Sermons I want to write for myself/ LIST

With the book Barefoot on Holy Ground by Gloria D. Karpinski, I found there were several topics that I wanted to know more about. At first, I made a list of sermons I would love to hear. Then, as I thought about it, I felt the desire to write the sermons for myself, instead of waiting for someone to do the work for me.

Here is a list of sermons I want to write for myself:

1. How gratitude empowers

2. Power of accepting pain: page 191

3. Sea of agape: page 176

4. Compassion and no agenda: page 196

5. Destruction is the first step in construction: page 197

6. Yes to our spirit; page 34

7. Our shadows are filled with untruths: page 38

8. Filter of the ego: page 104

9. Everyone is the chosen one: page 292

10. There is nothing good or bad about money: page 293

11. Respond to inner call of the world but not to the world: page 359

12. The mind is the director of energy: page 204

13. When you start thinking about mortality, everything speeds up: page 223

14. Individuals can meet needs that established groups cannot: page 405

15. Buiding spiritual muscle first, before taming ego: page 237

16. It is not necessary to choose between our infinite and finite selves: page 250

17. I don't know, it is God's business, I just work here: page 251 ( I wrote this one March 10, 2025, see previous blog post on this blog)

18. Faith invites us to dare, dream, let go and fly: page 270

19. Lost tlhe flavor of life, but have not yet gained the fullness of divinity: page 266

21. Don't miss your own life: page 386

22. Choice is your birthright: page 327

Sermon I wrote for myself: March 10, 2025

"I don't know, that's God's business. I just work here."

Page 251 Barefoot on Holy Ground by Gloria D. Karpinski

It is about letting go and trusting God to do his work. Having faith that God know what he is doing and knowing when to help move things along or just let things be.

God knows how to do is work, we are his earthly disciples.

Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always to the end of the age" Mathew 28: 18-20

There is a dividing line between us and God, at least as far as the work that needs to be done. Sometimes we need to step back and remember, we just work here, we are not the boss.

This dividing line has another name: it is called faith. Faith that God can do his work and we are his disciples the boss of the universe. That is God's position. And wow, what a position. This is something that is so grand, so great, there are no words for it in any language. Even if we put all the great teachers together, now and among the ages, we can't possibly comprehend God's greatness. It is a waste of time to try. But what we can do is bask in his greatness and enjoy this timeless and eternal connection that we have with him.

"Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding" Proverbs 3:5

In other words, know that you just work here. Your understanding is just that, your understanding. And this is the time to mention to let your heart soften, and be open to new understandings.

When I was four years old, I thought that I knew everything. I remember sitting around thinking about the things that I knew: colors, dinosaurs, numbers, cars, dogs and people. I just couldn't think of anything I didn't know. I tried and tried. I am glad that I didn't close my heart and lean on what I already knew. I kept my heart open to learning new things. Now, at age 67, I have to remind myself that is so much to left to learn and experience. I keep my heart open and I continue my journey to be close to God and it is wonderful. And, I have found, that as my body changes and I can't depend on it as much as I used to, my faith journey is getting stronger everyday.

Carla Buchanan to star on episode 662 To Tell The Truth TV show, August 1, 2021, 10 pm, ABC, press release

Press Release:

ABC

To Tell The Truth:

An Orange County (City of Orange, Cowan Hills) Senior Citizen: Carla Buchanan: is staring on the August 1, 2021 episode of ABC’s TV show To Tell The Truth TV show.

Even when she was a child, Carla Buchanan wrote, directed, produced and starred in her own one act plays. “It just seemed natural to me, and I loved it when the audience of parents and neighbors paid me to see the shows, and bought popcorn.” And now, as a senior citizen, Buchanan is staring in an episode of the long running ABC TV show To Tell The Truth. The episode airs Sunday night, August 1, 2021, 10:00 pm on ABC.

“I feel like I just need to grab life and live it to it’s fullest!” Buchanan isn’t letting her age slow her down, in fact, her age is what is inspiring her to be herself, “Here is the thing, life is a game, like Candyland, and, at my age, I am nearing the end of the game board. So, now is the time to speed up my energy and go out and try new things.” Going on a national TV isn’t something most senior citizens are doing in their spare time. “But what they heck! It is time for me to be my true self and get out there and have some fun!” Buchanan has lived in the same house in the City of Orange for over 32 years. She and her husband Allen raised three children in the City of Orange. “We did a great job, I must say, raising our three kids, and now it is MY turn to have a little fun! Most of my friends are staying at home, retiring, but I really got a kick out of driving to Los Angeles for To Tell The Truth and feeling like a TV star for the day! I had my own dressing room, with MY NAME on the door! It had a big make up mirror, and a bathroom with a shower in it! I was totally pampered with a gourmet lunch, and I even had a make up and hair artists do my make up and hair!” As far as wardrobe goes, Buchanan did a good job picking out her clothes. “They asked me to bring a suitcase of clothes that I thought might work, and then they had a complete wardrobe department also. I am proud to say that I brought the right clothes and shoes with me! This seems like a little thing, but most of the other people on the show that day ended up wearing clothes from the wardrobe department. The main wardrobe item that was pondered, was if I was going to wear my glasses or not. You will have to watch the show to see what they decided”

Preparing for To Tell The Truth was an all day event. “I loved every minute of the prep time! It was fun practicing what I thought the celebrity panel was going to ask me.But I wasn’t prepared for the crazy stuff that they asked! That is what made the show fun!” And, then, there is the stage practice too, “ It seemed easy when I practiced walking on the stage, but totally different when I actually walked on the stage when we were filming! I did manage to go where I practiced, but it there were so many lights and lots of sound! It was a lot different than when I produced shows as a child!”

To Tell The Truth is hosted by “Black-ish” star, Anthony Anderson. Anderson’s mother, Mama Doris, is also in the show. Orange County’s Carla Buchanan will be one of the three people on the show airing Sunday, August 1, 2021, ABC, at 10 pm. Only one of the three people are sworn “To Tell The Truth” and the other two people use all the tricks that they can think of to trick the panel of celebrities.

How Not to be OLD when you are OLD

2021-06-04T12:33:00.003-07:00

How to not be old when you are old

If you are easily offended, don’t read stuff from me. I am tired of not being able to say what I want, when I want, and to to I want. Aren’t you? I can’t see you, but I bet, you if look at the year you were born, you are old. The good news is, just because your birth year was a while back, doesn’t mean you have to BE old! Think back, have you been acting old for 1 year? 10 years? 20 years? or always? When you were a little kid, did adults call you “an old soul?”

There is still hope! But remember, the longer you have been old, your old self may resist the change to your new, acting younger self. Your old self will say something like.” You can’t climb that hill, you are old.” “What are you crazy? You can’t go back to school at your age!” “Don’t be silly, you can’t launch your acting career at this stage of your game” Your old self is NOT your friend! You have always depended on your old self to keep you from taking care of yourself, for spending money on yourself, from saying what you want, from taking chances, from spending money. Your old self is not your friend: it LIES and is a downer. Don’t trust your old self! If you want to “not be old” then don’t listen to your old self. And, warning, that big bad old self will speak you to over 100 times a day! Isn’t that what you have been used to? When you stop talking and listening to your old self, your old self will get meaner, louder and talk to you more often. Sometimes, your old self goes to extremes and has other people do the talking for it: like you son, your daughter, your preacher and your neighbor. “Mom, no one will hire you at your age!” “Neighbor, when are you going to move into a senior living house?” Don’t listen to them, listen to your YOUNG self! Your young self IS your friend and you might need to get to be better friends with them! Take your young self on a walk, ride in a limo with your young self by yourself, fill out a joy application with your young self, or, better still: start your own business with your young self!

McCalls pattern review M6304, toddler girls lace dress by Carla Buchanan roxygs

2021-01-02T14:25:00.002-08:00

I made this beautiful dress for my granddaughter. She is 3 years old. It is McCalls pattern M6304. I lined the entire dress and, for the back of the bodice I used a cotton, not the lace. I also used snaps in the back and not buttons. I did not add a hook and eye on the skirt, I just covered the slit with lace and it looked great. She loved the dress and wore it to a fancy tea party.
