Grad Nite Update: Parking, Tickets, Contests & More

Lots of activity on the Grad Nite Page! There's now information on reserved seating and parking for the graduation ceremony (you have to enter a lottery to be eligible), a number of Grad Nite Contests (T-Shirt design and Talent Show Entry Form), Committee Meeting date updates, and many general updates to the page. If you're interested in the Graduation Seating or Parking, please email Sally Orpin at sorpin@san.rr.com and include your name, your student’s name, your phone number and your email address. CCA ASB Swap Meet, April 17

Canyon Crest Academy is having its second annual Spring Swap Meet on Saturday, April 17th, 2010 from 7:30 to 11:00 am. Vendors, parents, students, and Clubs will be allowed to purchase spots to sell items of their choice. Reserved spaces are $20 for outside vendors, and $10 for all CCA approved Clubs. If you would just prefer to clean out your closets, ASB will also be accepting item donations from the school community to be sold at the ASB booth. Donations can be dropped off beginning Monday, March 22nd in the ASB room on campus. Unsold donations will not be returned and donors will not be reimbursed for items contributed to ASB for the Swap Meet. Organizing for the 2010 Foundation Auction is well underway, but we're still looking for more great items for the auction! Do you have any items that the Foundation could use for auction items? We're looking for cool stuff like digital cameras or game systems; vacation items like hotel nites or timeshares; culinary ideas like food baskets or cooking lessons; or anything that might raise money to help our kids! CCA Teachers' Wish Lists

View the CCA Teachers' Wish Lists for the semester at the Raven Classroom Gifts page. This program allows you to fund specific items for the classroom of your choice, and every dollar goes directly to the classroom. Some teachers are looking for very simple items, like tissues and hand sanitizer. As you might guess, even a small donation would help with this type of item! Of course, there are more ambitious requests, but the teachers will appreciate any funding we can give.

You can fund a portion of a teacher request, an entire request, or make a general donation to the Raven Classroom Gifts. Simply fill out the Donor Form, indicate which item you wish to fund, and send it in with your donation! If your item has already been purchased or if your item does not get fully funded, your donation will be used to fund another needed item from the list.

Spring Sports at Canyon Crest Academy (2/20/2010 to 6/1/2010) include Swimming, Track, Softball, Baseball, Boys' & Girls' Lacrosse, Boys' Golf, Boys' Tennis and Boys' Volleyball. Spring Athletics Packets are due Wednesday, February 10, 2010. Please be sure you read all the information at the Canyon Crest Academy Athletics Page and download and complete the proper CCA Athletics Packet. Spring tryout information will be on the CCA athletic website on Friday February 12th.

Calling all new and existing volunteers! You are invited to the First Annual Volunteer Appreciation Breakfast on Wednesday, January 13, 2010! All existing and prospective CCA Volunteers are welcome - bring a friend! Principal Brian Kohn has graciously offered to serve pancakes at this CCAF sponsored event. Coffee, tea, fruit, and other edible goodies will also be available. Breakfast will be served from 7:30 to 8:30am. Find out about Volunteer Opportunities and mingle with school staff in an informal setting. It's our way of saying, "Thank You" to all of our wonderful volunteers!

Dear Parents:

No doubt we have all been watching closely to see signs of our nation’s economic recovery. Sure enough, some nationwide economic indicators are showing movement in a positive direction, giving us some good reasons to feel encouraged. However, as most of us have learned, not all aspects of the economy recover at the same rate. California’s public education budgets are linked primarily to two revenue sources, state income tax revenue and state property tax revenue, both of which are still way down. On top of this, the one-time federal stimulus money that helped California’s public education system weather the financial storm in the last fiscal year will not be available to us this year. This is a long way of saying that the economic crisis facing California public education is far from over and the likelihood of further budget cuts to public education is pretty much guaranteed.

Through all of this, there is still some great news and that is the phenomenal success of the CCA Foundation’s fundraising efforts. Thanks to CCA Foundation dollars, CCA has not had to cut any programs! Due to state budget cuts, funding in some areas may have been reduced and some projects may have been placed on hold; but thanks to the CCA Foundation, CCA has been able to continue to supply the top quality academic, artistic, and athletic high school experiences it has become known for. Through books, computers, tutoring, uniforms, costumes, research materials, and more, the CCA Foundation has made a profound and lasting impact on every one of our students by keeping each one of our outstanding programs afloat. There is simply no way to overstate the Foundation’s importance to our school.

As Principal of CCA and on behalf of all students and staff, I want to offer my sincerest thanks to the CCA Foundation and the tireless work of the CCA Foundation Board members. We need and appreciate you now more than ever. Finally, I would like to encourage each and every Raven family to support the CCA Foundation in any way possible.

Envision Festival of the Arts Staff

The Envision: Festival of the Arts is on Saturday, December 12, and we need to recognize some of the people who made it possible: the arts staff at CCA! Festival of the Arts will be held on the CCA campus on Saturday, December 12 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. The day-long arts extravaganza will feature musical and theatrical performances, film screenings and showcase student work in digital and fine arts. A fabulous Holiday Bazaar will be held in conjunction with the Festival of the Arts, and local restaurants will have food for purchase. Tickets are $10 for adults and $6 for students and can be purchased at the Envision Tickets Page or at the door.
