Occupying a surface of 660 square meters, the DG House by DOMB Architects is a simple contemporary residence built using materials like painted plaster, grey oak and glass. With a narrow facade and neighbouring a public park on the backside, the residence leaves the impression of a highly modern house with clean design lines. Two asymmetrical boxes connected through open staircases shape the layout of the house. The center of the residence is a double height space that brings the family together in a great and comfortable entertaining area. Double doors lead out to the pool and a long deck crosses the entire length of the house, from the entrance to the backside garden, visually connecting the spaces. Glass walls cleverly located offer a bright atmosphere and allow visual connection between the inside spaces. The private quarters of the house ensure the much needed quiet time for the adults on the ground floor, while the children’s rooms are situated on the first floor, where a private living room and independent bathroom ensure their independency from the rest of the house. The kitchen is connected to the dining room and the outside barbeque, making it easy for the family to enjoy their meals together. Papercraft Audi A7 Replica

A 4-foot long papercraft replica of the 2012 Audi A7 was launched at the 2011 New York Auto Show.
This project was started by Taras Lesko, graphic design artist, who designed this project with 285 sheets of paper. Using photos and A7 blueprints from Germany, he designed 750 model pieces out of card stock, which he then printed, folded and glued together. His equipment was a laser printer, two desktop cutting plotters, glue and an X-ACTO knife. More than 245 hours later, he had created his own bold vision.

Caterpillar House was designed by Feldman Architecture and is situated in the hills of the Santa Lucia Preserve, California. According to the architects, “Caterpillar House implements sustainable elements while exploring a contemporary version of the ranch ideals: massing that is low and horizontal, an open plan with a strong connection between indoor and outdoor spaces, and main living areas which center informally on the kitchen. Connecting literally and figuratively to the site, excavated earth was repurposed for the construction of the walls. These rammed earth walls gently curve in response to the site’s contours and also act as a thermal mass, regulating temperatures from day to night.

Capturing rainwater for irrigation, three tanks proudly sit close to the home – a clear sign of the available water resources for landscape. Large south-facing glass doors open the main living area to a large covered contemporary porch and to an outdoor patio with sunshades that expand and contract to allow for a flexible entertaining area that responds to the client’s needs. The glazing, natural ventilation and operable shading also act as a passive heating and cooling system, cooling the house in the summer and warming the house in winter. Imposing Concrete Residence in Warsaw: Safe House

“Safe House” was designed by Kwk Promes Architects and is located in Warsaw, Poland. The aim of the project was to create a two-level “fortress” that would provide a high level of security for the owners. Which is why the house features movable concrete walls that can pretty much isolate the entire residence when the owners are away for example. The house can literally be “closed” and “opened” according to the needs of the inhabitants. Here is more from the architects: “When the set of 15 meter-long retractable walls on the eastern and western side are slid all the way out, the entry plot is enclosed into a temporary courtyard space. The back of the house, which faces an expansive garden to the south, features a 6 meter-high roll-down gate that completely opens up the interior to the exterior. Floor-to-ceiling windows provide a panoramic view of the surrounding landscape, presenting the living space with an effectively contrary impression to the one offered by the solid mass of the building.” We would be interested to know what are the main features that make a house “safe” in your opinion – architecturally speaking. Peninsula Residence, House with Lake View, designed by Bercy Chen Studio, located in Lake Austin, Texas, United States. The project begins with a 1980′s home-builder house fronting on lake austin. The original design did not harness views to the lake and Mount Bonnell, nor did it respect the ecological sensitivity of its site. The challenge was to develop a sensitive and inventive result out of a pre-existing condition. Through the use of glass, steel, detailing and light the home has been adaptively reinvented. Reflection, translucency, color and geometry conspire to bring natural light deep into the house. A new solarium, pool, and vegetative roof are tuned to interact with the natural context. Exterior materials and refined detailing of the roof structure give the volume clean lines and a bold presence, while abstracting the form of the original dormers and gable roof. Further connecting the home to its site, the roof begins to dissolve where a glass clad chimney and slatted wood screen stand in relief against the sky

Zaha Hadid together with Lemghari Essakl signed a contract for the architectural plan of Rabat Grand Theatre at a ceremonial occasion that took place in Rabat on November 5. Mr.Essakl also signed agreements with few others during the event, namely Mr. Salaheddine Mezouar for project financing, Mr. Taieb Cherkaoui, for project Interiors and Mr. Abdelouahed Kabbaj for Economic and Social Development.

Occupying a total land area of nearly 47000 sqm with a floor area of nearly 27000 sqm, the innovatory Rabat Grand Theater is considered to be a cultural spot of the highest standards. With a capability of accommodating 2,050 seats and 520 smaller seats, the Grand Theatre features creative studios with a fully equipped outdoor amphitheatre capable of accommodating up to 7,000 people. As the name suggest, the cost of this project is estimated at £100 Million. It is expected that the Grand Theatre would be located at one of the largest development area of the Moroccan capital, the Bouregreg Valley. Wide range of housing, leisure and hospitality complexes is expected to be hosted by the end of the year 2014, which in turn would add more popularity to the Grand Theatre. Zaha Hadid and Lemghari Essakl, Managing Director of The Bouregreg Valley Development Agency signed an agreement for the architectural design of the Rabat Grand Theatre at a ceremony held in Rabat on November 5. During the event, Mr. Essakl also signed the project financing agreement with Mr. Salaheddine Mezouar, Moroccan Minister of Economy & Finance, Mr. Taieb Cherkaoui, Minister of the Interior, and Mr. Abdelouahed Kabbaj, Chairman of the Executive Board of the Hassan II Fund for Economic & Social Development.

With a dedicated land area of 47 000 sqm and a gross floor area of 27 000 sqm, the Rabat Grand Theatre is a cultural venue of the highest standards. It will include a 2,050-seat theatre, a smaller 520-seat theatre, creative studios and a fully-equipped outdoor amphitheatre with a capacity of up to 7,000 people.

The cost of the project is estimated at 1.35 Billion Moroccan Dirham (£100 Million).
