.

Personally I think Marquez won that fight and I'm not a Manny hater or anything. I think he's a great fighter. But he did lose that fight. Should there be an immediate rematch?

George Groves Knocks Out Paul Smith

George Groves makes short work of Paul Smith, catching him with a flush punch to the jaw line that sent him reeling to the canvas. Smith showed heart by getting up, but Groves landed a glancing shot to the head of the already wobbled Smith and the fight was called to a halt in the second round. Paul Smith had an excellent first round. He was catching Groves with some very good counter punches and it looked as if this fight would be long and quite evenly matched. In all fairness it did have the potential to be, but Groves caught Smith with a perfect punch from which he never fully recovered from. A very impressive win for Groves. I bet James Degale wasn't happy.

Ricky Burns Dominates Katsidis

Ricky Burns takes the scalp of of another top class, world rated fighter. Although some of the rounds were tight, Ricky Burns sealed a convincing victory over the tough, all action Aussie warrior.

Credit goes to Katsidis, he always comes to fight and this match was no exception. He had Burns rocked a number of times but Burns showed that he can take punches from a hard hitter and still come back fighting. Anyone fighting Katsidis will have problems, mainly because of his mauling, in your face style, he really gives his opponents no room to move or set themselves.

Skys the limit for Burns right now. He has been under rated by many people, and hopefully his win over Katsidis should make people sit up and take notice. He can mix in world class there's no doubt about it. And I must say, listening to how grounded he is in his interviews I really wish him all the best, it couldn't have happened to a nicer guy. It's hard not to like him.

This win will now see Ricky Burns get the chance to face some of the best fighters in the world at his weight class. The name Marquez has been mentioned. Marquez will be one hell of a mountain to climb. Marquez's skill level is right up there with Paquiao. And even now, with Marquez being a veteran, he is still very very skilled. He still completely lives for boxing and hasn't lost much of his skill or sharpness due to always staying super disciplined. But saying that, I believe Ricky Burns could be catching Marquez at the right time, if they do end up fighting.

But James Toney still has some of the slick skills he had from his younger days. Questions marks are there because of how old Toney now is, but he looks in the best shape he's been in for quite some time for this fight so don't count him out. James Toney in shape is a tough nights work for anyone his own size. Tough one to call..Lebedev on points.
