Just because you buy a car second hand it doesnt mean that you dont have rights. However, what rights you have will all depend on where you purchase the car from.

Knowing what your rights are and what you can do about them can be a problem when it comes to second hand vehicles because the vehicle could have hidden faults or the conditions defined in order for the vehicle to meet satisfactory conditions is lower.

When buying a second hand car from a dealer, many will give you the option to pay for an extended warranty over the standard one year guarantee or something similar such as mechanic breakdown cover. However, while you are paying for peace of mind, it does come at a price.

The most important thing to remember if you do have a problem with a second hand car is to act as soon as the problem is discovered. This is because the outcome depends on the condition the vehicle was sold in and if you had the vehicle some time it could affect your claim.

If you bought the car from a dealer then the car must be fit for the purpose it is sold, in satisfactory condition and must meet the description which was given. Any defects must have been pointed out to the buyer by the dealer before the sale was made. If you have problems then it could be helpful to have the car evaluated by a professional.

If the car was bought at an auction then you might not have any rights under consumer law. If you have problems with a car purchased this way, then seek professional advice from the Citizens Advice.

If you buy the car from a private seller then you do have rights but less than had you bought the car from a dealer. However the vehicle has to be as described, has to have the correct documentation and has to be roadworthy.

Todays car shopper is faced with many choices on how to buy a vehicle, but none offers more information and up-to-date information like the Internet. In years past, when you in were in the market for a car, you would go to the dealership empty-handed, test-drive the car and put together the deal based on what you thought the car was worth. Unfortunately, many times buyers ended up getting a raw deal, with the dealerships using their salesmanship and behind the scenes knowledge to turn the deal in their favor.

But now, things are different. The Web offers shoppers a tool which they can research, price and even take a virtual test drive of the car they want. They can e-mail or call, and have all the information at their fingertips at sites like Kelly Blue Book (www.kbb.com) and Edmunds (www.edmunds.com).

Possibly one of the best examples of a site dedicated to the car buyer is www.sandiegocardeals.com, run exclusively by the internet/fleet department of Kearny Mesa Toyota in San Diego. The site offers a complete virtual inventory of all new Toyota and Scion models as well as complete pre-owned inventory listings. But what really sets this site apart from the others is that they actually post retail and invoice prices so that the buyer can simply name my price, based on the research theyve done online prior to coming to the site.

This approach, of providing the buyer with as much information as possible, is a product of Kearny Mesa Toyotas realization that it is not status quo in the car business anymore.

We found that the buyer responds to being treated like an intelligent human being, said Melissa Amick, Internet/Fleet Director at the San Diego Toyota dealer. They have done the research, and they just love it when they talk to one of our Internet specialists and get a straightforward, honest answer.

Kearny Mesa Toyota has even taken it a step further buy training and authorizing their entire Internet department staff so that they can quote prices over the phone without having to check with management.

While many people view going green, as a politically correct thing to do in this day and age, when it comes to fuel be it gasoline or diesel there are limited supplies and seemingly unlimited demand. This means that finding alternatives to traditional forms of fuel is a wise decision for many automobile owners as well as those who decide to supplement their current fuel or diesel, if the case may be, consumption by incorporating the regular use of a fuel additive in order to keep vehicles running smoothly along the way while stretching the gas (or diesel) mileage even further.

Truthfully, there is much more good that can be done for the environment by using alternative fuel sources than one may realize. Even better, the more people who decide to utilize alternative sources of fuel the more the big businesses that are growing fat off our pain will notice a slice into their pieces of profit pie. All in all, taking a bite out of their profits is not a bad idea all around. If you cannot afford or do not have access to alternative fuel sources where you live you can do your part to put these big businesses growing fat on your dependence on fuel on a diet by using FuelBoost Diesel Additive each and every time you fill your tank.

Keep in mind however that saving money and using less fuel isnt the only benefit that FuelBoost brings to the table. Enjoy the bounty of benefits that incorporating FuelBoost into your automotive diet, whether using traditional fuel sources or alternative fuels, such as biodiesel or traditional fuel from the pump while remaining true to your green causes and your efforts to curtail your own impact on the global warming of our planet.

One way FuelBoost helps is by lowering the emissions that are put out by your automobile. Depending on how often you use your vehicle this can have a significant impact. Imagine if everyone in the world did their part to lower the emissions of their own vehicles? Start small and tell everyone you meet about the wonders of FuelBoost. Word of mouth after all, is the best advertising money can buy. By saving money and helping the planet at the same time there is little in this situation that isnt worth sharing.

Another way that FuelBoost helps save the planet or at least prolong the resources of the planet is by reducing, by small fractions true but small fractions just the same, our dependence upon foreign oil, or worse yet, drilling new pipelines that may threaten delicate ecosystems that will allow fuel to be gathered a little closer to home. The impact of massive oil pipelines is no small footprint upon the planet and FuelBoost can increase your gas mileage by as much as 10 per cent. This may not seem like much but when you imagine these large trucks that deliver goods across the country mile after mile 10 per cent can really add up quickly in savings not only monetarily but also consuming a resource that we will some day be unable to replenish. Whether using FuelBoost Diesel Additive with diesel fuel straight from the pump or in combination with other alternative diesel fuels on the market the impact to the planet can be as significant as the impact to your wallet and that is quite an accomplishment.

It’s expensive buying a car and it only gets more so as time goes on. Over time, the price of new cars has increased faster than the rate of inflation. This isn’t entirely due to greed on the part of automakers; cars are also more complicated and useful than they used to be. Sure, they were cheaper in the 1960′s, but they didn’t include air conditioning, air bags and video systems. Convenience and safety comes at a price.

With the increase in price comes an increase in the length of time people are taking to pay off their cars. Few people pay cash; most people take out loans and pay over time. The average car loan, which used to be repaid over a period of three years, now averages about six years in duration. That’s a long time to pay for a car, especially if you have no plans to own it for that long.

Taking six years to pay for a car has its advantages, as the payments are lower than they would be over a shorter loan term. Such a long loan does have a significant disadvantage, though – you can find yourself in a negative equity, or “upside down”, situation. This can be a serious problem – if you should total the car in an accident, your insurance company will only pay you the value of the car, and not the amount you still owe.

A buyer is described as being upside down when he or she owes more on a car loan than the car is worth. It’s easy to find yourself in an upside situation, and it can occur under any of the following circumstances:

Insufficient down payment – Cars depreciate as much as 25% the minute you drive them off of the lot. If you haven’t provided enough of a down payment to cover that depreciation, you may find yourself upside down immediately.

Trading in too often – Buyers like to trade cars in and roll their outstanding balance into a new loan. These unpaid debts can contribute to negative equity.

Too long a loan – Five and six year loans often lead to negative equity. You can often avoid it by keeping the length of loans to three years or less.

In order to avoid a potential problem in the event of an accident, you should contact your insurance provider to make sure that you have “gap insurance.” Gap insurance will make sure that you are protected should you have an accident while in an upside down situation. Without gap insurance, you may find yourself still making car payments even though you no longer have a car. That is the last thing any car owner wants.

When seeing advertisements involving cars for sale by the owner, you dont have to automatically suspect. If youre a smart customer, youll read the whole advertisement and decide for yourself whether or not the owner is a legitimate seller selling a viable vehicle. Some advertisements will reveal themselves as just nonsense; others will involve the sale of used automobiles by dealers. Still others will be legitimate advertisements for cars offered by owners who are giving you a great deal for their used vehicle. Again, reading carefully makes all the difference.

For example, I recently was in the market for a used automobile and decided to go for one that was for sale by an owner, feeling this to be the most effective way to get a used car at a reasonable price. I found a selection of advertisements on Craigs List, an online community bulletin board. Amazingly, there were many choices for me, some of which looked great but werent in my budget, some of which were very affordable but lacked all the necessary parts (like the engine) and some that looked great enough to actually contact the owners and test drive the vehicles. Unfortunately, I was unable to get any response back from the owners, even after I called back and left an offer.

Unfortunately, I found ads on that site that really werent those for cars selling by owner but were ads that clearly came from dealers. Even the dealers information was listed in the ad. I didnt think this would be a problem, however, the information listed four contact numbers, misspelled information and the same information showed up in ads for more than one vehicle. I was looking for a 1970s Chevy truck and, in a search of over 1000 vehicles, it became obvious that the same dealer was selling many more than just one car. The same contact phone numbers and misspelled words were in each and every ad.

Personally, I think that dealer was a fraud. While the vehicles probably really existed the photos and information were in the ad but I could tell from the background in the photos in which the cars were shown were taken in the same place and that, unless this was a guy with a lot of vehicles, I was looking at a dealer and not just an owner trying to sell a car. This was more likely a person trying to avoid paying dealers taxes by passing himself off as an owner. The guy wasnt going about it in a terribly sneaky way using the same contact information and putting all the vehicles in the same category where they would likely get picked up by skilled and attentive buyers. As one of those buyers, I felt like he was wasting not only my time, but the time of serious buyers out there, trying to get a good deal on a car. Such behavior only serves to make the whole used car business look bad and its not good for those legitimate sellers out there just trying to sell a decent car.

With the hurricanes and flooding that has hit in the south recently there are hundreds of thousands of vehicles that have moderate to severe flood damage.

Some of these vehicles that have not been completely submerged will be cleaned up, freshner sprayed into carpets and vents and shipped North, East and West.

The people who deal in these vehicles get them dirt cheap and do some clean up and then ship them out to the unsuspecting public. These vehicles will look normal but after buying one of them you will most likely develope serious problems down the road.

These vehicles will have mold started that you won’t be able to detect for some time and the odor will be covered up with some strong sprays that will hide the problem for several weeks/months. But then one warm day sfter being closed up in the sun you will open the door to a musty odor that will start to become worse each day until after a while it will be unbearable.

The odor may be the least of your problems for after a vehicle is submerged in water for any length of time the water and grit is in the engine, transmission, differential all the wheel bearings and working parts. So after driving the vehicle a few hundred miles you will start to develope major failures to these components.

Also the water will get into the electrical system of the vehicle and cause shorts in the wiring that may cause fires or serious damage to the computer system of the vehicle that will result in very high repair bills.

To avoid buying any of these vehicles you will need to do a complete inspection of the vehicle to check it out for any tell tale signs of water damage. If you can’t do this youself hire a good mechanic to check it for you, or use a vehicle inspection service and Carfax to determine if it has been in a flood or any type of accident or had major repairs.

Check title for previous owners and if it trails back to recent sales in the Hurricane/flood states pass up the sale even it seems to be a good deal as you may have some high repair bills later or worse, not even be able to salvage vehicle.

Check out my web site for other tips and Automotive information at www.jtcbiz.com

Are you going to be boating mostly alone? Or will you typically be fishing with one or two other people? It can be disappointing to buy a boat and then find out that it is too small for your whole family, and so you dont get enough use out of it. Conversely, if you buy a boat that is too big, and it is only you who use it, you might find it too much of a hassle to take out. Think of how you want to use it. It is probably a safer bet to get one bigger instead of smaller just in case. You dont want to leave your kids or your friends on shore! (Except maybe if you do: then you can get a small fishing rig just for you and for some peace and quiet!)

How often will you use it?

If you are only going to be a pleasure boater, or if you dont live near water, you will probably want a boat that can fit on a trailer. If you will be taking it out more than just on weekends, you will want to consider keeping it in a marina. Remember to account for the costs of storing your boat when you are making your budget: a typical rule of thumb is to double your monthly payments to find out how much you will really be spending on upkeep, maintenance, and storage.

Where will you use it?

Get a boat that you will be able to access, no matter how you plan to do it. If you live far from the nearest lake or river, then you will want to figure out how you will be getting to your boat. Consider also if you will be using your boat in freshwater or saltwater, because that can sometimes make a difference to the materials that you want to buy.

If you will be in the Great Lakes or in the Ocean, you will want a different type of boat than if you are going to be in rivers. For these types of lakes, or lakes with very choppy waters, you will want a boat with a deep-V hull so that your ride isnt as bumpy.

What kind of boat do you want?

Buying a kayak is completely different than buying a schooner. You will probably have an idea of the type of boat that you want when you go to make your purchase. Do you want one that has a motor? Do you want one that is specialized for fishing? There are many different types of fishing boats and other specialty boats. Perhaps you are interest in a sailboat.

The best way to find out what kind of boat you want is to talk to other boaters. They will be happy to tell you about their best purchases (and sometimes their worst, too, which you can learn from). They might even take you out for a spin in their boat when you are considering your options.

In the end, you will know what boat is right for you. Do your research and you will feel well-prepared to buy any boat you want!

When people decide to purchase a motorcycle, the person should not forget to buy a helmet. This is not only because it is the law but for the safety of the biker and the passengers on board.

Finding the best motorcycle helmet in the market can be extremely difficult for the first timer or the veteran rider. This is because there are so many companies offering the same number features and benefits.

People who dont know what to do should review these tips that are designed to make that decision possible.

Motorcycle helmets come in different sizes just like shoes. The individual can measure this at home or have the sale person do it in the store. If the brand that the person wants doesnt fit well, its time to try other brands that are also available.

The helmet should be snug so that it will not fall off or move when riding the bike. The biker should be sure it is not too tight because this will be difficult to put on or take off after use.

It is advisable to leave the helmet on for 30 to 45 minutes because this the length of time is the only indicator if the person will be comfortable using it for those short and long trips on the road.

The customer must also pay close attention to the strap used on the helmet. It is better to get those that have two rings that fasten together than those that are strapped on because tests have shown that this will not come off easily when cruising on the road.

Before purchasing the helmet, there are two things that the individual must check.

First it does not have any defects such as scratches, dents, cracks or any metal sticking out which could be dangerous for the driver.

The second is that this should have a seal of approval from bodies such as DOT or SNELL which have certified the safety standard of the helmet. Consumers are advised not to buy those that do not have any safety certification sticker printed on the product.

Is there one brand of a motorcycle helmet better than the others? No because most of these products comply with the safety standards set by the government and have been tested.

The person will just have to try these on to be able to find the right one that will fit well on the head. The biker should remember that this could be the only thing that could save the life of the person in case an accident happens.
