Don’t compare yourself to others. Celebrate your own unique skill set and style.
Share your passion with like-minded creative folks. There are plenty of artists out there who share their love for the medium, just like you. Form a group and cheer each other on.
Base your success on your own artist growth, tackle as many projects as possible.
Challenge yourself constantly to push yourself to the next level.
Be confident in your knowledge and your ability to creatively problem solve.
Do it because you love it.
Follow your own vision. If you build it, they will come. (and if not, you can be happy that you accomplished something all on your own terms.)
Do work because you enjoy it. Please yourself first!
Share your thoughts, concerns and feedback with the client / customer / gallery owner / patron. Frame your dialogue with the intent of helping your clients succeed.
Set realistic goals, both short term and long term. Re-evaluate and refocus your goals. Take the time to enjoy the artistic journey.

Modern Romance Novel

He grasped me firmly but gently just above my elbow and guided me into a
room, his room. Then he quietly shut the door and we were alone. He approached
me soundlessly, from behind, and spoke in a low, reassuring voice close to my ear.

"Just relax."

Without warning, he reached down and I felt his strong, calloused hands
start at my ankles, gently probing, and moving upward along my calves
slowly but steadily. My breath caught in my throat. I knew I should be
afraid, but somehow I didn't care. His touch was so experienced, so sure.

When his hands moved up onto my thighs, I gave a slight shudder, and partly
closed my eyes. My pulse was pounding. I felt his knowing fingers caress my
abdomen, my ribcage. And then, as he cupped my firm, full breasts in his
hands, I inhaled sharply. Probing, searching, knowing what he wanted, he
brought his hands to my shoulders, slid them down my tingling spine and
into my panties.

Although I knew nothing about this man, I felt oddly trusting and
expectant. This is a man, I thought. A man used to taking charge. A man not
used to taking `no' for an answer. A man who would tell me what he wanted.
A man who would look into my soul and say ...

.
.
"Okay, ma'am, all done."

My eyes snapped open and he was standing in front of me, smiling, holding
out my purse. "You can board your flight now."

PPSC Coastal Meeting

Hey everyone,

Running a photography studio is often a lonely endeavor. We mostly work for ourselves with little interaction with other photographers. If you are an active photographer, you should belong to a local photography group. This could be your local chapter of ASMP, PPA or others. They allow you to meet other photographers working in a similar line of work who can understand what you are going through. They provide a forum the exchange information and ideas that will help your business grow.

Last Monday our local PPA chapter had such a meeting. The Professional Photographers of South Carolina sponsored the August PPSC Coastal Meeting.

The program was titled Packages – Priced to Sell. Jeanne Richardson of Jeanne Creations Studio in Georgetown, SC. was the host and leader of information. Turnout was good and we had photographers representing almost half the state present.

Jeanne’s presentation covered instruction on how to come up with a product line, how to price your individual products, how to package your products for profit, and exactly how to conduct a sales session with a demo role play. She also included tips for sales and marketing. All this and more along with a fun night breaking bread and fellow-shipping with your fellow PPSC members.

How many photographers?

Hey All,

Over the last couple of years, I have been honored to photograph at over 50 different weddings. Most of these I was part of a team of 2 or 3 photographers. At one of the large weddings we had 5 photographers on site to ensure that we covered everything.

But sometimes, you notice that with that many people running around all night taking photos that sometimes if seems we become the action. Maybe sometime, less is more.

I was reading the blog of Karl Maasdam and he received a letter from a client that hit home. They had recently attended a wedding with multiple photographers and commented on how overall incredibly intrusive they were. Here is the link to Karl's clients letter. I think it is important for everyone to stop and think about what they are saying about the wedding industry as a whole.

Karl, I would like to thank you for posting the letter.

Digital Wakeup Call

Hey All,

This week I had to opportunity to attend David Ziser's Digital Wakeup Call. The event was held in Columbia, SC at the Radisson Hotel and Resort.

The event started at 5PM with a min-trade show. David began his talk at 6pm. He completed his training a little just before 11pm. Not bad for a $59 registration fee.

Made for a long day however. The drive took almost 2 hours from my home just out of Summerville SC.

Now to be able to apply what I have learned. The should help with my companies commercial and event photography.

The Image Doctors is produce every 2 weeks. The News Flash is a weekly edition of the Nikonians News

Remember, the camera is a tool. We are not here to argue which brand is best. Which camera feels best in your hand and does what you need. I have been using Nikon for around 20 years and I like the feel of the tool in my hand.

The Candid Frame

Hey All,

I have been asked many times by several people, what podcasts I listen to. Most of the podcast I listen to are about photography. Over the next couple of weeks I will be posting the podcasts that I listen on a regular basis. Hope you like some of my selections.

I will start this series off with a podcast not so much about photography, as much as the photographers that take the pictures.

Today’s podcast is the Candid Frame. Hosted by Ibarionex R. Perello. He sits down one-on-one with different photographers and talks about how they started and maybe a secret here and there. It is well worth the time.

Wow it has been busy. I am at least 2 wedding behind in posting. I have been shooting with a wonderful Charleston Wedding Photographer, Virgil of CVI Photography.

I have also been moving into our new home. Taking a lot longer to unpack all of the boxes then it took to fill them.

I thought today that I would post some of my favorite blog posts from others.
