32nd Annual Orange Park Fall Festival!

Well hello again all my Cara's Creations fans and readers! It has been a while since you have seen a blog from me, and some of you, possibly non-Facebook fans, might have been wondering if I am still blogging, if I am still making jewelry, and will I be doing the fall Festival again this year in Orange Park..? Well, I am happy to tell you Yes, yes, and YES!

I had taken a few months off for a much needed vacation and relaxation, but the jewelry gods have begun to rumble again, with the fall and Christmas seasons coming up…

And for the past 2 to 3 months, I have been very busy trying to prepare for the fall Festival in Orange Park, this Saturday and Sunday, October 18th and 19th from 10 AM to 5 PM. It is located at the Town of Orange Park Town Hall, located at 2042 Park Avenue in Orange Park.

Cost & Parking Information:

The Fall Festival is a free public event and everyone of all ages are invited to attend.

Parking will be available at Moosehaven, (orange buildings on the left hand side of 17 after exiting the Buckman, right before you get to Kingsley). They have a shuttle service running throughout the day and some space will be available closer to Town Hall .

This year will be our 32nd Annual Event, and it will be bigger and better than ever. Two full days filled with music, food, fun, crafts, vendors and entertainment.

Cara's Creations will be in booth 11 this year, which is right in front of the Townhall building. I am so excited to be participating again, this will be my third year. I have a new tent, a slightly different booth setup, and a whole bunch of new stuff LOL! :)

So come on out and see me, bring the kids and family, or the hubby if you can talk him into coming… And there's plenty to see, eat and do for everybody - families, couples, singles, doggies too!

New Year and New Stuff

Hello and Happy New Year to all my Cara's Creations readers! The last quarter of 2013 was the busiest I've ever been, and I want give a big thanks to all my family, friends, customers, and readers who help made it happen.

Now that we're into the new year, I wanted to show you just a few different styles I thought would be fun to create, and of course wear.

First, I'll show you this showier fashion statement necklace. It has hand wired fire-polished amber color faceted crystals around the neckline. They lead into the eye-catching silver-plated ring. And from the ring you see the gorgeous large faceted agate stone. It is flat on the back, so it rests nicely on the lower chest. Many have remarked on how unique the stone looks because of the mix of mostly amber color with a subtle hint of dark orchid running through. Finally, from the agate hangs a fun embellished hollow metal ball and tassle. Let me tell you, it looks fabulous and even better worn!

Next is a slight change up in the tube necklace, with this sleek and organic looking Metallic Agate with Cultured Pearls Tube Necklace. It is very unique and modern looking with it's sleek yet organic looking column-shaped Agate stones and slim metal tubes. I added a wonderful touch of sea and visual variety with the cultured pearls, nestled between the stones and tubes. Love this necklace, and need I say metallic grey matches everything! :)

And last on my list of neat things to show you, is a request for my friend Charlene. Charlene wanted to see this really sparkly striped rhinestone large tear drop she heard that I have. It has two different tones of purple - a dark orchid and a lighter shade of lavendar, which helps make it a great match to most purply outfits. It, however, is not attached to a necklace yet. The picture you see below is a sample. Since I haven't made a necklace yet for this particular purple rhinestone, I used a different necklace to model it with so you can see how it would generally look. (The purple model necklace is $27 in case you're wondering)

Ok that's all the pics for now folks. Also new this year, I will be making a more modern take on the rosary type necklace. The longer ones with a larger cross on the bottom and smaller crystals on chain. That's partially due to making one for my friend Stacy, and other ladies that have seen how pretty they are, wanted to grab one for themselves as well.

Town of Orange Park Fall Festival Excitement- October 19th & 20th

Well it's that time again folks for the Town of Orange Park Fall Festival! With over 30,000 people predicted to attend, it is one of the larger festivals in Jacksonville. It's both Saturday 9am - 6pm and Sunday 11am - 5pm. There'll be face painting, live bluegrass entertainment such as The Roys and David Ball, bouncy houses, playground, skateboarding demos and much, much more! There are over 250 vendors and very few are similar type vendors, meaning you will see a wide variety of arts, crafts and food. The popular Rock Wall will be back, as well as other fun events going on throughout the day. New this year, a shuttle bus at Moosehaven will be running to and from the park both days so you can either park your own car, or park and be shuttled to the park. And did I mention the festival is free?!

It's gonna be huge and happening 2 event, so don't miss out! The Town Hall is the big building in the middle of the park, and Cara's Creations is nestled along the outside wall, on the side near the Main Music Stage. If you entered through the bottom Entrance where the Shuttle Stop and Rock Wall is at, you can go straight ahead to the big building which is the Town Hall, and we're along the wall.

I look forward to seeing many new faces, and of course many returning faces as well. I'll be making new jewelry up until go time so new stuff will be there! :)

Blessed in Ireland

I just had to do a quick blog on this special necklace made for one of my special customers, Diane. She and her family went to Ireland and got to see many of the beautiful sites. She brought back these 3 emblems blessed by a priest from the Catholic church- a cross and two charms with St Patrick on them.

I was so honored and delighted to create a necklace with her cherished pieces from Ireland. She of course wanted the cross and charms hanging on the bottom, and I added an ethereal mix of crystals, pearls and barrel cat eye for an updated yet still classic look. I know she's going to love it. :)

Olive Faceted Cracked Agate and Rhinestone Cross Bracelet

I just found out I've been accepted again to be in the Annual Orange Park Fall Festival this October 19th and 20th. I am soooo excited! :)

Here's a quick preview of a cross bracelet done with semi precious faceted cracked agate stone in a beautiful mix of olive, green and white colors. Thanks to the wonderful folks at Cherry Tree Beads in North Carolina, whose store has a multitude of different stones, crystals, pearls, rhinestone beads and more, I'll be making plenty more of these bracelets, necklaces and rings in various stones and materials.

Of course, I'll also have more of my all-time fave Kumihimo, or Japanese weaving, style bracelets and necklaces.

For my regulars, some of you have been asking for me to post my newest jewelry. I must confess for the last few weeks I've been happily in beading bliss land with taking new orders and other shenanigans.

I just wanted to give a quick shout out to all of those who came out today. I appreciate and enjoy everyone who stops by my booth - of course I don't mind purchases either lol, but purchases are optional. I love all the compliments and comments, and meeting new Cara's Creations fans.

I cherish repeat customers especially. A gentleman had driven all the way from Lake Asbury to get my card again and to see if the necklace his wife liked was still available. He had bought her the Emerald Kumihimo necklace previously, but she also liked the Cobalt Blue one as well and he wanted to buy it too. Unfortunately, it had been sold a ways back but luckily I can make her another one. She's also considering having me design and create the necklaces for her daughter's wedding, so I'm excited.

Orange Park Arts & Farmers Market - March 10, 2013

Okay, okay... I know it's officially called the Farmers' and Arts Market. But pleading my case, there are usually fewer than 20 farmers but between 70-100 artists/crafters. Since I'm one of the artists/designers/crafters, it sounds a little fairer with my title. :)

So without further ado, come see Cara's Creations at the Orange Park Arts' and Farmers' Market Sunday, March 10th. We'll all be there from 11am - 4pm and it's supposed to be great weather - 70's and sunny, ahh Florida.. Perfect for walking around and checking out all or some of the 91 art/craft and food vendors. Local produce will also be on-hand, so you can even get some grocery shopping done while you're there. You could tell the hubby you went grocery shopping, and do a little 'you' shopping or Mother's Day shopping, because you got the onions, lettuce and tomatoes you needed - he he.

One of my favorite vendors, Judy with Love to Knit will also be there and in the tent next to me. She is so creative, inventive and talented with her knitted scarves, hats, shawls etc. But what I also really like about this market is the variety of the vendors. There are no more than 3 of the same kind of vendors. So you won't see all pottery, or all paintings, or even all jewelry for that matter. It's a good mix which makes it really different and fun, I always look forward to finding a talent or craft I might not have seen before.

We'll all be on the corner of Kingsley and US-17, at the Town Center, hope to see you there!

Great Turnout at Orange Park Farmer's and Art's Market this past weekend 2/10!

I had such a great time with all the people who came out this past weekend! Met some new customer's, saw some old ones, and said hi to many new browsers. Just wanted to say thanks to all of those who stopped by and looked at many of my sparkly jewelry goodies, and say a special thanks to those who even bought an item or two.

I had mentioned on my Facebook page http://www.facebook.com/pages/Caras-Creations/108729152547776 about a charming couple that really made my day. The wife just loved the Sky Blue and White Necklace which she decided to purchase, but then spied the Twirling Flowers Bracelet. She tried it on too, and absolutely loved it. Her hubby, being the wonderful romantic husband that he is, offered to buy it for her. At first she declined his offer, but he persisted and offered it as a Valentine's Day gift. You should have seen the look in her eyes - they just completely lit up with love and joy! She kept the bracelet on, turned to him, and said, 'this is the best Valentine's Day gift you've ever given me'. Then she leaned over and gave him a big hug and kiss. Awwwww!!! Right? Reminded me of one of those Zales commercials with the open heart necklace LOL!!

Well you know results and experiences can vary, but you too can have this happen when purchasing a Cara's Creations jewelry piece. I receive so many compliments on my jewelry, and get great feedback from customer's who have purchased a Cara's Creations - they say they get a lot of attention, compliments, and get asked where they bought it whenever they where it. I'm usually a pretty humble person, but every now and then I like to toot my own horn lol! It makes me feel like all my hard work, dedication, bead obsessions, and taking over the front room for my Bead studio, have been appreciated and are worth it. It's the little things that make you feel good and touch your heart sometimes, and sometimes you have to take the time and smell the roses. Moments like these are like a gift of roses from my clients. :)

Love is in there air. TV shows, movies, and even TV commercials all have us thinking about showing our special Valentine that we love or think they are special. And just in time for Valentine's Day, I wanted to feature a few new kumihimo designs I've made with tender, loving care. I love the idea of taking two separate totally different pieces - both wonderful as stand-alone parts themselves - and matching them together in perfect harmony that somehow manages to elevate and accentuate their differences, and make them really pop. I sure hope everyone had a safe and Happy New Year! Can't hardly believe it's a new year already. Where did the last year go?

For this new year, I wanted to showcase a couple new items that will be up in the Bayard Cafe, as well as on this blog. The staff are so friendly there, will be glad to show you the jewelry items on display, and did I mention the food...? Delish! My favorites are their breakfast dishes-yummo! And love love their home fries! You gotta try them if you're in the area or want to try a new breakfast/brunch/lunch place.

First up, I want to show you the deep red and polished copper on this Red and Copper T-Style Necklace. Large sumptuous red glass beads and crystal rondelles. And really cool looking copper wrapped around red glass spheres. Going down the middle, there is a unique looking hollow sphere made up of clear, white and rusty red rondelles, a metal copper embellished bead and crystal rondelles to finish it up. Lobster clasp makes it adjustable from 18" up to 20" around the neck-line, the bottom of the 'T' hangs down the chest from 22"-24".

Today's Feature - Royal Blue and Black Crystal Kumihimo Necklace and Bracelet

Due to popular requests and just in time for Black Friday, I'm featuring the Royal Blue and Black Crystal Kumihimo Necklace and Bracelet set again. It has 8 lovely strands of royal blue and black crystals hand woven together in the Japanese weaving style of Kumihimo. There are large blue crystal rondelles wrapping around the back of the neck, and a beautiful magnetic clasp which makes this beauty really easy to wear and, even better, to show off. The bracelet closes with a lobster clasp for adjustability. The crystals on the earrings are the same size as the larger ones on the necklace, near the clasp.

I've also added a picture given to me from a friend at work who bought the necklace, bracelet and earring set. It's so stunning and fabulous! Her friends have been complimenting her and wanting one too, so here you go ladies! :)

Just showing off a couple of all new necklaces in the new T design. It sits a little closer to the neck, which looks good with both higher and lower neckline shirts. It measures about 16 1/2-18" adjustable, but the beads sit prominently near the collar bone. I made me one in crystal metallic blue and got lots of compliments and attention while at work and out and about. Hope you like them! I'll bring them with me to the OP Farmer's/Art's Market this Sunday.

Beautiful in Navy Blue

Ever go to the store with the goal of buying a specific object, and nothing else. In and out right? You get to the store, head towards the general direction of your intended purchase.. and lo and behold, something else also catches your eyes, and you've picked up another gotta have it item on the way (or several..). And hopefully you've remembered to grab what you came for lol! Never fear - it happens to all of us.

Well these fantastic blue globe beads were just such a purchase. I went into the craft store solely with the intent of picking up beads for a customer order on a pair of eyeglass holders. And there those blue beauties were. I saw them out of the corner of my eye, and knew a closer inspection was needed. I just loved the unique black design ontop of the gorgeous navy blue glass globes. After much deliberation, I realized it was definitely a gotta-have-it purchase, and I couldn't bring myself to leave the place without them.

So once I got my newly found goodies home, I decided to weave in navy blue glass pearls for a totally unique effect that really set off the large navy glass globes. The resulting necklace is quite eye-catching, totally different, chic, and really I couldn't wait to share it with you.

What I also think is great about this necklace is its versatility. The simple and elegant necklace can be worn casual with a nice shirt and jeans, khakis, or a skirt. But it also dresses up nicely with an evening top, dress or work outfit.

Navy Blue Glass Globes and Woven Pearls Necklace - $28

Bead addiction satisfied... for now...

Another bead addiction has been temporarily satisfied today at the bead show. I was able to almost stay within my bead budget, and found some great beads that I can't wait to get started on. I really try to find the best deals on trending as well as traditional colors, new and classic stones, crystals, and materials. Not only is my goal to create a piece that will satisfy my creative bug, but also to pass the best deals possible onto my customers, with stylish yet classy new designs and styles. I like to keep my creations beautiful, wearable and fun, and love to throw in surprises and excitement by keeping my customers guessing on what I will make and use next. I'll add subtle nuances, varying colors, textures, and shapes, and use different techniques, styles and current trends to keep things fresh and exciting.

And I try to keep that in mind when I go bead shopping, especially at a larger bead show where you can sometimes have a ballroom full or 2-3 rooms filled with wall to wall beads. But let me tell you folks, it ain't easy.. I really have to discipline myself, because I have been known in the past to attempt to buy everything I see that I like - and I like a lot...

As you will see below, I think I did very well and found some really cool and beautiful beads, as well as a few unique looking ones. I snagged lots of larger crystals with different reflective hues - greenish tints, blue/purples, and oranges - in a variety of shapes - globes, large and smaller drops, flat teardrops, rectangles and hexagons. I also chose a few faceted round quartz in different blue mixed shades, various dark purple and pink glass pearls and crystals, beautiful cherry quartz faceted briolettes and small drops, light pink quartz discs, and large square labradorite. I also scouted out this great light aquamarine jasper mix in graduating size rondelles. Hope you enjoy my finds. Now it's time to put my creative hat on, and make some great jewelry pieces.

Rectangles and Roses Glass Beads Necklace

Not too long ago, I snagged these fabulous large faceted rectangle and rondelle glass beads while satisfying my endless bead obsession at a local bead show. The shine and reflection of the bluish-purple and pink prisms first caught my eye. At closer inspection, I loved how a portion of the glass also has a light smoky quartz look to them, which adds depth and gives the colors some balance. Then on another bead hunt, I got lucky and found these adorable rose glass beads that had a similar reflective shimmer. And don't you just love them too! I used a large cute heart clasp for easy fastening. I displayed the necklace on a black as well as a white surface, so you can see how they appear on both backgrounds. I really wanted to make a longer, flowing, eye-catching necklace that really showed off the quite large-sized brilliant glass, and its multi-reflective colors. It measures 36" adjustable to 40", and will stand out and match wonderfully with your blue, grey, white, pink, and even brown outfits. This is a one-of-a-kind creation, and I believe it turned out simply stunning!

Crazy About Quartz

In one of my recent bead show indulgences, I found these great quartz spheres with beautiful naturally occurring white bands throughout. There is something so magical and majestic to me about mother nature's own hand-crafted beautiful designs. I really loved how the white banding in these quartz pieces sort of glow from within and looked pressed between and bring out the natural greys, greyish-blues, and browns of the semi-precious stones. And similar to another Mother nature creation, snowflakes, I love the variety you can get from quartz because no two rocks are exactly the same. Plus, depending on how and what it was formed from in nature, there are also numerous varieties and categories under quartz to choose from. I've included a few pics of quartz geodes for a small glimpse at how these beautiful natural stones start out as, which are then cut and shaped by us.

I decided to accentuate these banded quartz pieces with cultured pearls that have a satiny brown metallic shine that really make the different shades of grey and brown in the stones pop, and also give added texture. They've been nestled in between a few pieces of Labradorite for extra sprinkles of natural beauty. I added 2 round shell pieces because I liked their silvery glow, and liked how they give luminescent variety between the stones. I also included a few gun metal grey glass beads to keep with the glossy look and feel of the stones. It measures at 18 1/2", and adjusts up to 23".

For the bracelet, alternating colors were used with gun metal, light grey, glossy brown and smoky quartz in glass pearls and metal beads to accentuate the same colors, lustrous look and clean line of the necklace. It fits wrists sizes 5 1/2" up to 8".

Spring is Everywhere!

So it's been a while since my last post. But can you blame me? Spring is everywhere! Everywhere you look are bright, dazzling, wonderful, and huge variety colors on the ground, in the air, all over the clothes and jewelry shops. This has always been my favorite time of year. The air is still mild, sun still gentle on the skin. I just love spring, and being out in it if and whenever possible. So that is my excuse as to the absence of posts lately.. :)

I did want to show you a necklace that was a sort of partnership with a friend at work. She brougt in this beautiful springy colored lanyard - it had these lovely glass chips of green, violet, white, and light amber. She's been a fan of mine for some time now, and appreciates many of the details and craftmanship I put into my work. So when she brought me this lanyard simply attached on a string and said to see what I can do with it, I was excited about fancying it up a bit for her. I went easy on the bling factor, since she wanted to be able to wear the necklace with as many outfits as possible, and didn't want it too fancy. I showed her a few violet and white glass foils, as well as green glass beads and white crystals that I thought would nicely accentuate the violet, green, white colors of the glass pieces. She liked the violet foils the most, so I made sure to use them as the focus beads. Here's how it turned out, hope you like it! I also included a picture of the plain lanyard she started out with, so you can see what she brought me.
