We’ve been looking forward to shooting Tim & Laura’s wedding for a few months now. Tim is Emily’s brother whose wedding to Pete we photographed a few years ago. We also know Tim & Laura through Paul & Jen because we shot their wedding too. So there were quite a few friends at the wedding that it was great to catch up with.

Here are a few of our favourites. Special mentions have to go to Gill Pike for the perfect flowers and Nicolas Stow (Cars for All Occasions) for driving us around to get photos amongst the bluebells.

So here are a few of our favourite favourites.

Initially, because the weather was so dull, we a bit concerned about if we’d have a chance to shoot outside at all. But in the end, the stormy rain clouds added to the drama of our photos in the rapeseed field. Other great photo opportunities were the Austin Healey that best man Aidan got the couple to drive around in and when Jamayne played in the band and sang to his wife at the end of the evening. (How romantic is that? And Richard thought he was doing well in booking Hever Castle! (See previous post.))

Altogether Saturday was a tremendous day for us both photographically and socially as we were able spend time with Jamayne & Jade and to catch up with many of our other dear friends including Steph & Si and Jake & Emily.

The weather was pretty dull but that didn’t stop us from taking one or two photos.

Now Richard’s wondering how he can arrange something for next year to top this!

We also would like to say a huge well done to the wedding caterers Tapenade. Through circumstances beyond anyone’s control (traffic, roadworks, football and the weather) the wedding was running late. But Sophie, Gemma and the whole team at Tapenade managed to recover about an hour, while still providing excellent service and yummy food. Thank you so much.

But – the changeable weather didn’t change the great time we had with our friends Alex & Laurie at their wedding at Canada Lodge near Cardiff. Actually, it was quite fun to dodge in and out of the rain and when the sky was clear we got some incredible shots using the amazing light.

Canada Lake is a truly beautiful spot. It’s quiet, peaceful and serene. As always, we checked out the venue beforehand and when we did we met an angler who spends all his spare time there. He said, “When I’m here I feel like I’m in God’s pocket.” which we thought was an apt way of describing the beautiful creation surrounding the lake.

As we made our way back from Blagdon in Somerset, we tried to analyse why we had such a good time at the wedding. Was it the weather? Nope. Overall the weather was quite dull and cold although the wind made for great veil shots and the sunset was gorgeous.

Was it the wedding venue? Partly, yes. We’ve never worked at Coombe Lodge before and so we were thrilled to find so many excellent views and locations for photography. The staff at Coombe Lodge are among the very best we’ve ever come across. They are all intelligent, helpful and caring. In the morning before the wedding, Sara gave us an extensive tour and pointed out the photo opportunities. For the rest of the wedding, Eric was always there to support, organise and direct in a kind and professional manner. It was Eric who spotted the sunset and ran to tell us to make sure we’d noticed it.

But the main reason we had such a great time and love our job so much was because Harry and Natasha are wonderful people. Elsewhere on this site we stress how important it is for the couple to just enjoy the day, enjoy each other’s company, relax and trust their wedding photographers. Harry & Natasha did exactly that. We photograph emotion and you can see excitement, love and happiness in the couple’s eyes from the first photo through to the last. They trusted us completely so when we said, “Quick; the light’s fantastic!” they came immediately. When we asked them to hold still in the cold at night for a long exposure shot they did that too without complaining.

So, Harry and Natasha we want to thank you very much and hope that you are as delighted with the photos as we are.

During the day we overheard many of the guests saying what a lovely couple Jess & Josh are and we certainly agree. They were so much fun and had really put a lot of thought and care into making sure everyone enjoyed their special day too.

Although it wasn’t the best weather on Saturday, the couple braved the cold for some very atmospheric shots in the countryside.

It was a fantastic wedding with lovely people. Here are some of our favourite images from the day.

We often think about the kind of wedding we would have if we could do it all again. While we loved our wedding day with all of our friends and family, we’d probably end up doing the same kind of thing as Bert and Glennis: an enjoyable meal, in a great venue with a few really good friends and close family.

It’s not hard to see why Bert & Glennis are so loved. They are a great couple and very easy to get on with. Here are a few of our favourite photos:

Chris and Ali’s day was full of love and laughter, they are such a wonderful couple and we really felt privileged to be a part of their special day. From our very first meeting we got on so well and both they and their guests were lovely to photograph. Gate Street Barn looked gorgeous as usual and we got to work with the fabulous Kalm Kitchen.
