<p>I&#8217;m in the process of revamping my art portfolio and I&#8217;m trying to figure out exactly what to do. Should I bound it, keep it in clear sleeves, add text descriptions, design a background template for each page? </p>
<p>I&#8217;ve seen very few art portfolios and need some direction in making my own. I want to know what others have done to land their design job or what hiring professionals find interesting in a portfolio to bring back that interviewee. </p>
<p>I&#8217;m currently a junior designer and to get the job I used a black leather, zip binder with clear sleeves inside to hold my artwork. The artwork was printed on regular 8 1/2&#8243; by 11&#8243; white paper. So a lot of white space was seen. At the time, I liked my portfolio but now looking at it, I find it very weak presentation wise. I doubt it will help me get to that next level if I keep it the way it is. I want to make it stand out but in all the RIGHT ways.

   It can be bound or not, art work should be in sleeves, and MOUNTED (standard border is 3&#215;3x3&#215;3.5).<br />
   You should choose only your best work and one size for all of the work (typically 11&#215;14 or 18&#215;24). Keep it consistent, it should &#8220;flow&#8221; and show work in different stages (employers will look for consistency in skill and style, they also want to see how your ideas progress).<br />
    Choose pieces that fit the company or gallery that you are presenting them in. Let your work speak for itself, keep text to a minimum. If you need to, take along notes for the pieces of work to help with the review or any questions the employer/buyer might have.<br />
   My portfolio is 11&#215;14 mounted (most of the time on black or neutral grey board), in clear sleeves, and unbound. My work is presented in a black (inside and out) archival box. People will carefully look through the work and handle it as they would a precious object. I hope this helps you along your way.<br />

<p>Do you have a blog? If you&#8217;re an Internet Marketer, and you don&#8217;t have one, why not? Is it because you&#8217;re afraid that you can&#8217;t write? Is it because you&#8217;re afraid you don&#8217;t know how to set up a blog? Is it because you don&#8217;t think you have time for a blog? Well, you&#8217;re wrong on all three counts. You&#8217;re wrong!</p>
<p>Everyone interested in list building should be driving traffic to <a href="http://www.capturepage.net/squeeze-pages/">Squeeze Pages</a>, and blogs are an incredibly easy way to do that. First, search engines love them, so if you start a blog and make an entry every day, you&#8217;ll soon get ranked highly, if you stick to a theme and use keywords in your posts that show the search engines: &#8220;This is what my blog is all about.&#8221; It doesn&#8217;t take very long, either. One of my blogs came out as a PR5, the first time it ever got page rank, and for those of you who don&#8217;t understand the significance, it&#8217;s great!</p>
<p>When Google appoints page rank, it depends on lots of factors. I don&#8217;t want to get into that now, but let&#8217;s just say that a PR5 will show up better in search results than a PR0, 1, 2, 3, or 4. And for that reason it will get more traffic. The goal is to get your blog into the first three pages of results, the first page being the most desirable, with the top spot as your bullseye. That position gets the most traffic of all.</p>
<p>But let&#8217;s adress those issues that are stopping you.</p>
<p>You think you can&#8217;t write: </p>
<p>Well, everyone can write and there are lots of good courses out there to help you learn to do that. Get one and study it. Then, set aside one hour a day to start writing. Don&#8217;t do another thing, except stare at the blank screen, until you get some words down, even if you&#8217;re only outlining an idea. If you make this a ritual, it might be hard for the first day or so, but eventually, you&#8217;ll train your brain to realize that &#8220;Doh! It&#8217;s 9 o&#8217;clock. I have to be writing.&#8221; If you can&#8217;t afford a whole hour to start, try half an hour or even just fifteen minutes. You&#8217;ll be amazed at how much you can get done, when you have that &#8220;special&#8221; time set aside. After you&#8217;ve been doing this a while, you&#8217;ll probably write a blog entry every day. It won&#8217;t happen at first, but it will happen.</p>
<p>You can also find interesting tidbit on the web, and put excerpts from this stuff on your blog, too. Just be sure you aren&#8217;t plagiarizing. If you want to post more than 10% of the total words in the work, then, get permission from the author first. </p>
<p>Or use an article from one of the directories because they are free to print, as long as you keep the author&#8217;s information intact. Use the work in its entirety, including the author&#8217;s resource box or bio box. Then add a paragraph of introduction to the piece and a closing paragraph and &#8220;wrap&#8221; the article with your own words. </p>
<p>But if you just are dead set against writing or you feel that you don&#8217;t have the time it takes, hire someone. You can find people on places like Elance.com and Craigslist.com who will do the writing for you. These are &#8220;ghostwriters,&#8221; who not only sell you the article, but they sell you all rights with it, as well. That means you can put your name in the byline, you can change the article as you see fit. You can sell it and keep the money. If you have the ability to pay, ghostwriting might be your solution.</p>
<p>You don&#8217;t know how to set up a blog:</p>
<p>Not many people do! But it&#8217;s not a problem. If you are hosting on a cPanel server, WordPress can be installed easily by a great installer program called Fantastico. Just go into your cPanel account, and click Fantastico. Then, a whole bunch of options will probably come up. One of them will be &#8220;install WordPress blog,&#8221; or something like that. You fill in a few blanks, and voila! You have your own blog. Editing the templates are another issue, and that may be a bit tricky for you, if you&#8217;re not familiar with HTML.</p>
<p>So, if you don&#8217;t know how to do these technical details, hire someone to do it for you. You can find them online, too, at places like RentaCoder.com. Tell them what you want done and pay them to do it for you.</p>
<p>You don&#8217;t have time for a blog:</p>
<p>You don&#8217;t have time NOT to have a blog. Blogs are great for many reasons. First, as mentioned above search engines love them. By placing a link to your main site on your blog, you&#8217;re getting a one-way link back to your site, too. That&#8217;s also great for search engine optimization because search engines look at links like votes. The more one-way votes you have, the higher your site will rank. But the best thing about a blog is the traffic you&#8217;ll get. Sign up for some Web2.0 sites, like StumbleUpon, Del.icio.us, and Spicy Page, and book mark your posts there, too. You&#8217;ll get tons of traffic!</p>
<p>The whole thing is that having a <a href="http://www.capturepage.net/squeeze-page/">Squeeze Page</a> alone won&#8217;t help you one bit, if nobody knows it exists. Of the bazillion web pages out there, you need to take action to see that your page is noticed. You need traffic. Blogs are great for traffic! <h2>Sending Traffic To Your List Building Page. Part Two: Getting Blog Traffic</h2>
<p>We&#8217;re back again to talk to you about more ways to get traffic to your blog, which will in turn send more traffic to your list building or squeeze page. Last time, we talked about setting up and adding content to your blog. This time, let&#8217;s discuss other ways of getting traffic.</p>
<p>Natural search or what they term &#8220;organic&#8221; search traffic is great, but it takes a while to build up. But there are other search engines you may not be aware of. They&#8217;re specifically geared toward searching for blogs. One of the oldest is Technorati at http://technorati.com. If you have a blog and haven&#8217;t &#8220;claimed&#8221; it at Technorati, it&#8217;s probably a good thing to do. Your site will be indexed and ranked, and you could pick up an audience, too. The more people who like your blog the higher it will rise in the rankings.</p>
<p>There are other less &#8220;interactive&#8221; blog searches, too, like Blogsearch.Google.com or IceRocket, but there are many more. List your blog with as many as possible.</p>
<p>But the interactive sites are very popular right now. I&#8217;m sure you&#8217;ve heard of MySpace and YouTube, or you&#8217;ve been hiding in a closet somewhere. These sites bring traffic, but there are hundreds of sites that will have the same effect, if you get involved in what&#8217;s called &#8220;Web 2.0.&#8221;</p>
<p>StumbleUpon: When you write a post, you can &#8220;StumbleUpon&#8221; it. Give each of your pages a StumbleUpon vote and watch your traffic soar. To get to that page, rather than just the first page of your blog, you&#8217;ll need to click on the post&#8217;s title (if you&#8217;re using WordPress) or click on a link that says &#8220;permalink.&#8221; That will take you to a page with the precise post number included. StumbleUpon those each time you post.</p>
<p>SpicyPage: This is somewhat like MySpace in that you&#8217;ll have people asking to be your &#8220;friend,&#8221; or you can find friends of your own. SpicyPage is different than Digg or StumbleUpon in that you can include not just your blog postings in your profile, but your web sites as well. Make a lot of friends, get lots of votes for your site, and your traffic will climb.</p>
<p>Digg: Digg was created mainly to mark news stories for its members&#8211;news stories of interest. Well, when you post to your blog, that&#8217;s news right? Unless you&#8217;ve posted nothing but a picture or silly nonsense or random musings, Digg will accept your vote for other people to see what you&#8217;ve voted on. Be sure that your post is an article, though, or your page might be &#8220;buried.&#8221; You don&#8217;t want that.</p>
<p>Most of these sites work the same way or similarly to the sites above. Others include Furl, Reddit, and RawSugar, but there are hundreds. Sign up for as many as you can, and each day enter your posts into as many sites as you can. The more you enter, the more your traffic you&#8217;ll get to your blog.</p>
<p>One more way to get traffic to your blog would be:</p>
<p>Wikipedia: This online, user-generated encyclopedia is an incredible source of incoming traffic, if you can meet the editors&#8217; requirements. At the bottom of every post is a section called &#8220;Other sources,&#8221; and this is where you&#8217;d enter the link to your blog. Just be sure that you&#8217;re providing quality information in that category and that your site isn&#8217;t commercial.</p>
<p>If you have a non-commercial blog, as with my own at ADHDWebsites.com, where I do nothing but talk about ways to control ADD and ADHD, then you might consider adding your link to Wikipedia. Just be sure to follow the guidelines or your link will be edited out, almost before it takes hold.</p>
<p>All of these sources will bring tons of traffic to your site. They take some time to set up, but many of them have toolbars or buttons you can put right on your browser to make submitting easy for you. The whole thing is to be consistent. Add good information to your blog, and then be sure to favor your posts every time you make them in as many places as you can, and you&#8217;ll be amazed at the traffic you get. I have tried to find tutorials and free tools on line but the amount of information on SEO and SEM is overwhelming.   Which are the good sites and tools,,  I have gotten very good advise from you guys  While I was building my site.  Now, I am asking if anyone knows of good SEO and SEM sites that could teach me how to optimizate my site for better ranking on the search engines.  Also, If you guys know about good free tools or trialware for seo that I could try and test for myself.? <p>There is so much rubbish and out of date SEO advice on the web that it is very difficult to separate the truth from the fiction unless you are already an expert. </p>
<p>Forums are particularly bad because you get every possible shade of opinion and if you are a beginner you have no way of knowing what is correct. </p>
