Committee of Adjustment Decision

The following is the decision from the Committee of Adjustment on the proposal at 1546 and 1550 Claymore Avenue:

“After considering all of the evidence presented and having reviewed the plans filed, a half of the Committee Members are of the opinion that the Owner has failed to demonstrate the need for relief from the By-law requirements and that the proposed new lots do not respect the character of the neighbourhood. While recognizing that the form of dwellings proposed generally comply with the Zoning BY-law, locating four of them side-by-side on lots that are narrower than permitted in the R1GG zone would have a cumulative negative impact and be incompatible and inconsistent with the surrounding area.
For these reasons, half of the Committee Members are of the view that the proposed development is neither in character nor appropriate for the neighbourhood and that the variances sought, in this instance, are not in keeping with the intent of the Official Plan and the Zoning By-law and are not desirable for the appropriate development or use of the land. Because half of the Committee does not support the proposed applications, the applications must fail and therefore are refused.”

We all know women and girls in our community whose leadership results in improvements in the lives of others. The Leading Women/Leading Girls Building Communities Recognition Program is an opportunity to acknowledge their contributions and applaud their successes. You are encouraged to review the nomination package and nominate an outstanding woman or girl in our community.

CHARA Board of Directors Meeting

The next Board of Directors meeting is scheduled for Tuesday November 15, 2011 at 7pm at the Carleton Heights Community Centre. The meeting is open to the public, and residents are encouraged to come out and voice their opinions.

Public Meeting, Development Proposal: 1550 Claymor

An application to develop the property at 1550 Claymor has been made to the Committee of Adjustment. Essemtially, the application is seeking to demolish the existing home and build three new homes, each with a frontage of approximately 14 metres (45.9 ft), whereas the bylaw requires a minimum of 18 metres (59 feet). The application was to be heard on November 2. However, at that meeting a request for adjournment was granted in order to provide for the owner/developer to consult with residents. The application will now be heard on December 7.

The Carleton Heights and Area Residents Association (CHARA) has offered to organize the meeting between the owner/developer and the residents of the community. At this meeting, the owner and developer will present the plans for development and will hear from residents.

The meeting will be held on NOVEMBER 14 AT 7 P.M. at the Carleton Heights Community Centre. All residents are encouraged to attend.
