Conan fans - I just picked up a nice collection. Most of these issues look like they were just plucked off the stands and put away - nice. The complete run from 23 - 275 has already sold, but we have a great run of Savage Sword magazines, as well as the complete run (55) of Conan the King and a few mini series left! Also, there are some mini series of “bad girl” detectives, like Flare, up for grabs.

Well, I thought I would strike a nerve about my thoughts (questions) on the “In Loving Memory of….” decals, but no response.

Wholesale gas prices have dropped considerably the last two days. When they went UP that much, there were immediate price bumps at the pump. Ah, what’s the delay, oil barons? No price gouging, my butt! The paper has published articles explaining that the local merchant makes very little and has practically no say in the price, as if gouging is not going on, but explain to me how two stations, both from the same company, and located a half mile from each other, can charge quite different prices. And why is gas cheaper as we travel AWAY from the local refineries down RT 1?

Speaking of gas, why does DelDot use a HUGE truck to tote the lights warning you that the HUGE street cleaner truck in front of it is going slow. Couldn’t they put those lights on a little S10 and save gas? Or, wait a minute, why not put them on the street cleaner itself and save all of that gas? Come to think of it, after all these years, do those street cleaners do much of a decent job anyway? Why not put to work some of our current citizens receiving free checks or free “room and board”? Just a thought - which I know lots of you have had, also.

Breaking Movie News! Red Sonja! WB takes hard stance on DC Movies!

Red Sonja will be returning to the big screen later next year. Dynamite Entertainment who has the rights to the red hair barbarian, said that they are now scouting filming sites and filming should begin in October. Robert Rodriguez will be producing and first time director, Douglas Aarniokoski, will be directing Rose McGowan as Red Sonja.

Warner Brothers is said to be shaking up the offices that are DC comics. They are talking to DC comics president and top artists about focusing on big name DC Movies and the quality of the content. The whole article can be read here.

There is also word out there that Marvel has finally secured Jon Favreau for the Iron Man sequel. There were reports earlier, that Marvel was slacking and didn’t want to pay Favreau as much as he asked. Well knowing a good think, Marvel went ahead and paid up.

Thats it for now, don’t forget about ‘Hellboy II: the Golden Army’ this weekend and possible the most anticipated comic book movie of all time, ‘The Dark Knight’, next weekend.

The Living Corpse Review

Thank goodness we have a fun zombie book. With the super depression pill that is Walking Dead, it’s good to take a break from that once in a while. Though calling The Living Corpse a zombie book would be selling it short. It’s really a fun story following a man that is trapped keeping the other-worldly things from destroying the normal humans. The only problem with that man is that he’s already dead. So, calling this a fun story may also be misleading. This is a harder book to peg down than I thought…anyway, we follow him through his misadventures fighting all sorts of evil such as a Werewolf, Mad Scientist, Wendigo, and Zombies (the brain dead kind). All throughout he’s either cracking wise or cracking heads.

The art on this book is phenomenal. No, it’s not super realistic, instead Ken and Buz decided to go with an incredibly cool animated type of style that fits the “out there” vibe of the book. The colors fit perfectly and really help set the dark tone against the more lighthearted look of the characters. That is, if you can call a living corpse lighthearted. Just pick up any issue and flip through and you’ll find nothing but great action and clever writing throughout.

Speaking of writing, The Living Corpse definitely has a voice, and new characters introduced each issue are fleshed out enough that you immediately get what they want to accomplish. In terms of plot and story, each issue is a one and done. But throughout the whole thing is a running subplot that really comes to a head at the end of issue #4. There are laugh out loud as well as “oh man, that’s nuts!” moments peppered throughout every issue.

Really, when it comes down to it, the fact that this book jumps to the top of my pile every week it comes out has to say something. While this one might not be appropriate for the little ones, if you like to laugh and if you enjoy zombies, this book is worth every penny.
