Cap'n's Comics

Cap'n Science Quartet by Wally Wood

2026-10-21T19:51:32.182-07:00

Only the fourth one is new on here. I useta be on the midnight shift at a big computer firm mak'n big computers. I spliced and cured the material for a bazillion spools of reel-to-reel tape. We sang a line of a hit song a lot-"She blinded me with science!" Probly only makes sense to me, but I think of that verse whenever I see this name

Space Adventures #11 Cover by Steve Ditko

2026-10-19T21:21:06.739-07:00

Che nice

Those Wunnerful Kline-A-Saurs of Bob Kline

2026-10-15T10:08:54.893-07:00

Kline (along with Fujitake and Fantucchio and Art Cooper) was a true "fan" artist of that late sixties/early seventies fanzine golden era. I particularly loved these dinosaur render'ns, but also dug his giant snakes, other massive monsters, and anything else he did

New King Kull by Roy Krenkel!

2026-10-14T09:18:16.317-07:00

Yeah, yeah, just new to me, and just the third image. The other two are smeared all over the wayback on here, kinda like someone likes jelly on their toast, so they try it on both sides. Messy, but tasty. The only reason the paint'n is up again is because it helped me realize the sketch truly was King Kull. I remember how overjoyed I was when I found the paperback at a massive used bookstore. To alter Mitch Hedberg's great quote: I found it at a store that specialized in hard-to-find books. Nothing was alphabetized

In Memory Of Robert E. Howard by Barry Smith

2026-10-13T22:21:22.953-07:00

I'm such a space cadet, this parting shot of Conan at the end of Savage Tales #3 may have been up here before, but (as with most of the fundundant images on here) it still deserves being looked at

Far-Out Fantastic Four by Jack Kirby

2026-10-12T11:40:03.300-07:00

A Kirby blacklight I've neglected in the past, then the Marvel pin-up version on da web, then the way I've always gandered it, from FF Annual #5. Below, here's the other three blacklights that came a'born'n from that same comic, then the ad for all these bad boys, and finally, the poster I put up in the wayback with this exact same post title

Scuba Siren by Wally Wood

2026-10-09T21:38:21.388-07:00

Oh, my heck! I know the wayback is littered with Wally's Galaxies on here, but that first image is new to me, then the Galaxy cover it was under, then the other two Wood illos in that same issue, then a coupla random Galaxy that I'm enamored with

Red Nails, The Poster by Barry Smith

2026-10-07T22:35:21.408-07:00

And what I saw quite often in high school, Red Nails, The Splash

Green Lantern #168 Cover by Gil Kane

2026-10-07T07:16:32.586-07:00

Never really got into GL, which puzzles me. As a tyke, I ran around with my own Green Lantern ring that I made outta three pieces of a building toy from Germany, a green square with two little connectors on the sides of my finger. Best super-hero costume ever. I guess I blame my Marvel Maniac status for most of my later youth

Lunar Co-Inky-Dinks by Jack Kirby

2026-10-06T22:10:43.064-07:00

Not only does Jack's moon hopper make me think of The Club steering wheel lock some thirty years later, but the view of that early moon base took me away to 2001, and 2001's moon base also looks kindasorta like The Club

Who Is This Is?

2026-10-06T16:27:28.295-07:00

The first image, an unlabeled illo in a fanzine, sure looks a lot like the tiny alien in Broken Sparrow by Larry Todd, but it ain't. And like they always say, if it ain't Broken Sparrow, don't try to Fix-it Sparrow. See the not-so-distant on here for sump'n more to compare/contrast

Fist Full Of Black'n Whites by Jim Steranko

2026-10-05T13:39:48.698-07:00

aaaaand a different take on color'n the Marvelmania Hulk

Space Truckers by Berni Wrightson

2026-10-05T13:21:41.170-07:00

Although the first image has been up on here for almost five years, I dunno if I ever put up the pencils. As you may know, Space Truckers was a sci-fi comedy movie that starred Dennis Hopper and set all kinds of records (if nobody seeing it in the theater counts as a record). Oddly enough, the first time I saw Dennis Hopper WAS in a theater, when he rode motorcycles with Peter Fonda in Easy Rider. It was also the first time I saw Jack Nicholson

Another City by Roy Krenkel

2026-10-04T21:54:31.813-07:00

I have no idea what this is called, but I sure would like to know. Stuff like this makes me preciate why the Fleagles wanted Roy to draw all their cities. I have a lotta the Krenkel cities up on here in the wayback, but I'd never seen this beaut. Just now had the weird random thought that most of his architecture looks like it's models of ancient candelabras. That couple look'n at a photo album on the park bench seem oblivious

Colorful Outer Space

2026-10-02T13:14:07.646-07:00

Okay, not all these are in outer space, and some aren't very colorful, but other than that, I think I nailed it with this post title

X Men Blue Team by Jim Steranko

2026-10-01T22:24:43.772-07:00

First one is new on here (woooo! yes!). Over a decade ago, I put up the trad'n cards, then over a year ago I put up the curvy pages from Steranko and the American Hero (from the gallery show), but, as Kenny Loggins once wrote and Al Jarreau once sang "as soon as you no longer try you're gonna turn and find it stand'n by your side/ don't forget it/ if you let it/ it'll come to you"

Green Lantern by Gil Kane

2026-09-30T13:58:43.968-07:00

Hey! No running in the halls! This fanzine draw'n may not get as much airplay as all the other GL by GK, but, man, I think it's che cool

Grinch'n With George Metzger

2026-09-30T13:47:39.699-07:00

Spanning three different fanzines, Promethean Ent. #1, All-Stars #2, and Squa Tront #4, this wordless story says a lot with drawrings. Still fascinated by the Doc Seuss channel'n, but wow, a race of Grinches. I always pictured The Grinch kinda like Gollum, a oneofakind from the shadows. The Real World covers have nothing to do with this, it's just been over a year since they were up, and I dig em so much

Coupla Super Agent X by Jim Steranko

2026-09-29T16:16:31.483-07:00

Until now, haven't seen anything about him since the wayback. Dunno how, but sometimes I forget

Folders Full Part Deux

2026-09-29T12:52:48.600-07:00

Folders Full

2026-09-28T21:27:45.710-07:00

Ahhhh-it's been a while since I've indulged my dark side (to wit: my extreme laziness). I THINK there's a coupla new images in this morass, but who knows? If anything puzzles, just ask, and I may even remember sump'nsump'n

The Revenge Of Thor by Jack Kirby

2026-09-28T13:26:35.861-07:00

The first image, a French version of the Thor #166 cover, is new on here. Heck, maybe everything but the last image is new on here, but I can't seem to search to verify that. Apparently, using "Him" as a search word is frowned upon in this establishment

Another Wee Hawk by Wally Wood

2026-09-25T19:55:27.115-07:00

In the wayback, I asked for another Wee Hawk, and now, the great exodus (first image) has arrived. Second image is just another look at the third, which was amongst all I could find 5 years ago

The Silver Surfer by Jack Kirby

2026-09-25T17:06:05.181-07:00

I will never tire of this post title! It's almost like the Surfer was made to be drawn by Jack

Some Fine Line Frankenstein by Berni Wrightson

2026-09-25T12:43:12.728-07:00

Dunno how, but back in the wayback, when try'n to slap up all the Frankensteins, I missed several
