Hyundai Accent Eco

It's the age of Eco-friendly cars and Hyundai Accent Eco is the latest car in India to join the band of environment friendly vehicles. Accent ECO is described to be synonymous with environmental friendly and economic cars. Hyundai Motor India Ltd.(HMIL) has introduced the LPG variant of Accent. Priced around Rs 34,900 more than the present petrol model, the new Hyundai Accent Eco costs about Rs. 5.34 lakhs.

Hyundai's Accent Eco comes along with LPG kit that is certified by the Department of Explosives and the Automotive Research Authority of India. Amongst the additional features of this eco-friendly version of this sedan is an engine immobilizer that is used as a standard fitment for added security. The other special features include lowest greenhouse gas emission ability (because it emits lower CO2 than petrol version of Accent) and a special filler cap inside the LPG lining that is used to prevent wear and tear of the parts.

This sedan is powered with a 1.5 litre engine with a 5 speed manual transmission. The most unique feature of Hyundai' Accent Eco is that it comes with separate petrol and LPG fuel tanks with capacity of 45 and 27.2 litres respectively. These fuel tanks provide convenience to the car owners as they can choose to decide what fuel they want to use from both the modes. Accent Eco cars will be delivered to customers only after three times LPG leakage detection test.

Great Wall … it may not have the same ring as Holden, Falcon or any of the other major car manufacturers but I have a suspicion that you’re going to be hearing a whole lot more of it in the very near future … in fact you’ll probably start hearing more about it this week.

While Great Wall may not have much of a ring to it … and Wingle definitely doesn’t give you a subconcious image of strength and reliability … those are the names that you are going to be hearing about as Great Wall launches it’s first vehicle in Australia during this coming week.

Unlike most new manufacturers who launch in Australia with a sedan Great Wall is launching with two 4-door utes. The Wingle shown here is the 2.4 litre version and the two-wheel drive version will start here at around $23,990

This version will have a 2.4 litre petrol engine – 5 speed manual – leather seat trim – airconditioning – power steering – central locking but no airbags. The 2.2 litre version will have the same specs but will start at $19,990. 4WD versions will also be available

And that price point is the reason that you will be hearing more about them. At that price and roadside assistance on a three year warranty these utes will look rather attractive to your average cash-strapped tradie.

New Car Sales In Australia Increase in June
The job market might have contracted in the United States and maybe even a little here in Australia but the Australian Government’s incentives to keep the economy moving seem to have worked in June. In fact it’s been the third highest selling month on record!

The latest new vehicle sales data shows encouraging results with clear signs the market has been boosted by strong, additional demand from business sales. Official VFACTS data released by the Federal Chamber of Automotive Industries (FCAI) shows that 102,847 passenger cars, SUVs and commercial vehicles were sold in June 2009.

This is the third highest selling month on-record, following 106,541 in June 2008 and 105,097 in June 2007.

“The June results are encouraging and a positive sign for the new vehicle market and the Australian economy,” FCAI Chief Executive Andrew McKellar said.

“This is the third highest selling month on-record and only the fourth time ever that sales have exceeded 100,000 units in a single month,” he said.

Business purchases in June were 46,679 – a 12 per cent increase on a year ago. In particular, sales of utes, vans and light trucks have surged by 26.9 per cent compared to June 2008.

“The surge in business sales is directly attributed to the Federal Government’s business tax break and these figures provide clear evidence that this has been a very effective policy measure,” Mr McKellar said.

“Our analysis indicates that the business tax break has led to an additional 10,000 vehicles being sold over the past three months. That is a 10 to 12 per cent boost to business sales and a five per cent increase for the total market,” he said.

“This is additional turnover of between three-and-four-hundred million dollars that is providing a direct boost to the car industry as well as other local businesses throughout the Australian economy,” Mr McKellar said.

“The tax break is classic stimulus; it is giving businesses the confidence to invest in their own future and securing jobs in the industry,” Mr McKellar said.

Year-to-date 455,223 new vehicles have been sold, down 16.1 per cent (87,472) compared to the same period last year.

Insurance : How Much Is Too Much?

It seems that insurance can be bought for just about every conceivable device or potential eventuality. In the news, celebrities insure those body parts for which they are famous, while the latest games consoles, PCs and even watches are subject to extended warranty deals, designed to have the buyer part with even more of their hard-earned cash.

Celebrities insuring their bodies – or the sum of their parts – are nothing new. In fact, celebrity insurance can be traced back to the 1920s when cross-eyed silent movie star Ben Turpin insured his eyes for $20,000 against them uncrossing. Other famous celebrity insurance policies include Marlene Dietrich’s $1 million insurance of her voice, Dolly Parton’s $600,000 breast insurance and Ken Dodd’s $4 million cover for his teeth! Bette Davis even insured herself against weight gain to the tune of $28,000; but all this pales in comparison to ‘Lord of the Dance’ star Michael Flatley’s Â£25 million insurance of his legs!

However, for the vast majority of people, there is little need for such extravagant insurance cover, but even so there are still many types of insurance cover available, making it difficult to know what is necessary and what is not.

When trying to work out which insurance policies you need, it’s probably a good idea to start with those that are required by law. For the general public, only motor insurance is a legal requirement for drivers in the UK; so if you have plans to take to the open road, or indeed are already on it, then motor insurance isn’t just a choice but a necessity. You can expect to face heavy fines, and even imprisonment if you are caught driving without car insurance. Furthermore, car insurance is required when it comes to taxing your vehicle.

While home insurance isn’t a legal requirement, many mortgage lenders will insist that you have buildings insurance before they will consider any home loan. But, just because it isn’t a legal requirement doesn’t mean it’s unnecessary. Home insurance is available as two separate products – buildings insurance and contents insurance and each can be bought separately, although most insurers now offer discounts when both are bought together. As the name implies, buildings insurance protects the structural elements of your home, while contents insurance protects your possessions.

If you travel regularly, then perhaps travel insurance may be a consideration. Again, while not a legal requirement, it can cover any expense incurred while you are travelling, especially outside the UK where you would be expected to pay for any treatment you receive in the event of an accident. Furthermore, travel insurance can help alleviate the loss of your luggage, flight delays or should you lose your currency or credit cards. There are many travel insurance packages available, from family cover on a single trip to annual policies covering unlimited journeys, while specialist policies are also available for things not covered within normal agreements, such as ski equipment.

How would your family cope should you ever be involved in an accident that stops you from working, or even worse, kills you? A life insurance policy can provide for those eventualities by paying out a lump sum, which can help stave off any financial hardship. Life insurance is often linked to a mortgage as this is normally the main expense that a family will have to deal with, and although singletons and couples without children might not need life insurance, it should be considered by families with children.

If you have pets, then pet insurance might be an idea. Given the fact that veterinary treatment can cost more than Â£1000 to mend a dog’s broken leg, pet insurance can help alleviate the financial burden associated with treating sick or injured family pets.

However, while there are undoubtedly insurance policies that merit consideration, there are also those which many people can certainly live without! For example, while many people gripe and grumble about NHS waiting lists, the fact of the matter is that the NHS is paid for by public taxes and treatment is free. In light of the huge waiting lists for treatment, there is now a market for private medical insurance which can be used to circumvent the NHS queues and obtain treatment quicker; but private medical insurance can be costly, and not every ailment is covered.

Even consumer goods haven’t escaped the insurance add-on, and now everything from watches to mobile phones can be insured against loss or damage. However, in many cases the insurance can cost you almost as much again as the cost to buy the item in the first place! Furthermore, the vast majority of items are likely to be covered by a good home insurance policy anyway. There might be some caveats, however, such as tradesman’s tools or musical instruments which might benefit from a specialised policy, so be sure to check with your insurer.

But while insurance is undoubtedly beneficial in many situations, it is less so in others. Despite what the salesman tells you, you don’t need insurance for everything – the trick is to know what you need and what you don’t!

Totally drool worthy to say the least, the Ferrari P 4/5 by Pininfarina is perhaps one of those few supercars in the world that truly reflect the passion that its creators and owners have for automobiles. Custom made for stock exchange tycoon and known car collector James Glickenhaus by Italian car design firm and coachbuilder Carozzeria Pininfarina, the P4/5 is a privately-commissioned custom one-car rebody of the 60’s famous Enzo Ferrari. The design was based on Jason Castriota’s sketches created in accordance with the client’s specifications with more than 200 new components. The P4/5 however, retained the original Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) with slightly modified engine and drivetrain.

The Machine

Powered by a mid-rear 6L Ferrari F140 V12 engine, a 6 Speed semi-automatic transmission and twin plate clutch, the P 4/5 comes with a Berlinetta body frame. The supercar features a sharp nose and smooth curves that give it a drag coefficient of only 0.34. The yummy one-off also comes with custom interiors including an iPod nano compatible stereo and a tablet PC with GPS navigation as well as a 3D model of the car and a complete parts list and servicing manual.

The Thrill

The P 4/5 can go from 0-100 kmph in just 3.0 seconds with a top speed of 362 kilometers per hour which is just slightly higher from the performance of the original Enzo. With a rumored 6,000 miles under it, we dare say Glickenhaus has really been getting his weekend kicks with the super beauty. And just in case you weren’t already dying of envy, throw a glance at the video vignette below that Brad Farrell, owner and operator of Kilnjox Media, came up with featuring Glickenhaus and his car.

Ferrari has now modified the rear exhaust outlets of its new F60 single seater, after rivals expressed concern about the launch design’s legality.

Numerous teams, including McLaren-Mercedes, BMW-Sauber and Toyota, had questioned the design of the exposed exhaust pipes.

It was reported that the 2009 Ferrari contravened the new bodywork regulations cracking down on aerodynamic appendages like winglets and other accessories.

It now emerges that Ferrari has modified the design so that the pipes do not protrude beyond the allowed tolerance above the surface of the bodywork.

It should be noted that Ferrari’s controversial design complied with the original 2009 regulations, but a clarification about exhaust pipes was subsequently made in September by FIA technical delegate Charlie Whiting.
