Fans of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park were relieved last week when the state Division of Motor Vehicles resumed sales of a unique cheap car number plates that feature a black bear against green mountains. Last year, the General Assembly moved to eliminate the multicolor designs used on license plates. The Smokies plate money helps the National Park pay for exhibits, children’s field trips, and other visitor amenities. It also helps with efforts to reintroduce elks and protect bears.

Days after the terror attack on a Israeli diplomat, the envoys and visiting dignitaries of that country have started travelling in cars with local cheap number plates instead of diplomatic vehicles. Official sources have said that so far no decision has been taken in allowing Israeli diplomats in India to use local number plates in their cars instead of the CD numbers. Security concerns prompted the Israeli Embassy putting up the request, the sources said.

Police carry out car number plate operation

Police carry out a operation to stop theft of car license plates. Most of the thefts have been carried out at car garage units in Bradford UK. Police were stationed at Morrisons, in Girlington, to change cheap number plate screws making them more difficult for thiefs to steal. Another tactic police used was the Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) to be used in a data base to monitor cars for violations. Police reported a total of 2,800 cars being registered.

Police are asking for witnesses to help with a large number of thefts involving vehicles. Thieves have been targeting cheap car number plates, catalytic converters, diesel and other items. Items stolen from inside the vehicles have ranged from fuel, clothing, tools, laptops and mobile phones. Vehicle crime has an adverse economic effect to the local community, and the police are urging residents to ensure that their vehicles are not left vulnerable to crimes.”

Fans of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park were relieved last week when the Division of Motor Vehicles resumed sales of a unique cheap cherished number plate. More than 20,000 car owners pay an extra $30 anually for the Smokies license plate. The money helps the National Park Service pay for exhibits and children’s field trips. It also bankrolls efforts to reintroduce elks and protect bears. There’s a chance the General Assembly will change its mind about this making park supporters worried that the bear’s days are numbered.

Summons for ‘fancy’ car plate

A motorist was surprised when a traffic policeman summoned a car belonging to his wife for having the “Putrajaya” registration plate. The police claims the word “Putrajaya” was too fancy and was an offense under the Road Transport Act. The motorist said he was told by RTD that the cheap number plate conformed with standard size and he’ll refuse to pay because he would rather have his day in court.

North Carolina designer cheap number plates bring in revenue for supporters of National Park. However, controversy erupts over design change. Friends of the Smokies, a non-profit group has collected 2.7 million dollars since 1999, as well as 6.7 million from a similar plate in Tennessee. The State legislator had proposed changes in the color scheme in the eye catching plates, raising the ire of the non-profit.
