Norman Rockwell's painting Rosie the Riveter, an immensely popular icon of the American work ethic, is now part of the permanent collection at Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art. Painted for the May 29, 1943 cover of the Saturday Evening Post, Rosie the Riveter depicts a strong, capable feminine figure on the home front work effort during World War II.

At the Northwest Arkansas Council's annual meeting June the 17th, Alice Walton, chairman of Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art board of Trustees, revealed Autumn Landscape (1862), a painting by Hudson River School artist Thomas Moran (1837 - 1926), is now in the museum's permanent collection. Ms. Walton made the announcement as part of a presentation updating the Council on the museum's progress and economic impact to the region. visit www.crystalbridges.org

Fresca Gallery Interview with Pepper Pepper

FRESCA GALLERY June 1, 2009

10 Things Interview: Pepper Pepper

Interview with Valerie King, owner of Fresca Gallery

This week, we have gathered some of the questions emailed to us by different artists and we interviewed Pepper Pepper, the Fresca Gallery featured artist for the month of June.

Q1: What's your biggest source of inspiration?

Pepper Pepper: My biggest source of inspiration is nature. Some people have called my art 're-interpretations' of nature. I love the outdoors and get most of my inspirations from the grass, the flowers, the trees, the hills, the lakes, the mountains and the fresh air.

Q2: If you could have houses in 3 places, where would they be?

PP: Italy, Alaska, Colorado - in that order.

Q3: What's your dream vacation?

PP: First and foremost, my dream vacation would be to go back to Venice. But as to places I have never been...to be near the beaches of Hawaii or deep in the Brazilian rainforest.

Q4: What's your favorite song right now?

PP: I am a huge Mary Black fan. I also like Tracy Chapman, Luka Bloom, and Janet Klein (1920's Vaudeville music). My favorite song right now and always is 'Summer Sent You' by Mary Black.

Q5: What's your favorite all-time book?

PP: I have read all the Mrs. Murphy Mysteries by Rita Mae Brown. I will pick 'Wish you Were Here' - the first in the series 1990 - as my favorite.

Just wanted to alert everyone.............. Not sure but have received an email inquiring about art and the incorrect language makes me suspect it is a person trying to pull a scam. I have talked with another artist who received the same email, the name was Leo Luther. So just want to say be extra careful about emails from unkown sources.

Artist statement from sculptor Henry Daniel Gatlin

I work intuitively, not with a pre-determined design, but with a sense of how I want the final product to feel. My aesthetic is informed by nature and borrows ideas of texture, mass, and movement from plant life. The lack of definitive subject matter however, leaves the work ambiguous and open to the viewer's interpretation.

Gatlin currently resides in Little Rock and will be heading to Dartmouth in the fall to pursue his MFA in sculpture.
