Gather round, I've a life lesson to teach.

It's June, aka prom month. Most people only go to prom once, unless you are part of the extremely attractive & into younger people population, or the population where you go with every single relative in your family, the stress of prom will only plague you once in your life.

The thing about prom is that they never tell you what to expect in school. They simply tell you the date and time, and leave you to figure out the rest your self. Shitty, I know, but that's LIFE.

On the plus side of all this is that there are people like myself who, although preparing for their very own first promenade, will post advice to help you in your journey as well simply because we are just so giving and kind and caring. We are a rare breed, I do concurrrr *snobby British accent*

Here are some Prom Tips I've gathered for you boys and girls!

LIMOUSINE

A couple of days before your prom, you should call the company and ask all of the appropriate questions:

Get the name of the person you are talking to
Get a confirmation number
Get an emergency contact #
Find out your driver’s name
Confirm addresses of all pick-ups & make sure there's enough time in-between! You don't want them to show up late, or to be rushed!

THE DRESS

A dress that looks good on your best friend may not look good on you, just like a dress that looks good on you may not look good on m--Wait, let's be honest. That's EXTREMELY unlikely....but the point is, we all have different body types, therefore different designs work for us.

When searching for a dress it's very important to keep your body type in mind. There are dresses for all types:

Slender: If you have a slim figure the illusion of curves can be acheived by drawing attention to
your bust line or a prom dress that bells out. Also, you might try prom dresses that draw attention to your waist such as a wrap dress or one witha belt.

Petite: If you are petite show a little leg and go with an asymmetrical hemline or a long fitted solid prom dress to make you appear taller. Floor lengthball gowns tend to overwhelm your frame. Long ruffles can also add the illusion of height.

Hourglass: If you have an hour glass figure consider yourself lucky! You have a naturally well propotioned body with means you don't need to disguise any thing. Almost every style prom dress will flatter your figure. Have fun with it!

Apple - For an apple shaped body prom dresses with an empire waist will help draw attention from your middle. Also a higher waist line means the prom dress may not be as tight in your problem area. If you have nice athletic legs, you might try to show them off by looking at shorter prom dresses.

Busty - You can play up what you have by choosing from prom dresses with a gorgeous neckline; but look for prom dresses with fuller coverage so you can make sure you have adequate support. If you would like to draw attention away from your chest; look for prom dresses that attracts the eye to the hem.

Pear Shapes - For pear shapes we recommend prom dresses with fitted tops and full or a-line skirts. Or if you are comfortable with your larger behind, go for prom dresses that are a bit more form fitting.

Boys and Gals, Gals and Boys, there is a new shoe designer in town and he is a force to be reckoned with!! If you haven't heard the name yet, you are really seriously slacking on your fashion knowledge. If you have heard of him, give yourself a pat on the back and whisper "Bravo" in the mirror while looking yourself in the eyes because you deserve it.

Jeffrey Campbell's the name, and making AH-MAZING shoes is his game. Jeffrey Campbells are the new MUST-HAVE'S!! His shoes are turning up on runways and magazines everywhere already

Some people's goals are to graduate high school and college and get a well paying job, but my dreams are more important: Marry a rich basketball player, end up on Basketball Wives where I get into a crazy fight with another wife over basically nothing, and then with the fight money I earn from the show, buy as many Jeffrey Campbell shoes as I want. You see...with my owwwnnnnn money. Who says I'm a gold digger ? ;)

Music Video Chic

Chris Brown & Justin Bieber began shooting the music video for their huge single, Next To You!

I love,love, LOVE this song, so of course I'm counting down the days until the music video is out. Chris & Justin made sure to tweet lots and lots of pictures from the set for all of their Breeliebers (a mixture of Team Breezy & Beliebers...yes, I've been told many times that I''m a genious)

Seems like the two are having a lot of fun working together, Chris tweeted "Workin my ass off right now for my fans. On set "next to you" video! I love y'all! #knowthat"

While Justin tweeted "time to start the day... shooting #NEXT2YOU with @chrisbrown today. @ColinTilley LEGGO!"

Its great to see two very talented musicians work together as friends, their other collaboration, UP was another runaway hit. I hope they make more music together in the future!

Death Of Palestinian Student Ayah Baradiyya

Today I woke up and checked my favourtie websites like I usually do. Today a story entitled,

Grisly Discovery Of Missing Palestinian Student Ayah Baradiyya Has People Up In Arms After Uncle Confesses To So-Called Honor Killing, stole my heart.

Here is the full story as Bossip reported it.

This was no ‘honor killing!’ Before we even get into the details we wanted to let you know that the people in Ayah Baradiyya’s small village are up in arms over what her uncle did to her and EVERYONE, including the police have given his murderous a*s the “Ho Sit Down” treatment over his claims that she had any kind of sexually inappropriate relationship with anybody.

The bottom line is that over a year ago Ayah’s uncle and two men he claims were his colleagues, drove to her school to pick her up. She initially refused to get in the car but her Uncle, using the logic of the patriarchal culture she was raised in, told her as her Uncle he wanted to talk to her. Once inside the car, he and his “friends” beat her senseless as they drove her to a remote location. She begged for her life, but they taped her mouth, tied her hands and feet and put her in a shallow well, which they covered with a rock. She was alive when they left her. It was likely a horrible death. And she went missing for over a year before the truth was discovered, leaving much suspicion on the man she was about to become engaged to. SMH.

Here are the details:

On April 20, 2010, Ayah left her home in the morning to get to Hebron University in time for an exam.
“She was an intelligent student and had excellent marks; she would have graduated this year,” said Zahia Shareef, one of Ayah’s fellow students.
Ayah studied English literature at the university, a choice which was entirely her own. But Ayah also lived in a conservative society, and so not all choices were hers.
Ayah agreed to marry a 38-year-old man from Hebron city, but her family disagreed, saying he was too old for her. But after several approaches by the man, who wishes to remain anonymous, her father had a change of heart.
“Five days before she disappeared, my father and I talked with Ayah in her room and we agreed she would not speak with him until after exams, when my father would sit with the young man and approve the engagement,” said Ayah’s sister Haneen.
When Ayah failed to return home following her exam, her family tried calling her. Finding her phone had been switched off, Haneen tried calling the man that proposed to Ayah, and he, too, had not heard from or seen her that day.
At this point, the family notified the police and what followed was an intensive search that left no stone unturned and no one in Ayah’s family circle of friends was exempt from suspicion. Her father, mother, uncle and siblings were all interrogated.
“We searched continuously for a long time, and in all areas. There were many possibilities concerning her disappearance. We examined her social network. Where did she usually go? Who were her friends?” said Col. Ramadan Awad, director of the Hebron police and the officer in charge of the investigation.
The investigation of Ayah’s family and all those who knew her finally led them to the man who had proposed to Ayah.
“At the beginning, we thought he had something to do with her disappearance. We arrested this young man and kept him for 35 days. We continuously interrogated him and came to the conclusion he has nothing to do with the disappearance of Ayah Baradiyya,” said Awad.

SMH, can you imagine her family’s worry and pain at her disappearance? And the whole time the culprit was another family member!!!

Police finally caught a break earlier this month, when a shepherd alerted police about the horrible smell coming from a well approximately two miles from Ayah’s home, where he’d initially planned to fetch water.

When they inspected the well, the police retrieved a corpse, and the immediate evidence led them to the conclusion that it was Ayah’s. Along with the remains, the police found Ayah’s handbag, family photos and a necklace engraved with her name.

“This case provoked everybody … I have never faced a similar crime,” Awad said.

Undisclosed evidence found at the scene led Awad to the conclusion that Ayah’s 37-year-old uncle had something to do with her death.

“We immediately arrested him and interrogated him. Within three hours of the police interview, he delivered his confession,” said Awad.

“His confession amazed me and gave me a very difficult indescribable feeling. He confessed that on the date Ayah was killed, (he) and two of his colleagues drove to the university and told Ayah to get into the vehicle. At the beginning, she refused to get in, but he insisted, telling her: ‘As your uncle, I want to talk to you!’ ” Awad told CNN.

“There are no houses, no people there, it is an abandoned area. She was pleading (to) her uncle on the way. ‘Why are you taking me? Where are you taking me to?’ He hit her many times and told her: ‘We will kill you.’ She continued pleading: ‘Don’t kill me, I did nothing. What did I do for you to kill me?’ But he told her: ‘You should die,’ ” said Awad, recounting the killer’s confession.

In an interview shared with CNN by Palestine TV, the uncle recounted the ordeal on camera.

“We kidnapped her. We took a car, a Peugeot 205, parked the car by the well, threw the girl inside the well and then left,” he recounts in a cold manner.

Whether she died instantly or was left suffering at the bottom of the well will remain unknown. During his interrogation, the uncle told the police that after throwing her in the well, they closed the hatch and placed a large stone on top of it.

The uncle and two other suspects have been charged with murder and are still waiting for an attorney to be assigned to their case.

Ayah’s murder shocked the community and has sent waves of anger echoing through the West Bank. The uncle told police he killed his niece to preserve the family’s honor, believing she had engaged in improper sexual relations. This label is rejected by Awad, who also says her uncle had no evidence as to improper conduct on her part.

“It is known in honor killing cases that those who commit such an act, they confess to the murder. They immediately turn themselves in to the police. He did not do that and also brought complete strangers to help him,” said the colonel.

“This is not an honor killing. I hope all of us will stop using this term. It has nothing to do with honor. It only has to do with taking the life of a human being,” said Nabil Al-Ja’Abari, chairman of the Hebron University board of trustees.

“We call upon the Palestinian Authority to punish those who committed this crime with the maximum penalty possible — which is the penalty of execution they deserve,” said Hassan Khallaf, one of Ayah’s fellow students.

This sentiment was reiterated by the masses who attended her funeral last week.

“The people want the execution of the killer,” mourners chanted in the thousands.

Ayah’s case has cast a bright light on the dark and one-time taboo subject of honor killings in Palestinian society, and it has stirred a public outcry for reform of laws that treat the crime as justifiable murder.

In the weeks since her body was found, the debate around Ayah’s death has not subsided. Massive shows of support and public pressure led Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas to issue a decree directing the judiciary to hand out the “utmost punishment” in honor-related attacks.

The incident has sparked vigorous debate about scrapping an outdated penal code that allows for little or no punishment for men convicted of attacking or killing female relatives suspected of bringing dishonor to their families.

Al-Haq, a Palestinian NGO that promotes human rights, estimates at least 18 women were killed under the excuse of honor from 2005 to 2010. The decree passed by the Palestinian president is a crucial step toward change in a society where murder in the name of honor often goes unpunished.

So sad and hard to read. I hope Ayah gets the justice she deserves.

Slum Dog Millionaire beauty Frieda Pinto disappointed in this dress. The colour & concept was nice, but definitely not excecuted properly, leaving her with an ill-fitting frock that made her arms resemble that of a football players. And hey, is she still dating her Slumdog co-star?

I'm not familiar with any of Alessandra Ambrosio's work, but her dress definitely caught my eye. Beautifully elegant.

Nikon Chic

A blogger's best friend is his or her camera. N'est pas? This is why I just keep whining to my ma & pa that I need a damn NIKON!! I swear, If I don't get a Nikon by the end of next month, I might just do this. Seriously. Speaking of cameras, what team are YOU on? Nikon or Canon? & Do you think a person can have a great blog with a not so great camera?

Somehow it seems impossible to me, which is why I'm remaining under the bloggers radar until I get an adequate camera.

I recently got invited by my lovely friend Julia of The Fashion Keeper to an event called "Blogger's Night" hosted by Black Book Events to promote THANN's natural products.

It was a great night of laughs, sushi, facials, and great smelling stuff!

I met so many chic people, and got to try out the best moisturizer I've ever used in my life. My hands were so soft I couldn't help but "accidentally" brush hands with strangers in the store millions of times just so they could notice.
The THANN's store is very beautifully decorated, and smells like heaven!

Beyonce has always been known as one of the most gorgeous women alive. Even THE MOST beautiful at some point. I can't remember when exactly & I'm WAY too busy watching Justin Bieber's documentary on Much Music's Born To Be to find out.

I'm one of the biggest Beyonce stans ever, so I'm definitely not hating, but lately there's been something OFF.....about BeyBey, & I just can't put my finger on it. Maybe it's the weave.

I'm a High School Senior who is 5 months away from starting my first year at Carleton University. I got the inspiration to start Carleton Chic when I heard about the Annual Onyx Awards Carleton has every year in honour of black students.

Seeing how many organizations are at Carleton got me so excited to start my Freshman year in September, that I decided I wanted to blog pretty much everything and everyone chic the Uni has to offer so that I can remember my university days after I graduate, and hopefully get prospective students excited to go to Carleton as well :)!
