Oriental Insurance Admin Officer Exam Pattern, Papers & Books

This blog post is being made on the eve of the ensuing Oriental Insurance exam for selection of Admin Officers to provide you the prep materials for the exam. Resources available on the net for this exam is very scarce - hardly any sample papers have been posted by anyone. So in absence of same, I am giving the sample papers for similar exam test section-wise

This blog article also follows my previous blog article on Oriental Insurance Recruitment 2012 (Admin Officer) Notification, Eligibility & Form, which introduces you to the Oriental Insurance Admin Officer exam and tells you how to apply for the same.

Oriental Insurance Admin Officer selection process:

Selection Procedure for Oriental Insurance Admin Officer consists of a written exam followed by interview.

Oriental Insurance Admin Officer written exam syllabus/format/pattern:

The written exam for Admin Officer positions in Oriental Insurance consists of both Objective questions as well as Descriptive questions.

The Objective paper consists of following four test sections, the first three test sections are common to all while the fourth test section depends on for which post you have applied.

(i) Test of Reasoning.

(ii) English language.

(iii) Numerical Ability.

(iv) For the posts of Group A to H: Professional knowledge Test.
For the posts of Group I: General Awareness.

The Descriptive Test papers is a test in English language and would comprise of Essay, Precis,Comprehension etc.

Oriental Insurance Admin Officer exam cut-off:

On the basis of relative performance of candidates (i.e. marks scored) in the written exam, Oriental Insurance would decide the cut-off criteria and would call the qualifying candidates for the interview.

Although Oriental Insurance in its job notification has not spelt out any mark distribution and also time duration for the same, I expect the pattern of Oriental Insurance written exam to be similar to a Bank PO exam, which has similar sections, including Descriptive Paper for English proficiency.

Oriental Insurance Admin Officer exam sample online papers:

First thing that you would like to know while preparing for a Oriental Insurance Admin Officer exam is where to find those online sample papers. I did some scouting for you on the net, but could not find any paper specific to Oriental Insurance Admin Officer exam.

PNB MT Recruitment 2012 Notification Eligibility Forms

PNB (Punjab National Bank) has just yesterday issued recruitment notification 2012 for 775 MT (Management Trainees). While the online application forms would be available from 30th January, 2012, the last date to apply online for this PNB MT recruitment is 13th February, 2012.

This blog post of mine tries to throw light on the important points of the notification to help you apply for the same. Towards the end of the article, it also points you to the prep materials for the Punjab National Bank Interview.

If you are a regular reader of this blog, you have come to know that five other public sector banks have so far issued recruitment notification for Bank PO/ Management Trainee positions, based on IBPS CWE 2011 score. You can find the list of these PSU banks with detailed information in the blog articles given below:

Bank of India: 1800 PO. Last date to apply: 31/01/2012.

Syndicate Bank: 1750 PO. Last date to apply: 16/01/2012.

Union Bank : 2473 PO. Last date to apply: 14/01/2012.

Canara Bank recruitment notification 2012 for 2000 Probationary Officers (PO) came out just today, close on the heels of recruitment notification for PO issued by Bank of India, Syndicate Bank, Union Bank, Corporation Bank & Punjab National Bank. Online submission of application forms for Canara Bank PO Recruitment 2012 starts from 30th January and the last date to apply for this recruitment is 15th February,2012.

So, those of you who had appeared in IBPS PO/MT CWE exam 2011 conducted by IBPS on 18.09.2011, this is a golden time as the Indian Public Sector Banks have started recruiting based on IBPS CWE score. Result for the IBPS Exam 2011 had been declared on 12th December, 2011. Only six PSU banks have issued PO recruitment notification for the year 2012 so far, based on IBPS PO/MT CWE exam 2011: Bank of India, Syndicate Bank, Union Bank, Corporation Bank & Punjab National Bank. Oriental Insurance offers the Admin Officers Basic pay of Rs. 17,240/=, in the pay-scale of Rs. 17,240-840 (14)-29000-910 (4)- 32640/=. With this pay scale, salary for admin officer positions in Oriental Insurance per month is Rs. 30,000/= approx.

Oriental Insurance Eligibility for Admin Officer:

Age Eligibility: (as on 01.01.2012)

Min: 21 years, Max: 30 years. Age relaxations exist as per Govt. rule.

Academic Eligibility:

The 477 vacant positions have been categorized into nine groups: Actuaries, Marketing, HR, IT, Accounts, Legal, Engineers, Librarian & Generalists. You need to have 60% in graduation or 55% in PG in your area of specialization - for SC/ST, there is a rebate of 5% marks.

Qualifications should be from any recognised University / Institute duly approved by UGC / AICTE as the case may be.

Final merit list for the selected candidates would be based on combined total of your IBPS CWE score and the Interview.

SSC JE Exam 2012 Notification, Eligibility & Forms

Notification for SSC JE Exam 2012 came out just last Saturday (on 14th January, 2012) for 742 Junior Engineer positions in CPWD, CWC, Department of Post & MES. Last date for application is 10th February, 2012 and the SSC JE Exam 2012 would be conducted on 08.04.2012 (Sunday).

The focus of this blog post is on how to apply for this exam, by quoting the relevant information on dates, eligibility & forms from the above notification. At first, let us begin that by knowing what is SSC JE Exam.

What is SSC JE Exam:

SSC (Staff Selection Commission) is a cousin of UPSC (Union Public Service Commission) and it conducts various recruitment exams for Group “B” & “C” posts in the various Ministries/Departments of Govt. of India and the attached/subordinate offices.

SSC conducts the Junior Engineers (Civil & Electrical) exam every year in the month of March/April for recruitment of Junior Engineers in CPWD (Central Public Works Department), Central Water Commission (CWC) and MES (Military Engineer Services).

SSC JE Salary:

Salary being offered for these Junior Engineer positions is Rs.9300-34800 plus grade pay of Rs.4200.

SSC JE Vacanices:

There are 742 positions open with department-wise, branch-wise vacancies as given at right. Other represents Junior Engineers (Quantity Surveying and Contract) in MES.
In addition to above, number of vacancies for Farakka Barrage & Deptt. Of Post would be notified later.

SSC JE Exam Eligibility:

Age Eligibility: (as on 01.01.2012.)

Min: 18 years, Max.: 27 years for CPWD, Department of Posts and JE (Quantity Surveying & Contract) in MES.
For CWC and Farakka Barrage Max Age is 32 years & for JE (Electrical & Mechanical) in MES, Max Age is 30 years .

You would be sent the call letter for SSC JE Exam 2012 two weeks prior to the exam date (i.e. by around 25.03.2012). The same would be also available on the website of the concerned Regional Office.

If you do not receive your call letter (termed as Admission Certificates by SSC) or can download the same from SSC Regional Office websites, please contact the concerned Regional Office with proof of submission of your forms.

Dates for SSC JE Exam 2013/2014:

Some of you may be appearing the SSC JE exam in a later date and therefore would like to know when SSC JE Exam 2013 would be held. You can find the notification and exam dates for SSC JE Exam 2013 from the following date trend analysis of exam dates of last four SSC JE exams:

As you can find from above, notification of SSC JE Exam 2013 should come out by 1st/2nd Saturday of January 2013. The notification would always come out on the Saturdays, as the same is published in Employment News (which comes out in Saturdays). Last date of application is about a month from the date of notification while the written exam is held on Sundays of March end/April beginning. You can also guess the notification/exam dates of SSC JE Exam 2014 accordingly, based on which you can make your preparations.

BHEL Recruitment 2012 (ET) Notification, Eligibility & Form

BHEL had issued recruitment notification 2012 for 800 Engineer Trainees from the disciplines of Mechanical, Electrical & Electronics. These vacancies are open for freshers. Although the notification had come out in October 2011, the Online application form has become available only from 4th January, 2012. The last date to apply online for this BHEL ET recruitment is 28th January, 2012.

But there is a catch - you can apply for these BHEL jobs only if you had applied for GATE 2012 earlier, last date of form submission for which was already over on 21st October 2011. What are the eligibility and how to apply for these engineer trainee positions in BHEL? This is the subject matter of current blog article.

But before we go further, a small introduction on BHEL.

What is BHEL:

Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL), established in 1953, is the largest engineering and manufacturing enterprise in India in the energy-related/infrastructure sector and is also one of leading power generation equipment manufacturers in the world. The company has been earning profits continuously since 1971-72 and is paying dividends since 1976-77.

BHEL manufactures over 180 products under 30 major product groups and caters to core sectors of the Indian Economy viz., Power Generation & Transmission, Industry, Transportation, Telecommunication, Renewable Energy, etc. The wide network of BHEL consists of 14 manufacturing divisions, four Power Sector regional centres, over 100 project sites, eight service centres and 18 regional offices.

BHEL is on a rapid expansion mode - it plans to become a Rs. 45,000 crore company by 2011-12 and double that amount by 2016-17.

BHEL ET Recruitment process:

From 2012 onwards, there has been a major change in how BHEL is going to recruit Engineer Trainees - till 2011, BHEL used to conduct its own Written recruitment test which was of 2 hour duration having two papers: Aptitude & Technical. The selection process for ET was hence: Written Test -> GD/Interview.

But from 2012 onwards BHEL is not going to conduct the written test itself - it is going to use the GATE (Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering) scores to shortlist the candidates for its further selection process. The changed selection process form now onwards would be GATE-> GD/Interview.

Hence for the ET positions in BHEL from now onwards, you have to appear in GATE relevant to your discipline and do well in the same, so that you can be shorlisted by BHEL for GD & Interview.

GATE 2012 scores of applicants would be used to shortlist the candidates for Interview. Almost 2400 candidates are expected to be shortlisted as the ratio used by BHEL is 1:3 for each category/discipline. In the final merit list 75% weightage would be given to GATE 2012 score and 25% for Interview.

Branch-wise BHEL ET vacancies for 2012:

A total of 800 ET vacancies exists: Mechanical(550), Electrical(175) & Electronics(75).

BHEL ET Salary:

Salaries offered by BHEL for ET is: pay scale of Rs. 20600-46500/- at the basic pay of Rs. 20600/- during one-year training. With this pay scale, minimum CTC is Rs. 7.5 lakhs/annum. Post training pay scale is Rs.24900-50500/- with a basic pay of Rs.24900/-. This is apart from other benefits.

Eligibility for BHEL Engineer Trainee :

Age Eligibility: (as on 01.08.2012)

Maximum 27 years (DOB earlier than 01/08/1985 are not eligible) if you are a BE/B.Tech.
Maximum 29 years (DOB earlier than 01/08/1983 are not eligible) if you are a PG in Engineering or Business Administration/Management with basic degree in Engineering.

Age relaxations exists for reserved categories.

Final year students can also apply provided you can submit your final mark sheet by 20th August, 2012

Educational Eligibility:

Bachelor’s degree holders in Engineering /Technology (4 years after 10 +2 ) / or Five year integrated Master’s degree or Dual Degree programme in Engineering or Technology in the disciplines of Mechanical /Electrical /Electronics Engineering.

If you have engineering degree in some other allied disciplines as given in page-3&4 of the Notification, than also you will be considered but you have to appear in GATE 2012 in the disciplines of ME, EE & EC only.

How to apply for BHEL ET Recruitment 2012:

There is no offline form for BHEL ET Recruitment 2012. You have to apply online only. You have to register (i.e. apply) actually twice for BHEL ET positions- Once for GATE & than for BHEL. And while applying for BHEL, you have to use the "GATE-2012 Registration Number" as given in the GATE admit card.

BHEL ET Recruitment 2012 GD/Interview Dates:

BHEL notification is silent about the date on which GD/Interview would be held, as they would shortlist the candidates only after GATE 2012 result is declared on 15th March, 2012. Therefore, you can expect the call letter only after this date – may be in the last week of March or first week of April, 2012.

This blog article of mine follows from an earlier blog article titled: CLAT 2012 Notification Eligibility Forms and is aimed to provide you the prep materials for CLAT (Common Law Admission Test) – the syllabus, sample papers and books along with a discussion on the CLAT exam pattern.

CLAT Exam Pattern:

The first step while deciding to prepare for CLAT is to know about the pattern of exam – i.e. what are the test sections, how many questions are asked, for what marks and what duration. It is only with this knowledge that you can find which area to put more emphasis compared to others.

CLAT LLB Pattern

The pattern of CLAT 2012 for LLB (i.e. undergraduate) with section-wise marks is as given at right. There are total 200 Objective type questions of worth 200 marks to be answered in 2 hours (i.e. just 36 seconds to answer each question). More weightage has been given to sections GK/Current Affairs & Legal Aptitude (50 each), followed by Logical Reasoning & English (40 each) and least to Numerical Ability (20 only).

CLAT LLM Pattern

The pattern of CLAT 2012 for LLM (i.e. postgraduate) with section-wise marks is as given at left. There are 100 Objective type questions (each question of 1 mark) and 10 short answer type questions of 10 marks each. Thus the total mark is 200 marks, which has to be answered in 2 hours.

There is no negative marking in CLAT 2012. So attempt all questions.. for the answer of any question you do not know, just make guesses.

CLAT 2012 Exam Syllabus:

Section-wise Syllabus for CLAT 2012 (UG – LLB) is given below:

English including Comprehension:

The English section will test the candidate’s proficiency in English based comprehension passages and grammar. In the comprehension section, candidates will be questioned on their understanding of the passage and its central theme, meanings of words used therein etc. The grammar section requires correction of incorrect grammatical sentences, filling of blanks in sentences with appropriate words, etc.

General Knowledge/Current Affairs:

This section will only test students on their knowledge of current affairs (broadly defined as matters featuring in the mainstream media between March 2011 and March 2012)

Mathematics:

This section will test candidates only on “elementary” mathematics i.e. maths that is taught up to the class X.

Logical Reasoning:

The purpose of the logical reasoning section is to test the student’s ability to identify patterns, logical links and rectify illogical arguments. It will include a wide variety of logical reasoning questions such as syllogisms, logical sequences, analogies, etc. However, visual reasoning will not be tested.

Legal Aptitude:

This section will test students only on “legal aptitude”. Questions will be framed with the help of legal propositions (described in the paper), and a set of facts to which the said proposition has to be applied. Some propositions may not be “true” in the real sense (e.g. the legal proposition might be that any person who speaks in a movie hall and disturbs others who are watching the movie will be banned from entering any movie theatre across India for one year). Candidates will have to assume the “truth” of these propositions and answer the questions accordingly.

Candidates will not be tested on any prior knowledge of law or legal concepts. If a technical/legal term is used in the question, that term will be explained in the question itself. For example, if the word patent is used, the meaning of patent (“a legal monopoly granted by the government for certain kinds of inventions”) will also be explained.

Syllabus for CLAT 2012 (PG – LLM) has not been given in the notification but is expected to be same as the one you followed in your graduation course (i.e. in LLB).

CLAT Sample/previous years question papers

After understanding the pattern of exam and knowing the syllabus, naturally you would like to know what type of questions are asked in CLAT tests. I have searched on the net and found some CLAT sample papers – but however I am not sure how much authentic they are.

Therefore your best way to get previous years question papers of CLAT is to order it from CLAT itself – the past 4 years CLAT papers cost you only Rs. 100/= (if you buy it with cash personally) from any of the 14 National law Universities.

You can also order CLAT previous years question papers by post by sending a DD of Rs. 150/- made in favour of “National Law University, Jodhpur CLAT A/C” payable at “Jodhpur (Rajasthan)”. Just send this DD along with a simple request letter containing the information - a) Name, b) Complete Postal Address with pincode, c) Contact Number (Landline & Mobile) and d) Email id. Common Law Admission Test (CLAT) 2012 Exam notification had been published three days back by National Law University, Jodhpur - the organising university for CLAT 2012. Application form-cum-information brochure are now available in all fourteen CLAT universities as well as in designated SBI branches. Last date of submission of CLAT 2012 forms 31st March 2012 (Saturday) and the written exam would be conducted on 13th May 2012 (Sunday).

This blog article dwells at length on the salient points of this all important law entrance exam for students appearing for CLAT 2012 and at the same time archive the info for students appearing in future exams like CLAT 2013/ CLAT 2014 to help them apply for the exam. What is Common Law Admission Test (CLAT)?

CLAT is an all-India law entrance exam, conducted for admissions into LL.B & LL.M program of prestigious National Law Universities of India. This very important law exam was conducted for the first time on 11th May 2008 and has since been conducted every year on the 2nd/3rd Sunday of May. While only seven law institutes took part in the first CLAT exam, number of law institutes participating in CLAT has been increasing every year. In CLAT 2012, fourteen law institutes are participating.

Can you get admissions to all law schools in India through CLAT? If not, which are the law schools in which you can get admissions through it?

Ranking of Indian Law colleges:

You can find the list of twenty “Best Indian Law College” ranking by India Today in 2011 in the table at right. As you can see, there are 8 CLAT law universities which are ranked among the 20 best law institutes in India.
Most other remaining CLAT universities does not figure among the top 20 because they have been established only very recently. So if you are serious about taking up law as a profession, you should appear in CLAT exam.

What are the eligibilities for CLAT?

As said before, CLAT exam is held for two levels LL.B & LL.M. Eligibilities for them are given below.

Eligibilities for CLAT LL.B:

Age: (as on 1st July of year of exam – e.g. 01.07.2012 for CLAT 2012)

Maximum 20 yrs for General/OBC & 22 yrs for SC/ST/Disabled.

Academic qualification:

Minimum 50% in Class-XII final exam (45% for SC/ST/OBC/Disabled). Final year students can also apply but he/she should posses the above qualification during his/her admission.

Eligibilities for CLAT LL.M:

Age: No age bar.

Academic qualification:

Minimum 55% in LL.B/B.L. Degree or an equivalent degree from a recognized University (50% for SC/ST/OBC/Disabled). Final year students can also apply but he/she should posses the above qualification during his/her admission.

Selection process for CLAT LL.B/LL.M program:

Selections to above prestigious law colleges through CLAT is purely based on the CLAT written exam - overall merit, preference-wise, gender-wise, state-wise and reservation-wise.

Exam fee for CLAT-2012 is Rs.3000/- only (Rs.2500/- in case of SC/ST/PWD on submission of proof) which is inclusive of Application Form fee as well as test fee.

While you can procure the CLAT forms by paying the CLAT 20112 fee in cash from above two sources, you can also obtain the CLAT forms by post from the organising university, NLU, Jodhpur by sending the the CLAT 20112 fee in the form of a DD/Pay in favour of "National Law University, Jodhpur CLAT A/C" and payable at "Jodhpur" (Rajasthan) along with a request letter to following address:

IFFCO has just yesterday issued recruitment notification 2012 for GET (Graduate Engineer Trainees) and the last date to apply online for these positions is 18th January, 2012. These IFFCO GET positions are for absolute freshers – only those having no experience or less than 1 year experience can apply.

What is IFFCO:

IFFCO (Indian Farmers Fertiliser Co-operative Ltd.) is the world’s largest fertiliser cooperative federation having close to 40,000 member cooperatives, spread all over India. Founded on 3rd November, 1967, IFFCO had a humble beginning with just 57 cooperatives in 1967, which has multiplied now to 39,824 at present.

It has four fertiliser plants: Kalol & Kandla in Gujrat and Aonla & Phulpur in UP. In 2005, IFFCO also acquired fertiliser unit at Paradeep in Orissa. As a result of the expansion projects and acquisitions, IFFCO's annual capacity has been increased to 3.69 million tonnes of Urea and NPK/DAP equivalent to 1.71 million tonnes. In 2008-09, IFFOC contributed to 21.4% of country’s total nitrogenous fertiliser production and 27% of total phosphatic fertiliser production.

IFFCO GET Vacancy 2012:

IFFCO in its notification has not specified how many vacancies open branch-wise. So I would look out for this info and post it here as soon as I can spot it.

Salary for IFFCO GET:

IFFCO in its notification also has not specified what would be the salary offered for Graduate Engineer Trainees. It has merely stated “During training, stipend and other benefits will be paid as per the Rules of IFFCO and on successful completion of one year training, candidates may be appointed in suitable regular pay scales”.

But I traced out an IFFCO GET job notification for 2007, in which it was mentioned that IFFCO GET stipend is about Rs. 22,000/- p.m.

IFFCO GET Eligibility:

Age Eligibility:

Max 30 yrs as on 01.01.2012. (Relaxations SC/ST: 5 yrs & OBC – non creamy: 3 years)

Academic Qualification Eligibility:

Min. 60% marks in all semesters (for SC/ST 55%) of 4 year B.E./B.Tech courses in the engineering disciplines of Chemical, Mechanical, Electrical, Civil, Instrumentation & Electronics. The qualifications should be from a UGC/AICTE recognized University/Institute.

Following are the conditions of ineligibility:

1.0 Candidates who have passed / passing their degree prior to 2009 and not later than 2011 need not apply. (i.e. you should have passed B.E./B.Tech in 2009, 2010 or 2011)

2.0 If you have post- qualification training or job experience for one year or more, you are not eligible.

Selection process for GET in IFFCO:

Selection process for Graduate Engineer Trainees in IFFCO consists of a two-stage test to be conducted both online – Preliminary Online test & Final Online test. While you can appear from anywhere with an Internet connection for appearing in Preliminary Online test, the final test of IFFCO GET exam 2012 would be held only at pre-determined venues.

Those who are short listed based on Final test would be called for personal Interview. More about the selection process for IFFCO GET in my subsequent blog article titled: IFFCO GET Exam Pattern, Sample papers & Books.

IFFCO GET Recruitment 2012 Online Form:

You can apply only online for Graduate Engineer Trainee positions in IFFCO. There is no offline form for IFFCO GET Recruitment 2012. How to apply online is given very clearly in this webpage. On this page bottom, click in the button “New Registration” to find the online form for IFFCO recruitment 2012.

Last date for submitting online form is 18th January, 2012. So better hurry.

Exam pattern/question pattern of NDA examination

This blog post is part of a series of articles on NDA examination prep material titled: NDA Exam Prep material: Sample Papers & Books. If you have not gone through the previous posts, may be you would find it useful to go through them.

The focus of this particular blog post is on what is the Exam pattern/question pattern of NDA examination.

NDA exam is a two-level examination. First level is the Written Test conducted by UPSC. If you score high in this test (try to be within top 1500 rank), you would be called for the second level – the Interview conducted by SSB (Services Selection Board).

Total marks on which you would be judged is 1800:
Marks for UPSC NDA Written Test: 900.
Marks for SSB NDA Interview : 900.

The Interview conducted by SSB is a very elaborate process which tests your psychology, physical fitness, team-spirit etc. SSB interview would be covered by me through another blog post.

Let us now focus on the exam pattern of the NDA written test.
There are two papers in NDA written test and both are objective type (multiple choice) question paper:
Paper-1. Mathematics : 300 Marks.
Paper-2. Part ‘A’ English : 200 Marks. Part ‘B’ General Ability : 400 Marks.

Both of above NDA written test papers are of 2-1/2 hours duration each.

The Paper-2 of NDA exam, i.e. General Ability Test has six sections with the break-up of 400 marks as below:
Section ‘A’ (Physics) : 100 marks.
Section ‘B’ (Chemistry) : 60 marks.
Section ‘C’ (General Science) : 40 marks.
Section ‘D’ (History, Freedom Movement etc.) : 80 marks.
Section ‘E’ (Geography) : 80 marks.
Section ‘F’ (Current Events) : 40 marks.

Each question in both the paper has four answer options, from which you need to select the correct option and mark it in the answer sheet by darkening the circle for the option completely with a pencil.

You need to take care while darkening the circle for the correct option – the circle should be darkened completely. The answer sheet is evaluated through OCR (Optical Character Recognition) software and hence if the circle is not darkened properly, the answer would come as a blank answer to OCR!

An example of correct way of marking and wrong way is given as below:

If at some point of time you found that you marked an answer wrongly, you can correct it by erasing the wrongly marked option completely with an eraser and than marking the correct answer.

Thus you need both a HB pencil and an eraser in the examination hall of NDA exam to answer the questions!

Caution!
There is negative marking for wrong answers in the NDA exam!
For any wrong answers, one third (0.33) of the marks assigned to that question will be deducted as penalty. If you give more than one answer, it will be also treated as a wrong answer.

So if you make any guess work, make it wisely. If you do not know the answer of a question for sure, therefore, better to leave it blank!

After having learnt above the exam pattern of NDA exam, lets go on to find the question pattern of the questions asked in NDA exam.

How difficult or easy are the questions asked in the written test of NDA exam? I am giving below some sample questions of NDA exam section-wise. In each section, only two questions have been given, so that you can get the feel of questions..

This blog post tells you about the syllabus of NDA Examination, so that you can find what to study for the exam. UPSC (who conducts the exam) has not specified the syllabus of any particular board (such as CBSE etc.) syllabus as the syllabus for NDA exam – If you are studying in Class-XII of any 10+2 pattern board school, than your Class-XI & XII syllabus is good enough to do well in the exam.

Before we go on to find the details of the syllabus of NDA Examination, it may do well for you to know that there are two papers in NDA written test and both are objective type (multiple choice) question paper:
Paper-1. Mathematics : 300 Marks. Duration-21/2 hours.
Paper-2. General Ability Test : 600 Marks. Duration-21/2 hours.
Besides above total 900 marks, you need to compete for another 900 marks in SSB interview, after you qualify in the written test.

Syllabus of NDA Examination Paper-1. Mathematics (300 Marks.)
1). Algebra :
Concept of a set, operations on sets, Venn diagrams. De Morgan laws. Cartesian product, relation, equivalence relation.
Representation of real numbers on a line. Complex numbers - basic properties, modulus, argument, cube roots of unity. Binary system of numbers. Conversion of a number in decimal system to binary system and vice-versa. Arithmetic, Geometric and Harmonic progressions. Quadratic equations with real coefficients. Solution of linear inequations of two variables by graphs. Permutation and Combination. Binomial theorem and its application. Logarithms and their applications.

2). Matrices and Determinants:
Types of matrices, operations on matrices Determinant of a matrix, basic properties of determinant. Adjoint and inverse of a square matrix, Applications - Solution of a system of linear equations in two or three unknowns by Cramer's rule and by Matrix Method.

3).Trigonometry:
Angles and their measures in degrees and in radians. Trigonometrical ratios. Trigonometric identities Sum and difference formulae. Multiple and Sub-multiple angles. Inverse trigonometric functions. Applications - Height and distance, properties of triangles.

4).Analytical Geometry of two and three dimensions:
Rectangular Cartesian Coordinate system. Distance formula. Equation of a line in various forms. Angle between two lines. Distance of a point from a line. Equation of a in standard and in general form. Standard forms of parabola, ellipse and hyperbola. Eccentricity and axis of a conic.
Point in a three dimensional space, distance between two points. Direction Cosines and direction ratios. Equation of a plane and a line in various forms. Angle between two lines and angle between two planes. Equation of a sphere.

5).Differential Calculus:
Concept of a real valued function - domain, range and graph of a function. Composite functions, one to one, onto and inverse functions. Notion of limit, Standard limits - examples. Continuity of functions - examples, algebraic operations on continuous functions. Derivative of a function at a point, geometrical and physical interpreatation of a derivative - applications. Derivatives of sum, product and quotient of functions, derivative of a function with respect of another function, derivative of a composite function. Second order derivatives. Increasing and decreasing functions. Application of derivatives in problems of maxima and minima.

6).Integral Calculus and Differential equations:
Integration as inverse of differentiation, integration by substitution and by parts, standard integrals involving algebraic expressions, trigonometric, exponential and hyperbolic functions. Evaluation of definite integrals - determination of areas of plane regions bounded by curves - applications. Definition of order and degree of a differential equation, formation of a differential equation by examples. General and particular solution of a differential equation, solution of first order and first degree differential equations of various types - examples. Application in problems of growth and decay.

7).Vector Algebra :
Vectors in two and three dimensions, magnitude and direction of a vector. Unit and null vectors, addition of vectors, scalar multiplication of vector, scalar product or dot product of two-vectors. Vector product and cross product of two vectors. Applications-work done by a force and moment of a force, and in geometrical problems.

8).Statistics and Probability :
Statistics: Classification of data, Frequency distribution, cumulative frequency distribution - examples Graphical representation - Histogram, Pie Chart, Frequency Polygon - examples. Measures of Central tendency - mean, median and mode. Variance and standard deviation - determination and comparison. Correlation and regression.
Probability : Random experiment, outcomes and associated sample space, events, mutually exclusive and exhaustive events, impossible and certain events. Union and Intersection of events. Complementary, elementary and composite events. Definition of probability - classical and statistical - examples. Elementary theorems on probability - simple problems. Conditional probability, Bayes' theorem - simple problems. Random variable as function on a sample space. Binomial distribution, examples of random experiments giving rise to Binominal distribution.

Syllabus of NDA Examination Paper-2. General Ability Test : 600 Marks:
There are two parts in this paper :
Part ‘A’ - ENGLISH (200 Marks) & Part ‘B’ – General Ability (400 Marks).

Syllabus of ENGLISH paper:
The question paper in English will be designed to test the candidate’s understanding of English and workman like use of words. The syllabus covers various aspects like: Grammar and usage, vocabulary, comprehension and cohesion in extended text to test the candidate’s proficiency in English.

Syllabus of General Ability paper:
The question paper on General Ability broadly covers the subjects : Physics, Chemistry, General Science, Social Studies, Geography and Current Events.
The syllabus given below is designed to indicate the scope of these subjects included in this paper. The topics mentioned are not to be regarded as exhaustive and questions on topics of similar nature not specifically mentioned in the syllabus may also be asked. Candidate’s answers are expected to show their knowledge and intelligent understanding of the subject.

SSB Interview (Intelligence and personality test):
After qualifying in above written test, you have to appear in the SSB Interview for 900 marks with details as given below:
In SSB interview, the candidates will be put to Intelligence Tests both verbal and non-verbal, designed to assess their basic intelligence. They will also be put to Group Tests such as group discussions, group planning, outdoor group tasks, and asked to give brief lectures on specified subjects. All these tests are intended to judge the mental caliber of a candidate. In broad terms, this is really an assessment of not only his intellectual qualities but also his social traits and interests in current affairs.

NDA 2012 Notification, Eligibility & Forms

Exam notification for NDA-I Exam 2012 has been published by UPSC just yesterday for admission to NDA (National Defence Academy) & NA (Naval Academy). Online submission of form has also began and the last date for submission of NDA 2012 application form is 30th January 2012.

Through this defence entrance exam, you can get admission to two defence institutes:

1.0 NDA: In the Army/Air Force/ Navy wings.

2.0 NA: In the executive branch of Navy.

Why this exam is called NDA (I)? Because NDA exam is held twice every year by UPSC (Union Public Service Commission) - Exam (I) in mid-April and Exam (II) in mid-August. My previous blog post titled: NDA Exam – what & why? introduces you to NDA exam and why you should appear in it.

With above primer, let us find what are the important dates/schedule of NDA exam –I 2012.

Important dates for NDA-I 2012:

Date of notification: 31st December, 2012.

Last date of submission of NDA-I 2012 application form: 30th January 2012

Date of NDA-I 2012 exam: 15th April, 2012.
Likely date of publication of NDA-I 2012 result: July, 2012.
Date of SSB interview subsequent to NDA exam: September - October, 2012.

Eligibility for NDA Exam:

Age eligibility for NDA exam:

Min.: 16½, M - 19 years. (born not earlier than 2nd January, 1994 and not later than 1st July, 1996)
Also only MALE, UNMARRIED candidates are allowed to appear in NDA exam.

Academic eligibility for NDA exam:

You need to pass Class-XII or equivalent examination for Army wings of NDA (Physics & Maths in Class-XII is not a must.)

However for applying to the Air Force/Navy wings of NDA and for applying to Naval Academy, you must have studied Physics & Maths in your Class-XII.

If you are currently studying in Class-XII, you can also appear in the exam, provided you can provide the proof passing the exam by 5th December, 2012.

On top of above age and academic eligibility, you also need to have the minimum physical standard as required by UPSC.

NDA Form 2012:
You can apply only online for NDA 2012 exam. There is no offline application form.
How to apply online for NDA 2012 exam has been given very clearly and in detail in this page with instruction for filling the NDA -I 2012 online form.

In short, NDA 2012 Online form has two parts - Part-I & Part-II.
Part-I Registration process has 5 (FIVE) pages:
Page-1: Personal Information including Name , DOB , Father s name etc.
Page-2: Choose Examination Centre.
Page-3: Give preferences for Army Navy Air Force and Naval Academy.
Page-4: Displays all the data entered by you. It has option for you to edit these data.
Page-5: Displays the system generated unique Registration ID.

Part-II Registration Comprises Three Steps:
1. Fee Payment.
2. Uploading Of Photograph.
3. Uploading Of Signature.

Admit Card for NDA-I 2012 exam:
Post submission of your NDA application form, you may either be sent the admit card for written exam in your postal address or it may be made available on the internet - to download it with your registration number or it may also be sent to your e-mail id. UPSC has kept all these 3 options open for issuing NDA-I 2012 written exam admit card/ call letter.
But point here to note is that the Admit Card would be made available 3 weeks before the exam date - say in the last week of March (since the exam is on 15th April, 2012). If you have problem finding your admit card/ call letter, please contact UPSC either in person or over phone 011-23385271/011-23381125/011- 23098543 for issuing duplicate Admit Card for NDA-I 2012 exam. You should make this request at least 1 week before the exam date - i.e. last date for request for duplicate Admit Card is 8th April, 2012.

Some of you may be appearing in next NDA exam in 2012. Following information is therefore given to you.

NDA-II 2012 Exam dates & Schedule:

Date of notification & Form for NDA-II 2012 Exam : 05.05.2012.

Last date of submission of NDA-II 2012 form: 04.06.2012 (MONDAY)

Date of NDA-II 2012 exam: 19.08.2012 (SUNDAY)

IOCL Recruitment 2013 (Engineer) probable dates

Many of the readers of this blog failed to apply for IOCL recruitment this year (i.e. in 2012), as in order to apply for this IOCL job opportunity, they had to apply for GATE 2012 much earlier – last date for which was already over on 21st October, 2011.

Age-wise they are still eligible (Max. age 26 years for General category) and hence they want to appear in IOCL recruitment next year (i.e. in 2013). When would the next IOCL recruitment notification for Engineers come out? This is the question I am being asked by them.

I have been following IOCL recruitment notification closely for last 3 years and to answer this question, I did an exam date trend analysis and following are my findings:

IOCL Engineer Recruitment 2010: (Total 200 vacancy)

Notification date: 30th September 2009.

Application Form dates: 11/01/2010 to 13/02/2010

Disciplines: CE/CH/EE/IN/ME/MT

IOCL Engineer Recruitment 2011: (Total 300 vacancy)

Notification date: 21st September 2010.

Application Form dates: 10/01/2011 to 12/02/2011

Disciplines: CE/CH/EE/IN/ME/MT

IOCL Engineer Recruitment 2012: (Total 225 vacancy)

Notification date: 19th September 2011.

Application Form dates: 02/01/2012 to 11/02/2012

Disciplines: CE/CH/CS/EE/IN/ME/MT

So as you can find from above, each year IOCL brings out the Recruitment Notification for Graduate Engineers just after the exam notification comes out for GATE i.e. in middle to last week of September.

For example notification for GATE 2013 should come out on or around 15th September, 2012. Therefore IOCL recruitment notification 2013 for Engineers should come out in the 3rd week of September, 2012. Also, the online form for IOCL Engineer Recruitment 2013 should become available from the 1st week of January, 2013 and the last date to apply online should be around 10th-15th February,2013. Kindly note that these are only exam forecast.

You can also find the name of engineering disciplines for which IOCL is recruiting for last 3 years - these are: CE/CH/CS/EE/IN/ME/MT. So if you are from these disciplines, you should check this webpage of IOCL from the 3rd week of September, 2012 onwards for IOCL Recruitment Notification 2013 for Graduate Apprentice Engineer (GAE).

Together with this, please check the GATE 2013 exam notification date, as only after applying for GATE 2013 you can apply for IOCL Engineers Recruitment 2013 (i.e. you have to use the GATE registration number in the IOCL Online form 2013).

Following are my exam/notification date forecast for GATE 2013:

Date of GATE 2013 exam notification: 15th September, 2012.

Date of GATE 2013 exam: 10th February, 2013.

Date of GATE 2013 result: 15th March, 2013.

IOCL Recruitment Notification 2012 for 225 Engineers has come out recently and the process for online submission of the form is set to start from 2nd January, 2012. Last date to apply online for IOCL Engineer Recruitment 2012 is 11th February 2012. This is an IOCL opening for freshers and if you are a BE/B. Tech in Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical, Computer Science & IT, Instrumentation or Metallurgical Engineering, you can apply for this IOCL job, which has been named as Graduate Apprentice Engineer (GAE), as you would be under apprenticeship/training for 1-year.

This blog article of mine touches upon the salient points in the notification to help you apply for the same – it also archives the info for future i.e. say for IOCL Recruitment 2013/2014. Towards the end of the article, you would find some prep materials for IOCL GD Topics/Interview questions.

List of disciplines for IOCL Engineers Recruitment 2012:

List of seven engineering disciplines for which these jobs in IOCL have been notified are as follows:

Civil Engineering (excluding Construction/ Transportation Engineering).

Chemical Engineering (including Petrochemicals Engineering).

Computer Science & Information Technology.

Electrical Engineering (including Electrical & Electronics engineering but excluding Electrical & Communication/ Telecommunication engineering).

Instrumentation Engineering (Including Electronics & Instrumentation engineering but excluding Electronics & Communication engineering/ Telecommunication engineering).

Mechanical Engineering (excluding Production/ Manufacturing/ Industrial Engineering).

Metallurgical Engineering.

You should know that only disciplines as named above would be considered for employment – and you should appear in GATE 2012 for that specific discipline (I.E. CE/CH/CS/EE/IN/ME/MT).

Eligibility for IOCL Graduate Engineer Recruitment:

Age Eligibility: Max 26 years as on 30th June 2012. (Relaxations exists as per Govt. rule).

Academic Qualification Eligibility: Minimum 65% marks in BE/ B.Tech for General/OBC category and just pass mark for SC/ST/PD from a recognized Indian Institute/University.

Final year students may also apply but you have to submit your final mark sheet by 31st August 2012.

In addition to above, you must have already applied for GATE 2012, last date for which was over on 21st October, 2011. You should also appear in the same, which is scheduled to be held on 12th February 2012 as IOCL would short list candidates for GD/Interview based on GATE 2012 core.

Salary for IOCL Graduate Engineer Trainees:

IOCL is offering a consolidated stipend of Rs.35,000/- per month during the 1-year apprenticeship/training period. Upon the successful completion of the same, you will be absorbed as engineers/officers with the basic pay of Rs.24900/-per month in addition to which you will be entitled to DA and other allowances/perks. CTC for an IOCL engineer/officer is approx. Rs. 9 lakh per annum.

Selection process for IOCL Graduate Engineer Trainees:

As said above, IOCL would short list the candidates for GD/Interview based on GATE 2012 core. IOCL itself will get the GATE-2012 scores directly from GATE authorities; you do not have to send it to them.

So GD & Interview are the only two stages which will be conducted by IOCL for selecting Graduate ET.

IOCL Recruitment 2012 GD/Interview Dates:

IOCL notification is silent about the date on which GD/Interview would be held, as they would shortlist the candidates only after GATE 2012 result is declared on 15th March, 2012. Therefore, you can expect the call letter only after this date – may be in the last week of March or first week of April, 2012.

IOCL Recruitment 2012 Online form:

You have to apply only online for IOCL GAE recruitment. There is no offline form.

How to prepare for IOCL GD Topics/Interview Questions:

As the selection process for IOCL Graduate Engineers post-GATE consists of only GD/Interview, you have to focus on these two areas alone. This blog has some excellent prep materials on GD & Interview to help your prepare for the IOCL recruitment.

SBI Clerk Recruitment 2012 Notification has come out recently for a huge recruitment of 5470 Clerks – out of which 324 are for unreserved category in North East states and rest under Special Recruitment Drive both in North East as well as in the rest of India. Submission of online form has already began and the last date to apply for these SBI Clerical positions is 20th January, 2012. You just need to be a graduate or have minimum 60% marks in Class-XII exam to apply for the SBI Clerk Exam 2012.

1) Minimum 60% marks (55% for SC/ST/PWD/XS) in 12th Standard (10+2) or equivalent qualification. OR Graduation degree from a recognized university.

2) You should be able to write and speak English fluently.

3) Knowledge of local language of the state for which you want to apply.will be an added qualification.

Age Eligibility: 18 years to 28 years (as on 01.12.2011)

SBI is not going to send you the call letters SBI Clerk exam 2012 but you have to download the same from this website. Also an "ACQUAINT YOURSELF BOOKLET" on the SBI clerical exam would be provided along with the call letter.

IBPS has just today issued exam notification for Common Written Exam (CWE) 2012 for recruitment of Specialist Officers in 19 Indian PSU banks. Online submission of application form starts tomorrow (30.12.2011) and the last date for the same is 21.01.2012.

What is IBPS CWE for Specialist Officers:

IBPS (Institute of Banking Personnel Selection) is organizing the first ever Common Written Exam (CWE) for recruitment of Specialist Officers from the field of IT/Agriculture/Law/HR/Marketing & Rajbhasha. The exam is being called as “Common” as it is being held combinedly for recruitment in 19 PSU banks, list of which is as under:

Allahabad Bank, Andhra Bank Oriental, Bank of Baroda, Bank of Commerce, Bank of India, Bank of Maharashtra, Canara Bank, Central Bank of India, Corporation Bank, Dena Bank, Indian Bank, Indian Overseas Bank, Punjab & Sind Bank, Punjab National Bank, Syndicate Bank, UCO Bank, Union Bank of India, United Bank of India, Vijaya Bank.

If you would like to join the Indian banking industry as a professional, here is your golden chance, since through this single exam you can get jobs in as many as the 19 Indian banks given above.

But point to note here is IBPS CWE by alone does not give you that bank job – it is only the first step for selection. Subsequent to appearing in IBPS CWE, you have to apply for each bank individually with your IBPS CWE score when the recruitment notification comes out for that bank. Bank is going to shortlist the candidates based on IBPS CWE score and than call your for further selection process of GD/Interview.

In other words, what these PSU banks have done through IBPS CWE is – they have got rid of the written exam for each individual bank. The process now has become much simpler for you as the following graphics tells you:

Close on the heels of Union Bank & Corporation Bank PO recruitment notification, Syndicate Bank has also today issued recruitment notification 2012 for 1750 positions of Probationary Officers, online submission form for which starts from 2nd January, 2012.

What is common among all these bank PO recruitment notification is that all of them would use the scores of IBPS PO/MT CWE exam 2011 to shortlist the candidates for Interview. Yes, you must have had appeared in the Common Written Exam (CWE) conducted by IBPS on 18.09.2011 to apply for all of these bank jobs. Result for the same has been declared on 12th December, 2011. In addition to these three banks, 16 other banks will be recruiting through IBPS CWE 2011 score. So expect some more job postings on this blog.

Union Bank has just today issued recruitment notification 2012 for a huge requirement of 2473 PO (Probationary Officers). The Online submission of form starts from 30th December, 2011 & the last date to apply online for this Union Bank PO recruitment 2012 is 14th January, 2012.

This recruitment notification has come close on the heels of Corporation Bank PO recruitment announced yesterday for 355 PO positions. You can find the details of this in my previous blog post titled: Corp Bank Recruitment 2012 Probationary Assistant Managers.

Yes, as I said in that blog post, you will now be showered with Bank PO/MT jobs as the IBPS PO/MT CWE exam 2011 (held on 18.09.2011) result has been declared on 12th December, 2011. Besides Corp Bank & Union Bank, 17 other banks will be recruiting through IBPS CWE 2011 score. For example, Syndicate Bank is also going for recruitment of 1750 Probationary Officers, online submission form for which begins from 2nd January, 2012.

I am making this blog post to summarize important information contained in the Union Bank recruitment notification to tell you how to apply online. Also towards the end of this article, you will find the prep material for Union Bank PO Interview.

Union Bank PO Vacancy 2012:

There are 2473 Probationary Officer vacancies with the category-wise break-up as below:

SC: 368, ST: 201, OBC: 663, GEN: 1241.

Eligibility for Union Bank PO:

Age Eligibility: (As on 01.07.2011)

Min: 20 yrs, Max: 30 yrs. (Relaxations exists as per Govt. rule)

Academic Qualification Eligibility:

Minimum 55% (50% for reserved category) in Graduation or equivalent from a recognized college/ university.

IBPS PO/MT CWE 2011 Score Card:

You should have appeared in IBPS PO/MT CWE 2011 and posses the score card issued by IBPS.

Computer knowledge

You should have a certificate of having completed a Course in Computer Awareness & Office Automation for duration of minimum 60 hours from a reputed Computer Training Institute. Same is not necessary, if 'Computers' as a subject was a part of the curriculum at the Graduation / Post-Graduation Level.

Preferable Qualification:

A Diploma in Banking & Finance (DBF) from the Indian Institute of Banking & Finance (IIBF).

Union Bank Recruitment 2012 Online Form:

If you posses the above eligibility you can apply for these Union Bank positions.

Depending on the number of applicants Union Bank would shortlist the candidate for Interview based on IBPS CWE score. Total marks for the Interview is 50 marks and the minimum qualifying mark in Union Bank Interview is 50% for General category candidates & 45% for others.

Corp Bank has taken the lead in recruiting through IBPS PO/MT Common Written Exam 2011 – yes, although even freshers can apply for this Corporation Bank Recruitment, you should have appeared in IBPS PO/MT CWE exam 2011 and obtained the marks as given in the eligibility below. BOI Officer Recruitment 2012 (Specialist & General)

Bank of India (BOI) has just yesterday issued recruitment notification 2012 for 193 Specialist & 110 General Banking Officer. All of these positions needs working experience varying from 10 years to 3 years and hence are not for freshers. Only exception is 167 Chartered Accountant positions for which no experience is required. Last date to apply online for these positions is 16th January, 2012.

This blog post intends to summarize the above notification to help you apply for this Officer Recruitment by BOI by quoting the important information. It also provides you at end prep material for BOI written exam as well as GD/Interview prep materials.

BOI Vacancy 2012:

BOI Recruitment 2012 Eligibility:

You can find the detailed post-wise eligibility along with the experience required in section-3 (Post wise – Vacancies/ Educational Qualification / Experience) in page-2 of the notification.

Selection process for BOI Recruitment 2012:

Selections for the Specialist & General Banking Officer positions in BOI would consist of a written test followed by GD/Interview. The written test is scheduled to be held on 19th February, 2012. But as per the notification. this BOI written test may not be held for all positions – specially for positions in senior level, since number of applicants are expected to be less.

BOI Exam Pattern:

Pattern of written test for Specialists:

The written exam would consist of 250 questions of worth 300 marks to be answered in 150 minutes (2.5 hours). Minimum qualifying mark is 40% in each test section individually and 50% in aggregate. You can find the distribution of question/marks test-section wise in the table at right.

Pattern of written test for General Banking Officer:

The written exam would consist of 150 questions of worth 300 marks to be answered in 90 minutes (1.5 hours). Minimum qualifying mark is 40% in each test section individually and 50% in aggregate. You can find the distribution of question/marks test-section wise in the table at left.

Subsequent to the written test of BOI, you have to appear in the Interview. The marks allotted for Interview is 100 and the minimum qualifying mark is 50% for General Category and 45% for SC/ST/OBC/ PWD category.

Important Dates for BOI Officer Recruitment 2012:

BOI Officer Exam 2012 Call Letter/ Admit Card:

The call letter for the written test would not be sent to you but you have to download it from this website of Bank of India from 09.02.2012 onwards. For issuing duplicate call letters you have to contact BOI on or after 17.02.2012. Details for issuing duplicate call letter is given in section “5. Call Letters For Written Examination” in page-10 of the notification.

AIEEE 2012 Mock Test

For those of you who intend to appear AIEEE 2012 in online mode, there is a good news: CBSE has recently released a very good quality mock test for AIEEE 2012 examinees. I had gone through the mock test myself and I feel I should share that with you, as this AIEEE 2012 mock test is definitely going be a great asset in your preparation for AIEEE. The mock test gives you the exact look and feel of a real time AIEEE 2012 test environment - what the test screen looks like, how to answer the questions on a Computer Based Test (CBT) etc.

The online version of AIEEE 2012 is scheduled to be held in twenty two city/towns between 7th May to 26th May 2012. The online exam is held twice a day : Morning shift from 9.00 AM to 12.00 PM and Afternoon shift from 2.00 PM to 5.00 PM. You can click here to find the list of 22 town/cities in which Online AIEEE 2012 would be conducted. If you appear in online AIEEE, you can save upto Rs. 300 in Exam fees compared to the Offline mode.

The AIEEE 2012 mock test has been designed by TCS and it has two flavours:
1.0 Online mock test - you have to be connected to the internet all along you attempt the mock test, which is of duration 90 minutes.
2.0 Offline mock test - you have to download the installation (.exe) file, which is of size 5.04 MB. After downloading the file, run the same to install it in your desktop.

You can click here to find the above two options of AIEEE 2012 mock test. Which mode is better? In my opinion, Offline mock test is better as you just have to download the file only once and after you install the same on your computer, it becomes all yours - you do not have to be connected to internet all along the mock test time. Also, someday AIEEE server resource may become unavailable either because of change in server resource or because of internet connectivity. If you have the application software in your computer, there is no such worry!

After you download the AIEEE mock test, attempt the same to get used to the test environment - You will notice that the timer starts counting down on top right corner, where the photograph appears.

Also, you will see the three subjects being displayed in the top right. As you over your mouse over the subjects, you get the statistics - how many questions attempted, how many remained etc.

Pay particular attention to the option buttons at the bottom of the mock test screen - "Mark for Review", "Skip", "Save & Next" & "Cancel". Getting used to their functionality would help you to avoid costly mistakes in the actual AIEEE 2012 online test.

BITSAT 2012 Notification Eligibility Forms

BITSAT 2012 Exam Notification came out just yesterday for admissions to the three campuses of prestigious BITS (Birla Institute of Technology & Science) – BITS Pilani, BITS Goa & BITS Hyderabad. (BITS has a 4th campus – at Dubai, admission to which is based on overall aggregate secured by the candidate in the qualifying exam and is not based on BITSAT).

This blog post of mine intends to cover important information contained in the above notification in a nutshell to help you apply for BITSAT 2012. How to prepare for BITSAT 2012? You can find the prep materials in my exclusive blog post titled: BITSAT 2012 study material: BITSAT Exam pattern, Sample papers and Books.

But first, a synopsis on what is BITSAT.

What is BITSAT:
Acronym for BITS Admission Test), BITSAT is the entrance exam conducted by BITS in May-June every year for admissions to BE, B. Pharm & M. Sc.courses in three of its campuses in BITS Pilani, BITS Goa & BITS Hyderabad.

BITSAT is very competitive, as per BITS 2008 data, 1,16,980 applied for 2000 total BITS seats ( 800:Pilani, 600:Goa & 600:Hyderabad). Source: BITS Campus News. That means, less than 2 applicants in every hundred only manages to get a seat in BITS (acceptance rate is 1.71% to be precise).

BITSAT is a totally Computer Based Test (CBT) – you have to appear in 32 BITSAT test centres – there is no paper/pencil BITSAT test.

BITSAT-2012 Eligibility:

BITSAT eligibilities are stiff: to appear in BITSAT, you need to score minimum 75% aggregate in PCM (Physics, Chemistry and Maths) in your Class-12th exam. Also you should have at least 60% marks in each of these three subjects individually.

You can appear in BITSAT 2012 only if you are going to appear your Class-12th final exam in 2012 or have already passed the same in 2011.

If you are a first rank holder in Class-12th of any central or state board, you would be able for direct admission to the programme of your choice, irrespective of your BITSAT-2012 score.

BITSAT-2012 Online Form:

You can apply for BITSAT 2012 only online. There is no offline forms.

BITSAT -2013 Exam Date Notification:

Some of you may be wanting to appear in BITSAT 2013, so that you can schedule your preparation accordingly. When is the notification coming out and what could be the BITSAT 2013 exam date? BITSAT has maintained a consistency of exam dates in the last four BITSAT exams as can be found from the following analysis of BITSAT 2009- 2012 exam dates:

As you can find from above, BITSAT 2013 form is likely to start along with the notification in the 3rd week of December. Based on exam date trends of above previous years BITSAT exams, following dates for BITSAT 2013 is forecasted:

Date of BITSAT 2013 exam notification: 12th - 24th December 2012.

BITSAT 2013 Online Test dates: 10/05-10/06/2013.

ISRO Assistant Exam Pattern, Syllabus, Sample Papers & Books

As the ISRO Assistant exam draws near (to be held on 26.02.2012), all the aspirants for this ISRO job must be searching for the exam prep materials - the exam pattern, sample papers & prep books. This blog post is being made specifically for this purpose- to help you prepare for ISRO Assistant Exam.

To present these materials to you, I had hard time finding them on the net as most of the links leads to either ISRO exams for Technical Assistants or the exam for Scientist/Engineers. However, I could fish out the previous three years actual exam papers of ISRO Assistants exam from which we can find the pattern of exam & the syllabus as well.

You can also go through my previous blog post titled: ISRO Assistant Recruitment 2012 Notification, Eligibility & Form to know how to apply for this exam.

ISRO Assistant Exam Pattern & Syllabus:

The written exam for the ISRO Assistant consists of two papers – Paper I & Paper 2, both containing 100 marks. You can find the pattern of ISRO Assistant exam, based on last three years (held on 20th May, 2006; 20th July, 2008 & 10th January, 2010) below, which gives you the number of question and mark per questions for each test section. There is no prescribed syllabus by ISRO for this ISRO Assistant exam, but you can find what can be the type of questions from the previous years exam papers in the next section.

The Paper 1 contains test sections on General English & General Studies. The descriptive General English consists of only two questions, weighing 10 marks each in which one essay & one letter is to be written. The General Studies sections consists of questions on “Test of reasoning”. The Paper 1 of ISRO Assistant exam is of duration 2 hours (10 AM to 12 Noon). You can find the pattern/format of Paper 1 in the table at right.

The Paper 2 contains test sections on Arithmetic, GK & Computer Literacy. As you can find, the questions are not very difficult. The paper 2 is of duration 2-1/2 hours (1:30 PM to 4 PM). You can find the pattern/format of Paper 2 in the table at right.

Mind you, this pattern of ISRO Assistant exam is based on the exam held in 2006,2008 & 2010 and you may see some difference in the pattern of exam to be held in 2012.
