Spring Gardens has six self-contained flats, each furnished and designed to support young people aged 16 and over in helping them develop confidence, skills, and independence. The development also has a staff flat, providing 24/7 onsite support while also serving as a communal therapeutic space.

Young people will receive support with tenancy management, personal care, education or employment, and daily tasks such as cooking, shopping, and managing finances. They are also encouraged to engage with the local community through clubs, social activities, and events.

Spring Gardens forms part of Horizon’s balanced, responsive, independence-focused, development, guidance and empowerment (BRIDGE) pathway, an approach to supported accommodation that helps bridge the gap between 24/7 and more flexible floating support plans. It aims to offer young people the stability of a safety net with the freedom to grow, adapt, and thrive at their own pace.

An opening event was marked by a ribbon-cutting ceremony led by Amanda Cunningham, Horizon Care & Education Group chief executive officer.

‘Our supported accommodation services play a vital role in providing continuity of care as young people transition from our residential children’s homes. This approach ensures consistency in relationships, routines, and therapeutic support, helping young people feel safe, secure, build strong support networks, and move toward greater independence,’ said Cunningham.

James Barlow, managing director of care and support at Horizon, added: ‘Spring Gardens represents the very best of our new BRIDGE Pathway, providing tailored, therapeutic support alongside opportunities for independence.

‘A key feature of the service is our communal and therapeutic hub, enabling young people to access support and guidance whenever they need it.

‘We look forward to continuing to provide high-quality supported accommodation to young people in Tameside and the surrounding areas.’
