Medium group – Pontypridd- llantrisant- pencoed – Bryncethin common –Ewenny (cafe) – Coast road home

Fast group led by Darren Gill – Pontypridd – Treorchy – Bwlch – Bridgend – Ewenny Cafe – Wick – Aberthaw – Rhoose – Barry – Cardiff (65 miles).

Starting form next monday 14th May for 5 weeks (excluding the bank holiday) there will be track bike sessions at Maindy from 7.15pm ish. Suitable for all abilities. You do not need to have ridden a track bike before. We are hoping to do some practice races in the last two sessions.

Please can all those who have the club track bikes at home make sure they return them before the 14th. If you don’t we may have to stop you taking them home. I appreciate some have already returned them, Thankyou.

Arrive early, 7pm, if you wish to use one of the club bikes. You will need to bring your own pedals.

Here are routes for Sunday:

Martyn Stallard will be taking the steady route:

Maindy – Newport flats – Caerleon – Usk (cafe stop) – Newport – Machen – Caerphilly – Taffs Well – Maindy 55 miles

Martyn Lock will be taking out the medium group:

Maindy, Llandaff, Groesfaen, Smeulog Woods, Gilfach, Glynogwr, Blackmill, Coity, Coychurch, Pencoed, Ruthin, Pentre Meyrick, Cowbridge(cafe), Bonvilston, Ely, Maindy. 48 miles. For riders who don`t know this route there are no long hard climbs but there are 6 or more pulls on the way to Cowbridge that are not easy. However no-one will be dropped and we will ALWAYS re-group.

Fast group will be lead by myself

Maindy – Newport(flats) – Cheptow(flats) – Usk – maindy approx (75miles)

Captain Jack

On a course that was heavily affected by the current pattern blustery weather Colin Parry powered his way clear to make it No2 for him in wins of the Ajax organised Betty Pharoah Memorial Legstretchers (E,1,2,3) 70 mile road race in the Vale of Glamorgan.

Delighted on the result he said; ‘It’s the first time I’ve won a road race for a second time- the first time people can say to you it’s luck but to win a second time proves them wrong.’  Since winning in 2009 he admits he was a marked man this time so he sat in the bunch more which was perhaps a wise move given some of the heavy headwinds and crosswinds on the course.

The actuary, with Insurance firm Sanlam, from Lydney in Gloucestershire has recently hit some sort of purple patch in form as this is the third race win in the last 4 weeks not withstanding an excellent overall Green Jersey points win in the 4 day Kerry Group Rás Mumhan in Ireland.

Early in the race a break of 8 riders formed and Hugh Wilson , also of Wilier / Live 2 Ride went with that which meant Parry hadn’t a great incentive to chase it down.

On the final lap, however, Parry led a charge up Death Valley to the final prime to drag a chasing bunch to within 30 seconds striking distance of the leading group of 8 come the final descent on the A48. This is where he went on a solo move and bridged as he came through past the HQ in Corntown. Team-make Hugh Wilson immediately launched an attack as Parry joined and after 2 successive attempts where Parry said, ‘I was obviously hoping to let him go’ the weakening effect on the group of chasing those attacks down allowed Colin to strike out just before the turn for the final tricky climb to the finish to seal his victory.

Meanwhile the regional race was won by Mike Kiss of RPC racing who managed to get a significant gap on the chasing field led by a late charge from a small group.

These included pour very own rider Dave Medhurst who burst up the climb to claim second spot from Deacon Cutterham of NTFO ,with Graeme Boswell, also of the Ajax, in fourth spot. Chapeau to the Ajax team who worked well as a unit to set up Dave – pity for them there was Mike Kiss further up the road!

There were a couple of incidents as the elite race unfolded. The worst involved a Junior with Wilier/ Live 2 Ride. Dan Pearson hit what appears to have been a slippy sunken drain grate on the coast road near Wick and this sent him careering off into a stationary vehicle. Pearson was taken to hospital with a suspected fracture but we’re glad to report the latest is he’s only suffered bruising and a headache and is recovering well.

You will be pleased to hear the Club kit has now arrived. I have used this wet Sunday to sort it all. I am pleased to say I have been able to fill almost all the orders including those received in the last few weeks.

I will bring all the kit that has been pre-ordered to Maindy this Wednesday 2nd May. If the weather is ok I will ride and be available to distribute kit at about 8.15pm. If it’s very wet and I don’t ride I will bring it to Maindy at 7.45pm. We have a committee meeting at 8.30pm so I would be grateful if those that need to pay can have the money ready.

I will bring all the remaining kit to Maindy for the next club night Wednesday 9^th May for those who haven’t sent in orders. The pre-ordered kit will also be there to collect.

The next kit order will be going to Endura before the end of May. Please give me the orders with the money in the next couple of weeks. I suggest you order your winter kit now as delivery times have got much longer.

Legstretchers Event Promotion Team 2012

On 5th May 2012 members of Cardiff Ajax CC will take on the TumbleUp4Life challenge to raise money for the Radiotherapy Project, Cancer Research UK. The challenge is for each cyclist to climb the Tumble as many times as possible, up to 15, in one day. The Tumble is a climb just outside Abergavenny of 6km from 54m altitude up to 512m altitude. Each member has their own reasons for doing this challenge. With your support each rider will push themselves to the limit.
