Martyn Lock and Bernard will be at Maindy around 8.30am on Sunday to take names in order to arrange groups and at least try to alleviate some of the chaos of last Sunday.

Would all riders try to aim to be at Maindy by 8.45am to give us time to arrange groups so that the 1st group can leave on or before 9.00am. Groups will then leave in 2 min intervals so the last group will be away by 9.10am.

Obviously no actual numbers or groups can be given at this time but the following are for guidance only and are subject to change.

We anticipate there will be 5 groups.

1st group will be a fast group and led by Mick. There may or may not be a stop and this will be decided on the day. This group will probably average 18+ mph.

Groups 2,3 and 4 will be made up mostly of the middle and intermediate group Sunday riders.

Group 2 will probably average 17.5mph
Group 3 will probably average 17mph
Group 4 will probably average 16.5mph

Ride leaders for these groups will be decided on Sunday and these groups will have a cafe stop.

Group 5 will be led by Bernard and will be the slower group. They will average around 15mph and have a stop arranged 

When you choose the group you would like to ride with, we kindly ask that you stay with that group for the duration, unless you are turning back.

Organised by Becky Aicheler of Castle Bikes, the 2012 Celtic Series  is a new time trial series held in South Wales. The aim of the series is to provide a friendly challenge for clubs  and individuals. We would like to encourage new riders to have a go at time trialling, nevermind your level of fitness and are especially keen to encourage women to have a go.

The Cardiff Ajax Open 10 Mile TT will take place on Saturday 17th March at 2pm in Abercarn R10/16A. Steve MacDonald is organising the event and would appreciate volunteers to marshall. Click here to email Steve for more info.

START – At light standard IF 21 at southern end of layby 0.4 miles north of Abercarn on A467. Proceed southbound, taking 2nd exit at roundabout to continue on A467 to Wattsville roundabout and take 1st exit onto dual carriageway (A467). Proceed on dual carriageway to Risca roundabout (5.16 miles). Turn by circling the roundabout to continue on dual carriageway northbound to Wattsville roundabout. Take 3rd exit signposted Abercarn to continue on A467 single carriageway to take 2nd exit at roundabout to continue to Abercarn. Bear left (WITH GREAT CARE) on unclassified road (2nd entrance signed to Prince of Wales Industrial Estate) and in 200yds

FINISH – At light standard IF463 on left opposite entrance to Bridge Street (cul-de-sac) on right. 10.000 miles.

District Regulation There are double white lines at the start. Any rider turning in the road at the start WILL BE DISQUALIFIED. Please continue for 200 yds past start to turn at road junction

During February the club’s reliability rides will take place. The aim of the reliability rides is to test you and your bike after the festive season and before the cycling season begins. The dates of the rides and predicted routes are detailed below.

There will be more on the format closer to the time but rides leave Maindy as a normal Sunday ride splitting into groups based on ability. All rides leave at 09:30 hrs, with the exception of the 100 where slower and middle groups leave at 09:00 hrs.

It is essential that you carry adequate spares, clothing, food and money. We will always try and keep groups together, but you also need to be self sufficient.

Sunday 5th Feb. Hilly 50. Route is Maindy – Pentrych – Talbot Green – Trebanog Hill – Penrhys Hill – Maerdy – Aberdare – Mountain Ash – Glyntaff – Maindy.

Sunday 12th Feb. 75 miles in 6 hours. Route is Maindy – Glyntaff – Mountain Ash – Hirwaun – Penderyn – Merthyr – Treharris – Glyntaff – Maindy.

Sunday 19th Feb. 100 miles in 8 hours. Route is Maindy – Glyntaff – Merthyr – Storey Arms – Brecon – Bwlch – Crickhowell – Abergavenny – Raglan – Usk – Caerleon – Newport – Maindy.

Maindy, Pontypridd, Trehafod, Porth, Ynyshir, Maerdy, Dare Valley Cafe, Mountain Ash, Abercwmboi, Glyncoch, Pontypridd, Tongwynlais, Maindy. 50 miles lumpy out with 1 climb, flat back.

The middle group will be lead by Rhys Williams and will go:

Pontypridd, Church Village, Llantrisant, Gilfach Goch, Blackmill, Llangeinor, Bridgend and either Ewenny or through the lanes towards Cowbridge.
