There will be a total of seven performances over three weekends: November 4-5, 11-12 & 18-19, 2011, Fridays and Saturdays at 8 PM, and one Sunday matinée on November 13th at 4 PM.

Think your family has skeletons in the closet? It’s nothing compared to what the McGrath sisters are dealing with in this award-winning play about three very different sisters who have to make it through “a real bad day.”

“A hurricane of hilarity and hurt . . . a modern classic.” – LA Times

“It has heart, wit and a surprisingly zany passion that must carry all before it…it would certainly be a crime for anyone interested in the theatre not to see this play.” – NY Post.

This tragicomedy is directed by Christine Thomas. Cast members include Tyler Jowaisas, Michelle Miller, Patrick O’Laughlin, Misty Seibert, Cindy Smith and Heather Weiler.

All performances of Crimes of the Heart will be held at the Caribbean Community Theatre at #18 Estate Orange Grove in Christiansted, St. Croix. Tickets are sold at the box office at CCT prior to each performance: $20 for adults; $18 for senior citizens (age 65+); $15 for college students with ID; and $10 for students/children under age 18. No reservations are being accepted for this show. Box office opens for ticket sales at 7:15 PM on show nights, and at 3:15 PM for the Sunday matinée; arrive early for best seating. This show is not recommended for children under age 13.

Crimes of the Heart is jointly supported by a grant from the Virgin Islands Council on the Arts and the National Endowment for the Arts in Washington, DC, a federal agency.

CCT is offering a writers’ workshop entitled “Making Virgin Islands History Come Alive—Writing the One Person Show” on Sunday, April 10, 2011 at 3 PM. This program was made possible in part by a grant from the Virgin Islands Humanities Council, and the National Endowment for the Humanities. The Council, an independent, nonprofit organization, makes grants in support of projects which help to broaden citizen understanding and appreciation of the humanities.

Members of the panel who will be presenting the workshop are Tom Ziegler, resident of St. Croix; Jane Ridley, award-winning British/American actress who is also former head of the MFA acting program at Penn State University; Jere Hodgin, Head of Acting and Directing at the University of Montana; and Josh Harvey, a composer who teaches music at Washington and Lee University in Virginia.

Resident playwright Tom Ziegler has a one-person show, Mrs. Kemble’s Tempest, opening at Caribbean Community Theatre the night before this workshop. This work has played to rave reviews in many cities across the U.S. plus the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in Scotland. Other plays by Mr. Ziegler which have been presented at CCT in the past few years are Grace & Glorie and Sundays at Eleven.

Jane Ridley, who has performed in Mrs. Kemble’s Tempest since its inception, has contributed to its success and is cognizant of the skill required to make a one-person show work. She has been a professional actress and fight choreographer for more than 25 years. Her ability to perform more than 35 very distinctive characters in this play is astounding.

Jere Hodgin, who has directed Mrs. Kemble’s Tempest in many of its venues, has also directed and acted in numerous one-person shows. He brings much expertise in helping develop scripts, staging, and working with performers. The challenge of this type of theatre is to create conflict and ensure the audience’s involvement in the story.

Josh Harvey has arranged music that was written to be used when Fanny Kemble herself read William Shakespeare’s plays to audiences all across the United States and Great Britain. He has also composed pieces specifically for the show and is adept at researching music of different periods.

The workshop on Sunday, April 10th at 3 PM is open to the public, free of charge, at Caribbean Community Theatre on Sunday, located at #18 Orange Grove in Christiansted, St. Croix.

She was the first entertainment superstar of all time about whom newspapers gossiped, and women imitated.

After her divorce in 1848, she gave dramatic readings of Shakespeare’s plays in which she performed all the roles. Set during one of those readings, Mrs. Kemble’s Tempest, written by resident playwright Tom Ziegler, juxtaposes the tumultuous ups and downs in the life of this astounding woman with the rapid reversals of fortune in Shakespeare’s island fantasy, The Tempest.

Jane Ridley, award-winning British/American actress, stars in this tour de force, performing the role she originated to 5-star reviews at the famed Edinburgh Fringe Festival, at the Walnut Street Theatre in Philadelphia, and most recently at the Fulton Opera House in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. A sample review: “Tom Ziegler has written a witty and wonderfully intelligent show and Ridley is effortlessly able to keep our attention focused on her larger-than-life heroine.” Ms. Ridley is accompanied by actor/pianist Josh Harvey; the production is directed by Jere Hodgin.

There will be just one performance of Mrs. Kemble’s Tempest, on Saturday, April 9, at 8 p.m. at Caribbean Community Theatre, located at #18 Orange Grove in Christiansted, St. Croix. Ticket prices are $25 for adults, $23 for seniors, $20 for college students (with a valid student ID), $15 for children under age 18; discounts are available for CCT members. Box office and bar open at 7:15 PM; seating is on a first-come, first-serve basis, so please arrive early.

Written in Crucian dialect, Sarah & Addie is a collage of lustily entertaining vignettes centering on the island “market women” of the 1940’s and 1950’s who were looked to as important sources of humorous commentary, philosophy and the daily wisdom of the times.

Cabaret is set in 1929 Berlin as the Nazis are rising to power; it focuses on nightlife at the seedy Kit Kat Klub (a constant metaphor for the tenuous and threatening state of late Weimar Germany), and on the relationship between performer Sally Bowles and young writer Cliff Bradshaw.
