Astra GTC

I’m a big fan of the Astra Sports hatch because I think looks really good and by all accounts it handles pretty well so, for what is basically a 3 door versions of a family hatch back, it’s an all round good car.
This is probably proven by how many you see on the roads today but that’s just the proof in the pudding I suppose.

Anyway, as Vauxhall’s latest Astra has been a around for a year now so it’s almost time for them to release the next reincarnation of the 3 door Astra. This time is codenamed the GTC and it looks just as impressive as it’s predecessor.
You’ll get to choose from a 1.4-litre petrol engines producing 117bhp and 137bhp, a 1.6-litre turbo producing 175 bhp and a 2.0-litre diesel with 160bhp and 280lb ft of torque.

They’ll also be a VXR version available next year if you want even more power.

I think I might have to add this to my wish list!

Used Car Finance

If you’re looking to replace your car but can’t afford a new car and have poor credit then you’ll know that it can be difficult trying to finance it.
A cousin of mine has recently moved back to the UK and is trying to get himself a used car but is having severe trouble because he has low credit score.
I’ve had look around for him personal leasing is definitely a no go so a loan would be the next alternative but that has also seen negative feedback.
There are a few companies out there who try to help people with poor credit but they seem to charge a ridiculous APR on their loans because of the supposed high risk.

You would have thought that with the Economy the way it that there would be some sort of initiative in place to help people spend money and help the Country back on its feet. This doesn’t seem to be the case, especially in my Cousins case where his credit rating is only poor because he’s been out of the Country.

If anybody knows a way of buying a decent used car on finance, or by loan, with bad credit please let me know.

Car Leasing

I’m thinking of getting new car so I’ve started browsing the web looking for the right car at the right price, as you do.
However, the first thing I need to do is decide whether or not to purchase the car out-right, get a loan or finance.
The one further option that’s tempting me is personal car leasing which seems to be very popular at the moment.
Having surfed a few leasing websites I’ve found really good deals where you pay a deposit and then a monthly fee for three to five years.
The only downside I can see at the moment is that you never actually own the car but you can just hand it over at the end of the contract and swap it for another and start again with brand new car.

Moon Buggy The Sequel

You’ll have probably noticed from my previous posts this month that I’m an avid fan of Top Gear and so it is that my final post of the month continues along the same theme.
Last night’s show featured the legendary icons, the Porsche 959 and Ferrari F40, whilst Jezza raised the new Jaguar XJ against the rotation of the Sun.
However, my favourite vehicle featured on the show and driven by James May had to be the new Moon Buggy or the Space Exploration Vehicle (SEV) as it’s known at NASA.
It’s completely different to the previous moon buggy the Lunar Electric Rover (LEV) because it packs a pressurised cabin in which two Astronauts can live for up to two weeks.
When the Astronauts need to exit the vehicle to step foot on the moon they do so by entering their spacesuits which are attached directly to the rear of the vehicle. The suits are attached via an airlock docking hatch so there is no need to depressurise the habitat module.
The habitat area contains a small bathroom, workbench, tool cabinet and two seats which convert to beds.
It’s a completely different machine to the previous design which was basically a go-kart for the moon. The new one is a mobile work station capable of exploring and travelling much further.

Honestly, I’ve never seen James May happier.

New Jag and Aston

As it approaches Friday evening there’s a Euro Millions rollover of £36m up for grabs so I’ve bought my numbers in hope of a life changing outcome. So, like everyone else who plays the lottery, I’ve started to imagine what I would by with the winnings.
Firstly, I would obviously by a big house but it would have to have a big garage because my next purchase would be a couple of sports cars, again obvious I know.
Whilst at the supermarket this afternoon I noticed the latest edition of Top Gear magazine features an article on the new Aston Martin Virage and the latest Jaguar 550bhp XKR-S.
The Aston Virage looks, as expected, stunning and fits right between the DB9 and DBS and features a 6.0 litre V12 delivering 490bhp with an asking price of £150,000.
The Jag, which has the Audi R8 and Porsche 911 in its sights, packs a supercharged 5.0-litre V8 producing 550bhp, a top speed of 186mph and will go from 0-60mph in 4.2 seconds. Impressive stuff from a car costing £90,000.

So which one should I pretend to buy? I suppose if I won £36m I could buy both or one for each day of the week!

New Hot Hatches

I watched the latest episode of Top Gear on Sunday and saw Jeremy Clarkson test drive three super hot hatches, the Subaru Impreza Cosworth, the Ford Focus RS500 and the Volvo C30 Polestar.
Of the three cars you would have thought that the Subaru, with its history and Cosworth on board, would have been the one to beat but no. It was the Ford and Volvo that stole the show and left Clarkson more than satisfied.
The RS500 is a 350bhp limited edition version of the magnificent RS but all 500 production models have already been sold. However, it was the Volvo that impressed the most with its raw power and superb handling but unfortunately there is a very big downside. After watching the 4WD 405bhp C30 drive effortlessly around the track Jeremy announced that the car was merely a prototype, gutted!

The Volvo looked awesome and apparently handled amazingly well. With it’s 2.5 litre turbo engine Developing 510Nm and achieving 0-62mph in just 4.6 seconds it’s a shame that Volvo are putting it into production.

Let’s hope they change their mind.

Pagani Zonda Replacement

I’m sure the Pagani Zonda is on most peoples ultimate “when I win the lottery” wish list due to its awesome power, handling and its eccentric design.
However, there might now be another sports car on your wish list because Pagani have revealed the replacement to the Zonda, the Huayra (not sue on the correct pronunciation yet).
I first saw a picture of the new car on Sunday’s Top Gear and it does look amazing despite not looking as bonkers as the Zonda. The 1million Euro beast, which has taken seven years to develop, will be displayed at the Geneva motor show in March.
As for performance the Italian motor house is claiming that the we will see a top speed of 230mph and 0 - 62mph in 3.3 seconds.
There will be a standard version of the bi-turbo 6.0-litre V12 AMG engine producing 700bhp and 664lb ft as well as a sport version with 730bhp and 811lb ft.

If you like cars, which I’m sure you do because you’re reading this blog, then you must like Top Gear. If so, you’ll be more than familiar with the Cool Wall? Well, if you buy the latest edition of Top Gear Magazine you’ll get a free mini Cool Wall to display on your fridge. Oh yes, the boffins at Top Gear have re-created the Wall in magnet format so that you and your friends can argue over which cars are cool, uncool, sub zero or seriously uncool.
The giveaway also lets you decide which of the presenters fall in to these categories. I opted to put Richard Hammond in the seriously uncool sections, Jeremy uncool, James May cool whilst I opted to put The Stig in the sub-zero section as it’s difficult to pigeon hole someone who sleeps upside down like a bat and is wanted by the CIA!

Citroen offers ‘No VAT’ deal to its customers

Citroen has extended an olive branch to customers by making the purchase of a brand new car more affordable by offering numerous value-for-money deals and credit-crunch busting. Effective January 2009, the company now offers a ‘No VAT’ deal on Citroen C4, C4 Picasso, Berlingo Multispace, C-Crosser and C8, while it is providing finance on Citroen C3, C4, C3 Pluriel, C5, C8 and Xsara Picasso.

The exceptional ‘No VAT’ by company meant that it would forgo 15% VAT on models and enable hard pressed customers to save more than £3,600 while becoming proud owner of brand new Citroen.

The company is also offering three years zero percent finance without any deposit on some of Citroen C3 and Citroen C4 models, while new car buyers would be able to drive away brand new C3 Pluriel, C3, C4 and C5 or C8 with zero percent, two years finance. Customers would also be eligible for 3-years zero percent finance on family favourite Xsara Picasso.

Managing Director, Xavier Duchemin, of Citreon UK, believes that value for money gets paramount importance particularly during tough financial climate. He claimed that Citroen’s ability in offering economical solutions to customer for owning a new car is a major contributor to company’s success in improving market share over recent months.
