A new section on CVSD.com: A One Paseo Overview. This is a place where I'll post information on the project and possible ideas to make this development better match the character of Carmel Valley. I hope our community ends up with more of a village feel, rather than the massive housing and retail blocks currently proposed by Kilroy. Here, you'll find a place to get independent news from a site that isn't supported by the developer, or anyone else! It seems like the PR Firms are continuing to churn out letters and reports of community support for One Paseo, even though many of the sources seems suspicious. CCA Foundation Athletics Fundraiser

CCA Student Awarded Kyoto Scholarship

Feb 2012 Meeting of the CV Planning Board

The Carmel Valley Community Planning Board will hold it's regular monthly meeting on February 23, 2012 from 7:00 to 10:00 pm at the Carmel Valley Library, 3919 Townsgate Drive. Attached, you will find the February Agenda, the minutes from the January Regular Meeting and the January Special Meeting, and a letter about the new wildlife undercrossing on El Camino Real. Two Torrey Pines HS Foundation Events

Our local schools are hurting due to state funding reductions, so I'd encourage everyone to support them to the best of their ability. This allows the schools to provide programs that would otherwise not be available. The Torrey Pines High School Foundation has a couple of fundraisers coming up: The casual "A Taste of Torrey" on Sunday, February 26, 2012 at the PAC, and the Foundation's annual gala, "Pump Up The Volume!" on March 31, 2012 at the Belly Up. Carmel Valley Does NOT Support One Paseo!

It's time for us to stand up and tell Kilroy that their vision of One Paseo is NOT what we want for Carmel Valley. We're willing to agree to a mixed-use project that is appropriate to the community, but not to the monsterous Urban Mall that they've proposed. We don't want a Los Angeles Infill Project. San Diego is a City of Villages, and we want our Village!

Mary's Tack Tent Sale

Do Any Carmel Valley Residents Support One Paseo?

When you read published letters in support of Kilroy's One Paseo and see news that sounds like the whole community is behind it, I would encourage you to be skeptical. Many of these letters appear to be from political consultants, public relations firms, developers and businesses with connections to Kilroy. I believe that almost everyone in Carmel Valley is against the massive, Los Angeles style development that is proposed for our home. We should all push for a smaller, village-like Carmel Valley Main Street, something that fits our suburban San Diego community.

Ugly New Cinepolis Electronic Sign

Has everyone seen the ugly new electronic sign installed by Cinepolis? This is a flashing sign with overly intense colors that is way too bright and visually distracting. I can't say enough bad things about this sign. If someone wants to put an electronic sign into Carmel Valley, it should be classy and upscale. That is, it should use muted colors, not be too bright, not be flashing and not use animations to distract adjacent drivers. I encourage everyone to complain to Cinepolis and the Donahue Schriber management office.

CVMS Wins Science Olympiad Competition

The Carmel Valley Middle School Bobcats placed first in a Regional Science Olympiad Competition at Rancho Bernardo High School. The Carmel Valley News Story says that 1,350 students at 28 different schools competed, and the Carmel Valley Middle School was the first place team. San Dieguito Adult School Spring 2012 Session

While our local Recreation Center offers lots of classes for your kids (and a few for adults), the San Dieguito Adult School has a ton of classes for adults. This is a part of the San Dieguito Union High School District (think Torrey Pines and CCA), and classes are offered in many of the district locations. Classes include things like computers, art, financial planning, theater, cooking and more. North Torrey Pines Bridge Closure, Sat, Feb 11, 2012

Helen Woodward Animal Adoptions

We foster cats and dogs for the Helen Woodward Animal Center (animalcenter.org), getting them ready to be adopted out. Over the last few years, we've had some 40 cats and 8 dogs come through our house, and we hope we've made them better pets by giving them some time and love before they reach their new home. If you're considering getting a new pet, consider Helen Woodward. They have adoptable cats and they have adoptable dogs, and they all need homes. Residential Burglaries and Door-to-Door Salespeople

I don't know if this is related to the recent string of burglaries in the area, but something to be aware of. Note that our local police non-emergency number is 858-484-3154 (this type of report is NOT an emergency, unless you feel threatened or see a burglary in progress.)

The La Jolla, Bird Rock Neighborhood Watch reports: In the past few days, the Bird Rock Community Council received 5 compliants about solicitors in our neighborhood. At the January meeting with the police, we were told that these door to door sales people are CASING are homes. Please call the police to make a report... The police are asking that we call them.
