The Armor All Gold Coast 600 kicks off in less than two days and the rain has arrived in preparation! However with better weather scheduled for the weekend there will be no stopping the race drivers and spectators from having a great event.

The modified circuit will see the Gold Coast 600 track length reduced from 4.7km to 2.96km. The revised layout will allow for a better spectacle, providing spectators greater on-track action and more entertainment opportunities. Not only will the viewing be enhanced, the modified track layout and design will shorten construction time and reduce disruption to the local traffic and residents. The condensed track is set to free up approximately 40 per cent of the local area, whilst reducing the length of set-up and take down of the track by approximately five weeks in total.

Construction begins for Gold Coast's biggest party

Construction has begun on the The Armor All Gold Coast 600 on the famous Gold Coast street circuit. The first overhead bridge crossing the Gold Coast Highway has been installed and proudly displays the catch phrase ‘Get the party started’ to Gold Coast travelers as the countdown to the October 22-24 event continues.

The Armor All Gold Coast 600, in a continuance of V8 Supercar’s highly successful Rock N Race format, will see the Gold Coast treated to non-stop entertainment over the three days and nights of October 22-24 and give the city the opportunity to let down its hair across three days of racing and three nights of world class entertainment.

Each day will see 18 international stars paired with the 29 home-grown heroes of the V8 Supercar Series taking to the concrete jungle of the Gold Coast street circuit, with the skills of these drivers – some of the best in the world – to truly be put to the test by the Aussie V8 Supercar machines and their unique style.

When the checkered flag has flown at the end of each day, 600 Sounds presented by Hard Rock will fire up each night at the Broadwater Parklands entertainment precinct, bringing together a wide range of musical acts across a whole range of genres.

Drivers will include former Formula One World Champion Jacques Villeneuve, three time Indy 500 winner Helio Castroneves, North America’s most successful road course racer and 1997 Gold Coast winner Scott Pruett and Indy 500 winner, Gold coast winner and reigning IndyCar champion Dario Franchitti just to mention a few.

Air NZ launches four ways to fly

Air New Zealand has introduced four new travelling options on flights between New Zealand and Australia. Following a successful trial on services between Christchurch and Sydney, the roll out of the new 'Seats to Suit', will give customers flying between Australia and New Zealand the choice of Seat, Seat + Bag, The Works and Works Deluxe options.

"The new options enable customers to choose the level of product that suits them for each leg of their journey." say Air NZ. Customers who take the 'Seat' and 'Seat + Bag' options will still have access to standard airline provisions such as complimentary in-flight entertainment, tea, coffee and water.

The airline's 'Seats to Suit' options are on sale now for flights from 17 November between New Zealand and Australia with fares starting from $109 one way for a limited time.

Cairns is enhancing tourist access on all fronts. The Far North Queensland city has recently upgraded its airport at a cost of AUD200 million and is about to start work on improving road entry to the city.

Now, Royal Celebrity Tours and Princess Cruise have given the AUD11.2 million Cairns cruise terminal their seal of approval.

The new Cairns facility will allow vessels to berth within walking distance of the CBD, as with ports like Sydney and Seattle.

Last year, 50 cruise ships visited Far North Queensland, injecting more than $12 million into the region’s economy.

Queensland Autospectacular at Willowbank

Willowbank Raceway will team up with the Buick Car Club of Australia (Qld.) from April 2011 to hold the all-new Queensland Autospecacular at Willowbank Raceway.

The Buick Car Club initiated and was responsible for the highly successful Cleveland Autospectacular for the previous ten years. The all new Queensland Autospectacular event will take place at Willowbank Raceway on the 10th of April, 2011.

With the closure of the Cleveland Autospectacular through urban and other pressures the Buick Club saw this as the perfect opportunity to team with the Willowbank management team to create an all new show for 2011.

Along with the new name and venue will come a number of other new features, including the chance for show car entrants, traders and sponsors to race their cars on the Ipswich drag strip during the event in a Test ‘n’ Tune scenario.

Jetstar, the low cost airline, has announced that it will operate a new Auckland–Cairns route three times a week from 12 April 2011 which is fantastic news for the Tropical North Queensland tourism industry. Jetstar’s new services will contribute more than 500 seats to the region’s international capacity from New Zealand each week. This represents a 47% increase in international seat capacity from New Zealand to Cairns.

Melbourne has scored another major sporting coup with Tiger Woods confirming he will return to defend his Australian Masters title at Victoria Golf Club in November, for his only Australian appearance in 2010.

Over 100,00 people are expected to flock to the tournament and is tipped to be as successful as the 2009 Masters which injected $34 million into the Victorian economy – almost double the pre-tournament prediction of $19 million, with nearly 40% of visitors coming from interstate or overseas.

New rectangular stadium to open in style

Next month, Darling Harbour in Sydney will feature four giant screens broadcasting all 64 games of the FIFA 2010 World Cup live - over the four-week Sydney International FIFA Fan Fest.

Sydney is one of six official international host sites and the only city in the Asia-Pacific. The other exclusive hosts are Paris, Rome, Berlin, Mexico City and Rio de Janeiro.

The four screens - three on floating stages - will give football fans round the clock coverage of the FIFA World Cup - from Friday 11 June to Monday 12 July 2010. They will also beam images of Sydney back to the world including the city, its fans, performances and events.

Australia's first match, scheduled for Monday 14 June against Germany, will take place at 4:30 am AEST, which is the Queen's Birthday public holiday.
