The Carlisle High School Volleyball team will be selling T-Shirts to raise money for Volley for the Cure. The shirts are $5.00 ($7 for 2XL or 3XL). I have attached a photo if you're interested. To order please reply to this email or order from any volleyball player. The Volley for the Cure Match will be at Northridge on October 7th, if you come support the girls and wear your Fan T-Shirt, admission will only be $2 instead of $5. Hope to see you there!

Two Carlisle HS Students earn AP Scholar Awards...

Two students at Carlisle High School have earned AP Scholar Awards in recognition of their exceptional achievement on AP Exams.

The College Board’s Advanced Placement Program (AP) provides willing and academically prepared students with the opportunity to take rigorous college-level courses while still in high school, and to earn college credit, advanced placement, or both for successful performance on the AP Exams. About 18 percent of the 1.8 million students worldwide who took AP Exams performed at a sufficiently high level to also earn an AP Scholar Award.

The College Board recognizes several levels of achievement based on students’ performance on AP Exams.

At Carlisle High School:
One student qualified for the AP Scholar with Honor Award by earning an average grade of at least 3.25 on all AP Exams taken, and grades of 3 or higher on four or more of these exams. This student was Jacob Fryman.
One student qualified for the AP Scholar Award by completing three or more AP Exams with scores of 3 or higher. This student was Kenneth Dearth.

Through more than 30 different college-level courses and exams, AP provides motivated and academically prepared students with the opportunity to earn college credit or advanced placement and stand out in the college admissions process. Each exam is developed by a committee of college and university faculty and AP teachers, ensuring that our exams are aligned with the same high standards expected by college faculty at some of the nation’s leading liberal arts and research institutions. AP is accepted by more than 3,800 colleges and universities worldwide for college credit, advanced placement, or both on the basis of successful AP Exam grades. This includes more than 90 percent of four-year institutions in the United States. Research consistently shows that AP students who score 3 or higher on AP Exams (based on a scale of 1 to 5, with 5 being the highest) typically experience greater academic success in college and higher graduation rates than students who do not participate in AP.

The College Board is a not-for-profit membership organization whose mission is to connect students to college success and opportunity. Founded in 1900, the association is composed of more than 5,700 schools, colleges, universities, and other educational organizations. Each year, the College Board serves seven million students and their parents, 23,000 high schools, and 3,800 colleges through major programs and services in college admissions, guidance, assessment, financial aid, enrollment, and teaching and learning. 1st Day of School
The 1st day of school for students attending Grigsby Intermediate will be Wed., Aug. 25th. Students riding a bus should be at their bus stop no later than 7:40 AM. The school day will begin at 8:15 AM and at 3:00 PM. Beginning on Wed., Sept. 1st., every Wednesday throughout the school year will be early dismissal for teacher inservice. Dismissal on these days will be at 2:15 PM.

Grisgby Intermediate 2010-2011 Class Lists Postings
Class Lists for the 2010-2011 School Year will be posted for 3rd, 4th, 5th grades on Friday, August 20,2010 by 3:30 PM. The lists will be posted on the front doors and will be accompanied with the bus routes, lunch menu & school supply lists.
"Meet the Teachers Night"
Students attending Grigsby Intermediate School for the 2010-2011 school year are invited to attend, with their parents, a "Meet the Teachers Night" . The evening's activities will begin in the gym with a brief welcome and introduction of the teachers. The students and parents will then go to the students' homerooms to receive additional information. Students are welcome to bring their school supplies at that time. Carlisle School District Financial Update...

As seen on the school's website, carlisleindians.org, Carlisle has released a statement about the District's Financial Update for Carlisle Local Schools in Carlisle, Ohio. Here is the statement from the school.

District Treasurer Jerry Ellender said that the District is in the best financial shape its been in for over a decade but the concern now is declining State support for the District. The State provides over half the financial support for the District and the local taxpayers provide the rest. The State reduced their funding by 1% this year and will reduce it again by 2% next year.

The District balanced its budget in FY09 with a combination of cutting expenditures and increasing revenue by opening enrollment at all buildings. But the District's expenses continue to rise with inflation while the revenues are flat to declining. This means that even though we have money right now, it will run out within the next couple of years. (See Five-Year Forecast on Treasurer page for details)

The big concern now is what will happen in the next biennium State budget when the Federal stimulus dollars run out. The current year and next school years' state budgets were propped up by Federal stimulus dollars and there will be a big hole in the State budget for the next biennium without that Federal support. This could translate into school funding cuts in the State budget which will hurt our District since we rely on the State for half our support.

The local taxpayers have been doing their part in supporting the District, but now the State is reducing their share, and this places more needs for funding the District on the local taxpayer.

Carlisle Local Schools has an annual budget of about $15 million.The revenue sources for the District are approximately $8 million is State funding, $4.8 million in property taxes, $1.7 million in income taxes and the rest is made up of student fees and miscellaneous revenue. The district operates on the minimum legal property tax level for school districts of 20 mils, and a 1% School Income Tax plus the State Foundation funding.

CHS Seniors participate in Hillcrest Baccalaureate...

This past Sunday, some Carlisle High School Seniors participated in what is an annual Baccalaureate Service provided by Hillcrest Baptist Church. For years the churches in Carlisle have taken turns holding the service to commemorate the graduating classes of Carlisle High School. The definition WIKI provides for us to better understand a Baccalaureate service. A baccalaureate service is a celebration which honors a graduating senior class from a college or high school. The event is often, but not necessarily, of a religious nature, although it is almost invariably Christian.^{[dubious – discuss]} At many Yeshivas and other universities with religious affiliations, the baccelaureate service will be celebrated as a religious ceremony.

Hillcrest Baptist Church did a wonderful job organizing a wonderful ceremony honoring the Class of 2010 from Carlisle High School. Many of the local pastors were involved with the ceremony Hillcrest's Pastor Larry Lambes, Baptist Tabernacle Pastor Mike Gray, New Jersey Presbyterian Rev. Jeff Foster, and Youth Pastor from Riverview Baptist Church Josh Williams.

Superintendent, Mike Griffith gave a Challenge to the Family and Youth Pastor from Hillcrest Baptist Dustin Knoedler gave a Challeng to the Graduates. The night was also proclaimed by Mayor Tim Humphries as Senior/Graduate Day in the City.

Other moments of the night was High School Principal Matt Bishop and School Board Member Bryan Dunkman presented gifts to the graduates and music was provided by Worship Leader from Hillcrest Jeff Roberts. Special Music provided by Andrea Boy. Enjoy images of the ceremony of the night below.

The Carlisle High School graduating class of 2010 will walk down the stairs of the gym one last time as students. The graduation commencement will be on Saturday, May 29 at 12pm in the High School Gymnasium. This year's valedictorians are Sarah Steele, Jake Fryman, and Jon Lemaster.

Sarah Steele is the daughter of Michelle and Dennis Steele. She plans to attend Wright State University and major in Chemistry. Steele played soccer and was invovled in Spanish Club and National Honor Society.

Jake Fryman is the son of Doug and Christi Fryman. He plans on attending Miami University Middletown and is undecided on a major. Fryman was class president and involved in Spanish club and National Honor Society.

Jon Lemaster is the son of Don and Lynn Lemaster. He plans to attend Miami University Middletown. He was involved in National Honor Society and Spanish Club.

On Thursday, May 6, 2010, seventh graders of Chamberlain Middle School took an educational travel program trip to Chicago, Illinois. The itinerary included many educational, entertaining and fun things to do. On Thursday they went to see Shed Aquarium and Oceanarium, where they also observed a dolphin training demonstration. That same afternoon they took a tour of the Sears Tower, the tallest building in the United States. After dinner they attended an exciting baseball game.

On Saturday they enjoyed all the exhibits at the Field Museum of Natural History and later they took a ride on a Seadog Boat Cruise. Later the group attended the Adler Planetarium, toured Michigan Avenue and on Friday evening they were guests at the Medieval Times Dinner Theater. Before their return trip on Saturday they had a very informative visit at the Museum of Science and Industry and had a hearty dinner at the Old Country Buffet in Indianapolis, Indiana. They arrive back home at approximately 9 PM on Saturday, May 8. It appears that all who attended had a very good time.

The mock car crash that was scheduled this morning for Carlisle High School is canceled. The tentative make up date is for next Thursday but nothing is finalized at this time.

Carlisle Seniors take in Job Fair...

Yesterday, select seniors of Carlisle and Franklin High School were invited to a Job/College Fair at Pissanelos Pizza. The 70-80 students from both High Schools enjoyed a morning of learning about important issues concerning colleges, tuition, and trade schools. The students learned the value of money and what they need to look out for when applying and searching for the right career and college. The students listened to speakers from each college and institute discussing their alternatives and programs. They were able to gain information and sign up for programs that interested them at the different colleges booths.

The colleges and schools represented were Miami University, Sinclair College, Warren County Career Center, Butler Tech Career Center, WorkForce One from Warren County, and Great Oaks Career Institute.
