When it comes to a PGA membership, it takes more than raw talent and a nice pair of men's golf shoes to gain entry. This year, it’s going to be even harder to become a member of the PGA Tour. Since 1965, the PGA has hosted Q-School qualifier events, or more commonly known as Qualifying School. Today, there is a new developmental circuit called the Web.com Tour, a tour sponsored by the Jacksonville Internet services provider. It is the highest ranked developmental tour for men’s golf at the international level.

So, if you want to qualify for a PGA membership, it’s going to start with the Web.com Tour; some professional golf apparel and gear wouldn’t hurt though. First become a Web.com Tour member through Q-School to participate in this year’s tournaments, then rack up enough points to graduate or earn a Tour card by advancing to the finals. The top 25 earners will then be invited to join the club.

There are other ways to make it to the big leagues though; for the fast track, win a ‘battlefield promotion.’ If you win three tournaments on the Web.com tour, you are automatically and instantly admitted as a full member of the PGA Tour for the remainder of the season, and the next season. You can also win a membership if you get into an official PGA Tour game, generally through a sponsorship: finish on top to win your membership. It’s also possible to become a temporary member with the PGA. This is a special consideration for someone who has previously qualified in one of the before mentioned ways.

If you’re looking to qualify this year, you’ll also be up against any PGA Tour golfers who failed to qualify in the FedEx Cup playoffs. If you think you have what it takes, get out the golf gear and see if you could make it all the way to the top.

Golf’s elite from around the world gather this time every year to compete in the, by invite only, Masters tournament. Founded in 1934 by Bobby Jones and Clifford Roberts, the tournament was put in place to better the game of golf and to display the game at its highest level.

The event was first held in 1934 in Augusta, Georgia at the newly constructed Augusta National. For the first five years of its existence, the event was better known as the Augusta National Invitation Tournament, until the name was officially changed in 1939 and the Masters was born.

Since the Masters inception, elite amateur and professional golfers arrive sporting top of the line golf apparel and showing off their skills in order to win the Masters Trophy, a gold medal, and the famous green jacket. From April 11 to 14, the tradition continues as golf’s elite compete for golf’s greatest championship.

There are a few ways to qualify for the invitational:victories at the US Open, British Open, PGA Championship and Players Championship earn you a spot. . There are also five amateur championships every year that allow for six amateurs to be invited to the Masters, making up a small portion of the Masters field. Being among this year’s or the previous year’s top 50 in the Official World Golf Ranking also earns golfers a chance  to battle for the most coveted piece of golf apparel in the business, the green jacket.

Generally, about 90 to 100 golfers accept the invitation to play in the Masters Tournament. This year, there are 93 who will test their concentration and skill against each other, 19 of which are past champions of the Masters tournament.

The Masters Tournament is steeped in tradition, and continually shows us the ever growing quality of golfers worldwide. The winner might be the best-of-the-best for only a year, but his name and performance will be remembered for as long as the Masters Tournament is held. History makes the Masters what it is today, but who can argue it’s also history in the making.

Did anyone watch the TaylorMade new product launch webcast on Thursday 9/9/10?  This is the first time, that I can at least remember, that a golf manufacturer has announced a major product launch via webcast online.  I though it was pretty cool...only like 12 minutes long.  Short and sweet!

The biggest announcement of the TaylorMade webcast is the new 2011 TaylorMade Burner 2.0 iron.  The Burner 2.0 iron set is replacing the extremely popular Burner 09 irons.  The Burner 2.0 irons will be released in the beginning of October 2010.  You can pre-order them now if you'd like to...
