TV on the Radio Bassist Gerard Smith Dies of Lung Cancer

Smith’s work can be heard on three of the group’s latest albums, including “Nine Types of Light,” just released last week. The band canceled several upcoming shows in light of the tragic news and posted this statement: “We are very sad to announce the death of our beloved friend and bandmate, Gerard Smith, following a courageous fight against lung cancer. Gerard passed away the morning of April 20th, 2011. We will miss him terribly.”

On March 13, 2008, Dr. Randy Pausch provided testimony to the Labor, Health & Human Services Subcommittee on behalf of the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network. This is his personal story about his diagnosis of pancreatic cancer and his fight to survive. Pancreatic cancer is the fourth leading cause of cancer deaths in the US, but receives extremely little federal funding to support research efforts. In March of 2008, the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network went to Congress to urge the federal government to provide critical funding to speed the cure for this horrible disease.

This is Ava doesn’t look like a cancer patient does she? But she is she is our miracle, We would like to share her journey with you. Ava was born a healthy baby girl 2 weeks into her life she was diagnosed with a malignant brain tumor, which has been successfully removed. She has survived meningitis as well. She signifies what true strength is and that miracles do occur if you believe and pray. Ava has had 16 surgeries and she is still here with us thank god. She shows me that anything is possible if you have faith. I get my strength from my daughter although it should be the other way around.
