            <description><![CDATA[<p><span style="line-height: 19.2000007629395px; font-size: 12.8000001907349px;">AVALON – Work has begun in the planned replacement of the Peermont substation at 271 61st St. as part of a plan by Atlantic City Electric to upgrade and update the power grid’s infrastructure.</span></p>
<p>Construction at the site is expected to continue throughout the spring, but is slated to be suspended May 21, prior to the Labor Day weekend. Work will not begin again after the Memorial Day weekend.</p>

<p>The camps run from early June until Labor Day weekend and include sports and activities programs for all ages.</p>
<p>“Avalon continues to offer the very best selection of sports and activities programs for residents and visitors each and every summer,” said Chuck McDonnell, director of the Department of Recreation.</p>

<p>OCEAN CITY — A yearlong project to resurface and improve drainage on Bay Avenue will wrap up after Easter, and a restriping project to create bicycle lanes on West Avenue in the south end will start in May, according to county engineer Dale Foster.</p>
<p>Foster presented a briefing on county-related infrastructure projects during the Ocean City Republican Club meeting Tuesday, March 24 at the library.</p>

<p>After being <a href="http://www.shorenewstoday.com/snt/news/index.php/ocean-city-general-news/62966-five-year-capital-plan-approved-haven-avenue-flood-mitigation-stalled.html">tabled at its last meeting</a>, council awarded a $44,720 professional services contract to Michael Baker Engineering of Hamilton (Mercer County) to study and come up with a flood mitigation plan for the area between 26th and 34th streets, from West to Bay avenues.</p>

<p>OCEAN CITY — City Council unanimously introduced a $73.1 million budget for 2015 Thursday, March 26 that includes an increase in the tax rate of just less than one cent, slightly more than the mayor’s original proposal.</p>
<p>The total local purpose tax levy is $46.275 million, up $1.482 million over 2014. If approved, the local tax rate will be 40.96 cents per $100 of assessed value, up from 40.1 cents in 2014. This is a .865-cent tax rate increase, up from the .528-cent increase proposed by Mayor Jay Gillian in February.</p>

<p>MARMORA – ShopRite honored two Marmora employees last week for helping raise more than $17,000 for the Partners in Caring program, which provides funding to food cupboards in five states.</p>
<p>ShopRite associates collected donations at check-out and stores held various events to support regional food banks in communities served by ShopRite stores. In total, ShopRite employees raised $1.27 million this year, according to a press release.</p>

            <description><![CDATA[<p><span style="line-height: 19.2000007629395px; font-size: 12.8000001907349px;">CAPE MAY COURT HOUSE – The public is invited to the annual free Cape May County Park and Zoo Easter Egg Hunt from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Saturday, March 28 at the zoo, 707 Route 9 North.</span></p>
<p>The egg hunt starts at 10 a.m., and the Easter Bunny will pose for pictures with children after the hunt.</p>
<p>Also planned are family activities that include educational displays, crafts and live animal encounters.</p>

            <description><![CDATA[<p><span style="line-height: 19.2000007629395px; font-size: 12.8000001907349px;">CAPE MAY COURT HOUSE – The public is invited to join Our Lady of the Angels at a “Dance Storm” dance marathon from noon to 6 p.m., Saturday, May 16, at Bishop McHugh Regional Catholic School, as a fundraiser to benefit youth groups and parish outreach projects in Cape May County and Haiti.</span></p>
<p>According to a statement from the church, the social justice group at Our Lady of the Angels recently launched its newest Haiti project: a fresh water fish farm to provide a good source of protein to improve the diets and health of poor families.</p>

<p>OCEAN CITY — The long-awaited southend beach replenishment project is expected to begin a half of a month earlier than expected, city administrator Jim Mallon announced at Thursday’s City Council meeting.</p>
<p>During administration reports at the March 26 meeting, Mallon said that the contractor, Great Lakes Dredge Company of Illinois, had already dropped pipe for the dredging at 43rd Street.</p>

            <description><![CDATA[<p>CAPE MAY – Robert Sheehan filed suit against the City of Cape May March 25, saying the city violated the Contentious Employee Protection Act, commonly known as the Whistleblower law.</p>
<p>On Wednesday, the law from of Sciarra &amp; Catrambone LLC issued a statement announcing the suit, in which they describe a “power hungry mayor” and the manager and certain council members as his “henchmen.”</p>
