There are few experiences as amazing as stepping into a new car. Every sense is stimulated by the freshest in ICE technologies, the sounds of the newest engines, and that oh-so-distinctive, irreplicable new car smell. The cars that are being made today are faster, better-appointed, and more efficient than ever. And yet, the vintage scene is larger than it’s ever been before. Classic muscle car enthusiasts are currently spending tens of thousands of dollars creating Pro-Touring cars out of 35 year old Detroit iron, import fans are hunting down seemingly forgotten Japanese performance models, and wheel companies are re-releasing wheels that five years ago would have been easily found in a junkyard. Every time the scene delivers an unworldly 1000 HP GTR or LF-A, a mint condition Hakosuka or 2000GT rises up from the annals of history to remind us that newer doesn’t exactly mean better.

Paving the Way: Dan Allard’s Trendsetting Vauxhall Corsa

With every new model release comes new potential. Every year, car enthusiasts watch new vehicles hit the show floors across the world at shows in Detroit, Las Vegas and Tokyo and the first thing that comes to mind is how much better that car would look if _______________ was done to it. Seeing commercials, show coverage and photoshopped pictures of the new models exponentially increases the anticipation of how it can be modified. Whether it’s a certain set of wheels, a slight or dramatic drop, or specific exterior modifications, we can all picture it and build a full show car in our minds (with those imaginary, unlimited funds we also possess) before we even see it in person. After the car hits the showroom floor and goes up for sale, everyone anxiously awaits the first person to start modifying it. It’s a heavy weight Dan Allard has once carried on his shoulders but when he started modifying his Vauxhall Corsa, all eyes were on him and he did anything but disappoint…

Jose Lopez started out his build very different by choosing a chassis you don’t see too many people modifying, a Nissan Cube.

Well my friend PT (founder of Blown Euros) reached out to me a few weeks ago and said his tires were almost shot on his Imola Red e39 M5, and he had a fresh set waiting to go on. So before he mounted the new tires he wanted to burn the old tires down to cords and take some burnout pics! Here is one of my favorites from our quick shoot!

Know Your Roots: Matthew Waln’s VIP’d E38

We all had a starting point; a reason for getting into the scene. For many, it started at a young age with a passion for cars having been passed down from a father or grandpa who tinkered around in the garage or took them to car shows. A larger percentage found their roots through friends who had “sick” cars when they were in high school or college (depending on your age, it could’ve been the body-kit/underglow inspiring “Fast and Furious” Era) and wanted to turn their vehicle into an extension of themselves and their style, not just something to get you from A to B. For as many of us who have wandered from the first scene we became a part of (Euro, JDM, Domestic, etc), there are just as many who have stuck with the same make for years. Matt Waln is one of those who stayed true to his roots: BMW. The car you see before you as the subject of our feature is actually his fourth Bavarian creation, so he knows them like the back of his hand.
